KINSHIP 4
Time: D-Day + 74 Hours Location: KINSHIP Forward Operating Base Forces On Station: CFRI, Silver Wing, Barghest Company Forces En Route: CFRI Delta Lances [Error: Redirected] Objective: Engage enemy Jericho-class superheavy drone on approach.
After-Action Report:
Barghest Company Godkiller Star Engaged Superheavy Jericho Drone in combat. Initial speculation that the drone would be unable to target captured Celestial series Omni-mechs was correct, allowing Lt. Colonel Anya Corwin, Major Victoria Everheart, Major Bill Weaver, Major Kei Franklin and Major Elenor Von Strauss to inflict noticeable damage onto the drone during the initial stages of the engagement, knocking out the weapons on two legs and damaging the armor and main gun housing. The drone’s inability to target Godkiller did not extend for the duration of the engagement, resulting in Godkiller Star taking heavy fire from the drone and being forced into cover, sustaining major damage to all ‘mechs before they could get into cover. All mechs mobile and operational, however Major Elenor’s ‘mech sustained noticeably more damage due to its light weight compared to the rest of the star. CFRI Recon Elements moved to assist and sustained heavy losses (See CFRI Report below). The drone’s preoccupation and engagement with 1-Beta and 2-Alpha, as well as the small gap in the fire arcs provided by the damage sustained to the two legs, allowed Major Elenor Von Strauss to close with her heavily damaged Preta, and despite her mech being largely torn apart by the remaining weapons, throw her ‘mech beneath the Drone’s main body. A Long Tom artillery strike was called in from SLDF Regimental Artillery Battalion - “Caber” outside of Coen City by Major Elenor, resulting in heavy damage to the Drone’s capital-class XL(SCL), disabling the weapon, and inflicting general damage to the armor of the machine. Major Elenor was unable to escape the area and has been confirmed KIA. During the bombardment, remaining elements of Godkiller were able to pull back to Kinship FOB for rearmament and repair. Jericho Drone estimated at 80 - 75% offensive effectiveness remaining, and estimated 75% defensive effectiveness.
Barghest Company Comms log:
Godkiller 4: SLDF RAB Caber, this is…Godkiller 4, requesting immediate…artillery strike, my location…*sounds of wet coughing*
SLDF RAB Caber: This is Caber, Godkiller 4, we read you, designate target. We’re getting ECM interference your position.
Godkiller 4: …Godkiller 4 to…Caber…sending now…lock onto reactor signature for GM 270 Light Fusion engine…*sounds of wet coughing*...recommend…full barrage.
SLDF RAB Caber: Roger that, Godkiller 4, dropping the hammer. Suggest immediate evac of area surrounding designated target.
Godkiller 4: …negative…*coughing continues* unable to evac…can’t move my legs…and will bleed out before I get picked up…
SLDF RAB Caber: …Roger Godkiller 4…godspeed.
Further examination of comms chatter within Godkiller revealed that Major Elenor had suffered terminal injuries from shrapnel within her mech’s cockpit, including a severed spine, punctured lung, and significant lacerations. Major Elenor Von Strauss has been recommended for posthumous award of SLDF Medal of Honor.
Barghest Company Kinship FOB forces move forward to engage the remaining 14 Word escort ‘mechs, supported by elements of SWMC repaired after engagement with lead Word elements. Barghest Company mechs formed a V formation, with assaults and superheavy T-Rex taking point, followed by heavies, forcing the Word elements to choose between facing the oncoming mechs or braving the mined streets and pathways. Medium and Light ‘mechs held in reserve for repair and serve as a possible QRF in the event of flanking maneuvers through minefield. Engagement soon becomes a point blank brawl. Barghest Company mechs disable or kill nine enemy mechs, including both Omegas. Major Roberta is credited with the destruction of one Omega, and an Archangel, sustaining armor damage and an expenditure of all RAC10 ammo. Commander Owen McEvedy is credited with three kills, a Deva, Grigori, and Archangel. No damage sustained. Two Seraphs and the remaining Omega were taken out via combined efforts of Lt. Ann, Lt. Smith, Lt. Delila, Lt. Pam, Lt. Clara and Captain Bastian, with Lt. Delila scoring a cockpit shot on the Omega. All mechs involved are damaged, but not severely. Colonel Bell and Major Bridget Hazen killed another Seraph through focused fire as directed by Colonel Bell. Minor damage sustained to both Shrike and Mad Cat Mk II. Remaining Preta that was not present during forward element engagement crippled by anti-mech mines as it attempted to flee, pilot captured by CFRI infantry.
Silver Wing Lances Alpha and Bravo departed Kinship following repair and rearm to assist Barghest Company forces that had also been stationed onsite. Both lances engaged additional elements of the drone escorts. In an extended firefight, four heavy enemy ‘mechs were outright destroyed, seemingly unwilling to retreat. Downed ‘mechs included a Mortis, a Crusader, a Falconer, and a White Flame. Two SWMC ‘mechs were downed during the fight. Bravo 2 suffered a loss of its gyro, causing the pilot to eject. Chute was spotted, but the pilot was not located. Alpha 1 received a blow to the head, causing the loss of contact with the pilot. The ‘mech then collapsed. No ejection spotted, pilot not recovered. Alpha 2 lost all weapons, but remains operational. Combat effective ‘mechs remained on station to further assist in the defense.
CFRI Recon Elements engaged the enemy superheavy in support of Barghest Company Godkiller Star once they began to take heavy fire from Jericho Drone. Due to the lack of targeting interference afforded to the repurposed Celestial-series BattleMechs fielded by the Godkiller Star, losses were immediate on contact. In order of occurrence: 1-Beta-1: (Thorn) On initial approach, the ‘Mech suffered catastrophic damage to its left side torso from pinpoint-accurate sustained Class-2 Ultra Autocannon fire at maximum engagement range, resulting in core destruction. Pilot ejected, but was killed mid-air by LRM fire. ‘Mech abandoned, classed non-repairable.
1-Beta-2, 1-Beta-3, 1-Beta-4: (Wasp, Stinger, Locust)1-Beta-4 was directly hit by the Jericho’s Naval-class primary weapon (XLSCL) and destroyed. The overwhelming and immediate energy input caused a catastrophic failure of the fusion bottle in the Locust’s extralight 160-rating engine, resulting in a chained fusion detonation. The explosion vaporized the ‘Mech and damaged the Stinger and Wasp beyond all hope of repair. Their pilots did not survive the radiation and heat of the explosion.
2-Alpha-2: (Mongoose)
The second-wave approach by 2-Alpha was both slower and more cautious after the complete destruction of 1-Beta. As a result, 2-Alpha-2 was struck by enemy Class-10 cluster autocannon fire, disabling its left arm, but was already in partial cover and able to remain operationally effective. The destructive power and nature of the Jericho cannot be overstated, and sustained supporting fire by the surviving recon lance was able to account for, at absolute maximum estimate, minor armor damage. Advisory from 2-Alpha Lance Command urges extreme caution, noting the inhuman speed and reaction time of the drone, as well as its ability to focus clusters of weapons independently on separate targets, making fast-moving wolfpack tactics extremely risky, if not completely ineffective. Note for later record, award posthumous commendations.  @lt-chari @msn-04iinightingale @combined-arms-merc-groups @is-the-battlemech-cool-or-not

'...Oppenheimer is the one to beat here. It has the most nominations with 13, which means the most overall support in an Academy where everyone now gets to vote on all 23 categories rather than just their branch and for Best Picture, which is the case in the nominations round. It also has gravitas: an important historical subject that also resonates in frightening ways for these times. Plus it made nearly a billion dollars worldwide, unheard of for a summer release of a three-hour adult drama that’s partially in black and white. There is also the Christopher Nolan factor, which is hard to deny—he‘s overdue. It has also swept key precursor awards at Golden Globes, Critics Choice, BAFTA, DGA, PGA, SAG and many crafts guilds making it an overwhelming front runner, probably in line to win 8 Oscars by my predictions...
Cillian Murphy took the Drama Actor Golden Globe, BAFTA, and SAG award for his performance in Oppenheimer, and it might be hard to deny this respected veteran on what — shockingly — is his first nomination. Then again, there’s Paul Giamatti, widely felt to have been robbed of even a nomination 20 years ago for Alexander Payne’s Sideways. Only having been in the race just once (for Supporting Actor in Cinderella Man), he also won a Golden Globe in the comedy category and then went on to beat Murphy in the often-predictive Critics Choice Awards...But momentum as voting took place was clearly Murphy’s...
It’s likely this is Globes, Critics Choice, SAG, and BAFTA winner Robert Downey Jr.’s to lose, especially since his speeches on the circuit following those many precursor wins have been completely winning themselves. It doesn’t hurt that he’s in Oppenheimer, the film likely to be hearing its name called many times on Oscar night. Downey, though, also has the personal story, the remarkable career survival against all odds, and he’s a genuinely nice guy whose time has come...
Blunt, criminally overlooked in the past and now with her first nomination can be helped by the huge haul for Oppenheimer...
...a lock for the ridiculously overdue Christopher Nolan, who did everything voters love with Oppenheimer. He took a big risk and proved to supporters and doubters that he is a true master of the form. He was outrageously overlooked for The Dark Knight in 2009, which prompted the Academy to double the number of Best Picture nominees the next year (presumably in a bid to avoid a repeat of that embarrassment). And though his films have won crafts awards, this is his time. Quite frankly, if he were to lose, it would be a shock...The consensus, though, is DGA, BAFTA, Globes, and Critics Choice winner Nolan...
...cinematography often goes to the Best Picture winner, though not always. Still, Van Hoytema’s Oppenheimer was stunning and took the ASC award last weekend. After losing on his first nomination for Nolan’s Dunkirk, this could be his year...
...it seems like a no-brainer for ACE Eddie and BAFTA winner Oppenheimer. Thelma Schoonmaker is always formidable, but some may wrongly think the three-and-a-half hour running time of Killers of the Flower Moon means it needed more editing. No — length isn’t a drawback in looking at the best edited films, and both of the above three hour-ish movies are prime candidates for truly the best...
...It is between sentiment and a legacy score for the late Robbie Robertson’s Killers of the Flower Moon, and Black Panther Oscar winner Ludwig Goransson’s stunning, Grammy, BAFTA, and SCL-winning Oppenheimer...
Oppenheimer probably takes this one...If Oppenheimer does win, it would mean the second Oscar for 22-time nominee, Kevin O’Connell, once known as the Susan Lucci of the Oscars...'

Noah Kahan and Olivia Rodrigo Announce RSD 7″
Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan are teaming up for a special Record Store Day release. Details below. Fbruary 22, 2024 – Santa Monica, CA – Multi-Platinum singer-songwriters Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan team up on a special live recording that will be available at participating independent record stores as part of the celebration of Record Store Day. Olivia Rodrigo “Stick Season”/Noah Kahan “Lacy” - FROM THE BBC RADIO 1 LIVE LOUNGE will be released on April 20 via Geffen/Mercury/Republic.   The 7-inch colored vinyl features three-time GRAMMY® Award winner Rodrigo covering Kahan’s breakout hit “Stick Season” on Side A and GRAMMY® Best New Artist nominee Kahan delivering a stunning rendition of “Lacy” from Rodrigo’s chart-topping sophomore album, GUTS, on Side B. “Stick Season,” the lead single from Kahan’s 2022 album of the same name, has been certified 2x Platinum in the U.S. “Lacy” was named as one of the best songs of 2023 by Variety, which noted, “Rodrigo makes poetry out of insecurity like nobody’s business.” More information and participating stores at recordstoreday.com. ABOUT OLIVIA RODRIGO:   Hailed by The New York Times as “a songwriter of rather astonishing purity,” Olivia Rodrigo took up piano at age seven and began crafting her own lyrics at 12. On her record-breaking, culture-defining debut album SOUR, she offered up a wildly resonant account of her very first heartbreak. Featuring her 5x Platinum breakthrough single “drivers license,” SOURmade history as the longest-running debut album on the Billboard 200 top 10 this century, landed at No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s 50 Best Albums of 2021 list, and earned Rodrigo three GRAMMY® awards.   At 20, she released her highly anticipated second album GUTS – a body of work that magnified the raw power of her genre-bending sound while delving deeper into her vast and vivid inner world. Recorded with SOUR producer Daniel Nigro, GUTS was praised as an “instant classic” by Rolling Stone and a “masterpiece” by the Los Angeles Times. Lead single “vampire” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and returned to the top spot in September 2023 – coinciding with the No. 1 debut of GUTS on the Billboard 200 and Olivia on the Artist 100, thereby giving Rodrigo a chart triple. The album’s 11 other tracks all appeared in the top 40 of the Hot 100, making Rodrigo the first artist to chart all songs from two career-opening albums in the Hot 100’s top 40. GUTS topped the album charts in over 13 countries.   In late 2023, Olivia released “Can’t Catch Me Now” from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (Music From & Inspired By) which won the 2023 Hollywood Music In Media Award for SciFi/Fantasy Film and a SCL Award for “Outstanding Original Song For A Dramatic Or Documentary Visual Media Production.”    On Friday night, Rodrigo kicks off the North American leg of her sold-out GUTS tour in Palm Springs, CA at the Acrisure Arena. The tour continues Saturday night in Phoenix, AZ at Footprint Arena before making its way across North America, Europe, and UK, with stops in Miami, Toronto, New York, London, Manchester, Glasgow and more before wrapping in August with four massive shows in Los Angles at the Kia Forum. The Breeders, PinkPantheress, Chappell Roan, and Remi Wolf will join on select dates across the tour. See tour dates HERE. ABOUT NOAH KAHAN: Over the past year, GRAMMY®-nominated Vermont singer & songwriter Noah Kahan has exploded from his New England roots into the global mainstream and has been touted as one of this year’s biggest and best new artists. At the core of his music are vulnerable lyrics and an unfiltered yet relatable honesty, as the critically acclaimed artist pens songs straight from the heart and cracks jokes with his signature, self-deprecating sense of humor.    Across his three albums and an EP, Kahan has garnered global renown for his singular mix of Folk, Americana, and Rock, landing more than five billion streams, a Double Platinum Certification for his hit single “Stick… https://chorus.fm/news/noah-kahan-and-olivia-rodrigo-announce-rsd-7/

Pavel - Timeline/Schedule
Hey everyone! Just wanted to drop in and share our schedule and some notes from our meeting yesterday.
Link to schedule/timeline on google spreadsheets - Group 8 - Timeline (sharepoint.com)
Tumblr media
Let me know what you guys think and if you feel this works well. Here's a few ideas I have for us to begin with this week during PreProd and going into production. Pavel Thinking I could draw a few pieces of concept art for us to start with, since I'm here to study "MA Concept Art" after all haha. Here's the lineup I've got in mind: - A spaceship interior concept to give Alec a helping hand. - An environment concept showcasing the sci-fi farmland for Neel's vision. - And last but not least, an atmospheric city/skyline concept for Erik to dive into. Erik - Thinking you could gather any free assets to do with sky/atmosphere that may be useful from unreal marketplace as a starting point (if you think it's necessary). This one might be useful: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/sdtbda2lzcbtdjopt9eqg/h?rlkey=qgc3zl2z8vc9uoxs20e66jk1o&dl=0
- Next up, think it would be wise to explore different methods for creating our dreamy clouds – whether it's through VDB clouds, volumetrics, or using imageplanes with cloud textures. I'm sure there are some handy tutorials on YouTube that could guide us through these techniques. This might be useful to look at as well: 30 Day Free Trial - Award winning weather renderer | Simul trueSKY - Now, here's a puzzle for us: I'm wondering if you could investigate the possibility of having our cloud and sky layer gracefully deform into a circle, mimicking the city's shape. It sounds a bit tricky, but I'm hoping a bit of research will shed some light on the best approach.
- And on a slightly lower priority note, wouldn't it be cool if we could smoothly fly through the clouds without them awkwardly clipping through the interior of our vehicle? If there's a way to tackle that, it would be an awesome bonus. Alec - I'll hustle to get the concept for the interior ready asap, so you can jump right into crafting it. In the mean time, thinking you could explore some interior references for our vehicle to find what vibes with you? Or maybe take a shot at polishing your Modeling skills or give Substance Painter a spin for some creative experimentation for now. Neel - Thinking a good way to kick things off would be by checking out what assets we can find for free on the unreal marketplace that could be useful. If we find any gems, perhaps that would make things easier for us. - Some assets that might be useful could be some small sci-fi buildings in the distance, could have some barns in there too. See what you can think of?
- Try test and see if you could make some fields with grass and flowers, as well. Think this is a great reference for sci-fi farmland! UE4 - Field (youtube.com)
youtube
Edmund
- I was thinking it would be awesome if you could shape the narrative of our animation. Think a good way to do this would be creating a storyboard with a variety of shots that have great flow/pacing? For instance, we could decide on the ideal duration for the launch sequence and then figure out when the spaceship should start emerging from the clouds to reveal a city in the background. From there, we can determine the right timing for a massive building to appear, towering above the clouds and so on. - If you have any cool ideas for key-shots or memorable moments, feel free to include them in the storyboard!
- Once we have the narrative locked in, we can start exploring the sound and AI-voice elements.
- After, think you could dive into Premiere to see what's possible with your post-production magic. Are there any exciting effects you think we could incorporate, maybe during the spaceship's journey into the light or wormhole at the end? I'm open to your thoughts on any cool enhancements that could elevate the animation. Looking forward to working on this together!
