Being the firstborn had always but that pressure to be the perfect child. The daughter of an Architect and her mother an opera singer. From a young age, Serena was always doing something. Ballet, piano lesson, and violin. There was never really a moment where she was really a kid. Her focus was to be on school and her activities. Her parents were always busy with work and she was often left with maids and nannies. Some were more strict like her parents, some were slightly laxer and would let her try to have some fun. Yet, that never stopped Serena from causing some sort of trouble. As much as she was a good child, she loved to also have fun, especially when her parents were not around. Her whole world changed at the age of nine when her little sister was born. Serena was head over heels in love with her little sister and would do anything for her. She could not wait until she was older and had someone to play with. Being an only though it was nice to always be the center of attention, she was excited at having a sister. The two grew up to be thick as thieves. Though there was a huge age gap between them, they always had fun growing up.  At the age of three, Lennon became very ill, eventually losing her hearing. This really changed her family suddenly they had to change how they communicated with Lennon. Serena was eager to learn sign language for her sister, where her parents instant just wanted to pay to fix it. Serena just wanted to do what was easiest for her sister. Jamie met Jamie Kingsly as a teenager. The two became instant friends as they both hated being dragged to the social events their parents were a part of. Though they did not live close to one another, they kept in touch over the years and through college.

 As Serena grew older she always felt the pressure to get good grades, to go to college to be a doctor or a lawyer. Serena found love in teaching. Learning American Sign language as a teen really pushed her to want to help others. Even graduating high school with honors and getting into Harvard, she still chose to go with her dream rather than what her parents wanted. Her parents refused to pay for the education she wanted, which just pushed her hard. Serena worked while in school to help pay for it. Knowing it was not cheap. Serena was beyond excited to start college though she did miss her family. She was finally able to be free of her parent’s tight grasp. In college is where she met her who she would marry. The two eventually moved in together as Serena finished college. Serena instantly got a job at an elementary school to work with children who were like her sister. She loved her job and did not even care what disappointment it made her parents feel.

 Years go by. Serena marries the love of her life, her wife. Her parents were not happy that Serena was going to marry a woman. They were always very traditional and wanted her like themselves to marry a rich man who had a great job. This really put a riff between Serena and her parents. Serena was an adult, and she was happy. She would put her new family ahead of anyone. The couple was so happy over the years. She was a firefighter, while Serena was a teacher. The couple were ready to start a family and took in many ways to have this happen. After speaking to Jamie, he offered to be the father of their daughter. The two had always been good friends and the couple was so grateful for him offering to help them with starting their family. Winry Rose Hollingsworth was born and looked healthy. Only to find out that she was deaf like Serena’s brother. Her whole pregnancy Serena was told her daughter was perfect. It was a shock to know that her daughter was deaf, but Serena loved her and would always love her as if she was like any other child. Over the years the large city became too much, and being far from the little girl’s father became tougher. The happily married couple decided to move to Salem to be closer to Jamie and well to raise their daughter in a smaller town. They have been in Salem now for about a year. Serena still is teaching with kids who need special educational help like her daughter.

chloe harper crawford was born on july 23, 1998 in charleston, south carolina. she is a cancer-leo cusp. her mother is savannah crawford nee harper, an ex-pageant queen, and her father is andrew crawford, of the charleston crawfords.

the crawfords are a veeeery old-money charleston family, and chloe’s father was one of their most successful outputs, running the family business perfectly. chloe and her younger brother braden (born three years after, and the heir presumptive to the crawford throne) were the crown jewel of their picture-perfect family.

chloe’s mother started training the girl the day she was born to follow in her footsteps as a future miss south carolina. despite having the perfect blonde curls and the big blue eyes, the pageant lifestyle didn’t come easily to chloe - she didn’t have the edge, that certain bite needed to slice someone open with a razor-sharp smile.

however, in this training chloe realized that she truly loved the stage, the spotlight, the adoration of the crowd. it didn’t take her long to channel that energy into acting.

though chloe struggled in school, acting made her feel at home. it gave her an outlet, a place to shine, unlike the classroom where she felt awkward and slow. as she grew, she learned to channel the confidence acting gave her into her social life, and suddenly she was the center of attention. being a pretty, rich blonde didn’t hurt either.

as chloe approached college age, it was practically a given that she would go to hollingsworth, rush kkd like her mother, major in something safe like communications or pr, marry a good southern boy, and return to charleston to continue the family legacy. however, she went against the wishes of her family and instead applied to nine different schools, all for their drama programs. she got into all nine, but ultimately decided to go to hollingsworth anyway.

hollingsworth proved to be a place chloe could thrive, that provided her with tons of opportunities. one such opportunity was a short film, written and directed by a semi-famous hollingsworth alum. chloe auditioned and got the lead role, filming over the summer before junior year.

she thought it would be nothing, just a bit of experience for her resume after she finished college and started the hard stuff. but when the film was shown at the new york film festival, it got surprise rave reviews and a lot of attention. suddenly, chloe was a hot commodity, and she’s had offers from major film studios, including a signed contract for a role she’s supposed to play just after she graduates from hollingsworth.

just as chloe’s fortunes were going up, however, her family’s were going down. the summer before her senior year at hollingsworth, the family business was exposed as having corrupt practices, and is on the verge of shutting down. though chloe’s father claims he knows nothing about it, he’s being investigated for fraud.

she’s very VERY nervous about interviewing, press appearances, and the general business of being a rising star. although she acts like a social butterfly and is a very charming girl, it doesn’t necessarily come easy to her. deep down, she still feels like the awkward kid in class, who doesn’t quite fit in or get it, no matter how hard she tries.

despite her high social standing due to being in kkd, she’s one of the sweetest girls you’ll ever meet. she definitely doesn’t subscribe to the idea that kappa girls are better than anyone else -- unless you cross her, she would never hurt a fly and in fact goes out of her way to be nice to people. she truly believes in the idea that everyone’s fighting their own battle and you don’t need to make it any harder for them.

despite that, if you do cross her, and do something major, the claws can come out. she’s not afraid to stand up for herself although she tends to wait a little longer than she should to speak out.

she’s a hopeless romantic and falls in love so fast. she loves being in love just as much as she loves the person she’s with. mostly, she loves being in a relationship and she gives her heart and soul to the person completely.

she’s not the brightest but she is truly kind and sweet.

she’s probably super involved in kkd! she lives at the house and like... probably is that girl who wears her letters everywhere and constantly talks about formals and frat boys. idk whether there’s like ‘positions’ in the rp but i could def see her as recruitment chair or social chair!

Traffic stop leads to cocaine trafficking and weapons charges

Colchester District RCMP have charged two people with trafficking cocaine and multiple firearms offences after a traffic stop in Elmsdale last Friday.

Police say they stopped a car on Highway 214 and arrested Serena Marie Hollingsworth, 27, of Bible Hill and Timothy Charles Gower Bond, 32, of Valley, without incident.

Mounties say their officer found a loaded firearm on the floor on the front passenger side and seized the car.

"A warrant was granted and a further search of the car resulted in the seizure of ammunition, cocaine, cash, cellphones and related documents," the RCMP said in a news release.

Hollingsworth and Bond were released on conditions and are scheduled to appear in Shubenacadie Provincial Court on Sept. 21.

Police say they are both charged with the following offences:

using a firearm in the commission of an offence;

careless use of a firearm;

possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose;

carrying a concealed weapon;

unauthorized possession of a firearm;

possession of firearm when knowing possession is unauthorized;

possession of firearm in a motor vehicle; and,

possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.

THEIR STORY

Claire Johnson and Willow Bailey met each other in high school. They were the high school sweethearts, despite the fact that most of the time they both had to keep it a secret. Times were different back then. They were active participants in the aftermath of the Stonewall riots, promising to each other that when they have children of their own, they would do what they can to make sure the world was much nicer to them and more open to accepting them for who or what they were.

Fast-forward ten years in the future, and a child had blessed the two loving mothers. Meadow was their little pride and blessing and they couldn’t have asked for anything more but happiness for their little bundle of joy.

Meadow grew up in a very supportive and loving environment. Her mothers actively supported her constantly changing interests and hobbies, trying the absolute best to provide Meadow with anything she would need at the time. It helped the young child to form the mindset that it was absolutely okay to be unsure and continue discovering yourself, even if you think you’ve got quite a good grasp on it.

Neither Claire nor Willow pressured Meadow into applying for university or college unless she felt like she really wanted to. That didn’t mean that the couple wasn’t overjoyed and ready to celebrate when Meadow successfully enrolled in Harvard, choosing African and African American Studies as her major. The young girl wanted to know more about her own heritage, about the kind of culture that the grandmother of her grandmother was surrounded by. Even if she knew she might not end up utilising her degree in the future, it was very much a passion project for her and Meadow couldn’t be happier.

While in Harvard, Meadow had met the woman she would later have the absolute blessing of calling her wife. Was it love at first sight? Oh, absolutely. Meadow fell head over heels from the first few weeks of knowing each other and there was no big surprise that the couple had moved in together so soon after graduating. Once they finally found a place of their own, Meadow began truly delving into her passion that followed her all the way from early high-school years — sculpting and wood carving. She began making wooden statuettes, also working with clay and marble, selling her creations online and becoming a small business owner in their own right.

First comes love, then comes marriage… and before Meadow even realised how much time had passed, the pair were blessed with a baby girl. There were no words to describe the love Meadow had for Winry. The disability be damned, she would sooner be found dead than let anything happen to either her wife or their little girl. Meadow did all she could to make sure that she was prepared for some obstacles along the way; she began learning sign language from Serena, topping it up with professional lessons online. Eventually, not only did she became more fluent in ASL, she also found herself a lot more confident and often switching into the protective mother bear mode when their daughter was concerned.

Meadow fully supported Serena’s offer to move to a place that was a little quieter than the concrete jungle. Her support grew tenfold when the couple chose Salem, of all places. It was rich with history and folklore, and Meadow felt right at home. Today, she’s a stay-at-home mom with her own little artsy business on the side, hoping to one day own a small shop in town where she could sell her own creations.

THEIR STORY

Growing up in Chicago’s foster care was hard for Persephone. No one knew her name, how to spell it, how to say it. No one knew how to take care of her hair properly. No one knew her. She had been tossed around, passed around, thrown up down left and right. She was dealt with the short end of the stick from the moment she was born. Her mother, Charity, 19 at the time, was higher than a kite. She was barely holding onto her boyfriend & dealer, Royce, using him for a place to eat, sleep, and use. Persephone was born addicted to heroin. It was a task that took multiple families to break the infant’s chills. At this point, everyone was just surprised the baby girl made it out alive.

Persephone lived in a series of 9 foster homes in her first 15 years of life, changing about every 2 years like clockwork. She spent most of her time in a group home until she found a family at 16. The only catch was that they were moving to Salem. By 18 she bounced from couch to couch of friend’s houses. Getting an internship at Salem’s own firehouse was a lifesaver. She had a place to stay half the time, she made a family. She ended up becoming a medic instead of a firefighter, something that caught her eye while she was filing paperwork.

She worked hard not to slip, trip, or fall face first into old ways. It wasn’t until she was moving to Boston that everything changed. She wasn’t doing anything wrong, just the wrong place at the wrong time. Surgery went well, but  without reading her file, she ended up on strong pain killers. It didn’t take much for her body to react, wanting more and more. She managed to hide it well, not letting anyone in on what exactly she was doing even years after she should have stopped.

Everything seemed to change when she met Serena. Persephone tried harder to be an adult, to take care of herself instead of someone else. With her help, she was able to get clean and remain clean. Proposing had been a whole other world. She never expected to find someone she loved so much but when a goddess such as her stepped in, you didn’t turn her away. Serena brought out the romantic in her. She went all out in whatever she could do, getting creative when she didn’t have the money to do what she wanted.

Bringing a little girl into the world was better than she could have imagined. Not having a family herself, she was eager to get started on one. Still devoting a lot of time to her job with the fire department, she comes home to her wife and daughter to spend as much time as she possibly can with her girls.

HIS STORY

Lennon was an accident, but a happy one. His parents, an architect and a former opera singer, were older than one would imagine expecting parents to be. They’d already had one daughter, who was nine years old and the apple of their eye. When they found out they were going to have another, they were surprised, but not displeased. There was never any doubt in their mind that they could handle another child. They were a happy little family, and the new addition could only make them happier. When Lennon was born, the little baby girl was welcomed with all the warmth and affection and anything a little girl could ever want.

At first Lennon seemed the perfect child. Minimal crying, lots of smiles and giggles, and wide eyes that were almost always focused on something. Lennon liked to learn, liked to take in everything around him, always seemed ahead of his peers. Until he was about three years old, and things started to change. Lennon wouldn’t respond when spoken to, wouldn’t react to sounds, and occasionally would throw tantrums for what seemed to be no real reason. Lennon stopped using words and sentences, reverted to making small noises of disgruntlement when he wasn’t screaming.

All it took was one doctor visit to find out Lennon was quickly losing his hearing. It was genetic, a bad combination of just the right DNA. A gene neither of his parents knew that they carried, but mixed together created the perfect storm. Lennon was almost completely deaf by the time he was four years old. At five years old, just before starting school, he was fitted with his first cochlear implant. A year later, he got his second, in the opposite ear. He was initially not very into them, they were more a nuisance than anything else, but he got used to them. Admittedly, they did make life a little bit easier.

What he really wished was that everyone else would learn sign language. He soaked up ASL like a sponge, eager to learn, eager to communicate in a way that was much more comfortable for him. Anytime someone spoke to him with their hands, he cheered up. He became more outgoing and friendly, less shy and reserved. He was grateful for his parents and his sister, who learned with him and were usually good about using it when speaking with him.

There were still plenty of challenges to overcome, and Lennon’s parents did everything they could to make sure he never fell behind. They really hadn’t needed to worry, all the money they poured into private schools and one-on-one tutors only succeeded in pushing him ahead of his peers by a few years. The very first private school Lennon attended, until he was nine years old, had a very strict uniform policy. Boys wore slacks, girls wore skirts. Lennon woke up every morning and fought his parents on putting on his skirt. He demanded the slacks, and every morning he was shut down. He did everything he could to fight the policy, including wearing slacks underneath his skirt and eventually settling for leggings, which seemed to be the only thing his principal didn’t write him up for. But as time went on, and Lennon became more and more sure that he didn’t belong in a skirt, his cries became louder.

He passed out petitions, he led protests, he fought and fought and fought. Until one day he was suspended for a week, and his parents chewed him out from the time he got home until the time he went to bed. Early the next morning he declared to his parents that he was a boy, and he would be treated as such. He told them they needed to find him a new school, because this one would never accept him as a boy. His parents told him it was a phase, and he needed to take the week to really reflect on his choices, yada yada yada. They found him a therapist, someone to help him work through his ‘issues’. The therapist called him a ‘tomboy’ and played games with him while trying to get him to open up.

Lennon didn’t open up with his therapist. He did, however, open up his own wrists with the sharpest kitchen knife he could find. He didn’t really know what he was doing, and thankfully he was found and stitched up quickly, but his parents were forced to open their eyes and see their daughter as their son. Or they were forced to ‘play along’, as they saw it. Lennon didn’t really care, as long as they weren’t forcing him to keep his hair long and wear skirts anymore. He started at a new school two weeks later, one with a more lenient uniform where he could wear pants. He was registered as a female still, but one of his middle school English teachers acknowledged him as a boy in her class, and it changed his life. For the first time ever, he felt seen and accepted, and knowing what that felt like made him feel as if he could keep going, holding on and waiting for a future where he got to choose the people that surrounded him. People just like his English teacher.

Lennon graduated from high school at barely sixteen years old. All the private schooling and independent tutors served him well, and he went off to college at the young age. Around this time he also decided to get top surgery, which did not sit well with his parents. They could handle the binder, the short hair cuts, and even Lennon calling himself a boy; but when it came to having something surgically removed from his body, they repeatedly asked him why he wanted to “mutilate” his body. They’d pushed back about the hormone therapy too, so he’d expected some struggle, but he hadn’t expected the fight they put up. After a lot of messy fights, Lennon left home. He moved in with his sister, who had always been supportive of him, and told his parents they could go fly a kite, so to speak. He got emancipated, then got his top surgery and kept up with his hormone therapy while working 40 hours a week at a used book store and going to college.

It took him only one semester to decide what he wanted to study: anthropology. Something about other cultures really spoke to him, and as soon as he graduated he went back to get his master’s. While working on that, he did some intern work for a local museum, which he also fell in love with. It was also somewhere between starting college and getting his master’s that his sister had a baby, a beautiful little girl who Lennon was immediately obsessed with. His obsession only grew when they discovered Winnie was deaf; not that it really mattered, but he did get a little excited to know he wouldn’t be the only one with a hearing impairment at the next family gathering. He was there for every bit of it, for helping her learn to function as a deaf child and for helping everyone around her master their sign language (though Serena was already nearly perfect, thanks to having learned for Lennon as a child).

When Serena and her family moved to Salem, Lennon didn’t hesitate to pack up and move with them. By then he was spending his summers immersed in other cultures on several continents and it was easy to get a job as a curator at The House of the Seven Gables. He loves Salem, loves the dark history there, and will tell you absolutely anything you want to know about the history of the town. He may have moved there for Serena and the family, but he really feels as if this is the place he was always meant to find.
