Bingyuan and Changgu parallels are endless but the really interesting one to me is that SQQ knew what was going to happen to Binghe. That Binghe would turn into a violent madman who ends up spelling doom for him. But in Changgu's case, it's Chang Geng who knows about the curse while Gu Yun mostly believes that Chang Geng is gonna turn out to be the benevolent, compassionate man the Emperor was.

Luo Binghe didn't know the dark future that awaited him but SQQ did. Chang Geng has a premonition while Gu Yun has no idea

I'm on the chapter where they captured the leader of the bandit group Chang Geng had his first memories with and Gu Yun is close to finding out everything and it's viscerally driving in the point of how helpless Gu Yun feels that he could not do anything for Chang Geng back then because he was also a child.

When Chang Geng was a baby, Gu Yun was about 7 and couldn't possibly have done anything to save him. When they found Chang Geng at 12 yo, Gu Yun would've been roughly 19 and it's illogical to expect a socially awkward ptsd ridden 19 yo to immediately grasp that Chang Geng may have been running away from an abusive parent, especially when both Xiu Niang and Chang Geng were hellbent on hiding it so well. Of course Gu Yun has regrets. Whether you are old or young, naive or perceptive, you are still you and the people you love are still the people you wanna save and you couldn't do it. You couldn't be there and when you were there, you didn't get what was happening.

And at this point it comes full circle when you realize that Chang Geng feels EXACTLY the same. Him wishing he was born 10 years before his time, him trying to grow up faster and become capable soon so that he could be of use to Gu Yun, all of those are Chang Geng's fight against time and his own youth. Gu Yun wished he wasn't a child when Chang Geng needed rescuing just like Chang Geng wishes he wasn't a child when Gu Yun needs/needed support

Chang Geng after Gu Yun enters: poor little meow meow, a silly klutzy lil kitten, just a lil babie with a boo boo

Scared to death by his 'yifu' drowning, only to find out he nearly drowned and burned to death for no reason, then getting yelled at by the person he was trying to protect, and then finding out his mom is not his real mom. Chang Geng is having one hell of a day

Ok I know I made a joke about Chang Geng having a better read on Gu Yun than even Shen Yi because he's an obsessive fanboy, but the thing is, Chang Geng is such a perceptive person! He actually has such a good read on literally everyone! From the Emperor to Liao Ran to Chen Qing Xu to Shen Yi to random Generals, Chang Geng has an uncanny ability to just understand people and predict what they'll do. Time and time again, he's turned out to be the trump card because of this and because no one expected him to have this good of a read of the situation. And I love that we got to see him grow into this. I feel like I saw him grow into this wonderful and talented person in front of me and just ... Chang Geng makes me feel so proud of him!!!!

Chang Geng's two modes when it comes to Gu Yun:

Could stay single all his life if he could just stay by Gu Yun's side forever, protect him, cherish him, stare at his sharp profile all day long
