Vaccine passport apps could help us return to normal. First they need to solve the trust problem On Friday, New York became the first state in the United States to roll out a vaccine verification app, often referred to as a digital vaccine passport. It’s using IBM’s Excelsior Pass app, which leans on the blockchain and displays a personalized QR code to verify health status. The state tested the app earlier this month at a Brooklyn Nets basketball game at the Barclays Center and a New York Rangers hockey game at Madison Square Garden. Vaccine verification apps could play a key role in helping us get back to normal. But the companies behind them may first need to convince millions of Americans — scarred from years of headlines about data scandals — that these apps don’t pose significant privacy risks. In his announcement, Governor Andrew Cuomo specifically nodded to potential privacy concerns about the app, with the promise of “keeping personal information secure.” Likewise, Steve LaFleche, general manager of IBM Public and Federal Markets, said in a statement that New York’s digital passport relies on a “flexible and accessible tool that places security and privacy at its core.” But not everyone is convinced. “Some of these everyday life apps will create a new layer of digital infrastructure that was previously anonymous,” said Albert Fox Cahn, founder and executive director of the Surveillance Technology Oversight Project and a fellow at the NYU School of Law. “You don’t need that type of surveillance to pick up a quart of milk from a bodega.” Chief among the privacy fears is the question of whether location or medical data will be collected and stored and who will have access to that information. The companies behind these apps have said they will not store data, but the perception could nonetheless dissuade some Americans from embracing the apps. “User trust is paramount in order for digital smart health cards to be successful in empowering individuals to demonstrate their vaccination status as society reopens,” said Dr. Brian Anderson, chief digital health physician at not-for-profit MITRE, which manages federally funded research and development centers, and cofounder of the Vaccination Credential Initiative. “That’s why it’s imperative that companies are open and transparent in regards to their privacy policies so that individuals can make an informed decision about who they want to share their vaccination information with.” Silicon Valley has tried its hand at tech solutions to help address the public health crisis, including exposure notification apps that would help stop the spread of Covid-19, but those efforts mostly fell short of their promise. Now, digital health passes could be a way for tech companies to make a meaningful impact on the US reopening. However, these products must confront a number of concerns, including potential counterfeit vaccine cards, the digital divide and, perhaps most immediately, consumer distrust and shifting norms about how technology companies handle personal data. Apple, for example, is currently rolling out push notifications to be more transparent with users about which data will be collected about them before they download any app. Other tech giants, such as Facebook, continue to introduce tools to earn back consumer trust following a series of data scandals and security breaches. Privacy concerns have emerged in other countries where digital passport apps have been introduced. Israel’s government-validated vaccine certificate program is under scrutiny not only for draining smartphone performance and memory but for being a closed-source program, so it’s unclear where some of the data may be going. Similarly, Singapore faced backlash earlier this year after stating law enforcement had access to personal data collected from contract tracing apps for criminal investigations, despite earlier privacy assurances. The Vaccination Credential Initiative — which includes IBM, Microsoft, Salesforce, Oracle, Mayo Clinic and the Commons Project, a nonprofit with a vaccine passport app currently working with some airlines — is playing a key role in developing US standards and guidelines for digital health passes, including its approach to data privacy. Anderson said its specifications should be set in the next few weeks. “None of the data would be stored on a central server ever — and there would be a validation step to ensure that,” said Anderson. “Data would also never be aggregated, so an issuer wouldn’t know if a person went to this restaurant or that restaurant. It wouldn’t be able to sell movement or data to destinations either — that would be wholly inappropriate.” Eric Piscini, project lead for the digital pass app at IBM, emphasized to CNN Business the company will not keep user medical information on its platform and does not track location. “From an individual’s perspective, IBM Digital Health Pass puts them in control, allowing them to store, manage and authorize sharing of their health status from their mobile phones with designated recipients in a secure manner, without exposing the underlying data used to generate it,” he said in an interview before the launch. But Cahn said he’s generally underwhelmed by some of the outlined privacy policies, noting New York state’s page for the digital health pass app “raises far more questions than it answers,” such as only linking out to the statewide IT standards page and not stating whether data could be used by law enforcement. 118 more mobile applications are banned in India

The Indian government on Wednesday announced that it has banned 118 more mobile applications, including PUBG, within the interest of "sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order" by invoking Section 69 of the Data Technology Act. the govt banned 59 mobile apps within the country back in June. "The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and insight of the emergent nature of threats have decided to block 118 mobile apps since insight of information available they are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state and public order," the Ministry of Electronics and information Technology said in a politician release. The Ministry of Information Technology said that it's received many complaints from various sources including several reports about the misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India. This government believes that the move will safeguard the interests of crores of Indian mobile and internet users. This decision may be a targeted move to make sure the safety and sovereignty of Indian cyberspace. India bans 118 more Chinese mobile apps, including PUBG

The Central government on Wednesday banned 118 Chinese mobile apps, including the popular game PUBG. As per the Union government the apps have been banned by the Ministry of Electronics & Information & Technology as, they were involved in events that are harmful to control, truthfulness, security & safety of the state and public order.

"This discrepancy will safety measure the welfares of crores of Indian mobile & virtual reality handlers. This verdict is a targeted change to confirm the safety, security & control of Indian World Wide Web," said a statement from the ministry.

The statement said it has acknowledged many complaints from many sources, as well as reports about misappropriation use of some mobile apps accessible on Android & iOS platforms, for thieving & surreptitiously spreading users’ data in an unauthorized way to servers placed outside India.

"The accumulating of these information, its exclusion & reporting by fundamentals incompatible to countrywide security & defense of India, which ultimately trespasses upon the sovereignty & veracity of India, is an element of very considerate & straight concern which needs emergency actions," it said.

The government had banned 59 Chinese apps on 29th June 2020 to guarantee the safety & sovereignty of Indian Internet. The list comprised apps like TikTok, Shareit, UC Browser, Helo, Likee, Mi Community, Virus Cleaner, Beauty Plus, WeChat, UC News, Weibo, Xender, Bigo Live, Cam Scanner, Clean Master – Cheetah Mobile, etc.

A month later it had banned 47 more apps for supposedly functioning as “replicas” of the earlier banned apps. With the fresh ban, the sum of Chinese apps banned in India now stands at 224.

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre under the Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent a comprehensive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps, said the declaration. "Likewise, there have been equal mutual concerns, highlighted by numerous public administrations, both exterior & privileged the Parliament of India. There has been a solid refrain in the public space to take harsh action against apps that damage India’s control as well as the privacy of our residents," it added.

It could have been due to the app’s complicated — read, mixed — origin.

PUBG is an online multiplayer battle royal game made by South Korean video game company Bluehole subsidiary PUBG Corporation. But PUBG Mobile is not made by the same subsidiary. When PUBG Mobile was primarily launched, the object behind it was to make PUBG enter China as the game was banned there. The game was unrestricted in China only after Shenzhen-based Tencent Games accepted a 1.5% stake in Bluehole Studio, & this was how PUBG Mobile came into being. The rest is history.

With the government now banning PUBG Mobile, it is clear that it wants to set a solid superiority that the nation’s privacy cannot be taken for granted.

Both Google & Apple will have to obey with the new presiding & eliminate these apps, including PUBG Mobile, from the Play Store & App Store correspondingly. ISPs will also have to selectively block these apps so current users can’t access them till further announcement.

India bloquea 'PUBG Mobile' y 'Arena Of Valor', entre otras más de 100 aplicaciones de origen chino

El 29 de junio nos hacíamos eco la noticia: el Gobierno de India barría del mapa 59 aplicaciones chinas, entre ellas TikTok y WeChat. Dicho bloqueo tenía por motivo que las apps podían "ser perjudiciales para la soberanía e integridad de la India, defensa de la India, seguridad del estado y el orden público", un bloqueo que supuso un duro golpe para el software de origen chino. Ahora, en un segundo golpe, India bloquea más de 100 aplicaciones, entre las que se incluye 'PUBG Mobile', uno de los juegos más populares en el mundo.

El Ministerio de Electrónica y Tecnología de la información (IT) ha publicado una nueva lista con una total de 118 aplicaciones. De nuevo, se esgrimen motivos "de seguridad", asegurando asimismo que han recibido "muchas quejas de diversas fuentes, entre ellas varias denuncias sobre el uso indebido de algunas aplicaciones móviles" en Android y iOS para "robar y a escondidas transmitir los datos de los usuarios de manera no autorizada a servidores que se encuentran fuera de la India".

El segundo golpe de India a las apps de origen Chino

India ha bloqueado un total de 118 aplicaciones, entre ellas 'PUBG Mobile' y 'Arena Of Valor', dos de los juegos más populares del mercado móvil. El Ministerio asegura que la decisión se toma por motivos de seguridad, vista "la naturaleza de las amenazas". Según el gobierno han "recibido quejas y varias denuncias" acerca de que algunas de estas aplicaciones, supuestamente, envían datos a servidores que se encuentran fuera de India.

"El Ministerio de Electrónica y Tecnología de la Información del Gobierno de la India invocando su poder en virtud del artículo 69A de la Ley de Tecnología de la Información leído con el disposiciones pertinentes de la Ley de Tecnología de la Información (Procedimiento y Salvaguardias para Bloqueo del acceso a la información por parte del público) Normas de 2009 y en vista de la emergente naturaleza de las amenazas ha decidido bloquear 118 aplicaciones para móviles (véase el Apéndice) ya que en vista de de la información disponible se dedican a actividades que son perjudiciales para la soberanía y la integridad de la India, la defensa de la India, la seguridad del Estado y el orden público."

PUBG Mobile es el nombre más sonado en este lista, un fuerte golpe a la entrega de Tencent. Es curioso asimismo que otros juegos hermanos de PUBG Mobile, como Call Of Duty: Mobile, no se hayan bloqueado. En el caso de PUBG Mobile, según datos de Sensor Tower, se ha descargado más de 175 millones de veces (datos de julio 2020) y ha superado los 1.000 millones de dólares en ingresos a nivel global.

El popular juego se suma a la anterior prohibición, en la que cayeron grandes como TikTok, WeChat o Xiaomi Video Call. Este supone así el segundo gran golpe que recibe el software de origen chino en India.

Salesforce releases myTrailhead, a customizable training platform

Salesforce has been using the notion of trailblazers as a learning metaphor for several years, since it created a platform to teach customers Salesforce skills called Trailhead. Today, the company announced the availability of myTrailhead, a similar platform that enables company to create branded, fully-customizable training materials based on the Trailhead approach.

It’s worth noting that the company originally announced this idea at Dreamforce in November, 2017, and after testing it on 13 pilot customers (including itself) for the last year is making the product generally available today.

While Trailhead is all about teaching Salesforce skills, myTrailhead is about building on that approach to teach whatever other skills a company might find desirable with its own culture, style, branding and methodologies.

It builds on the whole Trailhead theme of blazing a learning trail, providing a gamified approach to self-paced training, where users are quizzed throughout to reinforce the lessons, awarded badges for successfully completing modules and given titles like Ranger for successfully completing a certain number of courses.

By gamifying the approach, Salesforce hopes people will have friendly competition within companies, but it also sees these skills as adding value to an employee’s resume. If a manager is looking for an in-house hire, they can search by skills in myTrailhead and find candidates who match their requirements. Additionally, employees who participate in training can potentially advance their careers with the their enhanced skill sets.

While you can continue to teach Salesforce skills in myTrailhead, it’s really focused on the customization and what companies can add on top of the Salesforce materials to make the platform their own. Salesforce envisions companies using the platform for new employee onboarding, sales enablement or customer service training, but if a company is ambitious, it could use this as a broader training tool.

There is an analytics component in myTrailhead, so management can track when employees complete required training modules, understand how well they are doing as they move through a learning track or recognize when employees have updated their skill sets.

The idea is to build on the Trailhead platform idea to provide companies with a methodology for creating a digital approach learning, which Salesforce sees as an essential ingredient of becoming a modern company. The product is available immediately.

Banning of PUBG

Government of India today through Ministry of Electronics & IT decided to ban 118 more apps after banning previously various apps including TikTok etc, in,light of the facts that these apps are engaged in activities which detrimental to "sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order."

In the today's list of apps to be banned, various game apps especially PUBG is also included. The detail list of the 118 apps to be banned as per the Press Release dated 02 SEP 2020 are as follows:
