It can’t happen again!
That’s what Bucky kept thinking as he froze, watching you being dragged away by the bad guy. His mind was paralyzed with fear, reliving the trauma of his past. He bit his tongue hard, trying to snap himself out of it.
When the other abductor tried to silence him, something inside Bucky clicked. He entered defense mode, years of training kicking in. “Wake up, Bucky, you have to save her,” he murmured to himself.
As the abductor reached for him, Bucky made a lightning-fast move, grabbing the man's throat and choking him. He lifted the abductor effortlessly, as if he weighed nothing, and threw him aside like a bag of garbage.
“I don’t get paid enough for this,” another abductor yelled, struggling to get you into the SUV.
Bucky sprinted to the car, his heart pounding. He leaped through the air and delivered a powerful kick to the abductor through the car window, shattering the glass. The abductor stumbled back, stunned.
You watched in awe as Bucky’s movements were swift and precise, each one a product of years of training. He grabbed the abductor by the collar and yanked him out of the car, slamming him to the ground with a thud. The abductor tried to fight back, but Bucky blocked every punch with ease.
The abductor threw a desperate punch at Bucky, but he dodged it effortlessly. With a quick, fluid motion, Bucky delivered a powerful blow to the abductor’s midsection, causing him to double over in pain. Bucky didn’t give him a chance to recover; he followed up with a swift uppercut that sent the abductor sprawling to the ground, unconscious.
After Bucky made sure the abductor was unconscious, he rushed over to you. “Are you alright? Did he hurt you?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
You were still speechless, struggling to process what had just happened. You thought you were strong, but facing this type of danger left you paralyzed with fear. If it weren’t for Bucky, you might have been taken.
Bucky noticed your unfocused eyes, recognizing the look from his own past experiences. He gently pulled you into his arms. This time, it was his turn to save you.
Your breath hitched as he hugged you suddenly. It was unexpected, but it felt right. You needed this. You tightened your grip around him, realizing you were safe now.
Bucky’s jaw tightened. “I will find out who ordered these two,” he said, his voice low and angry. He didn’t know why, but he had a short list of suspects who could be behind this. His protective instinct was in overdrive, and he was determined to get to the bottom of it.
👗👗👗👗
At the press release, all the journalists and fashion critics had been waiting for you for an hour. Andrea and the rest of the team were already on edge. They had been trying to call you and were running out of excuses for your tardiness.
“Can you call her again?” Andrea asked her assistant, her voice tight with worry.
Her assistant shook her head, letting out a disappointed sigh. “No luck,” she replied.
Andrea clasped her hands together, silently praying for your arrival.
While the new team wondered where you were, Victoria watched from the backstage with a smug smile.
Genevieve glanced at her daughter. “Late to your first press release and making the magazine editors wait? Good luck recovering from that.”
Victoria smirked. “She won't be coming.”
“What do you mean?” Genevieve asked, her eyes narrowing.
Suddenly, the sound of police sirens filled the air. No one gave much thought to the police car stopping in front of the Velari building until they saw you and Bucky step out.
The journalists' cameras flashed incessantly, capturing every moment as they bombarded you and Bucky with questions about your delay and disheveled appearance.
Andrea and the others sighed in relief at your arrival, but Victoria's face went pale as snow. Her nervousness did not escape her mother’s notice.
Genevieve turned to Victoria, her eyes narrowing. “What did you do?”
Victoria remained silent, trembling visibly.
“You…!” Genevieve gritted her teeth, furious at her daughter's recklessness.
‘Tap. Tap.’
The sound of your heels echoed as you walked up to the podium, your face set with determination. You glanced at Andrea, who gave you a reassuring nod, and then faced the crowd. Bucky stood close by, his presence a silent support.
Genevieve clenched her fists, trying to control her anger, while Victoria’s eyes darted nervously, unable to hide her fear.
With a deep breath, you began, “Thank you all for your patience. I apologize for the delay. We faced an unexpected situation, but we’re here now to share some exciting news about Velari’s future.”
The room quieted, every eye on you, as you began to outline the new direction for Velari, with Bucky’s steady gaze lending you strength.
“May I ask what happened to you?” one of the journalists inquired.
You cleared your throat, a confident smile playing on your lips. “Well, when life gives you lemons, squeeze them into the eyes of your enemies. That's how I’d describe what happened to me today.”
The crowd chuckled, and even Bucky couldn’t help but smile. He then noticed Victoria and Genevieve trying to sneak out through the backdoor. His eyes narrowed, but he remained silent.
Your answer left the room momentarily stunned. The journalists exchanged glances, intrigued and curious about the kind of new leadership Velari was under.
You took a deep breath, steadying yourself, and began your speech. “Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed critics, and valued partners of Velari, today marks a new chapter for us. Velari was built on the dreams and designs of my grandmother, Cassandra, and my mother, Ophelia. Their vision and passion created a legacy that has inspired countless people. It is time to return to those roots, to honor their memory by bringing back the essence of what made Velari great.”
You paused, looking around the room, making eye contact with as many people as possible. “We will be reintroducing classic designs with a modern twist, focusing on quality craftsmanship and timeless elegance. Our goal is to make Velari not just a brand, but a symbol of enduring style and grace.”
You could see heads nodding in agreement, the journalists scribbling notes furiously. Your confidence grew.
“We will also be launching a new line dedicated to sustainability, reflecting our commitment to the environment and ethical fashion. This isn't just about looking good; it's about feeling good, knowing that our choices make a positive impact on the world.”
You noticed some magazine editors smiling, clearly impressed. Andrea was beaming with pride, and even Bucky looked at you with admiration.
“Our journey will not be easy, and there will be challenges ahead. But with your support and our shared dedication, I believe we can elevate Velari to new heights. Together, we can revive the heart and soul of this fashion house.”
The room erupted in applause. Some of the magazine editors even stood up, clapping their hands enthusiastically. You felt a wave of relief wash over you, grateful that your vision resonated with them.
Bucky gave you a reassuring nod, and Andrea looked like she could burst with pride. Meanwhile, Victoria and Genevieve, still trying to slip away unnoticed, froze momentarily at the sound of the applause.
You stepped back from the podium, your heart pounding but filled with hope. “Thank you all for believing in Velari,” you concluded, “and for being part of this incredible journey.”
As the applause continued, you felt a renewed sense of purpose. You were ready to lead Velari into a brighter future, no matter the obstacles.
👗👗👗👗👗
‘Slap!’
Victoria's cheek stung sharply from the blow. She touched her reddening skin, eyes wide with shock. It had been years since her mother had slapped her. Memories of Genevieve hitting her for failing to surpass you in school flooded back. No matter how hard Victoria tried, you were always number one.
Genevieve glared at her, seething with anger. “Are you stupid? Why the hell would you try to kidnap her in broad daylight, with Bucky there too?”
“I just… I'm sorry, Mother,” Victoria stammered, her voice trembling. She knew it was useless to offer excuses; Genevieve was never one to accept them.
Genevieve sighed deeply, shaking her head in frustration. “At least you should’ve hired professionals, not those two amateurs. If you want to scare someone, make it count. One hit should be enough to terrify your enemies.” She had learned this from Jonathan, whose success was partly due to his brutal methods. If persuasion failed, he resorted to fists rather than words.
She sighed again, her frustration palpable. “If your father knew about this, he would be disappointed.” She grabbed her phone and started typing furiously.
“Mom, are you going to tell Dad?” Victoria's voice was laced with fear.
“No way. He would be angry at me too. Be quiet. I’m going to hire someone to clean up your mess,” Genevieve replied curtly.
Victoria's heart raced. “What do you mean?”
Genevieve didn’t look up from her phone, her fingers tapping rapidly. “I mean, I’m going to fix this. Properly.” She glanced at her daughter, her eyes cold and calculating. “And next time, think before you act. One more mistake like this, and I might not be able to protect you.”
👗👗👗👗👗
After the success and the warm welcome from the fashion world, Bucky insists on taking you to the hospital for a check-up.
“I’m fine, really,” you reassure him for the umpteenth time. “Nothing’s broken. I’m just a bit shaken.”
But Bucky remains adamant. “I already called the best doctor to check on you,” he says, his voice firm.
The doctor’s examination confirms your words. “You’re perfectly fine, just a bit of shock,” the doctor says with a smile.
Bucky finally relaxes, albeit reluctantly. “Alright, if the doctor says you’re fine…”
You smile, touched by his protectiveness. “Thank you, Bucky.”
Suddenly, his phone buzzes, and he answers it. “Are you alright? Why didn’t you tell us? Your mom is panicking right now,” Rowan’s voice comes through, laced with worry.
“I’m fine,” Bucky replies, trying to sound reassuring.
Rowan sounds frustrated. “You’re so stubborn. Fine, if you insist. By the way, someone wants to see you and Y/N.”
“Who?” Bucky raises his eyebrows. It’s unusual for his father to ask him to meet someone, especially along with you.
“An old friend of mine,” Rowan says cryptically.
Bucky sighs and looks at you. “My father wants us to meet someone.”
“Who?” you ask, curiosity piqued.
He shrugged his shoulders. "I asked the same thing."
So, both of you arrive at the big mansion. It’s beautiful, reminiscent of Bucky’s place. You can’t help but ask, “Is this your other house?”
Bucky shakes his head. “No, it belongs to my dad’s friend.”
When you arrive, a butler is already waiting and opens the door. “Welcome.”
Rowan is there, waiting. “Come here,” he says, guiding both of you inside. As you walk, you notice the house is filled with antiques, like the interior of a castle.
“Who is this person you’re going to introduce us to?” Bucky asks his dad.
Rowan responds, “An old friend of mine. He just got back from Europe and is interested in investing in Velari.”
The mention of Velari catches your attention.
“What’s his name?” Bucky asks.
“Patrick Beaumont,” Rowan replies.
The name 'Patrick' makes you and Bucky exchange glances.
Finally, you stop at the living room. Standing near the fireplace is a man whose presence is strikingly similar to Bucky’s dad. A successful man. Well, it's evident from the big mansion.
Rowan gestures towards him. “Patrick, here they are.” Rowan continues, “this is Bucky and Y/N. They’re leading the new direction for Velari.”
The man who called himself Patrick turned around and smiled warmly at you and Bucky. He was handsome, tall, and impeccably dressed in a tailored suit. Despite being in his 50s, he exuded an air of vitality and sophistication.
Patrick approached you, and you felt an unexpected wave of emotion from him. There was a subtle sadness in his eyes that made you pause.
While you were trying to read Patrick’s expression, Bucky stood close by, his jaw tightening. He didn't like it when another man looked at you for too long.
Patrick’s voice was soft and tinged with longing. “You look so much like Ophelia.”
Your eyes widened in surprise. Bucky’s did, too. Was this the Patrick your grandma had often mentioned? And why did he mention your mother’s name?

On I,Tonya:
One of the most difficult moves in professional figure skating competitions is a triple axel, which requires the skater to leap forward from the outside edge of one skate blade, rotate three and a half times in the air, and land on the back outside edge of the opposite foot. Only eight women have landed the jump in competition, and Tonya Harding is one of them. In director Craig Gillespie's new biopic I, Tonya, Harding (Margot Robbie) reminisces about having been the first American woman to accomplish this feat in 1991. "Sorry," she says, wiping away tears. "Nobody asks me about that anymore."
Instead, Harding's name is synonymous with one of the biggest scandals in sports history: a "hit" on rival figure skater Nancy Kerrigan after a practice session at the 1994 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, a lead-up event to the Winter Olympics; the perpetrator was hired by Harding's ex-husband, Jeff Gillooly (Sebastian Stan), and her bodyguard, Shawn Eckhardt (Paul Walter Hauser). "The incident," as the characters in I, Tonya ominously refer to it, occurs about halfway through the film, but writer Steven Rogers positions Harding's version of the story as the central narrative and tells it in mostly chronological order, beginning in her childhood. Rogers and Gillespie imply that Harding was also a victim, unfairly maligned by the media and its consumers. They argue that what Harding insists to this day—that she didn't know about the attack until after it happened, and that she delayed going to the authorities out of fear of Gillooly and unjust punishment—is the truth.
The time line of the scandal, though largely told from Harding's perspective, corresponds with the actual events. A man later identified as Shane Stant whacked Kerrigan just above the knee with a police baton as she was leaving practice, then made his escape in a getaway car. The injury forced Kerrigan to withdraw from nationals, which Harding won, but both women were selected for the U.S. Olympic team, and they competed in Lillehammer, Norway, seven weeks after the attack.
In the interim, the media pounced on Harding. Eckhardt confessed to the FBI not long after the attack. A few days later, Harding met with FBI agents and separated from Gillooly, with whom she'd still been living despite their 1993 divorce. Gillooly subsequently turned himself in, and Harding read a statement to the press in which she denied involvement in Kerrigan's assault but admitted she'd learned about it and had waited to report it. At the Olympics, Kerrigan won the silver medal and Harding placed eighth. A few weeks later, Harding pleaded guilty to conspiring to hinder prosecution of the attackers. Consequently, the U.S. Figure Skating Association stripped her of her titles and banned her from professional figure skating for life. Gillooly, along with bodyguard Eckhardt, assailant Stant, and getaway driver Derrick Smith all received prison sentences ranging from 18 months to two years long.
Gillespie and Rogers include faux-documentary interviews that draw from the 2014 ESPN documentary The Price of Gold and more recent discussions Rogers conducted with the real Harding, Gillooly, and others. The characters in I, Tonya comment on the action as it happens, whether through re-created interviews, voice-over narration, or by directly addressing the viewer. Gillespie and Rogers provide details that look bad for Harding (a piece of paper the FBI receives has the phone number of Kerrigan's practice arena on it, in Harding's handwriting) and distort or omit some as well (Harding sued the U.S. Olympic Committee to keep her on the team; in the film, she says they kept her for the ratings).
But the filmmakers establish Harding's victimhood at the outset by focusing on a key aspect of her biography: she was born into a cycle of abuse that persisted throughout her early life. In I, Tonya, Harding's mother, LaVona (Allison Janney), is a narcissistic monster who responds to her daughter's question of "Did you ever love me?" with "Do you think Sonja Henie's mother loved her?" A waitress in rural Oregon, LaVona pushes her child onto the ice at age four and believes she made the girl a champion through emotional and physical abuse. In one scene, LaVona throws a steak knife at her teenaged daughter that lodges in the girl's bicep; Tonya calmly removes the knife before slamming it on the table, the blade dripping with blood as she walks out. Tonya soon after moves in with Gillooly, her first boyfriend, and marries him at the age of 19. The older and more subdued version of Gillooly in I, Tonya denies that he hit her, but in the next scene he's beating her bloody. She kept returning to him, her character says, because she wanted to be loved, and Gillooly was the only person in her life who claimed to love her.
Harding considers herself a victim in another respect—as the target of class bias from elite figure skating competition judges. Gillespie and Rogers portray the latter as corrupt snobs who dock points based on Harding's unruly "presentation." In a memorable scene, Harding chases down a judge in the parking lot after one such competition and asks why he gave her an average score for a technically perfect routine. He insinuates that her white trash upbringing, made obvious by her hand-sewn costumes, clashes with the wholesome image the U.S. Olympic team aims to project. "You're representing America, for Christ's sake," he says. "But why can't it just be about the skating?" she replies. Years later, when Harding's career is over and she's nuking a TV dinner in her microwave at home, she watches David Letterman mock her on television. The audience laughs, and Harding looks numb, as if the last shred of hope she had for the American public to love or at least respect her for skating had vanished.
In her 30s, Harding turned to celebrity boxing to pay the bills, depicted in I, Tonya's gruesome final scene. "Violence is all I know, anyway," Harding says in voice-over, just before her opponent socks her in the mouth and she spews blood into the air. But even more wrenching is the only footage of the real Harding shown in the film, over the end credits: she's performing her 1991 nationals routine and, radiant, lands her historic triple axel. With this, I, Tonya seems to implicate the viewer in Harding's cultural abasement, rhetorically asking: It should've been about the skating, but you didn't really care about that, did you?

Thank you to everyone who has read this chapter. Leave a comment and Reblog, please. I'd love to hear your thoughts. ❤️
“Cassy, pardon my eldest daughter. As a mother, I admit the mistakes and the shame you've witnessed today.” Genevieve clasped her friend’s hands together, her demeanor polished yet tense.
She couldn't ruin Victoria and Bucky's engagement because of you. She had worked hard to persuade her husband to connect with the Barnes.
Juliana looked at Genevieve, noting how she was swallowing her pride—a remarkable feat for such a proud woman. She gently patted her friend's hand. “It’s alright. Every family has its own troubles.”
Genevieve's face brightened upon hearing that. She placed a hand on her chest. “Oh, what a great friend you are. I’m so glad we’re going to be in-laws.”
Victoria felt a wave of relief wash over her. Your attempt to ruin her future hadn't succeeded.
Bucky and his mother, exuding an air of sophistication and wealth, got into their Rolls-Royce Phantom. Juliana's movements were graceful, and her every gesture was a testament to their family's high status. Still silent and composed, Bucky followed her, his mind racing with thoughts of the day’s events.
In the quiet ride, Bucky's mind kept replaying the events of the day. His fingers touched his lips.
Someone had touched his face and kissed him.
He hadn’t vomited or fainted.
He would have to see the doctor tomorrow.
“Are you alright?” Juliana looked at her son, noticing how unusually quiet he seemed. He hadn't shown any reaction when she saw him get so close to you. Compared to Victoria, she could see Bucky's face turn pale.
Bucky murmured, “It's strange.”
Then he looked at his mother. “After what we saw today, do you still want to keep the engagement going?”
Juliana tilted her head and crossed her arms. “We need their money. I thought being in-laws would benefit us, but I'm starting to have second thoughts. We'll see.”
She asked, “What about you? If you don't like it, we can stop the wedding.”
Bucky hummed, his eyes looking out the window. “I don't know.”
Right now, all he needed was an answer to why he didn’t react when you kissed him.
He grabbed his phone and started typing, his fingers moving quickly over the screen. “I want you to search for someone.” Then he clicked send.
Within a minute, his phone vibrated with a message: “OK.”
Bucky leaned back in his seat, his fingers lingering on his lips, his mind racing as the car smoothly glided through the city streets.
💋💋💋💋
Inside the bedroom, Bucky emerged from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around his waist, water droplets glistening on his six-pack abs and muscular chest. His dark hair was damp, and he exuded a fresh, clean scent.
He had spent an hour in the shower, trying to wash away the sensation of Victoria’s touch.
Then he heard his phone buzz again. It was the information he had requested about your background.
He quickly put on his pants, then sat on the edge of his bed, his body still slightly wet, and started reading the message, his eyes scanning the details intently.
The story unfolded: you are the child of the first wife. After your mother's death, your father, Jonathan, brought another woman and her daughter into the house.
It turned out that when Jonathan was drunk, a woman took advantage of the situation. That woman was Genevieve, and her daughter was Victoria.
You hated your stepmother and stepsister, becoming a rebel. You caused chaos at home and were a troublemaker at school, until the day you were finally kicked out of the house.
Bucky read on until he reached the part about your occupation. His eyes widened in disbelief, and he stood up abruptly. “She's what?!”
🎒🎒🎒🎒
“RINGGGG!”
The bell's sound echoed throughout the entire building. It was supposed to signal the students to enter their classrooms. But they didn’t. They continued smoking, sitting on the floor, or sleeping.
This was a common sight at Granite Hills Reform School, where problematic, delinquent students from all over the country were gathered.
“Tuck. Tuck. Tuck.” The sound of something hitting the floor echoed in the hallway. Students who were still lingering started to head into their classrooms. The sound served as a final warning for them.
They didn’t want to have a problem with the person responsible for the noise.
“It’s time to enter the class, you lazy pricks. Why the heck are you guys still here? Are you discussing the solution for world peace?” You tapped a baseball bat on a locker door, addressing the final-year students who were still acting tough.
The students who had been acting strong before began to back away. One of them pulled a friend away from starting a fight with you. “Let's go. Didn’t you hear she fought two students who weighed like sumo wrestlers?”
“It was her? Damn. No wonder she broke her left hand.”
You watched as the last group of students left the hallway. Now it was empty.
You entered your classroom. Your students were already waiting for you, looking attentive and ready.
You sat on your chair and rested your leg on your teacher's desk.
Pointing at one student, you said, “Andre, prepare the TV.”
“TV again? When can we study?” Jimmy, one of the students, complained.
“Now you want to study? Fuck. I don't get paid enough for this,” you retorted.
“Grab your phone and look for 'To Kill a Mockingbird,'” you instructed.
“We didn't use the book?” Jimmy asked.
“What's the point? You're going to throw the book away,” you replied.
The other students agreed with your reasoning.
“Read two chapters, and I will ask you questions,” you said.
The students in your class started complaining amongst themselves, but you didn't care.
After a while, you announced, “Time's up,” and began asking questions.
You got up from your seat and walked around the class, your presence commanding attention. Then, you picked unlucky student Jimmy.
“Who is Scout Finch, and how does she introduce herself and her family in Chapter 1?” you asked.
Jimmy gulped nervously. “Scout Finch is a local shopkeeper who lives alone and has no family.”
“WRONG,” you declared bluntly.
“Miss, I know the answer,” Andre raised his hand eagerly.
“Give it to me,” you commanded.
“Scout Finch is the young narrator of the story. She introduces her father, Atticus Finch, her brother, Jem, and mentions her mother’s death,” Andre confidently answered.
You snapped your fingers, a smirk playing on your lips. “That's right. Bravo.” Then, you pulled dollar bills from your pants pocket and handed them to Andre.
“As a reward, you could skip this class, buy a coca-cola for you, and grab a coffee from the cafeteria for me,” you said.
“But… I'm diabetic,” Andre protested.
“A mineral water for you then,” you replied dismissively.
Andre rolled his eyes and left the classroom. As he headed to the cafeteria, he never imagined that the hallway would be empty and the dirty graffiti gone.
All of this has happened since you joined this school, and the crime records have also decreased significantly.
You were scary as heck, but you had made a change in this school.
As Andre returned to the class with the drinks, he saw someone who seemed out of place entering the building.
He looked the gentleman up and down. This man seemed to embody the type of person he wanted to become when he grew up.
“I'm looking for Miss Sinclair,” the man asked Andre with a deep voice.
Andre raised his eyebrows, taken aback. “My teacher?”
💋💋💋💋
Back in the classroom, you sat behind your teacher's desk, still asking questions while waiting for your coffee. You rested your right arm behind you and propped your legs up on the desk again.
Finally, Andre entered.
“Finally—" you began, but your words stopped short when you saw the person behind your student.
“Whaa—Andre, did you bring your master?” Jimmy asked, starting to laugh. “Hahaha—oh.” He realized he was the only one laughing in the class.
Andre handed you your coffee. “Here's your coffee, miss. This gentleman is looking for you.”
“Oh, you have a gigolo, miss?” Jimmy quipped.
You looked at the guest while sipping your hot coffee. “The outfit he's wearing from head to toe is worth more than your net worth, Jimmy.”
Other students murmured while Jimmy asked, “Should I become a gigolo too?”
“What are you doing here?” you asked Bucky.
“I want to talk to you,” Bucky replied.
“I don't have time,” you retorted.
“Is this how you talk after you stole a kiss from me?” Bucky's words hung in the air.
“Oohhh…,” the students murmured in surprise, their voices echoing in the classroom. Seeing their intimidating teacher talking to a man who looked prosperous, and she stole a kiss??
“RINGGGG…”
“Get all of your asses out of this room,” you commanded sternly, gesturing for the students to leave.
“Awww,” the students started complaining, reluctant to leave as they wanted to see what happened next. However, they eventually relented and filed out of the classroom, grumbling as they went. In a short moment, the classroom had become empty.
“Is this how you talk to your students?” Bucky asked, a hint of amusement in his voice, observing your interaction with the students.
“They're not students, they're devil spawn,” you replied with a wry smile, leaning back in your chair with a sense of satisfaction.
“Pfft…” Bucky turned away his face, trying his best not to laugh. Now, he realizes entirely that you're different from all the women he's ever met, especially Victoria.
“So why are you here? Is it because I kissed you without your consent?” you asked bluntly, raising an eyebrow.
Bucky cleared his throat. “Ehm. Partly. And I want to talk to you about something else. Please,” he replied politely, his demeanor surprisingly calm despite the situation.
You raised your eyebrows, not expecting him to ask so politely. He didn't seem mad, even after you kissed him. You were starting to feel like Bucky was too good for your stepsister.
