Scott: I don’t know how you do it.
Bucky: Do what?
Scott: Make everything sound like a threat. That man looked like he was about to piss himself, and all you did was ask him to step aside so that we could get past. Even when I actively try to sound threatening, no one takes me seriously.
Bucky: That’s because you look & sound like the personification of a warm hug.

12-  Scott Lang 7- James “Bucky” Barnes
10- ABO
1- Pretend Dating
“Remind me again why I agreed to this?” Bucky asked, looking around the restaurant. Looking, not surveying; he didn’t need to survey when he was on a… not-date?
“Because you’re my friend and was concerned for me?” Scott said from across the table, reading over the menu. “You wanted to make sure the invite for me to come here wasn’t a ploy to get at the Avengers?”
Bucky shrugged, turning back to Scott. “Maybe the second.”
Scott held a hand to his chest. “I didn’t know you cared, Barnes.”
Bucky rolled his eyes, but picked up his own copy of the menu, looking for something to eat.
They were waiting for their food when a stranger walked up to the table. Bucky assessed him immediately:
Alpha. Twenty seven to thirty two. Never been in a fight in his life.
Threat assessment: negligible.
“Scott! I did not think you would show up!” The man smiled too widely, taking a seat at their table, back to Bucky. “How have you been, my friend?”
Scott shook his head. “We were never friends, Matt.”
“Sure we weren’t,” Matt said, and Bucky could hear the undercurrent of authority in the man’s voice. He couldn’t help it; Bucky let out a low growl.
Matt turned around, as though he had only just noticed Bucky’s presence. “My, have you found yourself a new Alpha Scott?”
Bucky’s eyes went wide, and he opened his mouth to reply in the negative when Scott beat him to it.
“Yes.”
Both men turned to look at Scott, who didn’t budge under the looks. “Yeah, we’re dating. You think you want to stay around?”
Matt looked at Bucky, who gave him an unamused look. Matt stood up, holding up his hands. “Alright, alright, I know when I’m not wanted. Guess you wouldn’t be interested in one last job?”
Scott shook his head, waving Matt away. “Goodbye Matt.”
Bucky watched Scott’s face; the man seemed very happy with himself. When Scott looked back at Bucky, his expression didn’t change. “What?”
Bucky shrugged, watching the waiter give them their food, before looking back at Scott. “You seem to like the idea of dating me.”
“What, that?” Scott shrugged his shoulders. “That was to get Matt away. He’s bad news.”
“Uh huh,” Bucky nodded, not entirely believing Scott’s story. “You said it so naturally, you know.”
“Did I?” Scott asked around a mouthful of burger, before shrugging. “Must be good at the lying thing.”
“Must be,” Bucky echoed, not entirely convinced.
