the night that dante and his mom stopped talking had been a busy one, his manager was swearing up and down the house, people calling to see if dante could give a statement. his social media blowing up in his face, people defending them or hoping they'd fall off the face of the planet. in the chaos of it all there was a moment of silence when dante had found samuel in his room building legos, his hands shaking slightly. there were too many people in the house, more than his little brother was comfortable with. dante is a lot of things, but he's loyal to those that he deems worthy, and he'd always put his siblings first. he remembers sitting down across from him, reaching out to grab one of the pieces of the set they've been on and off building for a month now. dante had been so busy being everywhere else that he forgot to be here. "i think i'm going to have to live with my dad and sisters for a bit. until i settle on a place." dante says quietly, he looks at his brother who furrows his brow. his mouth twitches at the side. he was just a kid then, still a kid now in dante's eyes, but he's used to seeing this ugly side to his brother and dante hates that. "i don't want you to go," samuel had said back. "i know," dante never cried but he felt like it. the last time he cried had been when he was a kid. he learned from a young age on how to compartmentalize your emotions in boxes, especially when it came to the press. "mom and i aren't very good for each other." he ran his fingers through his brother's hair like their mum used to do when they were much smaller. "we love each other, but i don't think we can.. i don't think we can coexist in each other's lives like this anymore." he promised that he was still going to see his brother. he still hasn't broken that one yet.

did anyone else pick up on how many of the cases weren't from the victim's point of view? it's happened 3 times so far (4 if you count daria? she's complicated) out of seven cases. tma in comparison has 130 out of 154 statements (i am only counting s1-4 because s5 messes with format) (if the numbers are a bit funky please note that i hand counted them so i apologise for that). of course, we only have six episodes of protocol, but there is clearly a difference and i can still make a post out of it.

but also, those accounts from the perpetrator remind me somewhat of statements from avatars. needles' poetic, ominous manner of speech sounded similar to statements like jane prentiss, manuela dominguez, etc. (side note: needles was very corruption in my opinion. calling the stabbing/other violent actions an act of affection was definitely reminiscent of jane and the hive, just saying). others have pointed the parallels between jonah magnus and the violin guy, but i'll do it again: guy obtains much power via acts of violence, and despite knowing it hurts people this guy continues to see the skill and power with a cost as a blessing, keeps the origin of the power secret and passes it onto another person, who they tell the origin of the power to and bestow the power upon this other person, who did not ask for this. samuel webber's contentment with his new form while retaining an underlying sense of fear is comparable to avatars who love and fear their entity in equal measure.

as well as this, these cases seem more directly aligned with tma entities. magp 4 is extremely slaughter, and resembles mag 42 (grifter's bone). magp 3 is corruption, and mag 6 is also corruption in my opinion (i think people agree with me on that?).

Review Buku - Your Money or Your Life

Saya mendapatkan referensi buku ini sewaktu saya mengikuti acara "Kompasfest", terutama untuk topik mengenai Frugal Living yang dibawakan oleh pembicara Samuel Ray, seorang praktisi gaya hidup Frugal. Buku yang ditulis oleh Vicki Robin dan Joe Dominguez ini pertama kali diterbitkan di tahun 1992, dan kemudian mengalami cetak ulang berkali-kali dengan penambahan materi ataupun perubahan karena banyak hal yang sudah tidak lagi relevan dengan perkembangan jaman, hingga akhirnya saya pun baru membacanya di tahun 2022 ini. Judul buku ini sendiri cukup provokatif, seakan mengajak siapapun yang membaca untuk memilih apakah kita memilih uang/harta kita atau nyawa kita. Judul itulah yang sebetulnya mengawali perjalanan kita untuk mendalami kehidupan keuangan kita sepanjang membaca buku ini.

Di Bagian awal buku, kita diajak untuk berkaca ke diri kita sendiri, bagaimana sebetulnya hubungan kita dengan "Uang", apakah kita selama ini merupakan orang yang "YOLO" sehingga uang seakan tidak pernah ada dalam kendali kita dan hanya merupakan "Alat" pemuas keinginan-keinginan kita, atau uang itu merupakan alat yang bisa membantu mewujudkan cita-cita kita. Kemudian setelah menyadari kenyataan mengenai hubungan kita yang sebenarnya dengan uang, kita juga diajak merefleksikan, bahwa apakah selama ini kita sudah bekerja dengan layak atau belum? maksudnya layak disini adalah sering kali dalam bekerja, ternyata kita mengorbankan begitu banyak hal, hubungan dengan keluarga, sahabat ataupun hal-hal yang kita senangi, semuanya tersedot kedalam pekerjaan, sehingga kita tidak lagi bekerja untuk hidup (Make a Living) melainkan bekerja untuk menyambut kematian (Make a Dying), selain judulnya yang provokatif, di dalam buku ini anda akan banyak berjumpa dengan kata-kata yang cukup ceplas ceplos yang seakan mengajak kita untuk tersadar dari berbagai anggapan yang dibuat oleh diri kita sendiri. Kita pun diajak untuk menghitung berapa jam dalam hidup kita yang kita korbankan dan berapa sebetulnya "bayaran" kita dalam hitungan jam, saat kita melihat nominal gaji kita, mungkin sebagian dari kita ada yang tersenyum puas melihat jumlah digit yang tertera, tapi siapa sangka banyak digit tersebut sebetulnya menyimpan banyak pengorbanan, kita harus rela pulang malam, menghabiskan banyak uang di Kafe atau sekedar "Healing" karena stress yang menumpuk dalam pekerjaan dan lain-lain, sehingga diakhir bulan, biasanya saldo kita mendadak menyusut ke nilai yang membuat hidup kita serba sulit, hal ini lah yang coba digali oleh penulis sehingga kita menyadari, apakah pekerjaan kita saat ini betul-betul membuat kita lebih hidup atau malah perlahan membuat kita menggali kuburan kita sendiri.

Di bagian tengah buku, kita mulai diajak membuat sebuah grafik, dimana kita diajak, melihat, sebetulnya pemasukan kita jikalau dibandingkan dengan pengeluaran, apakah seimbang apakah berat sebelah atau bagaimana dari waktu ke waktu, beruntunglah mereka yang bisa menahan pengeluaran atau gaya hidupnya di level yang rendah, sementara bisa terus menaikkan pemasukannya, tetapi kenyataan seringkali berkata lain, pengeluaran kita terus bertambah seiring pemasukan kita bertambah, maka dari itu, ajakan untuk membuat grafik ini juga bisa membantu kita menyadarkan diri kita dari halusinasi bahwa kita harus "YOLO" hidup hanya sekali, hiduplah hari ini dan lain sebagainya, saat kita memiliki gaya hidup yang terlalu tinggi, kita hanya akan menggali kuburan yang semakin dalam yang akan membuat diri kita di masa depan menanggung penderitaannya dalam menutupi setiap hutang-hutang yang kita miliki. Oleh karena nya kita juga diajak untuk berkaca agar tidak hanyut dalam gaya hidup konsumtif tanpa menyisakan sedikitpun uang untuk kita simpan di masa yang akan datang, selain itu kita juga semakin disadarkan akan pentingnya dana darurat, karena hidup kita tidak akan selamanya mulus, ada saja peristiwa yang tidak kita duga yang bisa menguras banyak uang yang kita miliki.

Di bagian akhir buku, kita juga diajak untuk mengenal beberapa instrumen investasi, yang selain bisa menjaga nilai uang yang kita miliki, tapi juga bisa membantu kita menambah nilai dari uang yang ada, mungkin investasinya pun juga tidak seperti yang diberikan oleh influencer di medsos seperti kripto, saham dan lain sebagainya yang memiliki resiko sangat tinggi, tapi lebih ke investasi yang cukup aman, tapi kembali lagi dengan profil resiko masing-masing dan tentunya tujuan keuangan kita masing-masing, dari sana kita juga diajak untuk melihat, bahwa perjalanan menuju FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early) merupakan perjalanan sepanjang hidup, sebetulnya kita bisa pensiun lebih dari sekali, maksudnya bagaimana? Bekerja atau tidak bekerja sebetulnya itu pilihan hidup masing-masing individu, dunia saat ini sudah sedemikian terdisrupsi dengan perkembangan teknologi, sehingga bayangan akan pekerjaan itu selalu dikonotasikan bekerja kantoran dan berpakaian rapi, padahal ada banyak pekerjaan lain yang bisa kita lakukan tanpa harus berada di kantor dan berpakaian rapi, dan pada saat kita memutuskan untuk bekerja di kantor, itu menjadi keputusan kita, ataupun saat kita merasa lelah dengan dunia kantor, kita bisa memutuskan untuk "Pensiun" atau berhenti dari pekerjaan tersebut.

Buku ini cukup provokatif tapi memiliki pelajaran yang sangat banyak, sangat disarankan untuk kalian yang saat ini bertanya-tanya apakah pekerjaan kalian saat ini tepat untuk kalian atau tidak, apakah kalian bisa menggunakan uang kalian untuk hidup Sejahtera? temukan jawabannya melalui buku ini dan melalui refleksi dengan diri kalian masing-masing, Selamat Membaca!

when people would ask him what motivated him to become the person that he was today, it’s always the standard answer of, my father of course, but in his head he would say, it was actually my mother’s backlogged dreams. no one knows that this is his answer, he tries very hard nowadays to keep his mother’s name out of his mouth. 

it used to change over the years how they approached questions about fame, how in many ways they would never be their father or their sibling luna, and how that drove them from being off the big stage and instead just stick to being… behind it. all of that to say dante would never promise to be quiet, during their early twenties they had spent most of their time running through people and things and their mother told them that one day they'd crash and burn and... then they did. 

but that’s getting ahead of the story. the story really starts on a hot night in august, dante is born out of an already flighty relationship. his mother was on her way to being someone, she wasn’t famous by any means but famous enough to have a small following and by the time that dante was actually here most of those dreams came crashing down. they struggled, partly because his mother wanted his father in his life but struggled because she refused to receive help from his father. it would be a back and forth game until his father, his wife, and sibling would move to new york city and dante would stay with his mother and watch her go through her own set of relationships that would never work out. 

he still of course went to new york to visit for a couple of months at a time, he was never going to be the actor of the family, but he did often listen into conversations his father and luna would have when it came to music, by the time he would get back to his mother’s he’d be half into a project, writing songs, and making experimental sounds. 

with the success of his father’s family it began to take a toll on his back at home. people would say things about him and his mother, rumours that would fly off the handle of the actress that could have been had she not had a tumultuous relationship with his father. his little brother is born and dante tries to keep his head down. 

while his family is complicated he can’t help but feel love for them whenever he was able to visit, though it always felt like he was on the outside looking in. he could relate to his father on music but it was never the same genre. the bond that he should have with his dad was strained but that’s just because he remembers everything that’s happened to his mom. 

skip a few years, glossing over all the public scandals that dante gets himself into, a public outing with the wrong guy, and an incident with his brother where he was meant to protect him and just couldn’t get to him in time, his mother is done with dante. his brother may have forgiven him but his mother hasn’t. in fact, it’s been so long since they last talked it’s often samuel going between both of them when they’re around for the rare family function. 

dante disappears for about a year and comes back under a different pen name luan guerrero, luan in portuguese means ‘moon’ in tribute to his sibling who was able to accomplish so much, but in chinese it also means 'bird' or 'bell'. they always liked a double meaning. dante isn’t known by their mother’s maiden name, it only seemed appropriate that despite everything they’ve been through, there’s some part of her in everything that they do. their album ‘decide’ comes out and is a hit. and after that their other projects that they worked equally as hard on become popular too after years of having just a small few appreciating them. 

before changing pen names they worked on a lot of hit singles as lyricists, and while it was fulfilling there’s something about being able to have your own voice singing your own songs. they’re still passionate about composing, there’s so many good spanish experimental music and they’re just dying to put their foot in the door with it too. 

they’ve moved to valparaiso not that long ago knowing that both of their siblings are here. dante is looking for a fresh start and make more music and shed some of their old ways, but dante is also a leo so we’ll see how that goes !!

dante is also very interested in ghost hunting, urban myths, and folklore !!! i wonder if you could tell who their siblings are !!! anyway he’s very supportive of both of his siblings work and wished that he was smart enough to go to university but he’s stupid as a bag of rocks ( ok not literally but im allowed to be mean to him )

also it's literally not a secret that his pen name can be linked to his actual name, people often comment whenever he posts on his band’s instagram asking if this is dante or management posting ( it's almost always dante ) so aosdknfas he just wanted to have a separate name for ‘important things’ like that but when it comes to composing for shows and movies he always uses his full name.

Not to be that person, but it kills me that the only moment where Nano's unambiguously looking out for Samuel and being the protective older brother happens right before he leaves the series.

Samuel gets into the drug business to help pay for Nano's legal fees, and it freaks Nano out enough to not drop the matter even though Samuel feels like he has no choice but to continue because of how bad they're off financially, and it's killing Nano to see Samuel going down the same path as him... just...
