hiiiiiii what is *your* favorite fob album? you got me thinking and now i'm curious <3
It is, unsurprisingly, Save Rock and Roll! It has been my favorite album since I was 13 years old and it's just such a comfort album. I absolutely LOVE its the vibe, theme, aesthetic and era. It's such a good comeback album as well. The Young Blood Chronicles is such an insane music video series and probably my favorite music videos ever made.
My favorite pre-hiatus album is probably Folie or Cork Tree, it depends on my mood I think. Tho it has been a while since I ranked all of Fall Out Boy's albums so maybe I should do that again.

my top albums of 2013.. as i'd have picked them in 2013
with 2013 somehow being 10 years ago now and these albums all celebrating their 10th anniversaries this year, i had the idea that it'd be fun to pick out my fav albums from 2013, but as i'd have picked them in 2013 😳
some of these i wouldn't include anymore if i was making a list of my fav albums from 2013 now, cos i've discovered better music from 2013 since.. but these are the 9 albums that 17 year old me would have picked as the albums that defined her 2013 😆
the picks:
alunageorge - body music
arctic monkeys - am
ariana grande - yours truly
fall out boy - save rock and roll
haim - days are gone
lorde - pure heroine
panic! at the disco - too weird to live, too rare to die
paramore - paramore
the 1975 - the 1975
3 honourable mentions:
best coast - fade away
lady gaga - artpop
vampire weekend - modern vampires of the city
(fun fact: so many albums from 2013 had black and white covers, bcos i guess it was the style at the time, that i nearly considered doing 2 separate posts, including 1 just for black and white album covers 🫣)

I am going to analyze and describe to you guys every All Time Low’s records because I love ranting about the aesthetics and stuff.
I’m just gonna put TTWtRiDwtE and The Party Scene together because I don’t listen to them THAT much, I still love them though. I’m gonna say that they have massive high school vibes and idk I just love the vibes AND THE LYRICS. I fucking love the lyrics of every single song on these records. words cannot explain.
My favs are probably Break Out! Break Out! and the hustler one
Fav lyrics: “The memories of broken dreams We were so tired yet so alive”
It’s So Wrong It’s Right turn. On this record I have to say that even though I don’t like every every song on it, I love the instrumental parts SO much; I think that the guitars, the bass and the drum parts are legitimately amazing. Nothing more to say.
I really love let it roll and stay awake.
Fav lyric: all six feet under the ground.
Nothing Personal. My fucking record. I love every song on this record with every single body cells that I have. The lyrics are really teenager-ish but I think that goes along well with the whole concept and vibe of the record
HELLO BROKLYN NUMBER 1 STAN HERE. Also Lost In Stereo is my fav atl song so.
Fav lyric: “I’m a walking travesty but I’m smiling at everything”
We have been waiting for this one. Dirty Work. At first I didn’t like this album because the songs just didn’t catch my attention but when I listened to it again carefully…this one goes hard. it really does. the lyrics are amazing and I like all the sassy-ness in this record SO much.
I can’t pick a fav one, I legitimately love them all
Fav lyric: “We're throwing stones though we live in glass houses”
Don’t Panic is my brother, my pal, my mate, my friend and my lover. I love this record from head to toes. I really love everything about this album, from the amazing lyrics to the instrumental parts to just the vibes in general.
I CANT PICK A FAV ONE FUUUUCK
AGAIN I love every every song. Every lyric is just.
THE RECORD. Future Hearts. This one is number one on the top for the lyrics. Heartwarming, comforting yet harsh and raw in some way. I link this album with the feeling of wanting to let go of the things that make you feel bad. with the feeling of searching for a safe place to be where you can rest for a while. I used to listen to this record biblically everyday because I was in so much pain and just listening to it made me feel better.
Satellite, old scars/future hearts and the kids in the dark stan here!
Fav lyric: all the kids in the dark
I am so fond of Last Young Renegade. The whole concept behind the record is amazing, the lyrics are incredible and deep and the movies are just *chef’s kiss* the peaks of the vibes. I fucking love the whole aesthetic: jeans jackets, late night car rides, neon signs and lights, rock and loud music… man I really based my personality on this freakin record and I do not regret it. At all. This is my fav record and probably this thing will never change. It bring me so much comfort I can’t explain it.
Can’t pick a fav one here.
Love every lyric equally
MY BABY Wake Up, Sunshine. I discovered the boys through WUS so it has a very special place in my heart. This record is the definition of comfort, safety, summer and love. In a bad mood? Listen to WUS. In a good mood? Listen to WUS. It’s a REMEDY. This record saved me so many times. The vibes are immaculate and the whole aesthetic brings joy and happiness.
Glitter and Crimson and Pretty Venom stan in the house tonight.
Fav lyric: “It’s gonna be alright if you just stop thinking it over”
Tell Me I’m Alive. It’s the first record that I see the release of so it holds just for this a special place in my heart. Like I said previously, It’s the child of LYR and WUS and that. +1000 points to the gryffindor. The whole aesthetic of drugs and love and fucking and being heartbroken yet in love it’s SO addicting
I still have to pick my fav but kill my vibe and are you there? are amazing
Idk again the lyrics have all really good meaning I just can’t pick one.

hi malloy i want to listen to more fob do you have any song recommendations?
hellow vic! gosh how do i recommend fob to someone when the discography is so large and varied... hmmmmmm
ok i’ll separate by album so you can like choose what you wanna listen to depending on your style, with one gateway song that i think is a good intro to it and a personal fav
under the cut because i got carried away (like seriously i ended up writing a paragraph for each album 💀) but there are eight albums so sixteen recs for you👍
malloy’s crash course in fob albums + what to listen to first
take this to your grave — their first official album, a pop punk staple, extremely pop punk very clearly showing their hardcore roots:
gateway song: grand theft autumn/where is your boy (teehee its my url song but also i believe every person dipping their toes into the scene needs to listen to this song. it’s that iconic)
a fav that u should also listen to: saturday (this song means a lot to the band! they close every single show with it! and also it goes off!!)
from under the cork tree — the breakthrough album, the album with sugar we’re goin down and dance dance, another pop punk staple but now with slightly more pop friendly elements:
gateway song: a little less sixteen candles a little more “touch me” (another hit single and also just. a bop. an absolute bop)
a fav that u should also listen to: the music or the misery (this one isnt even on the actual album it’s technically an additional track from a deluxe edition. however i think it’s going to be in my spotify top 5 this year. the hook goes SO hard)
infinity on high — probably the most popular among fans? ive already said this album is insane it had such a perfect mix of their pop punk sound with stuff like soul, r&b, horns and violins… fucking insane. this is the one with bang the doldrums:
gateway song: i’m like a lawyer with the way i’m always trying to get you off (mmm i feel like i can eat this song it’s so comfy and easy to get into)
a fav that u should also listen to: i’ve got all this ringing in my ears and none on my fingers (OUGH. the orchestrations.. the piano!! the horns!!! patrick’s ba ba ba ba ba ba ba da da during the bridge. a banger.)
folie à deux — this one goes hard. it was a very different album so there were a lot of people who hated it when it first came out but now it’s commonly agreed that it’s one of their best!! folie is like ioh with the experimentation turned up even more with lyrical focus on criticizing the media and celebrity culture among other things and it is cool ✨:
gateway song: she’s my winona (catchy as hell, i’ve always thought it was the best track to introduce someone to folie)
a fav that u should also listen to: america’s suitehearts (my fob tag (#you don’t don’t know you’re a legend) is lyrics from this song. it is. really fun to sing to and the music video is wonderfully trippy)
save rock and roll — first post-hiatus album! these next three are very different from the previous albums, way more pop than pop punk. srar itself is what i can only describe as an album that sounds so 2013 radio pop rock sometimes feel like i’ve regressed 10 years and the next song i’m going to listen to is counting stars by onerepublic. this is the album with my songs know what you did in the dark. album still slaps tho. fun fact they made a movie out of it which has elton john:
gateway song: alone together (top tier example of a 2013 pop song tbh. pop done wonderfully. wowzaz)
a fav that u should also listen to: where did the party go? (the bass… the synth… the delivery of the lyrics… this was the song that convinced me to relisten to save rock and roll and really get into it)
american beauty/american psycho — people call this one sports commercial/stadium rock music and honestly yeah. yeah. this one had not only centuries but immortals from the big hero six movie. i’m like split down the middle on this album because half i simply cannot care about but the other half goes really hard fav after fav so:
gateway song: fourth of july (*cackling* (this is the other song people heavily associate with mikey way) but seriously this one can wreck you)
a fav that u should also listen to: the kids aren’t alright (this one will wreck you. genuinely? lyrics of all time.)
mania — my fav ✨😌 though polarizing among fans because this album is the furthest from pop punk theyve ever gone; it’s experimental pop rock/electropop. but i love it to pieces its clear themes of changing yourself for better or worse and looking back at how things used to be and knowing that you’ve survived and redemption through love drive me insane. ough:
gateway song: the last of the real ones (a single. it bops and its lyrics are wonderful. the piano is iconic)
a fav that u should also listen to: sunshine riptide (SONG OF ALL TIME!!! idk if it’s still my fav but damn i love it so much. beach vibes. a summer song. banger hook. vocals that make me feral.)
so much (for) stardust — THE RETURN ALBUM! came out in march :D “a return to their roots” everyone says, mirroring folie in its rock/pop punk sounding base with funk, soul and even disco influences? insane. absolutely insane:
gateway song: hold me like a grudge (the funky bass is enough for me to die happy tbh this is such a silly bop. yeag this was the song with the lyric fanfic writers were clamouring over (“part time soulmate, full time problem”))
a fav that u should also listen to: what a time to be alive (they made a fucking earth wind and fire song about the fucking pandemic and it is kinda their best song ever)

omg whats your fav fall out boy album(s)?? i'm excited for their new one esp cause mania was... not really my favorite....... but the singles they've dropped so far sound promising😙
sorry i had to ask after your last post talking about them cause i love them too lmao
NOOO AHHHHH IM SO GLAD U ASKED😈l
bro it is so hard to pick a fav out of their first 4 albums. however i love EVERYTHING off folie a deux. every single track. every lyric. especially west coast smoker… 27… disloyal order of water buffalo… 20$ nosebleed -
has to be folie a deux for all time fav album by them
from under the cork tree was a huge part of my adolescence too. FUCKING infinity on high with bang the doldrums and mmrs.
i was like. 13 when they came out with save rock and roll and it was rly good but still not nearly as idk. like with their early stuff before they went on hiatus, that shit was like lightning striking. it prob couldn’t ever be as good.
(also kinda unrelated but idk who to tell about this. mcr came out with danger days in 2011. one of the biggest rock bands right? and RIGHT AFTER that notice the multiple bands that came out with concept albums with the whole “defy authority” “post-apocalypse” type concept. black veil brides. crown the empire. ofc fall out boy. others i’m forgetting. but yeah)
and like i said, around the time american beauty american psycho came out i kindaaaa lost interest. it’s not bad for a band to change its sound - it’s natural - but i didn’t like the direction they were going in. wasn’t my thing and also mania sucked. i heard young and menace when it came out as a single and i was packing up the first 4 albums in a suitcase and leaving💀
HOWEVER that single i was sent was magical. im excited too!! . made even better by the fact brendon urie fucked off from shitting all over patd’s legacy. ugh fuck that guy but that’s an essay for another post -

This might be a stupid ask but whatever. I'm attempting to get into fall out boy (I am incredibly late to the party, I'm aware), cause I know like 10 songs and I feel like I'd actually like more of their stuff if I bothered to listen, and I found a greatest hits cd in a thrift store the other day and went yep I'm gonna start to try and listen to their stuff I don't already know now. so uh song recommendations? or something? idk, I don't really know where to start (though I did watch the youngblood chronicles cause I'd heard about it before)
NOOOOT A STUPID ASK !!!!! OMG IM SO HAPPY YOU ASKED ME !!!! the first song i always recommend (beyond sugar we’re going down my fav song EVER) is alone together from save rock and roll!!! from research i’ve seen nobody has been able to not bop to it!!!! since you’re a sossie i’d also recommend starting with the save rock and roll album or the american beauty / american psycho album!!! ab/ap has TONS of lyrical parallels to self-titled/sgfg era songs, or alternatively you could start from the newest stuff and listen to love from the other side and the album, so much for stardust!!!! stardust and 5sos5 have lots of similar themes !!!!!

What is your favourite fob album if you have one? 😊
aaaah it's so difficult to just choose one! their whole discography is so good (except maybe mania which was a bit... interesting but there were still some bops)
their earlier stuff (tttyg and futct) i haven't listened to that much, i think they're cool but i didn't really vibe with them
the ones i enjoy most are definitely infinity on high (A MASTERPIECE) and american beauty/american psycho (which i'm also really fond of because of personal memories so i'm biased lmao). my fav songs from these two are the carpal tunnel of love and the kids aren't alright (honorable mentions: golden, the take over the breaks over, hum hallelujah, thanks for the memories, fourth of july, favorite record and irresistible)
however i do think folie à deux and save rock and roll are AMAZING and honestly i just can't choose they're all great i love fob so much
