       Jack's brow shot up so high that it almost vanished into his bandana. He'd vowed not to get involved but, really, how was he meant to resist when the pair of them were dancing around each other like this, all snark and attitude and trying to conceal their grins whenever they got a hit in on the other? It was a familiar play; he and Henry's mother had struck the exact same tune over twenty years ago, and perhaps there was some part of him, deep down, that had wished someone had intervened on their behalf at the time. To put a stop to it, perhaps, or to... spark something more than what had in fact manifested between them. Jack did not regret the past twenty years, but there was no denying that he and Elizabeth had perfected their dance to an art form.

       Crossing the deck in order to close the distance between them, Jack put a hand on the boy's shoulder. “ You are woefully misunderstanding women, Henry. They love to disagree, even when they in fact agree. It keeps us as a lesser species on our toes. At least that's my experience. ” He shrugged, unsure on secondthought whether his own experience was actually beneficial to anyone.
