Like Me, My Mad Fat Diary).

A TV Moment: Lovesick - My Best Friend’s Girl (106)
Name: Phoebe
Dated: 5 years ago
Beginning/End: No idea how they found each other and got together. Their breakup was actually mutual, but Phoebe said all the words to turn thoughts into action.
Their story: Somebody told me, that Dylan had a best friend, that acted like a girlfriend that he had 5 years ago. Dylan is attracted to an array of women. This includes girls that have many, some would say too many, characteristics that resemble his best mate Luke. During pub quiz afternoon (?), he can tell something is off with Phoebe. Evie and Angus easily realize that she is a female version of Luke. Being weirded out by this idea, Dylan skips out in the middle of the quiz and tries to figure out how to break up with her. However, he can’t find the words to do it. Good thing Phoebe lets him down easy. She likes him, but can’t be in a relationship with him now, or ever again.
And Evie: Evie is dating Angus and is not loving it. She likes him because he is sweet and loyal, but so is a dog. Angus tells Evie that he got a job offer out of town and she was about ready to pack up his stuff and send him off. This makes Angus think that things aren’t going well, which it’s not that things aren’t going well, it’s that things aren’t going anywhere. Evie tells him that what they had was great and that he should follow his dream. Angus doesn’t catch the hint of the past tense. Instead, he follows his dreams of whisking Evie away for a surprise holiday. Sarcastic cheering. Evie tells Dylan about her trapped situation. They mutually decide that they shouldn’t date their friends.
And Luke: Luke and Phoebe get along swimmingly. They are the only ones who are engrossed in the pub quiz. Once Dylan, Evie, and Angus leave the pub, the last two members of “The winner of the quiz is” start to sense some mutual chemistry. Not surprising since they have been finishing each other’s brain thoughts all afternoon. They win the pub quiz and share a passionate, celebratory kiss. In the moment, Luke even tells Phoebe he loves her. Once they snap out of their victory, they realize what they have done and Luke feels guilty. They go back to the flat and don’t mention anything to Dylan before Phoebe breaks up with him. As she leaves, she and Luke share a look.
Present: Dylan sleeps with Abigail for the first time in 3 years. Over breakfast, Luke asks Dylan if he has heard anything from Phoebe. Dylan has had difficulties getting in touch, so Luke suggests that they go to her mother’s house. There they find out the grave news: Phoebe died six months ago. Luke admits to Dylan that Luke and Phoebe kissed the night she dumped him. Luke is pissed when Dylan doesn’t seem to care, especially since Luke didn’t date her because of Dylan. They have a brotherly brawl that is interrupted by Phoebe’s mother, bringing cookies. They both loved Phoebe. Because Luke missed his chance with Phoebe, he tells Dylan that Dylan needs to tell Evie his true feelings. Dylan and Evie meet for dinner later that evening. Evie asks Dylan to be her maid of honor since he is her best friend. Luke barges into the restaurant and tells Evie that Dylan is in love with her. Both Evie and Dylan are in shock, as they shed tears and look at each other from across the table. End of season 1.
Take Away: This ep gets me all in my feels every time. This time for a different reason. Usually, as I watch through season 1, this ep provides the final climactic moment between Evie and Dylan. Watching in chronological flashback order, a lot of this weight is put on Luke and his feelings. The break up with Jo really changed him. In this episode, we see him love again with Phoebe, but he can’t have her. Now, he can never have her because she is gone (and this isn’t sci-fi). Luke is right. Don’t leave things unsaid, because you may never get a chance to say it.

Count on the Brits. The #uk put out some fantastic content. The top photo is from #chewinggum didnt know what to expect from the first episode and man, the hilarity was on point. #lovesick no lie used to be called #scrotalrecall so the name change was overdue but much of the recall remains with good reason. Both on #netflix

A TV Moment: Lovesick - The Family That… Nope. Nevermind. (203)
Name: Amy
Dated: 6 years ago
Beginning/End: Amy and Dylan were both at a cafe and reached for the last Chelsea bun (like a cinnamon roll, Wikipedia tells me). They flirt and Dylan lets her have it. Amy stops by his table and gives him the other half. It’s on. The next morning, in Dylan’s gross, Luke and Evie free, apartment, Amy and Dylan make plans to see each other again before she leaves town. It ends because Amy doesn’t like him that much and nice guys aren’t her type.
Their story: After his night with Amy, Dylan goes over to Luke’s apartment to drive the van transporting Evie’s dead dad’s stuff to sell at the stalls. Guess who else is there? Amy! Why? Because, you know, she’s Evie’s little sister! AHHHH!!!! CRAZY AWKWARD! Amy is super casual talking about it, Evie doesn’t want to talk about it, Dylan makes every moment more awkward while trying to talk about it. Before the big reveal, Dylan even mentions that this new girl is like Evie, but better. They go to the stalls, and Dylan tries to be less awkward, but just ends up on the sidelines of quarreling sisters. Turns out, he’s just like their dad. Amy and Dylan talk, and she leaves without saying goodbye to Evie. Amy’s last request: be extra nice to Evie because she is having a difficult time. Evie was very close to their father.
And Evie: It is clear that she and Amy don’t have a great relationship and Evie is taking on a lot. She has to sell all of her dad’s stuff in order to pay for her rent. She thinks that her sister needs to grow up and isn’t being very helpful (which is true). She is obviously going through a lot between a guy she screwed 2 months ago screwing her sister, her dad dying, and having to sell his stuff. She keeps his jacket, though. After Amy leaves, Dylan makes good on his favor and tells Evie that they are going to be friends. Maybe not now, but he is going to be there for her whether she likes it or not. This was enough of a gesture for Evie to agree to let Dylan become their newly vacant, third flatmate.
And Luke: So… Luke had sex with Rebecca, the third flatmate, and she moved out. Instead of further worrying about paying rent, he suggests Dylan as a replacement. He and Angus are also the only ones actually selling stuff at the stalls. Angus is very familiar because he used to collect. What did he collect? Antique dolls. Classy Angus. While he is familiar with the stalls, he is TERRIBLE at negotiating. He continually undersells items. Luke helps him and the end up selling a collection of old records for 2k (pounds).
Present: The crew of four is out at a pub. Angus is trying to get back out there after his divorce and who better to help him than Luke. At the last moment, Luke bails, leaving Angus to fend for himself. This gives Evie and Dylan some awkward alone time. No need to talk about Luke telling Evie that Dylan loves her. Dylan tells Evie about Abigail. He then leaves to meet Abigail at another pub and they dance.
Take Away: Note: Dylan is into black chicks. End note.
This was a great episode. It is more apparent now why Evie asked Dylan to be her maid-of-honor and not her own sister. Evie comparing Dylan to her dad, whom she was close with, begins to color their friendship. The parallels between the present and past with Luke and Angus really shed a light on their relationship. We didn’t get a lot of moments like these in season 1. We see a post-Jo, familiar Luke, and a lost, post-Phoebe Luke. Season 2 really gives the audience a chance to learn about Evie and Luke, which is greatly appreciated because Dylan is average.
I still don’t care about Abigail.
