Sasuke: *sees Sakura staring at him and the baby* Is everything okay, Sakura?
Sakura: Y-Yeah.. *smiles* Why did you ask?
Sasuke: It seems that you're in deep thought.
Sakura: A bit.. I'm just thinking about.. Things.. But nothing to worry about. *giggles nervously*
Sasuke nods while cradling their second-born in his arm. Although she assured him that it was nothing, he knows that something is bothering her.
At bedtime..
Sakura: *lies down beside Sasuke* Finally, he's asleep.
Sasuke: You must be tired.
Sakura: Not really. *smiles*
Sasuke: Sakura, where did you go this morning?
Sakura: W-Why are you asking?
Sasuke: Ah— The food— The food that you brought home was good. So, I thought I can buy from there in another time.
Sakura: Oh.. Yeah.. It's the restaurant across the supermarket's back entrance.
Sasuke: I see.. Well, then. Good night and rest well. *kisses each other*
---
The next day, Sasuke decides to go and check the place. He thinks that he'd be able to find out what happened yesterday, which made Sakura upset.
Sasuke: *goes to the counter* Hi! My wife went here yesterday. I wonder if something happened because she was upset when she got home.
Cashier: I— I have no idea and I didn't notice! B-But you see those three? *points at the 3 men* Th-Those are our regulars. You can check with them. They might have seen something.
Sasuke goes directly to their table and asks the three men. They're denying seeing Sakura yesterday but Sasuke doesn't believe them. The restaurant is packed, so he decides to not cause a scene. Instead, he waits outside until any of them goes out.
One of the men leaves the restaurant and Sasuke follows him. When they're in a secluded area, he puts him under genjutsu.
Tumblr media
Sasuke: Sharingan! *views the man's memory*
|||
Man1: Is that really an Uchiha? *peeks*
Sakura: *overhears the 3 men from the other table*
Man2: Right? He's probably not. Maybe he's a child of adultery. *drinks his tea*
Man3: Or maybe he's Sasuke's karma for all his wrongdoings.
Man1: For sure. A green-eyed Uchiha means it doesn't possess sharingan. Pretty useless.
Man3: Indeed. Imagine being an Uchiha but all you have is the surname. *laughs*
Man2: Fugaku's disdain would be too evident if he's still alive.
Man1: Such a disgrace. That's why if you have kekkei genkai, you shouldn't marry outsiders.
Man2: Well, Sasuke had no choice. Who would he marry? Someone from their clan's grave? *laughs*
Man1: He shouldn't have married at all!! Or at least choose someone with dojutsu.
Man3: I'm sure he'll neglect that baby and will focus on their first-born.
Man2: Their first-born is pretty useless too. Like yes she has sharingan. But she's a girl. A good for nothing—
Sakura: Please stop talking about my family in that manner.
Man3: We're just telling the truth?
Sakura: The truth? Everything that you said was baseless.
Man2: What will you do? Tell on us?
Man1: What will you say to Sasuke? That we're making fun of that half-baked Uchiha?
Sakura: No.. I don't want his hand to get stained with your blood. *gets up as the baby starts crying and leaves*
|||
Sasuke: So you were mocking the Uchiha. You were making fun of my son, which made my wife very upset. *puts him to the side; still under his genjutsu* Stay there until who knows when. *leaves*
---
Sakura: Anata, what took you so long?
Sasuke: Sorry, some work got in the way.. *gets the baby from Sakura* Ahh, my green-eyed baby..
Sakura: Anata.. I'm— I'm sorry..
Sasuke: For what?
Sakura: ...
Sasuke: You don't have control over it, Sakura.
Sakura: Yes.. But.. Our son won't have sharingan..
Sasuke: And?
Sakura: Anata..
Sasuke: Does it matter?
Sakura: He's an Uchiha.
Sasuke: Yes. And not all Uchiha have sharingan. Some had. Some didn't. And that's fine.
Sakura: I'm ruining your bloodline..
Sasuke: Who told you?
Sakura: It's okay, Sasuke-kun..
Sasuke: Remember when you asked me the same thing when you were pregnant with Sarada? What if the baby had green eyes instead?
Sakura: *nods*
Sasuke: And what did I tell you?
Sakura: That it's okay.. And that it's probably better because our child won't suffer.
Sasuke: And you yourself doesn't have kekkei genkai but you're the strongest kunoichi.
Sakura: Yeah..
Sasuke: So what is there to worry about?
Sakura: But the people—
Sasuke: If it doesn't matter to us, then people's opinion shouldn't matter to us as well. Our child is perfect. He'll be strong just like you and me and Sarada. And even if not, we'll be there to protect him.
Sakura: Sasuke-kun! *smiles* Of course.
Sasuke: If the Uchiha is meant to be pink-haired in the future, so be it.
Sakura: *laughs; goes to Sasuke to see their baby*
Sasuke: Thank you, Sakura.. For giving me the most amazing children a father could ask for.
Sakura: They're very lucky to have you as their father, Anata. *smiles*

Oook we're doing this.
It has been YEARS since I've written a Naruto fic. Some ideas have been simmering but from a combo of life being chaos and some mental health/creative spark challenges, just haven't had it in me to run with them.
Till now. 😏
My first multi-chap SasuSaku fic since A Twist in Time is actually, for real, in the works. Set in the blank period. It'll be a blend of my favourite genres and tropes (ie romance/adventure/angst/action/fluff/slow burn/mutual pining). A bit self indulgent. Mostly an attempt to wake up that spark and my rusty writing skills.
Timing of first chap tbc but hopefully soon! I'm honestly just making this post to hold myself accountable lol 😆

Shoutout to all fanfic writers
Fanfic writers are passionate on a whole other level, like people don’t even know who you are or how you look like, but their writing just fuels the love and passion for the ships we have. There are a lot of writers out there who wrote so beautifully that I cried senselessly after finishing a series.
PSA: Leave kudos, comments, reviews, loves, hearts whatever you can because fanfic writing is such a thankless job but there are people out there who ship the same pairing as you do, and write so beautifully but don’t get the credits that they deserve. We see you <3

The wedding
Sakura woke up with a knot in her stomach, so many things were going to happen today. She was going to be the center of attention, everyone would look at her expectantly, everyone would expect her to behave correctly, to be the perfect wife. Would everyone expect something to happen on their wedding night? That thought terrified her, did Sasuke expect something from her tonight? Maybe I should have listened to my mother when she wanted to tell me these things, she thought, now it's too late, the day has come.

look at me, love
Pairing: SasuSaku Word count: 3,196 Rated: K
Kakashi thinks he sees something akin to protectiveness in Sasuke’s usual glare during their run-in with the Kiri-nin. As soon as Sakura steps in front of Tazuna, kunai raised, Sasuke’s gaze is trained on her. When the two chuunins inevitably attack the bridge builder, and in the process head directly toward Sakura, Sasuke is in front of her within a heartbeat.
Kakashi smirks under his mask before capturing the two enemies before any of his team could get hurt. Sakura is blushing once she realizes that Sasuke-kun just protected her and Sasuke is back to acting as disinterested as ever. Then, Kakashi notices the wide gash on Naruto’s hand and sighs tiredly.
He sees it again, more in his movements then his eyes now. He instinctively moves in a way that he’s close enough to the girl if she needs to be protected. Kakashi wonders if it is because he sees her as his inferior, a weak being that needs protection, or because he is starting to care about his comrades more and more with each mission. He doesn’t have long to ponder, as Zabuza launches a new attack on him and he has to lure him away from the old man and the children.
. . .
When they enter the academy there is some sort of commotion – a fight! – happening. Naruto is about to urge his teammates to get closer to the action when he notices it. Sasuke is looking at Sakura with scrutiny. Naruto is used to seeing Sakura glance every so often at the raven-haired boy, only to be promptly ignored by him. He, however, has never noticed Sasuke looking at her. Sasuke averts his gaze without saying anything and Naruto decides to stay quiet as well – for now.
They approach what appears to be a smaller fight. Two guys don’t want to let them through, saying that being a chuunin with all its responsibilities is not something they can handle. They say they are just trying to spare the weaklings, to weed out the losers. Naruto is about the give them a piece of his mind, when Sasuke speaks up first.
“That’s nice and all…” he starts in a low tone, “but you still better let me through. And drop the genjutsu while you’re at it.” Naruto looks at his teammate with furrowed eyebrows and he listens as the small crowd around them starts murmuring. Many wonder what he is talking about, Naruto himself included.
One of the guys standing in front of the door smirked. “So you figured it out, huh?”
“It wasn’t hard to, right, Sakura?” Naruto’s eyes narrow into concentrated, suspicious slits. “With your analytical skills and knack for understanding and sensing genjutsu.” Sasuke smirks ever so slightly and Naruto’s lips purse as he wonders when Sasuke started handing out kind words, it surely was not like the teme to do so. Maybe this is part of the genjutsu, he thinks when Sakura speaks up.
“That’s right!” A pale blush is gracing her cheeks and her smile is bright as she glances at Sasuke. A determined look takes over though, as she looks back at the gatekeepers. “We’re quite obviously still on the second floor.”
“Well,” one of the guys says, “figuring it out isn’t enough to get through.” The other one dispels the genjutsu just as Sasuke gets ready to attack.
Naruto pays more attention to the looks Sasuke gives their female teammate from then on.
. . .
They are in the Forest of Death when Ino first sees it. The icy glare of the Uchiha wavering for a miniscule moment. She is too terrified of the marks racing over, covering his skin to pay it too much mind, though. He glares at the altercation in front of him, eyes aflame even without the sharingan activated.
He looks at the Oto shinobi and Ino is really glad she is not one of them. His eyes dart over to Sakura’s form, bruised and battered, hair chopped messily and Ino thinks that for a second, as his eyes focus on the details of her beaten up, shaken form, that the edges of his eyes soften. But just as soon as she sees it, it’s gone and he asks in a threateningly low voice, “Sakura, who did this to you?”
Ino is too terrified of what transpires next and she has to tightly shut her eyes when Sasuke breaks both arms of one of the Oto-nin. She shudders at the sound of bones cracking and almost forgets about the look she thought she’d seen in his eyes. But it’s there again, when Sakura finally gathers herself and runs to Sasuke, hugging him tightly from behind. Ino can see the rage slowly dissipate from his body, even the markings on his skin are starting to disappear as Sakura begs him to stop.
“Please, Sasuke-kun,” she cries. Ino sees Sasuke close his eyes, and when he opens them and looks over his shoulder at his teammate, she sees the tenderness there again. Ino’s crush on the boy ends that day, for more than one reason.
. . .
Naruto doesn’t know what exactly happened while he was unconscious in the Forest of Death, but he knows his teammates are keeping something from him. He sees it in Sasuke’s pointed glares toward Sakura when it looks like she’s about to say something. His gaze is always sharp, but never threatening toward the girl.
When Naruto sees Sasuke grab Sakura’s wrist and hold it firmly as he harshly whispers something, he thinks that maybe he imagined that look before the chuunin exams started. But then he realizes he’s still holding onto her arm long after Sakura stopped struggling against his grasp. He doesn’t see the Uchiha’s eyes but somehow, Naruto knows that the look was real and it’s there again.
. . .
Sakura doesn’t get to participate in the final round of the Chuunin Exams but she is beyond proud of her boys. She hasn’t seen much of them after the preliminaries, both of them busy training for the real thing. She sits down in her seat next to Ino, exited to see how her comrades will do against the other villages’ shinobi in the final rounds.
Sasuke’s fight is coming up with the scary Suna-nin with the gourd and forehead tattoo and Sakura can’t help but swallow nervously. She heard that he went through the Forest of Death without a scratch – and in record time! She knows Sasuke is strong, smart and talented, but she still feels nervous beads of sweat forming in her palms and on the back of her neck.
The fight quickly escalates and Sakura has the feeling that there is something larger at work here and her suspicions prove to be true when all of a sudden Sasuke’s match leaves the arena. She can feel her skin tingling and dispels the genjutsu, looking around, completely alert.
Soon she finds herself rushing after Sasuke and Gaara with Pakkun, Naruto and Shikamaru.
. . .
They can see trees swaying, some falling, and huge clouds of dust as they near the fight. As they approach, they can hear the sound of a thousand birds chirping, loud thuds and cracking of branches. Naruto glances at Sakura and he can see the anxiety clearly reflected in her clean, green orbs.
They can hear the clashing and when they arrive, Sasuke is lying on a branch, a weird sand creature is on another, getting ready to attack. Naruto is quick to jump into action, kicking the sand guy far away from Sasuke, while Sakura lands next to Sasuke’s trembling body. Naruto notes the weird marks covering Sasuke’s left side but doesn’t have time to dwell on it. Sakura is there to take care of him, Naruto has to stop the creature first and protect his friends, his village.
“Um, Sakura-chan?” he asks as the sand monster slowly gathers himself. “Who is that?”
“He may appear different but,” Pakkun grumbles, “that’s still the guy Sasuke was fighting in the arena.”
“What?!” Naruto’s jaw drops. He looks back just in time to see Gaara rushing toward them.
It is the fight of Naruto’s life. He’s never had to fight like this to protect the people precious to him, his teammates. Sakura gets captured in a sand trap early in the fight and Sasuke exhausted most of his chakra already in the arena fight and then chasing after Gaara.
“You have to,” Sasuke heaves, “protect her, Naruto.” There it was, that look in his eyes as they focused on Sakura’s unconscious form, just for a second. By the time he looks back at Naruto, it’s gone. “Promise me you’ll protect her.”
Naruto gulps and nods. “I’ll protect both of you,” he vows. I’ll protect everyone.
. . .
Sasuke leaves the village and Naruto fails to bring him back. There are no traces of the softness in his eyes when Naruto fights him at the Valley of the End.
When he wakes in the hospital and Sakura is there by his side, his heart clenches. She doesn’t notice him come to right away, so he has a few moments to observe her. Her eyes are glassy and the green isn’t as lively as it used to be not long ago. They are puffy and red all around and her skin is pale, almost ashen.
She notices that he’s awake and plasters a smile on her face, that almost reaches her eyes. But Naruto has seen her smile a thousand times now and he knows that she’s hurting. He knows it because her dimples aren’t showing and her eyes aren’t creasing ever so slightly in the corners and her bottom teeth are not showing like they do when she can’t contain her happiness. He knows it because he’s hurting too.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t bring him back,” he rasps. “But next time, I will.”
Sakura’s eyes glaze over and she looks out the window. A new kind of haze settles over her gaze as it focuses on something. Naruto follows her line of sight out the window and sees the village gates.
. . .
Naruto’s back in the village and Sakura almost crushes him when she hugs him upon his arrival.
“Naruto!” she beams at him brightly, dimples and bottom teeth showing, eyes creasing. Naruto thinks that she’s most beautiful like this.
“Wow, Sakura-chan! Careful!” he warns. “You’re going to snap me in two,” he says, rubbing his side.
. . .
Team Kakashi is on their way to one of Orochimaru’s hideouts. Sakura’s eyes are determined, hard around the edges and Naruto realizes just how much she’s changed, how much she’s grown. She looks straight ahead, eyes never wavering, the only giveaway that she’s nervous are her cracked lips from all the biting. Her dimples are none existent and the only time her eyes crease is when she squints to see what’s ahead.
Naruto thinks he always loves Sakura but he’ll always prefer the happy gleam in her eyes to the firm haze that’s in them right now.
. . .
They find Sasuke. He is gazing down at them from above the ruins of the underground hideout. He looks at Sakura only for a moment but Naruto sees it all the same. The brief change in his eyes. The dilation of his pupils for a split second, how the blacks of his irises almost seem dark charcoal. But it’s gone as soon as it came and his eyes harden, darken as they settle over Naruto and their new teammate, Sai.
. . .
Karin may be blindly in love but she is not blind. She also pays closer attention to Sasuke than most things. She knows the way he carries himself, proudly – almost smugly, really. She knows that his eyes are unreadable most of the time, and even if you can detect any emotion in them, it is anger, fury, rage. She knows the way he walks, the way he inhales and exhales, the way his fingers twitch before he reaches for his katana and the way they twitch before he readies his fist to throw a punch. She knows the way he lands on his feet and the way he raises – gracefully, magnificently. She knows the way he laughs menacingly as he spirals into insanity upon losing his brother, and she knows the way the last embers of fire die out in his gaze after he loses everything.
Karin, however, does not know the look that’s in his eyes right now. His old teammate, a loud girl with annoyingly pink hair and unbelievably green eyes stands in front of them. Karin sees Sasuke’s eyes change. She’s used to seeing it flash from their usual onyx to a searing vermilion but she’s never seen them go from… a blank, bottomless black to a deep charcoal. She’s never seen Sasuke’s pupil dilate, in fact, his eyes have never seemed light enough to tell where his pupils ended and his irises began.
He regains control of his emotions, if there’s any left in him other than rage and grief, and a deep, deep desire for revenge and the look is gone. Karin isn’t sure if she really saw it or just imagined it because of chakra depletion and blood loss. When Sasuke tells the pinkette that she can replace Karin if she kills her, Karin is sure that she must have imagined it, that it was just her brain playing sick games with her in her last moments.
She passes out and when she wakes, she is imprisoned in Konoha. She wonders if the girl went with Sasuke or if maybe he killed her. She’s sure she didn’t kill Sasuke, not with the tremble in her otherwise determined voice, not with the clear love written across her bright eyes, not with the heartbreak evident in her broken smile.
Karin wonders… if perhaps the look in Sasuke’s eye was real… if maybe it will be this girl that finally reaches him, that manages to pull him out of the bottomless pit of despair and grief he fell into, if maybe she’ll be able to stop him before he destroys himself and everything around him.
. . .
Everyone with eyes can see it. Sakura crushes half the White Zetsu army to dust and the earth opens up underneath her fist, swallowing the other half of the amry. Uchiha Sasuke smirks. He tries to hide it with an arm, but he’s a second too late. Kakashi sees it and thinks that there may be hope still for his former student. For the boy who lost too much at too young an age. Naruto sees it too and all he can think about is that he might just get his best friend back.
He looks at Sakura, and she doesn’t seem to have noticed the smug pride that graced the Uchiha’s lips, but Naruto beams in her direction as she kicks an enemy so hard, they split in half. She doesn’t know it yet, but maybe she will have what she’s always dreamed about, they might save Sasuke yet. They might bring him home.
Naruto looks back at Sasuke and he’s still watching as Sakura demolishes any and all enemy forces coming their way. He thinks he sees that same look on Sasuke’s face that he saw all those years ago at the beginning of the Chuunin Exams. Team 7 is back in action! Finally!
. . .
Kakashi sees it clear as day now. The boy might have lost an arm in the process, but along with it disappeared all the rage and fury and grief bottled up in that tattered heart of his. It is clearer now than it ever has been before. As he looks up at the girl who is trying tirelessly to save his life.
“I’m sorry,” he says quietly, “for everything up until now.”
He is fighting to stay conscious, just so he may look at her longer. Her cheeks may be strained with the dirt of the battle field, streaked with old tears as new ones form in her eyes. Her clothes may be ripped and her hair may be a mess but… Oh, yes, Kakashi can see it clearly in Sasuke’s eyes.
. . .
He doesn’t say it but Sakura knows. When she wakes up, she always finds charcoal eyes tracing the lines of her face. Every once in a while, there’s a hint of fiery red in them. When she comes home from a mission those same eyes wait for her at the gates and she swears they shine brighter than the morning sun as two calloused fingers touch her forehead. They are the same eyes that snap open when Sasuke’s had a nightmare and look for her own irises for comfort, always softening and glazing over when their owner realizes that she is there.
She knows it from the amused crinkle at the corners of his eyes when she’s made a fool of herself. She knows it from the worried mist when he scrutinizes her after she’s been injured. She knows it from the way the right one glows red in the dark when they are making love.
. . .
“Papa?” Sasuke hears his daughter speak. His gaze has been focused on Sakura for a while now. She’s been going from stall to stall, chatting with the vendors, laughing and buying this and that. Sasuke stands with Sarada to the side, holding an already full basket in his hand, while Sarada clutches his empty sleeve on his other side.
“Yes?” he asks, eyes still trailing after his wife.
“Why do you always look at Mama like that?”
Sasuke furrows his brows and finally, slowly averts his gaze from Sakura to look down at his daughter. “Like what?”
“Not like this. But like you were a second ago,” Sarada responds. “Like,” she struggles to find the right words.
            “Like?” Sasuke prompts.
“Like her patients’ families look at her when they saved their lives and like when Boruto looks at Naruto-oji-chan when he sees him use the Kyuubi’s powers flawlessly and like Baba looks at Jiji when he cleans up the whole house when she has to stay late at work and like Ino-oba-chan looks at Sai-oji-chan right before they slam the door behind Inojin and like Mikoto-obaa-chan looks at Fugaku-ojii-san in that photo in our living room? But like all of these looks combinated all together?”
Sasuke has never been a man of many words but he finds it especially hard to come up with the right words now. So he opts to correct his daughter’s grammar instead. “Combined. Combinated in not a word.”
“Papa,” Sarada sighs, exasperated, in a way only a five-year-old can be. “Why do you look at Mama like you never want to look away?”
Sasuke’s eyes focus on his wife again as he sees her heading towards them. He knows what Sarada was talking about, of course. Even he can feel the hard edges and wrinkles around his eyes smoothing out as his gaze fixes on Sakura’s blinding smile, all teeth and dimples and crinkles eyes.
“Because she is precious to me,” he finally says.
Sarada may not have awakened her sharingan yet but even she can see that no man looks at a woman quite the way her Papa looks at her Mama.

Anyone remember that sasusaku fic from years ago?? I think Sasuke was dying and his lungs were burning. Sasuke and Sakura weren't particularly in a romantic relationship. He wanted to die but she wanted to save him. The beautiful part that I remember was that his lungs were dying and he was in pain but they were making out??? And Sakura says something like "feel how alive you are" because she wanted him to want to live. I really can't remember the details but it's bugging me so badly. Most likely an M rated and angst fic.

Sakura Uchiha, Seven Months into her pregnancy
Midst the time Sakura and Sasuke had travelled the world, the newlywed couple had arrived to a town that had been known for holding its outer worldly magic fare; hand in hand, the duo had entered a tent that had been one of the most popular stops in the Magic Fare, Sakura had begged Sasuke to see a tarot reader and Sasuke had not really been the man to believe in this type of stuff, but when he saw the excitement on Sakura’s face, the dark-haired man had easily given in.
The tent they had entered was large, dim and ominous but the further they had walked down the tent they more they had observed the slightly melted tall candles that densely lighted the area, soon after, the duo had stopped in front of a long and slim black table which had a cloaked old woman sit behind the furniture, when she had felt the couple’s existence she had slowly pulled down her hood to reveal her face to the young couple, her face wrinkled and her eyes glinted with corrupt interest when she had felt the desiring energy of the pregnant woman.
“Welcome,” the lady gently croaked out ere she lifted her smoking pipe and pulled a puff, arbitrary, Sasuke had looked at the woman who had been bold enough to smoke in front a pregnant lady up and down, Sakura had felt just as judgmental as her husband but had decided to take the kinder route.
“Hello,” Sakura kindly smiled before she had tugged Sasuke’s only hand for the two of them to sit down.
“You’ll have to pay before I answer your questions,” the old lady clarified and open to give her the money, Sakura had attempted to pull out her purse but had immediately been stopped by her husband. “845 yen,” the cloaked lady commented and silent, Sasuke had taken out the amount of money the lady had required before she began her skill.
Eerily grateful, the woman had winked at the two and had been humoured at the contrast they had both held. “What do you want the reading to be about?” The cloaked woman questioned and in thought, Sakura had rubbed the swollen baby bump.
“The future of our twin children,” Sakura excitedly replied and interested, the ominous woman had begun to shuffle her cards.
Excited, Sakura had lightly squeezed Sasuke’s paw just as she had watched the display of the woman’s artistry. Moreover, as much as Sasuke had expressed himself to be uninterested his curiosity had slowly grown as single cards fell out of the cloaked woman’s hands. “I’ll begin with the first child,” the elderly woman began, “the Magician, Queen of Pentacles, King of Swords, Page of Swords and Four of Wands.”
Confused, the newlywed couple had tilted their head at the foreign information, but they had remained silent and patiently waited for the older woman to explain what the cards had meant. “This first child will grow to be someone who is very intelligent, very healthy child but she will be unsure about her path.”
Happy with the message, Sakura’s lips twisted into a content smile, softly, she had pulled herself closer to the lady, inquisitive to hear more. “The first twin will be very family-oriented, beautiful, giving and very protective over her family. She’ll be intelligent and very skilled with her inherited powers.”
Furtherly captivated with what the old lady had to say, Sasuke knitted down his eyebrows while the lady had picked up the fallen cards and began to shuffle the thin objects once more. “These next cards will be for the second baby,” and soon after, the Empress, the Lovers and Knight of Cups fell out, and mesmerised, Sakura’s eyes glowed at the artistry of the maturely used pieces of billet until the rest of the cards fell out.
“THE TOWER, DEATH AND THE DEVIL.” The cards read out and briskly, Sakura could feel fear strike her heart, Sakura hadn’t been skilled with the use of cards, but she can tell that what had fell in front of her weren’t good news.
With a complicated look on her face, the cloaked woman’s eyes fell against the cards that had fell out from her shuffling. Yet, reticent, the woman had returned her gaze towards the young couple who were now equally apprehensive with the intel the cloaked woman had.
“The second child…” the woman awkwardly began, “very, very stunning, very beautiful,” she smiled, “but very chaotic if not watched properly,” eventually confident with her reading, the elderly woman had lifted her head up towards Sasuke and Sakura and widely smiled. “This child, will be very powerful, terrifyingly powerful but…she would be this powerful, only if she makes it.”
Startled, Sakura’s eyes widened in confusion. “Makes it?” Sakura hesitatingly whispered.
Strong on her answer, the cloaked woman nodded her head. “Only if she makes it, I feel the second baby’s power and energy already, too much for a little thing to carry, the power will kill the little thing before you could even push her out---”
“Enough!” Sasuke exclaimed, angered by the gruesome details the lady had scared Sakura with, appalled, the tall man had pulled his wife up to her feet and without second thought, the Uchiha man had led the pink-haired pregnant woman out of the tent while the elderly woman shouted behind them.
“If she survives the birth, she won’t survive her younger years!” The lady croaked out, eager for the couple to hear her final words for them.
Tumblr media
“So why have you brought me here?” The dark-haired man rudely questioned, currently Naruto had teleported himself out of Konoha to converse with the reticent Uchiha man, the grumpy man distant as ever. “You interrupted my private mission.”
“Hello to you too,” Naruto candidly smiled and without response, the blond-haired man understood that it was him that had to continue the conversation. “She almost died.”
Confused, Sasuke had suddenly turned his sight towards the whiskered man, “Who’s she?” Sasuke questioned as he stood up straight against the large tree his wide back had been leaned against.
“Suiren,” Naruto lowly muttered and confused, Sasuke pulled himself off the tree.
“What happened?” Sasuke questioned; his voice rushed and soon after, Naruto placed his hands together as he readied himself to explain the previous events.
“Her team were sent on a mission to retrieve something back for the Land of the Water, the Water Stone that had been tracked by a group called the Prism, during the mission, Suiren and her team-mate, Raiden got captured and poisoned by them, it affected Suiren more and when she came back Sakura told me she had already looked dead. It scared her, Sasuke, she wants Suiren to take a short break from missions, and at first, I was unsure about it, but now I think it was a good call,” Naruto explained and thoughtful, Sasuke had stared at his feet.
“I’ll check out the Prism Tower,” Sasuke informed, marginally tense by the intel he was informed by his teammate.
Understanding, Naruto had learned his back against one of the tree barks that stood tall in the area they had been. “A team-mate of Suiren said that she burned part of the Prism Tower into crisp.”
“The team-mate being Raiden? Who is the boy?” The father asked and humoured, Naruto’s eyes twinkled.
With a knowing smile on his face, the blue-eyed man crossed his arms. “Raiden comes from the Nakumura clan, the clan that came to live in our village after the war happened, the clan owns the Genjutsu known as the Dekishigan.”
“Humble family, a good one, they’ll give no issues if that’s what you’re thinking.”
Unimpressed by Naruto’s last comment, Sasuke rolled his eyes, yet, acceptive of the information brought to him. “How are Sarada and Sakura?” Sasuke questioned.
“They’re doing okay,” Naruto proudly answered and glad Sasuke beckoned his head.
“It’s for the best for Suiren to not take part in any missions for now,” Sasuke spoke while the shuddering memories of the past crawled back into his mind.
“Suiren will break the rules sooner or later, she’s a fighter and she have your personality,” Naruto smirked and lauded by his comment, Sasuke wrapped his hand around his sword as he readied himself to leave the conversation.
“I’ll go to the land of Water and see what’s going on there,” Sasuke informed and appreciative Naruto lightly thanked him.
Without another word, the man had disappeared without bidding a goodbye, humoured by his usual aloof personality. “Hm, Sasuke, distant as usual.”
Tumblr media
The moment Suiren was told her team had been assigned to a new mission for the end of this week, the girl knew she would spend most of her days watching her group train or spending time with Sarada or helping her mother out in the hospital. As much as she had understood why her mother had wanted her to take a mini break, the long-haired girl wanted to train, the Chunin Exams were coming up and Suiren had wanted to be skilled enough to win.
Currently, she had rested her back against a large rock as she had watched Raiden and Akane fight Ren, Suiren had easily noticed that Raiden had pushed his limits within the training, Akane had done so as well, but Raiden had pushed himself furtherly.
When Suiren was in the hospital, and awake, Ren and Akane had visited her, both remorseful that they had left behind Raiden and Suiren in the forest, but Suiren had mentioned that it was okay; Akane had also brought in white flower lilies which Suiren had been taking care of with the help of her mother and sister. On the other hand, Sensei Ren had brought in mochi donuts which were known to be Suiren’s favourite dessert.
Eventually, Ren had informed Akane and Raiden that they could take a break so when the duo had left Sensei Ren, they had immediately joined the grumpy Uchiha. Sat in a triangle formation Akane and Raiden began to drink from their water bottle aware with how crabby Suiren had appeared.
“You, okay?” Raiden asked and grouchy, Suiren had sat up while she had played with her fingers.
“I’m fine,” she muttered, bored, “but everything is so dull now.”
“Is us fighting boring you?” Akane joked and comically, Suiren rolled her eyes.
“You two training is entertaining and I just want to join in,” Suiren explained.
“I’d allow you but I don’t want your mother after me,” Sensei Ren joked just as he sat down next to them after he had neared himself near his students.
Humoured, Suiren rolled her eyes. “Meaning you’re a wuss?”
Entertained, Ren had mocked Suiren’s movements and rolled his eyes while he gestured with his right hand for Akane and Ren to stand back up. “Back to training,” and annoyed the two students had groaned while they had dragged themselves back to their feet.
As the two had walked a comfortable distance to battle each other, Ren had plopped himself next to his bothered student. “Raiden feels the most guilty,” Ren truthfully informed.
“I can tell,” Suiren muttered, “it’s not his fault. Either way, I’m embarrassed that all I did was collapse.”
Bugged, Ren poked Suiren’s body. “That’s not all what you did, like certainly.”
“I was weak,” Suiren commented and by the corner of her eyes, she could see the way her Sensei had shook his head in dispute. “My mother doesn’t want me fighting anymore because I almost died.”
“You were poisoned by an unknown substance that made you that way,” Ren explained while he pulled Suiren into a side-hug, “don’t feel insecure, you’re the strongest little girl I know and you’re my superstar.”
Embarrassed, Suiren had awkwardly smiled at his compliment. “You don’t need to do all this.”
With strife, Ren reticently disagreed with her. “Yes, I do.”
“I know you’re doing it because you know I miss my dad,” Suiren verily pointed out, and it was true, Ren had understood that Suiren had missed Sasuke deeply, thus he took the initiative to be the fatherly energy Suiren had needed. Even though she pretended she did not need one,
Sarada had Iruka Sensei, and Suiren had Ren. Suiren had liked Iruka Sensei, but she liked Ren more and spent more time with him, since Ren was her teacher.
“If me calling you my super star makes you uncomfortable, then I’ll stop,” Ren gently reassured and indifferent, Suiren shrugged her shoulders while she had watched her teammates fight each other.
As she had pulled her legs against her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs, silent, Suiren had pressed her chin against her knees. Observant with how she had watched Raiden and Akane had fought with Taijutsu and Ninjutsu, eventually in deep thought, Suiren trailed her dark eyes contra to her Sensei. “I want to make a Jutsu.”
Surprised, Ren sat up, stunned by the girl’s random thought. “Are you ready…for that?” Ren curiously questioned while his voice analytically trailed off.
“I’m sure,” Suiren confidently nodded her head.
Still bewildered, Ren lifted his head as his astonished energy easily transformed into a commodity of emotion that was proud and honoured. “You always surprise me, you know that?” The dark-haired man laughed while he boastfully patted Suiren’s head who had grinned in contentment.
Tumblr media
Suiren remembered when uncle Sai had told her and Sarada that their mother used to be a terrible cook, at first the long-haired girl pointed him out to be a liar with the help of her sister, but with the commentary of the other uncles and aunties, the two twins were easily proven that Sai was right, especially due to uncle Naruto’s comments. Even though the two had been upset they didn’t win their petty argument, they ended up laughing about the fact of their mother’s embarrassing cooking past and thanked the Gods that they live with the Sakura that can cook.
Directly, the three had eaten together in their home, and Sakura had made sure she had included Suiren’s favourite dessert, mochi, Suiren could tell that her mother had done this to make Suiren feel less worse about not fighting and bettering her skills and silently, Suiren had thanked her mother even though the pink-haired lady had never verbalised why she had always presented the dessert.
“I want to have dinner with your team soon,” Sakura began and shocked by the random need, Suiren raised both of her eyebrows.
“A-are you sure?” Suiren suspiciously questioned, and it wasn’t like Suiren had thought her team were not the best to have around for dinner, it was due to the fact that Suiren’s team and her mother had such demanding and strict schedules.
Adamant to have them over, Sakura had nodded her head. “I haven’t really gotten to know your team,” Sakura truthfully replied, “but I do know your Sensei Ren and I was told by Sarada that the two of you have a really strong connection.”
“How’s the poison research going?” Suiren casually questioned and with how abrupt Suiren had changed the topic, Sakura had furrowed her eyebrows, apprehensive.
“The research is going well,” Sakura spelled out, “which reminds me that we have to do a health check-up after you eat.”
Internally, Suiren had groaned but had respectfully obeyed her mother’s wishes and continued to take part of the nice dinner she had shared with her small family, but as Suiren had swallowed her food her eyes slowly trailed to their family pictures and identified the images that had included her mother, their father, Sarada and baby pictures of herself along with her twin.
Suiren had wished that they had more pictures together, especially images with all of them together, merely due to the fact that she had known that Sarada had felt upset about the lack of family pictures, though, her older sister knew that it had also upset Suiren. Hushed, Suiren had dragged out the depressive thought out of her mind while she had felt Sarada’s foot lightly kick hers under the table.
“How was it watching your teammates fight?” Sarada curiously questioned and unmoved, Suiren shrugged her shoulders.
“It was entertaining but boring at the same time because I couldn’t join in,” Suiren truthfully answered.
“It’s for the best,” their mother muttered, “it’s for the best for you to not fight or go to any missions right now, for your health and for my mental health,” she poorly joked and clumsily Suiren had smiled at her mother’s poor attempt of humour.
“It’s okay mama,” she whispered just as Suiren’s eyes fell down to her food, she could see by the edges of her eyes that their mother had placed her hands against her hips.
“I’m not doing this to be mean,” Sakura pointed out and annoyed by how her mother dragged the conversation, Suiren had finally lifted her head.
“I understand, mama.”
With a quick closed sound, Sakura had returned her hands to her chopsticks. “You have the same attitude as your father,” Sakura lightly whispered and sarcastically flattered, Suiren had beamed at her mother’s words before she continued to eat her food.
Tumblr media
Suiren didn’t realise how tired she was when she had easily drifted into sleep, an hour prior to her slumber, her mother had done a health check on her then had strictly sent Suiren to go catch her exhaust. Sarada had offered Suiren to sleep in her room but Suiren said that she’d rather sleep on her own tonight.
The moment Suiren had successfully fell asleep she could still feel her sensory awake as she had become transported into somewhere new. Thankfully, the atmosphere wasn’t entirely white or black, but the area had reminded Suiren of Venus’ atmosphere.
Before Suiren could take in the realm deeply, she had heard the flapped wings of Sora who had gently flown towards her, loudly, the Dragon had landed in front of her and due to his size and weight, the grounds had softly shook.
“What do you want with me?” Suiren forwardly spoken, her voice strong to display the tiredness she had held of the number of times she couldn’t have a simple dream.
Observant of her exhausted energy, slowly, Sora had looked Suiren up and down. “You need to get it back.”
“Be clearer of what you’re talking about,” Suiren commanded and humoured by her bold voice and tone that had been spread with demand, Sora couldn’t help but smile at Suiren’s found confidence.
“The Water Stone,” Sora simply replied and in conflict, Suiren shook her head.
With her hands clenched and beside her, Suiren sternly looked at the beast that had laid in front of her. “The Stone has to be protected,” he continued.
“You’re the amplifier, you make the stones stronger than it previously was,” Sora clarified, “you need to retrieve all of the stones to help you control the Dragon Spirit, and the power that comes along with it.”
“The Dragon Spirit,” Suiren thoughtfully worded out, “meaning you.”
Humoured, Sora dryly laughed. “Yes.”
“How comes the spirit can’t be given to anyone else?” Suiren questioned, with her head slightly tilted in curiosity, the young girl had pondered why she had been given such power.
It was not like Suiren had hated it, but she began to dislike the burden she would slowly have to carry. “The Dragon spirit in another body will kill them.”
“But I’m a little girl,” Suiren quickly pointed out.
“Yet, still stronger than any other vessel,” Sora briskly replied aware with the unsure look Suiren had plastered on her face.
“I don’t get it, how did your spirit come inside me?” Suiren questioned, Suiren had wondered if her parents had known any of this, and if they did, Suiren had internally asked why they haven’t told her anything.
“It was already inside you,” Sora began, “before Humans or Ninjas existed in this world, I had wandered the Earth with other beasts, beasts not as strong as me,” the Dragon comically included and Suiren thought that if Sora had been a Human, she’d see a huge smirk on his face.
Understanding that his explanation could take a lengthy duration, the young girl had slowly sat on the floor, concentrated with the context the Dragon had yet to tell her. “My time in the world had caused it to shift, and crumble, so I had to turn myself into a spirit for troubles to become less disruptive and destructive, but it wasn’t enough.”
“When I wasn’t in a vessel, it had caused world problems to happen, wars, fast death, famine, all types of crimes you can think of became worse as time proceeded and Humans began to populate the world. The moment I had realised that my power was too much for the world to handle, every day, I had looked for a vessel, and I tried, and it always ended with stillborns who couldn’t handle the powerful pressure with holding my power when they were in the womb. So, when I realised that every time I tried, a child died in their mother, I had stopped until millenniums later, I had felt strong endurance come from your mother’s womb, from you and I chose you.”
In silence, Suiren had fiddled with her fingers as she had thought of her response, reticent, the young girl had glared up at the beast, irritated her nose had flared. “Fuck you,” Suiren breathed out and right after she had briskly stood to her feet, the long-haired girl had turned her back towards the entity ready to leave the realm.
“It’s not your destiny to have my spirit inside of you, but fate,” Sora answered, he was aware that Suiren wouldn’t have been happy with the news he had now told her, moreover, he was correct that Suiren would never be able to avoid this.
Angrily, Suiren turned her body to face him once more. “I don’t want this,” Suiren rudely seethed out.
“The world will become more destructive if you attempt to take it out of you,” Sora answered and immediately he could see the way her lips wobbled in frustration. “There’ll be benefits of being tied to me.”
With contest, Suiren had examined the beast up and down, her face full with hostility. “And what would be the benefits?”
“Becoming the most powerful person that’s ever walked the universe,” Sora influenced, his tone marginally desperate to ease the young girl, especially with the way she had bounced her shoulders for the lack of care she had for his point, “you’ll be able to speak to the dead,” and quickly Suiren’s head perked up at Sora’s current sentence.
Surprised, Suiren had crossed her arms, finally intrigued to know what else Sora had to say, but for her luck the young Uchiha had eventually woke up from her slumber.

Sasuke is a senior college student that frequents the library during his free time. He likes to stay there because 1) the temperature is perfect, 2) it's quiet, and 3) no one bothers him. He always sits at his self-proclaimed spot near the last shelf.
Finals are coming, so professors let the students study during their classes. They are still required to report for attendance but they're not required to study in the classroom. Sasuke takes this opportunity to stay at the library and pass time.
He goes to the 3rd floor and enters the room. To his dismay, his spot is not available. That whole section is under renovation. He doesn't want to share desks, so he goes to the table by the window.
He takes out a random book from his bag and pretends to study. He looks around and looks out the window eventually. He sees someone slumped on the floor outside the building across. It seems that she's also studying by the looks of the scattered books and notebooks around her. Sasuke takes out a notebook and starts drawing random things. Every once in a while he can't help but look down the window.
"It's been hours and she's still there. With that number of books and readings, she must be a pre-med student," he reckons. He checks the time and packs his things. At exactly 4 PM, he leaves the library and calls it a day.
The following days are routinary. Sasuke notices that the girl is at her "spot" everyday, too. "For three consecutive days, I never saw her eat. Not even once. And she stays there longer than my stay here at the library." Sasuke isn't sure if his conclusion is true, so he decides to observe her keenly on the 4th day.
"So, she doesn't really eat, huh. How can she even study?" he wonders.
On the 5th day, he goes to the university earlier than usual, making sure he's there earlier than her. He leaves a paper bag on her spot. He rushes to the library and looks out the window to wait for her arrival.
She comes and immediately sees the paper bag with big "To pink-haired girl" on it. She looks around but sees no one. She opens the bag and sees a disposable bento box and a note. It reads:
Hello! I noticed that you don't eat the entire time you're studying. Please have this. I swear it's not poisoned and I swear I'm not a creep. (drawing of a T-rex)
She places the bag to the side and starts studying. This frustrates Sasuke. It seems to him that she doesn't plan to eat the food. He opens his notebook and starts doodling instead. After an hour, he decides to go out and have some snacks. He glances at the window and sees the girl eating the bento meal he gave. "Damnit, how did I miss her opening the bento?" He stays and watches until she finishes the food. "I'm not sure if she liked it, but I guess she finished everything.."
---
Monday comes and Sasuke prepares another bento box for her. "Why am I even doing this for a stranger," he thinks as he rolls another maki.
He goes back to the spot and leaves the bag. He notices something posted on the wall. He goes near it and reads the note on a stationery:
Dear Dino-san,
Thanks for the food, but more importantly, thanks for your concern! The beef gyudon and mushrooms were tasty. I enjoyed the fruits as well!
Please don't worry about me. I'll bring snacks for myself next time.
Thanks again! Good luck on your exams!
Pink hair (✿˶’◡˘)♡
Sasuke smiles as he pulls the paper. He quickly pens a note and leaves it in the bag.
He's at his spot, anticipating the girl's reaction.
She opens the bag and sees two notes:
1st note:
Hi, I hope you liked the 1st one. Here's your supply for today. Eat and study well! (drawing of a T-rex)
|||
2nd note:
It's too late! :P
Also, if you're referring to protein bars or chewing gums for snacks, don't even think about it! Let me give you food until your exams are over. It's easy to make because I also prepare food for myself.
(cuter T-rex drawing)
She smiles at the note. Her smile is so big that it's evident from where Sasuke is sitting. It makes him very happy.
---
In the following days, he prepares more complicated dishes. They still exchange notes and in just few days, they become comfortable which each other, ranting about things. She says:
The food is super good but you're making me fat, Dino-san. (ू˃̣̣̣̣̣̣︿˂̣̣̣̣̣̣ ू)
Our exam in Cell Bio was super hard. I quit!!! (◕︿◕✿)
How come you have so much time preparing food? Don't you need to review too? └| ∵ |┘
What's your favorite dinosaur? I feel like it's not T-rex. You just draw it because it's the easiest one. 乁༼☯‿☯✿༽ㄏ
On Friday, Sasuke goes to her spot as usual. He takes the note posted on the wall and reads it:
Dino-san,
Sorry I forgot to tell you that today (Thu) is my last day of exams. I don't need to review anymore. Sorry, I won't be at my spot tomorrow (Fri). ◕︵◕
—Haruno Sakura
"Sakura..," he sighs as he puts the note into his bag. He picks up the paper bag and goes on his way.
He's still thinking about the note. "Haruno Sakura.. I must research about her when I get to the library." He goes to his spot..
"Dino-san!!"
It's the pink-haired girl sitting on his spot. She extends her hand for a handshake.
He reaches for her hand. "U-Uchiha Sasuke. S-Sakura, right?" He's very nervous yet excited. She's prettier face-to-face.
Sakura nods and they sit down. She looks outside, "so, this is where you look at me.. It's unfair that I couldn't even see you! Hmm. That angle is super unflaterring. I'm sure my forehead is big from this view.."
Sasuke laughs. "Not at all!" He continues laughing. "Sakura.. How did you know where I sit? Did you ask the librarian?"
"You underestimate the Science girl in me, huh?" she says as she giggles. "I used two mirrors. One regular and one convex."
"What? When? I didn't notice."
"Of course I didn't make it obvious. I used these." She shows the small mirrors that she used. "It was quite hard to see but I guess after 3 days, I was able to figure it out."
"That's— That's ingenious.."
She giggles again. "Thanks. I should have extra marks from my prof for applying Physics in my daily life." She bursts into laughter and takes out her phone. "Then I used this to zoom in. Then I saw you.. The cute Dino-san.. Who's always looking after me. Thank you, Sasuke-kun."
"Sasuke-kun.." he repeats while smiling at the thought that she mentioned his name that way.
"You said you're also preparing food for yourself. I guess my theory is correct that you only make bento for me." She pouts while crossing her arms.
"I'm sorry for lying. I don't have enough time to make two."
"From now on, I'll prepare your bento meal. In fact, I made you one for today."
"Y-You did?"
"Yes! So, I'll be on Dino diet and you'll be on Sakura diet. I'll make you fat too!"
Sasuke laughs and stares at her.
"Thank you, Sasuke-kun. My studies became easier when I learned that someone was cheering me on. Honestly, I was stress-eating before. I feel like your meals made me healthier."
"You're welcome. I'm glad I did that. And– And you're not fat. I don't know where you get that idea but you're not. And even so, you're still.. You're still.."
"I'm still what? Cute?" she laughs it off.
"Still beautiful.."
She blushes. "Stop! I might believe you if you'll continue with that."
He smiles and nods.
"Hmm. Your finals week isn't done right? So now, let me support you too in my own little ways.. Well, if you'll let me.." Sakura offers sincerely.
"Yes, please.."
"Okay, I know you have an exam later. Give me your arm!"
He extends his arm. She sits beside him and takes his wrist. "Don't move.. You said your favorite dinosaur is stegosaurus.. I practiced drawing it.." She's so focused with her drawing. He takes this time to observe her —how her hair and her scent are so fragrant, how her hands are so warm and soft. "There! That's your good luck charm. I'm sure you'll do good with that and the food that I made in your stomach."
Tumblr media
"Thanks, Sakura.. The drawing.. I'm not sure if that's a dino going fast with the skateboard or it's his fart." They both share a laugh.
"Silence!!!" The librarian warned.

Oh fuck. 300 bookmarks??
Thank you to everyone who's here because of Something Left to Save. Everything about this journey has surprised me. How warmly I was welcomed into the fandom despite being so late to the party. The encouragement and excitement for my take on the Blank Period. How not a single person has ever once complained about my inconsistent update schedule, but instead thanks me every time I do update. How patient everyone is with the slow burn; that people are seemingly genuinely happy to see the team dynamics and minor characters too.
I'm especially thankful for the heartfelt solidarity on how I've explored overlooked, underdeveloped characters. We [the 'girls, gays and theys'] deserved so much better. It's been joyful and it's been healing for me to see so many people relating to and/or appreciating Sakura in this story.
Thank you so so much🖤

Sakura Week Day 1: Traveling Doctor
“There you go now, all done.” The little boy peeked an eye open, he hadn’t felt the needle go into his arm like he would have imagined. “You’re such a brave boy.” Sakura smiled scribbling something down before handing him a lollypop for a job well done. “Thank you doctor,” he happily took it and ran out the door excited to tell his mom on how brave he was. Sakura smiled and went to wash her hands before heading to what was her office. She had told them that she didn’t need one as she was only here for a short while, but they insisted as it was ‘the least they could do.’ An elderly woman walked in not long after with a basket, most likely her lunch and sat on the chair in front of her placing it on the table for them. “Someone’s certainly Miss popular around here, of course you get that from me.” Sakura could only roll her eyes at the woman’s comment. The only reason she was popular was because everyone in the small village already knew her before she was known as Tsunade’s pupil and strong kunoichi. Even before she was on squad seven.
“So have you thought about my offer?” “Grandma, I told you and pops that I’m only here for a couple of weeks.” Considering Naruto and Sasuke had done their fair share of adventures outside Konoha village Sakura decided it was her turn. Tsunade had given her the go ahead and even gave a few pointers on which places could do with a doctor like her. With her medical knowledge Sakura wanted to help as many people as she could. Including teaching anyone who wanted to learn. She had previously stopped by two other places before visiting her grandparents, as they were the next closest destination. It had felt amazing! Being able to travel with no mission, taking her time to soak in the place, enjoying the views and most importantly, helping those in need. She loved her home, but they didn’t need her now. Not when other people could do with her help so much more and the more people, she teaches the more they’ll be able to help other people and so on. As for her grandparents, her father asked her to check in on them, the two were civilians and as such their house was far from the village they lived nearby at considering they liked their privacy. It was where her father grew up and met her mother. However, they were getting older now so being far away from people would do them no good if they couldn’t get to them in time.
What if one of them had a fall, it would still take too long for the other to go and get help. She hoped she could convince them to travel and stay in Konoha so their son could take care of them.
I know they can be stubborn but if there’s anyone who can convince them it’s you. You are a doctor now, one of the best. They’ll have to listen to you. Kizashi had trusted his daughter to look after them and she didn’t want to let him down. Her grandfather would be easier to convince but her grandma loved the place. If she could at least show her what she was capable of then maybe she could persuade her. What she didn’t expect was her to try and set her up with some stranger, they had grew attached to.
They had first met him a few years back with his friends and invited them in as they needed shelter from the storm. He popped by a few months back, even helping around the house. He promised he’ll pay them another visit so now her grandmother has a crazy scheme to set them up.
“And? You can spare one day to go on a date, right? You know that’s how your parents met, and how your pops and I met and-” “Yes, I know. You’ve told me this story before.” About how this village is the place where a Haruno would supposedly meet their loved one. Sure, it’s sweet but Sakura had already met her love in Konoha. Her grandmother scoffed as she took out some sandwiches for them to eat. “You youths today, you act too mature for your own good. Sure, I’m proud of the woman you became but your young and single, you should have some fun too. Especially being a kunoichi, you’re less likely to reach your parents age let alone our age.” It wasn’t a secret that her grandparents didn’t like the fact that she was a ninja. She was their only grandchild of course they’d be worried; they didn’t want to lose her before it was their time. Sakura understood their fears and figured maybe she could at least entertain her. “And he’s a shinobi, just like you. I’m sure the two of you will hit it off.” That certainly piqued her interest. A shinobi? Who was travelling by themselves and even stopped by to help her elderly grandparents? Of course, ninjas were meant to help those in need but one travelling by themselves and even as going as far as to help with unnecessary chores such as fixing the roof, doing their groceries, and chopping wood?
She didn’t want to get her hopes up, but really what lone ninja would do such a thing? “You never mentioned him about being a shinobi.” Her grandma clicked her tongue. “Oh, so you DO listen. And yes, I did, it was the first thing I mentioned about him but knowing you, you’d probably tuned that part out because you were thinking of your imaginary boyfriend.” “He’s not imaginary, he’s just… it’s complicated.” “Right, complicated. Because the two of you are teammates or whatever. Point being, this man isn’t and he’s a catch.”
“And how do you know we can trust him?” I mean really, he could be anybody. Sakura knew her grandparents well enough to know they can never turn away someone in need, but what if he was taking advantage of their kindness. Then again… they certainly wouldn’t make that much of an effort to protect the small village from a bunch of bandits. As much as Sakura tried to convince herself that this wasn’t Sasuke, the more she thought back about what her grandparents had said the past few days the more suspicious she got.
“You certainly take after your mother, just because I’m old doesn’t make me an idiot. I’m not saying he’s innocent, far from it. The poor boy looks like he’s been through hell and back but once you get to my age you just know these things. That boy, despite how he may appear he has such kind eyes.” Kind eyes? Well, that certainly wasn’t another give away. “Even when we first took him in with his friends, he looked like a little lost puppy. Anyway, you’ll know what I mean, your grandpa is bringing him here to meet you. So, hurry up and freshen up, they’ll be here soon.” Sakura had almost choked on her lunch. “He’s WHAT?!” How and why? “Oh, he came this morning a few hours after you left, we mentioned you were in town and didn’t want him to leave without meeting you.” Of course they didn’t, how embarrassing.
“He insisted that he had someone else waiting for him back home, but once we mentioned you were also a kunoichi who was Lady Tsunade’s pupil he was keen on meeting you.” Her heart skipped a beat, this was too many coincidences. Surely it couldn’t be…
“Can you at least tell me his name?” And as if on cue, her grandpa had knocked on the door inviting themselves in. “Ah, there she is. See? We told you she’s quite a catch. A doctor and a strong kunoichi. You would be a fool not to date her.”
Sakura immediately stood up face red as she came across a pair of familiar eyes. “Sa-Sasuke-Kun?” “Sakura.” He wasn’t even taken aback, almost expecting her. Well, how many kunoichi are there his age who was Tsunade’s pupil. He would know by now.
“Oh, you two already met?” Her grandma was quite please, not bothered hiding her grin with her little matchmaking. “What did I tell you dear, another generation romance for the Harunos but really you couldn’t wait a few more minutes. She absolutely reeks, what kind of romantic first date will that be?” Urgh, she’ll never hear the end of this.

Pink, sunset light beams through the skylights as a nimble form rounds the corner. Her hair is pink. It’s not just the light.  Sasuke has never been good at naming the emotions taking residence in his body. But now, it comes easily. Something like cool forest shade on a hot day, like a hand held up over his eyes to block out the sun. Relief. ₊ ˚. Sasuke returns to Konoha. By change, he and Sakura are neighbors. They aren't quite friends anymore.
