What is SCORM?
SCORM, which stands for "Sharable Content Object Reference Model," is a set of technical standards for e-learning and online training. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that e-learning content is compatible with various Learning Management Systems (LMS) and can be easily shared and reused across different platforms. SCORM defines how online learning content and LMSs should communicate with each other.
Here are the key aspects of SCORM:
1. Interoperability: SCORM enables e-learning content, often referred to as SCORM-compliant content, to be interoperable with different LMSs. This means that content created with SCORM standards can work seamlessly on various learning platforms, enhancing flexibility for both creators and learners.
2. Reusable Learning Objects: SCORM encourages the creation of learning content in small, reusable modules or "learning objects." These objects can be shared and repurposed in different courses and contexts, making content development more efficient.
3. Tracking and Reporting: SCORM specifies how data related to a learner's progress and interactions with the content should be tracked and reported to the LMS. This feature is critical for assessing learner performance and understanding which content is effective.
4. Content Packaging: SCORM defines the structure for packaging e-learning content. This ensures that content creators can bundle their materials in a standardized format, making it easier to share and distribute courses.
5. Sequencing and Navigation: SCORM also includes guidelines for controlling the sequence in which learners access content. It can dictate prerequisites for accessing certain modules or segments, allowing for structured learning paths.
6. Versioning: SCORM has evolved over the years, with different versions offering improved features and compatibility. Understanding the specific version of SCORM that a content package adheres to is important for ensuring it functions correctly within your LMS.
If you're interested in SCORM and how it can benefit your e-learning initiatives, you can explore more about it at Prodient.io. They may provide further insights and solutions related to SCORM output and e-learning content development.

Develop Courses with ease using Prodient.io Authoring Tool

Introduction
The onus of climate change actions lies with governments, organizations, and individuals. Various organizations have developed courses to perpetuate awareness about climate change crises and the actions needed. These courses have been created both for employees and the general public. You can create several climate change- and sustainability-related eLearning courses quickly and more frequently and share them in multiple ways. Letâs understand how the easy authoring tool, Prodient, helps you author insightful and impactful climate change courses. âThe climate crisis is the biggest threat to our survival as a species and is already threatening human rights around the world.â â AntĂłnio Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN
Ready to Use Templates
Prodient has 50 plus templates for content and questions to help create eLearning courses and assessments for various learning styles. These include visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic, covering the four types of learners as per the VARK model. An extensive palette of templates provides a wide variety of options for designing an eLearning course. This creates a space for the manifestation of the authorâs creative potential. Climate change is a huge spectrum and can cover broad topics such as: ⢠Energy systems ⢠Impact on health ⢠Sustainable finance ⢠Sustainable development ⢠Climate change policies ⢠Innovation and technology ⢠Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ⢠Green job skills There is a healthy mix of static and interactive templates. While the must-know information can be presented on static pages, the content can be elaborated through interactive carousels, accordions, hotspots, flips, and so on. The image-rich templates help to carry the message of climate change boldly and firmly. Image- and interactivity-rich question templates can be used to assess the learnerâs current understanding before presenting the new content. These can also be used for formative and summative assessments. These approaches are aligned with Gagneâs Nine Events of Learning. Comparison templates are ideal to explain the situations before and after climate change and/or climate change actions and initiatives. Use the videos strategically to drive the climate change message.
Who is the Author?
You and anyone. The ready-to-use templates require no coding. Therefore, anyone can create a course, be it a manager, team member, Subject Matter Expert (SME), Human Resources (HR), technical team, distributor, or just anyone.
Localization
Who are the learners? It could be policymakers, activists, academics, experts, employees, students, and so on, from across the world. Prodient is an easy authoring tool that has the inbuilt capacity to translate its courses in any language. In fact, Prodient eLearning courses can have any language as their base language.

The eLearning courses can also be published and shared as a link on an email, mobile device, website, among others without the learner having to log in. Thus it can expand the reach of courses to a wide spectrum of learners. âThe world must come together to confront climate change. There is little scientific dispute that if we do nothing, we will face more drought, famine, and mass displacement that will fuel more conflict for decades.â â Barack Obama, Former President of the USA

We will support your climate change literacy endeavors with the easy authoring tool, Prodient. It is synonymous with ease of course creation and ease of course delivery. Adobe Presenter 9 - Powerful New Features!
Adobe Presenter 9 just might be one of Adobe's best kept secrets. As a long time Adobe Presenter user it is really exciting to see the evolution of this product and watch as the feature set grows. Adobe Presenter 9 has to be one of the best releases and one that will enable subject matter experts, teachers, and instructional designers to develop full blown courses with audio, video and multimedia. For those of you who may not be familiar with Adobe Presenter, it is a plug-in to Microsoft PowerPoint on Windows, that adds a full set of new features to PowerPoint making it easy to create eLearning modules. For those of you who have been using PowerPoint for years, having access to Adobe Presenter 9 will afford you opportunity to quickly turn your presentations into full fledged eLearning assets that can be published to Adobe Connect, a Web server, or your Learning Management System. Adobe Presenter 9 ToolbarAs a subject matter expert, Adobe Presenter 9 lets me package my eLearning material in a very professional manner that is ready to be hosted on our college Learning Management System (Moodle). I will talk more about that a little later in this post. One of the new features to be added to Adobe Presenter 9 is Adobe Presenter Video Creator which opens up all kind of possibilities for creating high quality instructional videos from your desktop without the need to know a lot of about editing or videography. Being in the field of assistive technology, I want to applaud Adobe for making Adobe Presenter 9 a truly accessible tool for students with a range of visual, motor, hearing and learning disabilities. In fact, Adobe Presenter Video Creator lets you create Closed Captioning videos on the fly utilizing their proprietary speech to text engine when creating the video. Adobe Presenter 9 adds Section 508 compliance which is a welcome addition. Once you install Adobe Presenter 9 it is easy to get started on crafting your eLearning material. The workflow could not be any easier, open up you presentation in Microsoft PowerPoint and click on the Adobe Presenter tab which now open up a whole new world for features for creating your materials. Depending on my goals there are times when I will add an audio narration to the slides which can be done simply using my built-in microphone on my laptop. There is always the option to import audio and utilize an external microphone for better recording quality. When it is time to sync the audio to your text Adobe Presenter 9 provides you with an easy to use feature to accomplish this. To spice up my eLearning material, I will often include one or two of the built in interactions that can be found in Adobe Presenter 9. Sometimes I will add a Word Search or a Jigsaw Puzzle to engage and have my Interaction Typesstudents interact with the material in a fun way. Adobe Presenter 9 includes over 12 different types of interactions which you can add to your presentation. Having access now to both Characters and Scenes opens up the possibilities when using Adobe Presenter 9 to create scenario based eLearning materials. In fact of the newest features that is found in Adobe Presenter 9, is the Insert Scenario Interaction which lets you drop in a pre-set scenario whereby all of the characters and scenes with the associated paths have been programmed for you. This is ideal for doing what-if scenarios and gives your participants the option to test out what they have learned. At this Insert Scenariopoint in time the characters and scenes are slanted towards business and I have provided Adobe with my feedback that they need to include more characters and scenes that are relevant for K-12 and Higher Education. Despite the need for more relevant characters and scenes this is still a powerful tool to utilize as you put together your eLearning material. OK, so I added my slides, audio narration, some interactions and maybe even some video-now I would like to assess what my students have learned from the module. From my perspective as a Quiz Question Typesprofessor it is important for me know that my students are grasping the information and key concepts and what better way to do that than by adding a quiz to the material. Adobe Presenter 9 makes it easy to add a quiz and now includes 9 different types of questions that I can add to a quiz. One of the most asked for features, Drag & Drop was added to Adobe Presenter 9 which opens up all kinds of possibilities for assessing my students. While adding a quiz has always been a standard feature, I am particularly excited by the addition of the Collaboration feature and the Student Analytic Dashboard that was recently added to Adobe Presenter 9. With the Collaboration feature tuned on students can engage in an ongoing conversation about the material and learn from one another as they are interacting with the material. Adobe makes this feature easy to use and it doesn't require that you have a Learning Management System in place. Once this feature is turned on all users will see a question mark on the bottom of the learning module that they can click to view and ask questions. This is a great feature to get students more engaged and gives them the opportunity to learn from one another. One of the other benefits of Adobe Presenter 9 is that it supports Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) which makes it ideal of uploading to Moodle. Setting up the SCORM package is a cinch in Adobe Presenter 9 and when I am done I can upload it as a ZIP file to Moodle and my students can view the material and answer the quiz. Moodle handles the Adobe Presenter 9 SCORM files exceptionally well and will automatically report the students quiz scores to me. The feature that I am most excited about in this release of Adobe Presenter 9 is the Student Dashboard which takes Adobe Presenter 9 to a new realm for me as I deliver more content online to my students. Adobe has done a masterful job of providing me with a way to monitor my students progress as they work on a learning module. I just started back teaching and have put up my first Dashboardmodule to see how this feature would work and all I can say is wow- this truly gives me a snapshot of where my students are in the module and if any of them need some assistance. The Dashboard is extremely visual and I have found easy to use. The heat map of where my students are in the process of completing the module gives me a quick overview of their progress. At any time I can email or share their progress directly form the Dashboard. Adobe Presenter 9 also gives me the capability to set an Intervention date that alert me of students who are not progressing through the eLearning Module- this giving me the opportunity to intervene. Having access to the Dashboard is a tremendous feature and one that I know I will take advantage throughout the semester. Kudos to Adobe for building this feature in! When it comes time to publishing my course there are lots of options for output-you may want to consider uploading it to your Adobe Connect account, a web server, a LMS, or as a PDF that you can distribute. I have always been impressed with the options and the look and feel of the course when it is packaged within Adobe Presenter 9. Adobe Presenter 9 gives you complete control over how your published course will look and how users will navigate through the module. I for one like how Adobe Published Adobe Presenter 9 ModulePresenter 9 creates an index and the sidebar, but if you choose you can completely remove that and utilize your own system for navigating the module. Adobe Presenter 9 also makes it easier to attach accompanying documents to your learning module which are then easily accessible to the learner. Adobe Presenter 9 opens up all kind of new possibilities for teachers, instructors, and eLearning professionals that are looking for ways to utilize their legacy PowerPoint presentations. With a little seat time you will be up and running using the powerful features in Adobe Presenter 9 to publish your courses to the web or mobile devices (IOS and Android apps are available). Adobe has added a number of new features to the recent release of Adobe Presenter 9 which makes this application even more powerful without the steep learning curve. As I said in the beginning Adobe Presenter 9 may just be the best kept secret in Adobe's suite of software applications -but I have a sneaking suspicion that they know they have a real winner on their hands with this release, and I'm sure they will do all they can to get the word out going forward. If you would like to try Adobe Presenter 9- Adobe has a 30 day trial version that you can download from the web. Please look for another post soon on the Adobe Presenter Video Creator which opens up all kind of new possibilities.

Enterprise E-Learning: What is the Total Cost of Ownership?
âWe want to build our own e-learning. It should be customized for our business.â
This is a common approach. BUT! E-learning is new in India. Most Learning and Development (L&D) teams do not understand the enormous cost, effort and time required, to short term courses in finance.
âWe need to buy an LMS, and then get our e-learning on it. Weâre then ready to roll out e-learning across our organisation!â Sounds simple. But, like most things in life, thereâs an entire elephant hidden behind that assumption.
So, Iâm going to give you a quick overview, of what that elephant looks like. You can then make an informed decision, as to what youâre taking on.
First: the Learning Management System (LMS)
Often, this is an enterprise decision â online finance courses if youâre using SAP HRMS, you may add on the SAP LMS. But if youâre choosing a stand-alone, a quick word of advice: put down the MUST HAVE functionalities you need. Youâll find, most LMSs will give you these functionalities â play SCORM compliant courses, integrate with your ERP/HRM software, generate reports, etc. Do NOT be lured by the ânice to haveâ bells and whistles, into shelling out more. Simple, sturdy, easy to use and with good support.
Next: the E-learning
We will cover âhow to ensure a good e-learning courseâ, in a separate post â it needs that detail. Letâs understand here, whether to build or buy â and the implications of both choices.
Letâs look at the âWe will buildâ option. You start by spend cost and time, to evaluate and finalize a vendor.
Now, building GOOD e-learning takes time and is expensive. Assume INR 1-1.5 lakh per E-Learning Hour (ELH), and an output of 2-4 ELHs per month (your review speed, is the bottleneck).
So, if you want to launch with, say, 20-25 hours (a bare minimum) of ELHs, it can take a year. If youâve invested in an expensive LMS, and it is not being utilized, youâre stuck.
Important but often missed point #1:
E-learning development, will take a lot of YOUR time, as well. It needs a dedicated senior resource, who understands what is needed. So, factor in that cost and time. Most people just measure the vendor cost. But from an organisationâs POV, the cost of your time is a significant cost, too.
Important but often missed point #2:
E-learning needs updation. When it comes to any functional course, a change in even ONE screen can mean that the topic becomes obsolete â youâre imparting wrong learning.
So, factor in ~ 25-30% of the original development cost (including your time), as an annual updation cost. Else, be prepared to dump that expensive e-learning, after 3-4 years.
Updation can cost INR 40,000 per E-learning Hour. The alternative is to trash the courses.
Important but often missed point #3:
Functional skills are about 70-80% standard, across the industry. Otherwise, there wouldnât be an industry!
The functional skills Jet Airways pilots or cabin crew need are the same, as those from Indigo. HDFC Bank offers fundamentally the same products â deposits, loans, fee based products â that SBI does. It has to. The only thing thatâs different is small product & pricing variants; and internal processes.
So, it makes sense to build only that, which is specific to your organisation. If there are courses covering Industry wide products, processes, regulations, why go through all the cost and headache? It makes tremendous sense to buy, or license such courses.
Critical and 99.9% missed point #4:
Support staff cost. Youâll have factored in a team, to manage the LMS. Thatâs not what weâre talking about: you need a team, to support the learning. What kind of support?
1. Setting and ensuring a learning plan: Basis the course and online finance training, an optimal learning schedule is essential. E-learning is plagued by low completion rates. You need both processes and a team, to ensure that learners stick to learning schedules.
2. When you learn, you have queries. If you donât have a way to resolve them, you lose interest, get lost and drop off. You will need, at the least, single people who will [a] answer learner queries, via an FAQ repository and [b] reach out to internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), for sessions or answers, when [a] is insufficient. This needs a quick TAT, to avoid drop-offs.
