Ces variétés ont augmenté les revenus et la sécurité alimentaire des agriculteurs en améliorant leur productivité et leur accès au marché. Le taux d'adoption de ces variétés a été estimé à 67% dans le nord de Kaduna et à 55% dans le sud de Kaduna.

 Dans l'État de Benue, au centre du Nigeria, les agriculteurs ont bénéficié de l'introduction de la variété SC-SL01 par l'IITA en partenariat avec Sasakawa Global 2000 (SG2000). Cette variété a un potentiel de rendement élevé allant jusqu'à 3 tonnes par hectare et une teneur élevée en protéines allant jusqu'à 40 %. Les agriculteurs qui ont planté le SC-SL01 ont signalé une augmentation moyenne du rendement de 50 % par rapport aux variétés locales. Ils ont également signalé une amélioration de leurs revenus grâce à la vente de leurs excédents de production aux transformateurs et commerçants locaux.

 Dans l'État d'Oyo, au sud-ouest du Nigeria, les agriculteurs ont participé au projet Soybean Innovation Lab (SIL) financé par l'initiative Feed the Future de l'USAID. Ce projet vise à améliorer la production et l'utilisation du soja grâce à des systèmes de semences améliorés, des pratiques agronomiques, une manipulation après récolte, des technologies de transformation et des liens commerciaux. Nigerian soybean, a sustainable source for world soy manufacturers

Nigerian soybeans are renowned for their superior quality, rich nutritional profile, and excellent taste. Grown under optimal conditions, these soybeans boast high protein content, essential amino acids, and a low oil content, making them ideal for a wide range of applications, including food processing, animal feed, and industrial uses. Sustainability is at the heart of Nigeria's soybean production. Farmers employ eco-friendly practices, minimizing the use of pesticides and promoting responsible land management. But what makes Nigerian soybean truly stand out is the variety and quality of its seeds. Nigeria has several improved soybean varieties that are suited to different agroecological zones and have high yield potential, resistance to pests and diseases, and drought tolerance. The government has implemented several initiatives to help farmers increase their yield and quality, such as providing access to improved seeds and fertilizers, improving infrastructure and transportation networks, and investing in research and development. The private sector has also contributed to the growth of the soybean industry by establishing processing plants, creating market linkages, and providing extension services.

To illustrate the success of Nigerian soybean industry, here are some case studies that you can refer to:  In Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, farmers have adopted improved soybean varieties promoted by the N2Africa project, such as TGX1835 (Danwuri), TGX1951-3F, TGX1955-4F, TGX1448-2E5, and TGX1904-6F3. These varieties have increased farmers’ income and food security by enhancing their productivity and market access. The adoption rate of these varieties was estimated at 67% in northern Kaduna and 55% in southern Kaduna.

 In Benue State, central Nigeria, farmers have benefited from the introduction of SC-SL01 variety by IITA in partnership with Sasakawa Global 2000 (SG2000). This variety has a high yield potential of up to 3 tons per hectare and a high protein content of up to 40%. Farmers who planted SC-SL01 reported an average yield increase of 50% compared to local varieties. They also reported improved income from selling their surplus produce to local processors and traders.

 In Oyo State, southwestern Nigeria, farmers have participated in the Soybean Innovation Lab (SIL) project funded by USAID Feed the Future initiative. This project aims to improve soybean production and utilization through improved seed systems, agronomic practices, post-harvest handling, processing technologies, and market linkages. Farmers who adopted SIL-recommended practices reported an average yield increase of 75% compared to their previous practices. They also reported increased consumption of soybean products such as milk, cheese, flour, and snacks for household nutrition.
