from a MAD book in the late 60s that radicalised me as a british kid
should have done an ID, sorry
[ID: a three panel cartoon, characters in white with black lines against a grey background
panel 1: from the left, five US cops in 60s riot helmets run toward a street corner where a bunch of hippies are yelling and protesting with placards, facing away from the cops so we only see the placard backs - the police have their batons out and have ugly grins of delight at the thought of doing violence
panel 2: as the police get to the hippies they're stopped in their tracks and look shocked and confused - the hippies have all suddenly spun round with friendly smiles on their faces, and the placards read things like "we need more police", "help the cops", "back the man on the beat", "support your police dept" and so on
panel 3: the police stand just before the corner, scratching their heads and looking baffled, with question marks over them - meanwhile out of sight around the corner, the hippies are collapsing in laughter at what they just pulled off
