So it turns out that the underground MMA fight club and the Dixing bar are just two redresses of the same space. They even leave a lot of the ropes and barrels behind when they switch from one to the other, which, sure, why not?
I know it's kind of hard to see with only these shots, but here's a shot of what I'm pretty sure is both these spaces, stripped down to bare bones as the Ming flour factory in the Disguiser:
We never see the MMA arena connect to the outside world, but we do see the Dixing bar's entrance, which is absolutely the entrance to the flour factory (and which I don't have a non-spoilery image of in the Disguiser, but trust me on this one).
(Which is also the location where they are that one time Chu Shuzhi and Guo Changcheng are wandering around Dixing, except that it looks absolutely nothing like the rest of Dixing.)
These locations also both have the chest-high green paint on the otherwise grey wall, which is a lot less visible in Dixing (because there's a ton of crap all over the walls), but still there.
I guess this goes a long way toward explaining why the MMA fight club has a fully stocked bar. I'm pretty sure the main part of the bar and the bottom shelf on the backpiece are the same, just repainted. The top part is clearly totally different, though, and the MMA bar has very rounded corners, while the Dixing bar has sharp right angles.
I made the terrible mistake of realizing this right before I was going to go to bed, which meant that instead of being sleepy, I got myself all fired up and had to post about it. Okay, good-night.
(Hi, friends! In the last year and a half, I've watched a lot more shows filmed in Dragon City Shanghai Film Park, so it may be time to comb through my Guardian screenshots and look for more repeating locations like this. I'll let you know if I find anything good!)

highlights from ruth buscombe's podcast interview (or, views from a strategist baddie on the track)
listened to the ruth buscombe - the former ferrari, haas and sauber strategist - pitstop podcast over lunch and intended to make only a few notes, but she’s so sharp and funny that i ended up scribbling loads. anyway, enjoy:
youtube
ruth’s on gardening leave atm (hasn’t said where she’s going yet. peep the quadrant hoodie tho...). they have long gardening leave because strategists and engineers have so much proprietary info on the cars, they’re usually allowed at least a year to wait it out so they don’t (in theory) bring the intel with them
ruth worked with the FIA to build and simulate where the DRS zones should be because DRS used to be a free for all across the whole track. crazy to imagine huh
on planning for a race vs being reactive: if other teams make a “wrong” strategy in a race or something unexpected like change their number of pitstops, you’d have to be fluid in responding to that or it fucks your race too. she used daniel in shanghai (?) one year as an example
ruth was with seb for his first ferrari win!! legend. there were a number of personnel changes when he arrived and then she was “left holding the strategy baby [for that race] and i was like — okay!” lol. “this was after 2014 a winless season and you don’t want that because you bring shame upon the whole of italy”. aksjsksks.
kinda wild tho. ruth called for the two stop in sepang that resulted in seb’s race win and was 25 when this happened. making the calls like that is so impressive
on vegas: the maths of poker is the same as the maths of strategy (what!!!!! incredible)
she worked with charles and says he’s a very genuine guy, and very talented obviously
they ask her about the lewis ferrari signing and she drops the lore that lewis had actually been in talks with them ages ago, before the merc era. “maybe this [urge] has always been there”.
she was a DIEHARD mclaren fan and went to the ferrari job interview as practice but ended up saying yes to ferrari 💀💀 “ferrari carbed and ice creamed their way to my heart. and they showed me the factory bits you don’t normally see” she’s so real. “i went to ferrari for the interview and then mclaren. like the old grey mclaren not the cool one now. people thought something was wrong with me cus i grew up loving mclaren and then i was going to work at ferrari” AHHAHAKSKSKKSKS
kind of hilariously, she gets motion sickness from watching and monitoring the sim side of the engineering, which is kinda why she switched to the strategy side. the switch happened after one of the races with nando and massa, she proposed unsealing a gearbox on one of the cars, a legal thing, and it got the team a good result so that was history
she thinks max will win based on pace advantage this year cus of the braking evolution this year
2026 is gonna be a huge change in the reg cus of the power unit
all the sacrifice is for race day because it’s such a punishing career travel and time-wise. “if you do not see pressure as a privilege this is probably not the job for you”
on diversity: there’s a study from before liberty media’s takeover that said “the average f1 fan is a 53 year old white male blue collar worker who lived in coventry”. and now there’s a much wider range of fans. and also directly references lewis’s mission 44 as helping to broaden reach.
“drivers are like children. you cannot say who’s your favourite child otherwise you cause like, years of therapy. even if you like one child better than the other you should never say” HELP HAHAH
she troubleshooted a (sauber?) race during one of her first races, there was nothing was loading on the pit wall screens. she’s furiously checking the backend. lights out and they had no numbers. then “the lord sent me an aborted start”. turns out it was a timezone setting issue in the computers. crazy stuff. they ended up going from the back to p6 (!!)
on joining the career ladder as a strategist: there is no strategy school so it’s about learning skills you need to do the job. e.g. doing a maths or computing degree etc. she did the formula student challenge when they build a f1 car
random but: “the first time ross brawn sent me an email i printed it out. best. day. of my life.” 😂
on strategy calls and being able to adapt for different tracks: “as a strategist you do not want to be a one trick pony. you want like. a whole field of ponies”
(the end. loved her perspective. hope we get more in the future!! the whole thing is 100% worth listening to if you have the time.)

SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 70 PN BELOW Lets fucking go cap! ok it’s the weekend, I have my own writing block and I finally finished my fucking assignments and handed them in, I’m practically free forever!! (exams loom in the distance, i willfully ignore their shadow)
I’ve started by reading from chapter 67 just to bring myself back into the mindset (and because they are hype as all hell chapters), this is faster than starting my like 7th re-read.
I even made myself a cuppa to really settle in, the vibes are immaculate, I played Bizet Carmen while reading this time
The dichotomy of Juleka:
I don't want to hurt anyone!
Extreme violence is efficient.
The fact that we didn’t get ladybug trying to kiss rena when she was shot by dark cupid is tragic
This time i listened to shoot to thrill by ACDC, and Burn it down by awolnation for the badass parts
Anyway finally onto Fei, that only took me two hours (i briefly wrote shit so yknow, a good time!)
Fei’s tragic backstory be upsetting frfr, Like damn brother you watched your dad die in front of you? Do you need a blanket and a hug?
The tone change from “My life ended when my dad died.” to “summer was awesome!!” made me snort horrible it’s not funny- but it kind of is-
Oh my god Juleka got a break for weeks AND WE DIDN’T GET TO SEE IT??? Tragedy. (i’m kidding, so happy that she got a break <33)
Rose thirsting over Panthera in a crop top is too funny- you just know if it was anyone else Juleka would be pouting like “damn what do they have that I don’t?”
Oop her hands still kinda fucked, curiouser and curiouser. I wonder if she has tried to practice her secondary power. Which rq, it was SUCH bullshit that LB gets two and the cat miraculous gets one in canon, so happy you retconned it
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OH MY GOD OK CAP I AM SO HYPE HYPE SHE GOT A MODELING INTERNSHIP?????? Like sure cause nepotism but i’ve been wanting to see Juleka try out modeling in a real environment for ages cause like thats something she is interested in yknow and i just-
Augh, hype as hell. And an excellent reason for her to be going to Shanghai, I applaud your problem solving to fit Juleka into the show's narrative! I applaud it always, but this one was more difficult than usual methinks
I have pizza now it is 8pm
Anyways; NOO GABEY BABY DON’T BE EVIL VIBES TO JULEKA SHE’S JUST A LITTLE THING
Oh my poor awkward Juleka… Gabriel wasn’t helping but this is so funny, dude you vowed to kill this girl like a month ago open your eyes
I NEED juleka’s modeling arc to be a thing. Idk how into detail you went but i’m hoping for some i’m rabid i’ve been waiting for this for like 3 years
Oh airports SUCK i feel her anxiety so much, poor thing… i forced my friend to share her location with me one time so we could stalk each other, we never turned it off its kinda funny
… why is Anarka banned from airports?? Being “a living weapon” is so vague.
Killing myself rose and juleka are so cute- and obsessed with each other- every hour is insane
I love Juleka instantly becoming a disaster on baby’s first flight
Juleka instantly being on high alert around gabriel is so real.
“Right,” Mr Agreste’s face didn’t twitch nor soften much in response, just nodded in understanding and turned back to stare forward. “The opening of this store is essential to the future of the Agreste Brand, you two. Opening it much sooner is very good news. There will be other fun times with your friends.”
Hardass, fuck off!!
Poker with literal chips made me laugh- adrien would be terrible at poker
Spiderman far from home? Nah, Panthera Noir far from home.
“Oh that building looked fun to climb.” please Juleka unhinged parkour arc when?? Like people turn away from her and then look back and she’s up a tree.
HELP “bye bye bag” is so real-
She’s so scary, but I wanna ask what her hair dye is. Do it. Please. I think you would factory reset Nathalie and she would answer on autopilot
Awkwardly playing chess is so real, also; yippee!! Adrien and Juleka bonding even more after the acting debacle!!
“Knights were cute. Little pony’s. Rose always wanted to move her knights cause they reminded her of unicorns.” please this is literally my strategy in chess, i just move them around and sometimes i win because i confuse people so badly
LB overthinking chess is hilarious.
Adrien POV???
YOU CAN LEARN MANY THINGS FROM JULEKA SUCH; HOW TO BE A CAT. sorry i just had the mad idea that Adrien might find out this chapter… i would go insane if that turned out to be right
“Knowing info about me is pretty easy when your Wikipedia is super detailed” that’s fucking depressing. Adrien baby that’s a terrible way to get to know someone and not the same experience at all-
Gaelic is a real language!! And a bitch to learn- I briefly tried with my dad and we both gave up, we’ll just stick with scots english
“Where do you disappear during akumas?” hard hitting question Adrien, ten points!
And is also making me high key suspicious about him finding out, the vibes are there
Nah, nah evil. Gabriel spend time with your son goddamnit
GET HIS ASS JULEKA YES GIRL I LOVE YOU
The fact that she thinks she isn’t brave sometimes infuriates me, like babe i get your insecure but your brave as hell.
QUEEN SHIT JUST WENT DOWN THERE
Juleka ripped him to shreds hell fucking yeah.
Wait. why did she give him the king? Hawkmoth called himself a king… cue the x-files music
Who the fuck is this asshole? Fei. Kick his ass, i command thee.
Oh curious, she has burn scars from the fire, i like this detail.
I feel like Fei and Juleka will get along, based on the ever present rage against one guy
She is being used augh
“Your father deserves to be avanged.”
“He does.” UMM GIRL YOUR DAD WOULD HATE THAT WEREN’T YOU THERE FOR THE FLASHBACK??
I want Cash to gtbnrvice this asshole is just using her desperation for information-
I want Juleka to scare him into telling them, as Panthera, i think she would be quite good at that.
Juleka is a feral beast who needs her outside time (i like how she wants to run on rooftops a lot its cute)
LORE LORE LORE LORE
Excited. The prodigious?? Tell me more silly cheese guy
Ummm. i need the prodigious to show up, i can’t remember if thats what Fei has or if this is future future foreshadowing, this is exciting
New arc unlocked: freeing the Kwami from their jewelery or the curse.
Also; yes sadistic plagg in the face of the guardians temple being destroyed, you go girl
Guardian temple? Swallowed whole? Sounds frightening. What a feast. HA
Model Juleka yippee!
Help- adrien your advice is trash-
Ok existential conversation, yes girl let me spiral-
No sick girl Nathalie let adrien speak i want to know what he thinks of the best girlies-
Plagg wanting to take him under his wing- Juleka saying he wants to replace her with Adrien- ITS ALL COMING TOGETHER.
Nah if you actually do have a reveal to Adrien i am going to go buckwild- cause either the vibes of the chapter got me but i think I guessed before any of the concrete foreshadowing
Ok sick girl nathalie actually has some sound advice and is being lovely to Juleka
Yes Juleka use your strength
FEI STEALING CAMERAS??
Get her ass Juleka, or- politely bite her arm juleka?!?
Juleka is just brawling in an alleyway- like damn sister- watch out for bruises you might not be allowed to model-
Oh god what if she took plagg during some of their scrapping- actually, that would be fine. Juleka would just go insane and fight her
Juleka; desperately grasping for something familiar and bantering with Fei
Fei: what the fuck is wrong with her?
Nicest mugger I’ve ever met real and true
Wait
NOO JULEKA THEY WON’T LET YOU MODEL LIKE THIS
YEAH KICK. HER. ASS.
Plagg stays with Juleka yippeee!!
Help their dynamic is so funny- exactly what i was wanting.
Juleka would want to learn how to disappear even better than she already does wouldn’t she
Nah not Fei thinking “well that was fucking weird” while juleka is like “Oh that was cool” Juleka is so weirdgirl core i love her
Oh shit she stole marinettes stuff Tiki is there-
Kick the asshole in the balls Fei, i command thee.
I am so happy Nathalie and Juleka have some sort of alliance, in my as to be written huge tragedy based on Nathalie Gabriel and Emily (which is extensively planned), I think Nathalie is more similar to Juleka as a teenager.
Adrien and Nathalie interaction- “yes we- we did it” agyuhtvrinjfeok love her.
Marinette blinked vacantly, standing in the back alley streets of Shanghai with a paling expression on her face and her entire inventory ghosted from her person.
WHERE THE HELL AM I!?
HELP SHE’S SO FUNNY- i love disaster marinette please-
and thats a wrap for Fei! i started this before five and it is now ten pm- i did other things though.
this was awesome cap, I look forward to the next chapters and I shall review them tomorrow!!!!!!
I hope you enjoyed <3
GLAD YOU ENJOYED!!!!!!

The History Of Replica Watches
The Origin of Replica Watches
Replica watches, as the name suggests, are copies of world-famous watch brands (such as Rolex, Omega, IWC, Panerai, etc.). They are produced using molds taken from the original models, with an appearance identical to the authentic versions. The term "high-quality replica watch" first emerged in China at the end of the 1980s. When the national watch industry was established, to consolidate its own watchmaking influence, China imported more than a hundred thousand sets of watchmaking equipment from Switzerland. For the sake of overall harmony, it is estimated that this equipment was distributed among Shanghai, Tianjin, and Guangdong. The former two have become what are now the Shanghai Watch Factory and the Seagull Watch Factory, while Guangdong has become the largest site for watch parts assembly. It was against this backdrop that high-quality replica watches slowly emerged. In 2013, NOOB Factory's replica watches, known as the "five great pieces", soared in popularity and kicked off the era of high-quality replica watches! To this day, Guangzhou's replica watch market attracts traders from all over the world on a daily basis, with trade covering the globe. Modern high-quality replica watches now widely use domestic movements that imitate ETA movements, and the quality of these movements is quite impressive. They also perform exceptionally well in terms of accuracy.
Some watch enthusiasts who love Swiss luxury watches used to disdain replica watches, viewing them as nothing more than cheap knock-offs with poor workmanship and quality. However, once they actually encounter the replica watches from major factories like N Factory, ZF Factory, and KW Factory, they realize that even though these watches may only cost around 2,000 yuan, their craftsmanship, water resistance, luminous effects, and other features can far exceed those of Swiss luxury watches that cost over ten thousand yuan. This is why high-quality replica watches have always been bestsellers overseas.
The Two Major Bases of High-Quality Replica Watches
1. Taiwanese High-Quality Replica Watches
Taiwan is the pioneer of the replica watch industry. Whether it's replicating electronic products or Swiss luxury watches, its technology can be considered world-class. While creating numerous billionaires, it has also given rise to many new stars in the field of high-quality replica watches. Neighboring Taiwan, Fujian was among the first to establish the replica watch industry in the Pearl River Delta, operated by people from Fujian. Due to Taiwan's legal system, the official crackdown on high-quality replica watches has become increasingly stringent, leading to a gradual shrinking of Taiwan's replica watch market, which is difficult to return to its former glory.
2. Guangzhou High-Quality Replica Watches
Currently, China's replica watch market is mainly concentrated in the Zhanxi watch market in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. After twenty years of development, there are no less than a hundred replica watch factories, focusing more on quantity than on quality. Since most of their orders come from undeveloped regions overseas, with virtually no after-sales issues, these watches cannot match the quality of Taiwanese replicas. However, in terms of watch movements, these factories have produced an uncountable number of them. Well-known domestic mechanical watch movement manufacturers include the Hangzhou Watch Factory, Tianjin Watch Factory, and Guangzhou Watch Factory. The movements made by the Guangzhou Watch Factory, known as Mingzhu movements, are commonly used in ordinary high-quality replica watches. Currently, there are many watch factories on the mainland, and any reputable manufacturer has its standout products, all of which are sources of high-quality replica watches, such as N, H, ZF, KW, TF, BP, MK, JF, V6, etc. As part of a grey industry, the replica watch market is full of mixed quality, and it's very chaotic. For instance, Factory N and Factory H might share the same case manufacturer... Each manufacturer has its own models they excel at, such as Factory N's Fifty Fathoms and the Master Compressor.
What Are High-Quality Replica Watches
Appearance High-quality replica watches are modeled directly after authentic products, made to the same proportions, and typically achieve a 1:1 ratio in comparison to the originals. The materials often used include 316L stainless steel, and some high-end replicas have started utilizing 904L stainless steel for increased comfort, virtually indistinguishable from the genuine article. In terms of polishing and the finer details, replicas can now match the original watches without discernible differences.
Movement As is well-known, the heart of any watch lies in its movement. Since domestic mechanical watch movements can only perform basic timekeeping functions and have yet to achieve the more complex chronograph functions, replica watches opt to use Swiss mechanical movements. However, Swiss luxury watch manufacturers have their own unique processes for creating movements, which they use exclusively and in limited quantities. These movements are not available for purchase by others to create replicas. Consequently, replicas now extensively utilize domestic movements that imitate ETA movements, and these movements are of quite high quality, performing impressively in terms of accuracy. Common imitations include ETA 2824, 2836, and 2892 movements, particularly the 2836 is often used in Rolex replicas.
Price In the replica watch industry, pricing is primarily determined by the movement utilized. As mentioned, replica watches largely use domestic movements modeled after ETA's 2824, 2836, and 2892, among others. Watches priced between 1,000 and 2,500 yuan usually feature something like the Seagull imitation of the 2892 movement, which, in terms of finishing and appearance, closely resembles the real ETA 2892. This type of movement is often used in ultra-thin watch models. Models ranging from 1,500 to 3,000 yuan typically incorporate chronograph functions using movements from Shanghai or Dandong watch factories, imitative of the ETA 7750 series. Fiyta's aviation series and Rossini's chronograph watches, for example, utilize the 7750 movement produced in Shanghai. Watches with manual winding often employ movements from Hangzhou or Seagull factories, modeled after the ETA 6497, and are used in replicas of brands like Panerai, with accuracy comparable to the real ETA movements found in authentic Panerai watches. Prices generally range from 3,000 to 6,000 yuan, with many featuring tourbillons. The tourbillon movements used in high-quality replicas are typically from Dandong and Beijing, although arguably the best domestic tourbillons are produced by Seagull. However, due to their higher price, they are less commonly used by replica watch manufacturers.
Wearing High-Quality Replica Watches
High-quality replica watches can now emulate the functions of the original models, so correct usage and maintenance during wear are extremely important.
Water resistance depths of 30M and 50M do not mean that the watch can be submerged 30 or 50 meters underwater without allowing water in. The 30M and 50M ratings are for everyday life water resistance only, and these watches should not be worn while swimming.
General water-resistant replica watches are not intended for swimming or diving. Although they use sealing measures that prevent splashes and everyday sweat from entering, they should not be submerged in water. In real life, constant temperature and immobility do not exist. Therefore, wrist activities in water can significantly increase water pressure on the watch and, based on the principle of thermal expansion and contraction, the watch case may expand and allow vapor to enter the movement through the gaps and then condense into droplets. Over time, the movement could rust.
Leather straps, whether made of cowhide or alligator leather, have a lifespan. Generally, they should be replaced after two to three years of wear. During daily wear, try to avoid contact with chemicals and corrosive substances such as acids, alkalis, and salts to prevent damage to the appearance of the watch, affecting its look and use.
It is best not to wear the watch while engaging in outdoor sports. High-speed vibrations at the wrist can damage the movement of the watch. The anti-magnetic capabilities of general mechanical watches are limited, and if exceeded, the steel components within the watch can become magnetized. The hairspring may also be affected, leading to inaccuracies in the timekeeping, either running slow or fast, and in severe cases, the watch may stop altogether.
If a mechanical watch is not worn for an extended period, it should still be wound regularly.
Mechanical watches inherently have errors, and these are larger than the errors in quartz watches. If you absolutely cannot tolerate inaccuracies, consider purchasing a quartz or digital watch.
Calendar watches cannot use the quick-set mechanism to change the date during a certain period, known as the "forbidden zone". During this time, the date changing gear teeth are aligned with the gap on the calendar disc, and using the quick-set feature can obstruct the rotation of the calendar disc, potentially damaging the components. Therefore, do not use the quick-set date adjustment during the "forbidden zone". Do not adjust the calendar of the watch between 10 pm and 2 am as this can possibly damage the movement if done repeatedly.
If wearing a watch with a leather strap style, it's better to have an additional nylon weave or rubber strap for summer wear. Sweat can cause significant damage to leather straps due to the increased likelihood of perspiration in the summer.
Purchasing High-Quality Replica Watches
Due to the unique nature of the high-quality replica watch industry, sales are primarily conducted online, as it is not feasible to open physical stores and offer public sales. Currently, the NOOB factory is highly recommended among replica watch manufacturers, so many dealers name their replica watches after the NOOB factory. There are innumerable websites selling replica watches, and online you can find sites such as the "N Factory Official Website," "N Factory Flagship Store," and various sites claiming to be associated with the NOOB factory, leading to a lot of confusion. It makes it quite difficult for an end buyer to discern where to purchase.
Online, the term "N Factory" initially referred exclusively to the NOOB factory, but it has now become a synonym for all high-end replica watches. The so-called official websites for replica watches are actually just gimmicks aimed at attracting customers. Many NOOB factory models have ceased production, and the currently available noob watches include popular Rolex models like Submariner, Sea-Dweller, Datejust, Oyster Perpetual, Daytona, Yacht-Master, and a limited number of Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and a few niche brands. It's unrealistic to sell only NOOB factory products. Websites typically named after the NOOB factory or N factory generally focus on NOOB factory products, supported by other major factory goods, and our website is no exception.
Our website is a replica watch dealer platform that directly cooperates with the NOOB factory, mainly used to stabilize market prices and release new models, but in the past two years, it has also collaborated with other factories. Watches on our site are straightforward, with clear categories, full range of styles, and you can find almost all major factory products here, which is convenient and reliable. The pricing is also reasonable, ensuring that customers won't be deceived. Everyone is welcome to visit and learn more.
Lastly, a few words from the heart: one should maintain a good mindset when buying high-quality replica watches. It can be said that particularly with mechanical watches, you should be prepared for the possibility of issues, and this is true even for authentic models. Although the replica watch industry may not be highly reputable, a lot of effort is put in. Do not underestimate a high-quality replica watch—the processes involved are nearly as extensive as those for the original, making the replica industry quite challenging.

Two-Film Essay: Similarities Between Ju Dou (1990) and Blue Velvet (1986)
By Rachel Powers

The film Ju Dou, directed by Zhang Yimou, was released in China in April 1990, followed by a U.S. release in September of the same year. The film is based on the short story “Fuxi Fuxi” written by Liu Heng.
youtube
Ju Dou stars Gong Li as the main character Ju Dou. Zhang Yimou had previously cast Gong Li in Red Sorghum (1987) and Codename Cougar (1989) and would continue to cast her in future films such as Raise the Red Lantern (1991), The Story of Qiu Ju (1992), To Live (1994), Shanghai Triad (1995), Curse of the Golden Flower (2006) and Coming Home (2014). Gong Li and Zhang Yimou’s relationship was not simply a professional one. Zhang Yimou was married and had an affair with Gong Li, ultimately leaving his wife for her. They were a couple during many of their film collaborations up to 1995.
The story of Ju Dou takes place in rural China in the early 20th century. Most of the film takes place inside the residence and fabric dye facility owned by Yang Jinsan. Jinsan lives there with his adopted 40-year-old nephew, Yang Tianqing. Jinsan previously had two wives whom he beat to death because they failed to bear him children. In a third attempt at marriage and an heir, Jinsan purchases a new wife, Ju Dou.
Upon Ju Dou’s arrival, Jinsan promptly resumes his history of abuse on his new wife. Tianqing watches from afar, clearly upset by what is going on. Ju Dou notices him watching, and the two begin to fall for each other. The two begin a secret affair, and Ju Dou gets pregnant. Their child Tianbai is passed off as Jinsan’s, although Tianqing is the biological father.

The affair doesn’t remain secret for long, at least not from Jinsan. Jinsan suffers an accident and becomes paralyzed from the waist down. Ju Dou and Tianqing take on the responsibility of caring for Jinsan, but as he is unable to abuse Ju Dou, they no longer need to hide their relationship from him. In fact, they flaunt it and let him know that he is not Tianbai’s real father. They treat Jinsan quite badly during this time in a sort of revenge for what he had put Ju Dou through. To the outside world, this remains a secret.
Jinsan becomes resentful of everyone and everything, including the child Tianbai who he tries to kill unsuccessfully. Jinsan also attempts to burn down the facility, but is caught and the fire is put out by Ju Dou and Tianqing.
A few years later, Tianbai speaks for the first time, calling Jinsan his father. Jinsan is thrilled at this new connection with Tianbai, and especially happy that he has gained sympathy and influence over the child and can use it to drive a wedge between Tianbai, Ju Dou and Tianqing. Unfortunately for him, one day while playing with Tianbai in the dye factory, Tianbai accidentally knocks Jinsan into a vat of red dye. Being paralyzed, Jinsan drowns while Tianbai laughs in the background.
Tianbai grows up to be an angry and resentful teenager, hostile towards his mother Ju Dou but especially towards Tianqing. Jinsan has died, and tradition states that Ju Dou must remain celibate after his death. Instead, she continues her secret relationship with Tianqing. The son, Tianbai, has observed all the events over the years and is aware that this relationship is not normal. Paired with the town gossip regarding the situation, Tianbai grows angrier and angrier. One day, Ju Dou and Tianqing sneak down into a cave to be together, but the lack of oxygen in the cave causes them to pass out. Tianbai discovers the unconscious couple and carries them out of the cave. He brings his mother upstairs to her bedroom but carries Tianqing towards the dye pools. Tianbai throws Tianqing into the very same pool of red dye that Jinsan drowned in years prior, and Tianqing suffers the same fate.

Devastated, Ju Dou burns down the dye factory in an act that strongly resembles Jinsan’s original attempt to do the same years earlier.
The film was well received by critics. Anand A. Yang writes “Brilliantly filmed in vivid splashes of color, the dye factory and its products, richly hued fabrics, make for some spectacular shots. The striking colors also reflect the passion of the lovers, a passion depicted by the sensuality of their lovemaking. Supposedly, it was this intensity of sensuality and eroticism that led the Chinese government in the conservative atmosphere after the 1989 massacre to seek the film's withdrawal as China's official entry in the Academy Awards.”
Anand A. Yang’s review also dives into the symbolism of the cloth in the film, as it takes place in a textile factory. The cloth is dipped in dye and hoisted high up to dry, with nowhere else to go but to fall back down again. “Nothing soars, nothing seemingly can in a China weighed down by its suffocating traditions.”
The social commentary apparent in Ju Dou came into the world less than a year after the Tiananmen Square incident in 1989. Student protests for social and political reform in China resulted in the government declaring martial law. The Chinese army killed hundreds and wounded thousands of protestors in order to suppress their calls for democracy.
Ju Dou was banned in China for the first two years following its release, another example of censorship and control in China at the time. In the United States, Ju Dou was received well with critics.
“The film appealed to me for two reasons. First, because of its unabashed, lurid melodrama, in which the days are filled with scheming and the nights with passion and violence. Second, because of its visual beauty. When the Technicolor company abandoned its classic three-strip process for reproducing color on film, two of its factories were closed down but the third was packed up and sold to China, and that is why the bright colors in the vats of the textile mill will remind you of a brilliance not seen in Hollywood films since the golden age of the MGM musicals. Not that this story would have been very easily set to music.” – Roger Ebert, 1991
The use of Technicolor contributed to the cinematography of the film and influenced it’s style, look and feel.

Comparison to Blue Velvet (1986)
Both Zhang Yimou and David Lynch cast lead actors that they had worked with previously and would continue to cast in their future works. Zhang Yimou and Gong Li have a long history of collaboration. David Lynch and Kyle MacLachlan also worked together on many of Lynch’s works besides Blue Velvet, such as Dune and Twin Peaks.
Similarly, the women in each film take on some of the same characteristics as their abusers. Ju Dou, the abused, ends up abusing her abuser and ultimately burns down the dye factory as Jinsan had attempted to do previously. In Blue Velvet, Dorothy Valens repeats her abuser’s words “don’t look at me” and controls Jeffery at knifepoint.
Differently, Ju Dou is more of a product of its time and history than Blue Velvet. The social commentary and historical context are fundamental to the story of Ju Dou, whereas Blue Velvet is not deeply rooted or connected to any one historic event.

Top Technology Trends Shaping Businesses in 2025
Introduction: The Heartbeat of a New Era

It’s a crisp morning in Seattle, and Maria, a dreamer with a startup, sits in her favorite coffee shop, her laptop glowing with insights from an AI that’s practically her business partner. Across the world, in a humming factory in Shanghai, Li grins as a digital version of his production line tweaks itself, saving him a headache and a fortune. In London, a boutique owner named Emma watches customers light up, trying on virtual dresses through augmented reality. This is 2025, where tech isn’t just a tool — it’s the spark that keeps businesses alive and kicking.
The world’s moving fast, and if you’re running a business, standing still isn’t an option. You’ve got to ride the wave or get left behind. The Global Impact Award (GIA) gets it — they celebrate the bold, the innovators who turn tech into magic, earning spots in business awards tech award and the global impact award entrepreneur award. Let’s dive into the tech trends that’ll make 2025 a game-changer, told through stories of real people making it happen.
Artificial Intelligence 2.0: Your Brainy Best Friend

AI’s like that friend who’s always one step ahead. In 2025, it’s writing ad copy, coding apps, even sorting through resumes faster than you can say “coffee break.” At Adobe, designers like Priya are churning out campaigns 40% quicker thanks to generative AI. And over at Amazon, Sarah’s using predictive AI to keep shelves stocked just right, cutting waste by a cool 25% since 2020.
But here’s the thing — AI’s got to play nice. Ethics are huge now, and the Global Impact Award loves companies that keep it real. Salesforce, for instance, has an AI rulebook to keep their algorithms fair, which is why they’re in the running for business awards tech award. AI 2.0 means smarter moves, lower costs, and customers who feel like you’re reading their mind — but only if you do it right.
Story: MediSynth, a tiny healthcare startup, used AI to whip up patient guides in every language under the sun, making patients 30% more likely to stick to their meds. Their heart-and-soul approach to AI landed them a global impact award entrepreneur award, showing you can do good and still win big.
Quantum Computing: The Future’s Secret Weapon
Quantum computing sounds like something out of a sci-fi flick, but in 2025, it’s starting to steal the show. Big players like IBM and Google are making quantum systems that tackle problems too wild for regular computers. Picture Pfizer’s scientists, like Dr. Chen, using quantum tech to shave years off drug development — 20% faster, saving lives and cash.
The Global Impact Award is all over this, cheering on quantum trailblazers for their global splash. It’s not cheap, and finding quantum whizzes is like hunting for unicorns, but companies jumping in now are setting themselves up for business awards tech award glory.
Story: QuantumFreight, a scrappy logistics crew, used quantum tricks to rethink their delivery routes, saving 15% on fuel. That’s good for their wallet and the planet, earning them a nod for best business travel awards global recognition. Who knew quantum could make trucks so cool?
Hyperautomation: Work That Feels Like Magic
Imagine a workplace where all the boring stuff — paperwork, inventory, scheduling — happens like magic. That’s hyperautomation in 2025, mixing AI, robotic process automation, and tools that let anyone build apps. UiPath says it’s saving companies 30% on costs while making work feel like a breeze.
The best part? Even non-techies like Jamal, a store manager, can drag-and-drop their way to a custom app for tracking stock. It’s empowering, and the Global Impact Award gives props to companies making tech accessible, a big reason for business awards tech award love.
Story: ShopSmart, a family-run retailer, used hyperautomation to get goods to stores 25% faster. Their hustle paid off with a business awards tech award, proving you don’t need to be a tech giant to shine.
Cybersecurity: Keeping the Bad Guys Out
In a world where everything’s online, cybersecurity’s like locking your front door in a stormy neighborhood. In 2025, AI-powered systems are catching hackers in real-time — IBM says they’re 50% faster at stopping breaches. Zero Trust, where nobody gets a free pass, is the new normal, especially for remote workers like Aisha. Blockchain-based IDs let folks like her control their data, no middleman needed.
The Global Impact Award celebrates these trust-builders, a must for business awards tech award nods. But hackers don’t sleep, and rules keep getting stricter. Nail cybersecurity, and you’ll keep customers happy and disasters at bay.
Story: SecurePay, a fintech startup, rolled out Zero Trust and blockchain IDs, slashing fraud by 40%. Their trust-first vibe earned them a global impact award entrepreneur award, proving safety is sexy.
Extended Reality (XR): Where Dreams Meet Reality
Ever walked through a virtual office or tried on a jacket without leaving your couch? That’s extended reality (XR) in 2025, blending augmented and virtual reality to shake up work and shopping. Walmart’s training new hires with VR, making them 15% more likely to stick around. Virtual boardrooms — the “enterprise metaverse” — are popping up, with 20% of big companies giving it a whirl, per Gartner.
The Global Impact Award loves XR for bringing people together, a big win for best business travel awards global recognition. Headsets aren’t cheap, and not everyone’s on board yet, but XR’s changing how we learn and connect.
Story: WanderVR, a travel agency, lets customers “visit” beaches and cities via AR, boosting bookings by 35%. Their creativity scored a best business travel awards global recognition nod, showing XR can take you anywhere.
Green Tech: Saving the Planet, One Step at a Time

Going green isn’t just nice — it’s a must. In 2025, smart grids and eco-friendly AI are stealing the show. Google’s data centers, now carbon-neutral, cut emissions by 30% since 2020. With 60% of bosses prioritizing ESG, per Capgemini, green tech’s your ticket to staying legit and winning hearts.
The Global Impact Award cheers on these planet-savers, a key part of business awards tech award criteria. Going green takes cash and heart, but it pays off in savings and street cred.
Story: EcoFreight, a logistics crew, switched to smart grids, cutting energy costs by 20%. Their green hustle landed them a global impact award entrepreneur award, proving you can save the planet and your bottom line.
Edge Computing & 5G: Fast Lane to the Future
Edge computing and 5G are like giving your business a sports car. In 2025, factories use edge tech to spot machine issues before they crash, saving 25% on downtime, says Deloitte. 5G’s speed lets customer service reps like Carlos solve problems 40% faster, per Verizon.
The Global Impact Award loves this hustle, a big deal for business awards tech award hopefuls. Building the tech isn’t cheap, but the speed and happy customers are worth every penny.
Story: SmartForge, a manufacturer, used edge computing to nail quality control, boosting output by 15%. Their speed earned them a business awards tech award, showing fast is fabulous.
Blockchain: Trust You Can Touch
Blockchain’s not just for crypto fans anymore. In 2025, smart contracts are smoothing out supply chains and finance, with 30% of global supply chains on board, says Gartner. Tokenizing stuff like real estate is hot, with $2 trillion in play by 2030.
The Global Impact Award celebrates blockchain for building trust, a must for global impact award entrepreneur award nods. Scaling it’s tough, but the clarity and efficiency are pure gold.
Story: TrustChain, a supply chain outfit, used smart contracts to cut disputes by 50%. Their trust game earned them a business awards tech award, showing blockchain’s the real deal.
Human-Machine Collaboration: Better Together
AI co-pilots and digital twins are like having a genius buddy at work. In 2025, emotional AI helps call centers like Maya’s read customer vibes, with 45% adoption, says Salesforce. Digital twins let companies like Siemens simulate factories, saving 20% on costs.
The Global Impact Award loves this teamwork, a big part of global impact award entrepreneur award criteria. It’s about making work awesome, not replacing it.
Story: BrainTrust, a consultancy, used AI co-pilots to speed up client analytics by 30%. Their teamwork scored a business awards tech award, proving humans and machines are a dream team.
Tech-Driven Business Models: New Ways to Shine

Forget old-school cash flow — 2025’s about subscriptions and AI-as-a-service. IDC says 40% of SaaS companies are jumping on the AI train. Digital twins of organizations let firms like McKinsey predict markets 15% better.
The Global Impact Award loves these bold moves, a key for best business travel awards global recognition. They’re about staying quick, flexible, and ready for anything.

Their focus on design, materials, and customization means you get furniture that looks good and fits your life perfectly.

Oppein offers a closet for every type of space, with each option bringing unique strengths:
Walk-In Closets: These are ideal for people who want a dedicated dressing space. Walk-ins can include built-in lighting, islands, open shelves, and display areas. Oppein designs allow you to separate clothes by season, style, or family member and add personal touches like glass doors or decorative shelving.
Fitted Wardrobes: If you’re working with limited space or want storage along one wall, fitted wardrobes are a smart choice. They’re custom-built for your room’s exact measurements, fitting from floor to ceiling—even around corners or sloped ceilings. This style makes use of every inch and often comes with hinged or sliding doors to match your decor.
Modular Closets: For flexibility, modular systems shine. You can start small and add more units later. Modular closets work well for rental apartments, kids’ rooms, or anyone who may want to rearrange storage as needs change. They’re available in open and closed configurations, letting you display favorite pieces or keep clutter out of sight.
Open Systems: Prefer easy access or a display-friendly setup? Oppein’s open wardrobes and closet solutions keep everything in reach. These suit minimalist spaces and make a bedroom feel more open and modern.

Design & 3D Visualization: Next comes the fun part—your personal design. Oppein uses advanced 3D tools so you can see exactly how your closet will look and function before ordering. You can test out finishes, layouts, handles, and lighting, all on your computer or tablet.
Material and Finish Selection: Choose from dozens of colors, textures, and finishes. Common materials include:
Solid Wood: For warmth, durability, and a classic look.
High-Quality MDF & Particle Board: Ideal for sleek, modern surfaces and affordable customization.
Acrylic Panels: For glossy, ultra-modern finishes that resist scratches and fading.
Premium Laminates & Lacquers: Wide variety of textures, matte or gloss options, and wood patterns.
Eco-Friendly Options: Many materials meet global green standards, making them better for your home and the planet.
Automated Production: Once you approve your design, Oppein’s high-tech factories use automated machinery for precise cutting and finishing. This keeps quality high and ensures your closet matches your 3D model.
Packaging & Delivery: Pieces are carefully packed and shipped to protect surfaces and ensure smooth assembly.
On-site Installation: Trained installers handle everything, from assembly to final adjustments. They make sure shelves, rails, and finishes line up just right. If changes are needed, support is available.
What makes Oppein’s process stand out is how personal it feels, despite their large scale. Every project, from a single wardrobe to a whole-home solution, is tailored for each customer. You get a closet that matches your taste and lifestyle—not a generic, out-of-the-box product.
Oppein’s vast array of finish options, from soft pastels to deep wood grains and glossy whites, lets you design something that blends in or stands out. With trusted materials like solid wood and acrylic, and a seamless design-to-installation journey, your closet becomes a statement of style and smart living.
User Experience and Customer Feedback
Oppein closets are a big choice, so it’s natural to wonder how real customers feel once the system is installed in their homes. Reviews, testimonials, and feedback can shine a spotlight on what to expect day-to-day—inside the showroom and after delivery. Here’s what comes up most in verified customer experiences and what you can do for the smoothest project possible.
Pros and Cons of Choosing Oppein Closets
Customer reviews often reveal the honest highs and lows of working with a major custom closet provider. Here’s a balanced look at what people love and what sometimes falls short with Oppein.
Pros
Most customers highlight these advantages:
Quality Materials: People consistently praise the natural look and durability of Oppein’s wood veneer, matte, and glossy lacquer finishes. The cabinets and closet units feel sturdy and professional, with a fit and finish that rivals or beats big domestic brands.
Design Flexibility: Reviewers enjoy the level of customization, noting the value of Oppein’s 3D virtual preview and the ability to choose everything—from shelf layouts and finishes to hardware and lighting. The option to see a realistic digital model before ordering gets high marks for reducing surprises.
Competitive Pricing: Many buyers mention better value compared to local high-end brands. You get access to premium looks and features without the extreme markups, especially for larger or whole-home projects.
Technology and Process: Oppein’s use of digital design tools and automated manufacturing helps people feel confident about accuracy. Quality assurance checks before shipping, plus professional installation teams, add extra comfort. Several reviews call out helpful designers and project managers by name.
Cons
Recurring drawbacks mentioned in feedback include:
Delivery Times: Some customers report longer than expected lead times, especially on larger custom projects. Delays can be weeks or even months if there’s a backlog or shipping hurdles. This is a frequent pain point in mixed or negative reviews.
Communication Gaps: While a lot of buyers had responsive project managers, others found it hard to get timely updates, particularly if something went wrong. A few mention difficulty reaching a supervisor or slow post-sale replies.
Fitment and Measurement Issues: A handful of reviewers describe problems with mismeasurement or installation errors. Sometimes shelves or panels didn’t fit perfectly, or required on-site adjustments, leading to frustration and schedule slips.
After-Sale Support: Several reviews flag hit-or-miss support once the main part of the project is finished. Some clients found getting follow-up help or repairs for minor issues wasn’t as smooth as expected.
Summing up, Oppein scores strong marks for materials, flexibility, value, and design support. However, speed, communication, and after-sale support can vary depending on location, scale, or the local partner you deal with.
Tips for Getting the Best Results with Oppein Closets
Oppein closets can turn any room into an organized showcase, but you’ll get the most from your investment by taking a few key steps during your project. Here’s what experienced customers and designers recommend.
1. Keep Communication Clear and Regular
Always document every request, design change, and agreement by email or in writing. Don’t rely on verbal promises alone.
Stay in touch with your assigned designer or project manager. Don’t hesitate to ask for updates or clarifications if timelines shift.
If you hit a snag and can’t reach your main contact, escalate early via phone or the main customer service portal.
2. Double-Check Measurements and Plans
Insist on a professional home visit for measurement, if available, instead of doing it yourself. Measurement mistakes are one of the biggest sources of fitting problems later.
Review your 3D design carefully, and compare it against the space in your home. Walk through the planned flow—doors opening, shelves at the right heights, enough hanging space. Even a few inches can make or break satisfaction.
Take photos and keep copies of plans and dimensions so everyone has the same reference.
3. Know the Post-Sale Support Process
Before you commit, ask about warranty terms, after-sales support, and who your contact will be for repairs or adjustments.
Get a list of available installation services and clarify if local partners will be involved. Understand what is and isn’t covered once the closet is in.
If anything arrives damaged or doesn’t fit, report it right away (ideally with photos). The quicker you raise an issue, the better the chances of a speedy solution.
4. Plan Your Project Timeline Carefully
Build in extra time for production and shipping, especially if you’re remodeling more than one area.
Ask for a realistic timeline upfront and check what happens if there are delays.
5. Read Up and Compare Experiences
Check reviews and testimonials not just for overall ratings, but for stories involving projects similar to yours (walk-in, built-in, or modular).
Look for patterns—if people in your area mention long lead times, plan accordingly.
Taking these steps helps you stay in control and reduces the risk of a stressful experience. Great organization at the start leads to a smoother installation and a closet you’ll be proud to use every day.
How Oppein Closets Compare to Other Brands
Finding the right closet system means weighing more than just looks and basic layouts. Each brand comes with its own strengths, weaknesses, and price tags. Oppein is part of a crowded field, sharing the market with names like California Closets, IKEA, The Container Store, and Poliform. Let’s break down how Oppein stacks up when it comes to pricing, customization, quality, and service.
Pricing: Value for What You Get
When people shop for a new closet, price is usually the first thing they compare. Oppein closets tend to sit in the mid-range—higher than mass-market retailers like IKEA but less expensive than top luxury brands. Here’s how it shakes out:
IKEA: Generally offers the lowest prices, with basic systems starting under $1,000 for a small setup. Fewer custom details.
The Container Store (Elfa, Avera, Preston): Flexible, with pre-designed kits from $900 to $12,500+, depending on size and options.
Oppein: Sits in the middle. Their price reflects quality materials (wood veneer, lacquer, matte or gloss finishes) and the ability to custom-tailor your space. Larger, fully customized walk-ins will run less than high-end Italian brands but cost more than flat-pack kits.
California Closets / Poliform: Premium pricing. Expect to pay upwards of $175 to $1,800+ per linear foot, and total projects can reach $15,000 or more for bigger installations.
Oppein stands out for offering rich finishes and solid construction at a price closer to mass-market brands. If you want a stylish, tailored system with lots of options, but don’t want to pay luxury prices, Oppein often hits the sweet spot.
Customization: Your Design, Your Way
Customization is where Oppein shines compared to many competitors. Some brands offer basic choices—finish, handle, shelving. Oppein and other top custom brands let you dig deeper. You can plan every shelf, drawer, and accessory to fit your lifestyle.
Oppein: Full 3D design previews, wide range of finishes, dozens of accessory options, and the flexibility to truly tailor each system. They even mimic luxury looks like textured wood or marble, often for less.
California Closets: Known for deep one-on-one consultations and detailed custom work, but at a higher cost and a longer timeline.
The Container Store: Plenty of adjustments and upgrades with mid-range systems like Elfa Decor or Preston, but you’re still working with modular, off-the-shelf parts.
Closets by Design / Inspired Closets: Custom layouts with quick installs, but usually fewer options for materials and finishes compared to Oppein or California Closets.
IKEA: Simple custom sizing and accessories, best for modular designs. You assemble it yourself, so truly odd spaces can be a challenge.
Key takeaway: If you want your closet to fit your unique taste or have unusual needs (like shoe islands, jewelry drawers, or glass doors), Oppein gives you nearly the same flexibility as top-tier brands, but it remains budget friendly for most projects.
Quality: Materials and Craftsmanship
Quality can be hard to judge on looks alone. Cheaper brands often use thin particle board or low-grade finishes that won’t last. Oppein aims to set itself apart by focusing on both visual appeal and build strength.
Oppein: Uses solid wood veneers, thick MDF, durable lacquers, and eco-friendly boards where requested. Most reviews (and third-party rankings) consider their fit and finish a step above American DIY systems, with better edge-banding and solid hardware.
California Closets / Poliform: Premium hardware, custom edge details, thicker panels, and high-end materials. These brands lead the way on craftsmanship—but at a steep price.
IKEA / Modular Closets: Practical but simple. Panel thickness and finish choices are limited. The quality matches the lower price.
The Container Store: Offers three levels of finish (from budget Elfa Classic to high-end Preston) but mostly stays in the middle when it comes to overall durability.
Bottom line: Oppein’s quality usually beats most mass-market options and rivals many American custom brands. You don’t get every luxury detail, but the materials hold up, and customer feedback regularly mentions sturdy drawers and doors.
Service: What Happens Before and After Your Purchase
Service can make or break your experience, especially with custom installation. The bigger the project, the more important clear communication is.
Oppein:
Offers in-person or virtual consultations.
Designers use 3D visualization so you know exactly what your closet will look like before ordering.
Installation is usually handled by trained partners or Oppein’s own teams, but quality varies by location. Some regions get glowing reviews, others report communication gaps and long lead times.
California Closets: Known for their white-glove service from start to finish. Most projects get a single point of contact, professional installs, and great follow-up, but you pay for that premium experience.
The Container Store: DIY options and professional installs available. Service is usually prompt but depends on how much you’d like their team involved. Less hand-holding than the full-custom brands.
IKEA / EasyClosets: DIY only—or you hire your own installer. Support is limited after purchase, though online documentation is decent.
What to expect: With Oppein, your experience depends on local showrooms and partners. If top-level service is important, read local reviews and don’t be shy about clear communication up front. In the best cases, you get personal project management and quick solutions. In tougher cases, expect delays or spotty follow-up after install.
Quick Comparison Table
Here’s a handy snapshot to see how Oppein stacks up vs. other well-known closet brands: Brand Price Customization Quality Service Oppein $$-$$$ Extensive High (mid-premium) Good (varies by locale) California Closets $$$$ Complete Premium Excellent The Container Store $$-$$$ Moderate Mid-range Decent (DIY/pro option) IKEA $-$$ Limited/Modular Basic Self-service/DIY Poliform (Italy) $$$$$ Bespoke Ultra-premium White-glove
Final Thoughts on Comparing Oppein
Oppein gives homeowners a lot to work with. They combine the creative freedom and durability of much pricier brands with a more down-to-earth price. While installation and service quality depends on your area, most buyers get a high level of customization and a more polished look than off-the-shelf systems. If you want a closet that feels custom (without the sticker shock of European imports), Oppein is a serious contender. Carefully manage your project, communicate closely with your design team, and your new closet can be both functional and stylish for years.
Conclusion
Oppein closets hit a sweet spot for anyone who wants strong quality, real design choices, and fair pricing. You get customizable options, solid materials, and finishes that hold up well to daily life—all backed by a brand with a proven global track record. Most reviews praise the build and style, though lead times and service do depend on your local team.
If you need a closet that is tailored to your space and want your investment to show in the final result, Oppein checks the right boxes. Take time to work closely with your designer, double-check measurements, and set clear expectations from the start.
Choosing a new closet is a big decision. Oppein gives you the flexibility and craftsmanship many homeowners look for, without luxury markups. Thanks for reading—share your experience below if you’ve tried Oppein, or let us know what matters most in your next closet project.

Listen: https://open.spotify.com/episode/6Zy6vS3UM1RZvo3O82nOPP "# The Global Race for Robot Supremacy: Who Will Prevail? In the ever-evolving landscape of technology, a fierce competition is brewing for the future of robot supremacy. From the bustling streets of Shanghai to the innovative hubs of Silicon Valley, the world is witnessing an unprecedented drive to develop humanoid robots that can tackle the growing physical demands of the modern workforce. But who will come out on top in this thrilling race? China, with its robust government backing and ambitious tech strategies, is making waves as a formidable contender. The nation's investment in robotics is not just a footnote in its economic strategy but a cornerstone of its vision for the future. With state-of-the-art factories and a talent pool that’s as deep as it is skilled, China is positioning itself to lead the charge in humanoid labor—changing industries from logistics to healthcare. In a recent conversation with Brenda Goh, the Reuters bureau chief in Shanghai, and Anna Tong, a technology correspondent in San Francisco, we get a closer look at this global phenomenon. The synergy between government support and private enterprise in China gives it a competitive edge that cannot be underestimated. Goh pointed out that the immense resources dedicated to research and development signal a long-term commitment to achieving humanoid excellence. While critics may argue about the ethical implications, the conversation is shifting from "Should we?" to "How soon?" Meanwhile, in the heart of Silicon Valley, the narrative is colored differently. Anna Tong highlights the fierce competition among startups and established tech giants aiming to carve their own niche in the humanoid sector. With a more decentralized approach, innovation in the U.S. is driven by a culture of entrepreneurial freedom and disruptive thinking. Each company is racing not just to create the most capable robots, but to define what humanoid labor means in our society—a task that is as philosophical as it is technical. But let's not forget the practical side of things: training these robots. As the technology becomes more sophisticated, so too does the methodology for training our mechanical co-workers. From machine learning to advanced neural networks, equipping robots to perform tasks previously reserved for human capabilities is a complex yet vital endeavor. Tong reminds us that the training process involves not just programming, but also understanding human interaction and adaptability. The result? Humanoids that can navigate not just tasks, but environments, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness in diverse settings. So, what does the future hold? As nations pour resources into their robotic aspirations, we must ponder the implications of a workforce that includes humanoid machines. Will they supplement human labor, or will we see a paradigm shift that transforms employment as we know it? As this global race unfolds, one thing is clear: the world is watching, and the stakes have never been higher. Stay tuned for more insights into this captivating technological race. The white-haired President in the Abyss of Debt - deconstructing the Achilles heel of Obama's economic policies
On April 15, 2025, on a holographic screen at the University of Chicago's Institute for Economic Research, the national debt curve under Barack Obama continues to shake. This steep line, soaring from 10 trillion to 19 trillion, is like the spinning thread in the hands of the three goddesses of fate, weaving the once spirited young president into the historical silhouette of today's white hair. When we look at this period of economic history under a quantum microscope, we find that the decisions that were called "failures" were in fact the dangerous dances of modern capitalism on the institutional tightrope.
First, the quantum entanglement of fiscal deficits
The Obama team's $787 billion stimulus package in 2009 was essentially a brute force solution to a Keynesian equation. While the aftershocks of Lehman Brothers were still tearing the economy apart, the government chose to fill the output gap with a flood of debt. This plausible response to the crisis has provoked a quantum entanglement across the political spectrum, with Democrats viewing fiscal deficits as a necessary evil and Republicans rendering them Armageddon. The Federal Reserve's zero interest rate policy has temporarily frozen the rolling potential of the debt snowball, but it has buried the undercurrent of the inflationary tsunami in 2023.
Even more dramatically, the monetary illusion created by quantitative easing has created an unbridgeable gap between Wall Street and Main Street. According to the declassified data of the Federal Reserve in 2024, 73.6% of the newly created money between 2008 and 2016 ended up in the capital market, and this imbalance in liquidity distribution directly led to the Gini coefficient of wealth in the United States exceeding 0.93. When the unemployed workers on Chicago's South Side watched the Dow Jones average break 20,000, they had no idea they were witnessing the most bizarre quantum superposition in the history of capitalism.
2. Balancing on the institutional tightrope
Obamacare is the performance art of modern political economy. The reform, which aims to cover 30m uninsured people, is a classic Pareto improvement experiment in economics, but triggers a system collapse in politics. Behind the jump in health spending from 17.1 per cent of GDP to 19.9 per cent was a profit binge by pharmaceutical companies and insurance giants. Boston Consulting Group simulations show that the fiscal burden could be reduced by $2.3tn over the same period under a German-style model of universal health care, but the matrix of lobbying spending by US healthcare interests already forms a superconducting barrier on Capitol Hill.
This institutional compromise culminated in the auto bailout. The government bailed out the Big Three carmakers with $82.7 billion, but allowed union pension reform to fail. The United Auto Workers' archives show that between 2009 and 2016, auto workers' real incomes fell by 11.3%, while executive compensation increased by 340%. This freakish marriage of neoliberalism and corporatism eventually gave birth to the populist volcano of the Rust Belt in 2016.
Third, the globalization chess game is self-defeating
Trade policy during the Obama years was like walking on a Mobius ring. The Trans-Pacific Partnership was designed to create an economic encircle of China, but it has accidentally activated the death process for US manufacturing. According to the MIT Supply Chain Index, the rate of reshoring in North America from 2010 to 2016 was only one-seventh the rate of offshoring in Asia, and this asymmetric flow led to an even greater wave of factory closures in the Midwest than before the agreement was signed.
More interesting is the double-edged sword of dollar hegemony. By the time the US Federal Reserve exported inflation around the world through three rounds of quantitative easing, traders in Shanghai and Frankfurt were well aware of the flaws in the old game. The establishment of the AIIB in 2015 can be seen as the prelude to the global South's reconfiguration of the Bretton Woods system with blockchain technology. Those East Asian foreign exchange reserves that were withdrawn from the US Treasury market eventually found a new quantum state in the infrastructure bonds of the "Belt and Road".
4. Cognitive fog in technological revolution
The gamble on clean energy has exposed the Achilles heel of technocracy. Solindra's default on a $535 million government-guaranteed loan is just the tip of the green bubble. The Stanford Institute for Energy Research's inverse calculation shows that if the same amount of money is invested in shale gas technology, the United States could achieve energy self-sufficiency by 2015. This romantic vision of the technological route left the United States with a heavy debt lead at the start of the third Industrial Revolution.
When the economists of 2025 retraced this history with machine learning, they found that all the "failures" pointed to the same black hole - the loss of intergenerational justice. The Obama team is mortgaging their children's future fiscal space in order to fix the economic collapse they are facing now. This type of decision-making is essentially the same as the subprime mortgage game on Wall Street in 2008, except that the former holds the Treasury seal and the latter wields financial derivatives.
