First wine today from limestone and it really shows. Elevated aromas, high-toned with ripe red cherry fruit, and pungent green herbal notes. Gorgeous wood integration on the nose and palate. One of the best Pinots today. Superb. ****

13% alc. 3.1 g/L RS, 6.8 g/L acidity. Very small berries, loose structured clones which were selected from old vines in the Mosel. A missive hit of aroma and flavor with lime and sweet citrus. Saltiness seems to be a theme at this estate. Outstanding Riesling. ***++

Weingut Bernard Pawis Weißburgunder Himmelreich Erste Lage Saale-Unstrut 2021

From 30 meters above the Unstrut on a plateau of limestone, loess and loam. More fruit and lower acidity than the Muschelkalk PB. Tastes of wood but this is all stainless steel tanks. A few months aging on the lees has given this excellent texture and a nutty, brioche flavor. **++

12% alc. Stainless steel tanks. Bernard Pawis would say that either a Müller-Thurgau or Riesling from Muschelkalk (shell limestone), are the wines which best show the typicité of the region. Aromas and flavors of grapefruit, and white peach. Dry and intensely salty, my notes say. This reflects the classic style of the region and character of the terroir. **++

Slight copper color, red apple skin on the nose with pretty floral notes, perhaps apple blossom. White peach on the palate with better than expected acidity. Fruit-forward but dry with a notch more weight and texture than the Müller-Thurgau and Bacchus tasted previously. **+
