sakamoto/takasugi, glory

sometimes, takasugi can't stop thinking about death. he doubts if heaven and hell do exist. maybe they do, and all he knows after everything he has done, he doesn't deserve heaven, yet it's exciting to him to think about to be buried underneath the ground.

takasugi is not scared of hell. he's been living in it anyway. since he's still a kid, his father has shown him the real hell. the way he beat him black and blue whenever he did against his father's will and the way he let him froze and starved when it's winter.

and when he's grown, he's seen his "school" burned. he's seen his master being captived by the government. he's seen his comrades die on the battlefield each minute, and he couldn't do anything to protect any of them, and he's just waiting for his turn. he's getting used to face death every single day.

takasugi is fearless. he's brilliant. he's powerful. he could be the strongest soldier at war. at least it's what everyone thinks about him. but, deep down, if he's being honest to himself, he's not that great. he's not great at all. his father wouldn't disown him if he could make him proud. his comrades would still be alive if he's not full of himself. and most importantly, his master would still be here if he's not failed to protect him. death really fits as punishment for him.

he can't live peacefully if the guilt keeps eating him alive. he's so ashamed for not good enough, for not strong enough, for not--a tap on his hand breaks his reverie. takasugi looks up, catching the eyes which reminds him of clear blue sky at night. he can see the galaxy through them before he realizes sakamoto tatsuma puts his hand in his, pulling him back to where is right now.

"your thoughts are so loud," tatsuma laughs, that somehow just hearing his laughter could put him at ease. "i could hear them from here, you know."

takasugi says nothing nor let go of his hand. instead, he lets tatsuma hold his shaky hands. it feels warm. he feels safe.

"you've been doing the great and i'm proud of you," tatsuma flashes him a big smile. takasugi can't help but astound how tatsuma could read him like an open book. he's never shown his vulnerability to anyone, even to his closest ones. and how tatsuma's smile is so bright like the stars above.

maybe being alive isn't bad at all. he's got tatsuma right beside him as he pulls him into a kiss. a gentle kiss. and for a while, takasugi forgets about being buried. he's found his heaven just now.
