Favourite book / author? hard tie between cloud atlas by david mitchell and howl's moving castle by diana wynne jones. incidentally, they're also both my favourite authors sO please don't make me choose <3 (what they have in common i guess is varying degrees of obvious soul-crushing humanity and whimsical magic/al realism, but they both do both and that's. exactly what i am looking for in books lmao)

21. Favourite character? ever? oh god probably. valkyrie cain from the skulduggery pleasant series. (don't read those books.) exclusively from phase 1 though, because we don't talk about the sequel series on this here blog. (i'm serious do not read them.) the author is meh but i grew up with this series (phase 1) and was. at a very impressionable age when i just. got stuck on val (in phase 1). and the mix of humor and suspense just used to work really well, the mysteries were awesome, and i liked the characters / development in general. (in phase 1.) it is what it is now and i do like to reread parts of it still but for the love of anything don't do this to yourself lol

30. Book recommendation? ANYTHING by naomi novik oh my god. in fairness i haven't read the temeraire series yet, but uprooted and spinning silver have Fundamentally Altered The Physical Make Up Of My Brain Matter. they're? not exactly fairy tale retellings per se, but they are. fairy tales themselves. and they're so so good because they take you into this world and it feels like you're living with the characters and she just. has a very specific way of drawing you into these stories and you'll laugh and you'll cry and you'll learn something about yourself and you'll feel better. you really will. the scholomance trilogy is a bit more heavy on the action, brings out her specific type of dark humor a bit more, and is decidedly more modern, but it has some of the same vibes and a very specific scene in the last book (the golden enclaves) was so moving it singlehandedly restored my faith in humanity. anyways go read naomi novik. just like as a whole <3
