Does phil just not have any lines in this game? Could they not be bothered to hire a devito soundalike?

The recap movies were pretty good. A nice summary, almost made the story seem somewhat sensible.

I guess now we're going to olympus for some training.

All of team light bar Sora & Riku just instantly jobbed to a heartless tornado.

After monstropolis sora learns there are three people inside him, but there's hope of getting them out (#justiceforxion). Then we get a flashback to when aqua disappeared. Surprising no one, some number of ansems were involved.

After that we spend some time playing minigames with pooh bear.

With a lot of side business out of the way, I guess it's time to head to frozen land.

There's a lot of exposition going on about previous nonse.. wait, we're making a digi-roxas?

Also there's no way I'm going to be able to keep all the org people names straight. I couldnt remember them all when they only had one name each.

This bit where you play as Riku is pretty cool. I didn't actually expect that.

Tutorial boss was cool as hell.

Before the heartless tornado, there was a brief meeting with the core leadership of new org, including old man xehanort, and, I mean, I knew Leonard Nimoy would be irreplaceable, but dear lord does the new voice actory fall *achingly* short of the mark. It's downright tragic.

After that (still before tornado) there was a giant fight with a bazillion heartless & nobodies that actually made the attraction attacks ferl cool for once. Prior to thid they always felt kind of excessive.

We go to get Ventus, and Vanitas shows up for a cool fight where you get to play as Aqua. Then Sora gets his 'power of waking' and brings back Ven.

So now I guess we have out seven light keyblade wielders - Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Axel, Aqua, & Ventus. Good enough I guess. Still would rather Roxas & Xion were here.

Ven & Aqua get a nice moment, so that's nice.

Maleficent & Pete are still looking for the box.

Lotta cut scenes happening. Axel's being sad on tge bell tower. Saix came to visit. Apparently they were friends to some missing girl, a text subject in Ansem & Ansem's experiments? I don't remember that.

Lotta cut scenes & exposition. Not even done yet. Riku & Repliku are hanging out. Not sure if Repliku's actually here or just, like, present in Riku's heart or whatever. Looks like the latter, Sora & Kairi can't see him. Aw, they're sharing the star fruit.

It's a nice enough moment, but Kairi still jasn't really had the screen time needed to establish her as a character.

Port Royal down. Narratively, yeah, kind of weak, bit again gameplay wise it's probably my favorite so far. It even ends with a boss fight against Davey Jones instead of a randim giant monster.

Afterwords we get another short bit with Kairi and Axel. Not as good as the first one, characterization eise, and even if it had been, another scene of the two of them just sitting around feels kind of redundant. I would have preferred some actual training or sparring or something. Still, nice to check in on them.

Riku and Mickey are still looking for Aqua, on the same beach as always, fighting the same cloud of heartless as always.

Meanwhile Handsom Ansem (formerly Xehanort's heartless) has taken Grandpa Ansem (formerly Beltbuckle Ansem, formerly Ansem-the-could-have-been-a-bit-wiser-honestly) to traverse town. Lots of stuff going on. Hopefully that means we're closing in on the end.

Frozen world, as I had been led to believe, starts off pretty weak. As with tangled, we're borrowing plot & scenes direct from the film without any context, which doesn't leave any meaningful place for the KH characters, whether Sora's crew or the antagonists.

Like, they lift the entire 'let it go' song, and, as cool as the song and visuals were, that scene didnt work or make any sense in the original film to begin with. Adding Sora, Donald, & Goofy just awkwardly standing off to the side listening to Elsa sing to herself just absolutely doesnt help.

And then there's the bit where Sora & crew flee from an avalanch via a sledding mini-game where they avoid monsters, then a different sledding minigame where you try to pick up money orbs. Then, having escaped from the avalanch you fight the monsters you were avoiding earlier. Then after beating the monsters it turns out they aren't beat anyway, and they cause an entire second avalanch, and sora & co. Get caught in that avalanch and carried to the next bit, which makes everything that happened between the first and second avalanch just a bunch of filler, spinning wheels & going nowhere, and for all the monsters were kind of cool, it still felt like a waste of time.

I'm not done here, there's time for this world to turn things around, but I'm not expecting anything, and am mostly just biding my time till the next Pixar stage.

Finished the monsters inc world. The pattern of Pixar worlds being better overall than disney worlds continues, even if I don't think this one was quite as good as toy story. It was good to see vanitas again, and amusing that Sully just stuffed him in a door.
