I honestly don't understand how some people think Alexander Colbourne is "boring." The man is raising the child his wife had by cheating on him. He could have dropped her off at an orphanage and gone on with his life. But no. He kept her, gave her his name, and cares for her as if she were his own.
He also took in his cheating wife's neice when her parents died. He's not blood to either of those girls, but he's still trying to do the best for them because to him they are family.
He's also willing to learn and listen. He actually learned from Charlotte and admitted she was right. He was willing to let her go and let her marry another man because it was her choice. He supports her dreams and goals. He doesn't insist that she be a stay at home wife and mother as was generally expected of women back then. In fact, in the one year leap, Charlotte is getting off work and Alexander is the one initially holding the baby, implying that Alexander is the one caring for their child while his wife is working. This was highly unusual back then.
What about this is "boring"?

If anybody needs me I’ll be obsessing over the way Colbourne practically threw himself out of his chair to pick up Charlotte’s glove for the next ???? years

I love the Colbourne brothers so much.
Fell for Alexander last season. He's so handsome and stoic. That tough exterior soft interior. I love that.
And now we're introduced to his brother Samuel and he's also handsome as hell and funny and outgoing and shit I loved him as soon and Leo pointed her sword at him and said en garde and he raised his arms in surrender. Sold. I love him. And every episode after his first just make me love him more.
The Colbourne brothers are the best and I love them.

Another thing I just love about Alexander Colbourne is that he's genuinely humble and not in a false modesty sort of way, but rather in a “I’m only doing what any decent person would do” sort of way. He doesn’t seem to realize that raising his unfaithful wife’s child as his own is extraordinary. Or that going after his brother that he hasn’t seen or spoken to in ten years just so that brother can help out the friend of someone he cares about, and paying him to do it, is extraordinary. Or that, for the time period at least, not forcing your wife to be a stay at home wife and mother and actually supporting her dreams and goals is extraordinary. To him, it’s just what one does. To him, with the exceptions of the Edward Denhams and Colonel Lennoxs of the world, anyone would do the same. He’s an amazing man who doesn’t realize how amazing he is.

Where’s all the Sanditon people at? Because I have thoughts, particularly about Edward Denham. (Beware that I’ve seen all episodes except for the last one, so while I want to avoid series finale spoilers, there will be partial s3 spoilers below)
Jack Fox is playing that character brilliantly this season. There’s some subtlety to his character arc that’s really impressive and it’s taken me by complete surprise. Like in ep 5, you can absolutely see that even as he’s taking Augusta away and he’s following through with his plans, he hates himself for it. And you watch his face as Augusta is sticking up for him to her Mr Colbourne, and you can just see that he’s sick inside at the idea that this sweet and innocent young woman genuinely believed that he was a good man. And then the sheepish return to his aunt and the way he insisted that he’s incapable of feelings… ooh we see the sheen in your eyes, sir!
I can honestly say I don’t know where they’re going to go with his character or with any possibility between him and Augusta, but no doubt Edward is absolutely the most surprising side plot in this show. Cannot wait to see how they bring things to a close for him in the final episode!! 👀
