A needed change.
Had to revisit them again, and it felt right to finally make this comic idea I had since 2019. 🖤💙

‘Saved By the Bell’ remake coming with Maria Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley
CLOSE
Tumblr media
It’s been 30 years since we fell in love with the cast of “Saved by the Bell’ – including Mario Lopez, Tiffani Thiessen and Mark-Paul Gosselaar. USA TODAY
Once again, we are getting “Saved By the Bell”!
The series that followed Zack Morris and his friends as they navigated high school life at Bayside is being rebooted as part of NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, which will be offered free to current cable and satellite subscribers, or at a monthly charge to others. The service will include commercials, and no pricing details have been revealed just yet.
Get “so excited” because the remake will feature original cast members including Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano) and Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater).
Here’s the official description: “When California governor Zack Morris (Time out Governor Zack Morris?! Time in!) gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest performing schools in the state – including Bayside High. The influx of new students gives the over privileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”

Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who played the brick cell phone-toting Zack, revealed to USA TODAY in an interview earlier this year that he didn’t take the original show seriously, predicting each season it would be canceled. The series premiered in 1989 and lasted for four seasons, plus a single season for the college spinoff.
“Every season it was like, ‘OK, we had our run and we’ll see each other at some point,’ ” he said. “And then we were always surprised to come back.”
Gosselaar says he doesn’t think the show “had that big of a coolness factor” while filming, saying the “cool show” was “Beverly Hills, 90210.”
“They were really doing some edgy things for young adults,” he said.
Edgy wouldn’t necessarily be the way to describe the caffeine pill addiction Jessie had, which makes Gosselaar laugh when it’s brought up.
“If I were to be in that position now, I would seriously look at the producers and writers and go, ‘Really, caffeine pills? That’s what we’re hooked on?’ ” he admitted. “But at the time, we were just having fun with each other; we were having fun being actors.”
“Punky Brewster” is also getting the reboot treatment, this time featuring Punky (still played by Soleil Moon Frye) as a single mother of three.
NBC’s Peacock launches in April.
