#Repost @orcaactivistcanada @download.ins --- Fifteen days since Marineland closed down and Kiska is still in her tank, alone, and deprived of stimulation. She was captured in 1979, in Ingólfshöfði, Iceland. She was just three years old when she was sent to an aquarium in Iceland. She was there for less than a month, but she met Keiko while she was there. At the end of November 1979, she was moved to Marineland in Ontario. Kiska has had five calves, but none of them survived more than six and a bit years (her oldest calf was named Hudson, who lived from September 15th, 1998 - October 20th, 2004. Her last tankmate was Ikaika. He was transferred from SeaWorld Orlando in 2006 at age 4 on a breeding loan. Did they really think he would breed with a 30-year old orca while not even sexually mature himself? He was transferred to SeaWorld San Diego back in 2011, leaving Kiska alone for what now has been ten years. Kiska is showing signs of extreme distress. She’s been calling out for others, flicking her tail, and worst of all, bashing her head against the side of her tank. Hugo did this and it caused an aneurism that needed his life and left Toki alone. We need to get Kiska to @whalesanctuaryproject ASAP. It’s not long now until the nets go into the bay. We're so sad to hear of the passing of one of the two captive dolphins being held at Tehran Milad Dolphin Tower. Her name was Alpha and she performed silly and cruel tricks like these alongside her tankmate Casia. She is the one closest to the camera in this video.⁠ Tehran's Bureau of Environmental Protection visited the facility and reportedly found Alpha dead in the pool, learned of the recent deaths of two sea lions, and that the dolphinarium has no veterinarian. Local news is reporting that the bureau suspended the facility but tickets are still being sold! Okay! So, I’ve only just realised that I never did an intro post! So here it is! My name is Olivia but basically everyone calls me Liv! I’m 17 (18 this Monday! 😱) and am from Manchester, in the UK 🇬🇧! 💙🐬I first got interested in dolphins in around 2014 after swimming with dolphins at Zoomarine Portugal. After that I ended up going to SeaWorld in 2015 and could tell that something was wrong- the staff didn’t really know anything about the animals! After not getting any questions answered, I ended up researching dolphins and then came across @dolphin_project and @seashepherduk 💙💙Since then, I’ve tried to help spread the awareness about Taiji and ending the dolphin captivity industry! I can’t express how guilty I feel for swimming with dolphins but am really trying to help end dolphin captivity! I have shared as many posts as possible on social media and have been able to stop family and friends from going to visit Dolphin shows! As I’m turning 18 soon, I am hoping to do some volunteering with either #dolphinproject or #seashepherd in the near future! 💙💙🐬💙 As my passion for the ocean grew 🌊, I became more and more interested in ocean pollution! I love helping with beach cleans with @mcs_uk 🏖 and have been trying to cut down my single use plastic! 👩🏼‍🎓I’m planning on going to university next year to study Marine Biology with Oceanography! 👩🏼‍🎓🎼 I also play the flute and did my grade 7 last summer!🌞 🎼I play in my colleges orchestra and even visited Germany with them over the summer! I have my PADI Open Water and Dry Suit qualifications and love to dive! 🌊I’ve got the AMAZING opportunity to visiting Indonesia with @operation_wallacea next summer and will be diving in the Coral Triangle! Five years after this suit was filed a US Court of Appeals has reversed the lower court's dismissal and kicked the case back down to a Florida court to reconsider! The park keeps Lolita in a tank so small that it fails to meet even the plain language of the minimum legal size requirement of the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA). It also offers the orca no meaningful protection from the burning sun and confines her with incompatible animals, both additional apparent violations of the AWA. Now, the plaintiffs will return to the district court to argue that the USDA unlawfully licensed Palace Entertainment when it purchased the park in 2014 and that Lolita cannot remain in these conditions if it wishes to continue exhibiting any animals to the public. Exhibitors’ licenses do not automatically transfer upon a change of ownership, and the USDA may only issue them to facilities that demonstrate compliance with the AWA, which the Miami Seaquarium does not. “The Miami Seaquarium’s owner should never have been licensed to imprison an ocean-going orca in a cramped concrete pit in the first place, and the USDA should never have repeatedly signed off on her continued deprivation,” says PETA Foundation Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Animal Law Jared Goodman. “PETA looks forward to returning to court and fighting for an end to Lolita’s five decades of misery.” If successful, the lawsuit, first filed in 2016, could help pave the way for Lolita to be retired from performing and transferred to a seaside sanctuary in her home waters off Washington’s San Juan Islands, where she could interact with her family pod, from whom she was taken more than 50 years ago.
