Recently, everything has felt a bit muted. The smoke from the #bcwildfires has been drifting south for the past few days, making everything a bit hazy and breathing just a bit more difficult. I've been checking on the llama, sheep, and chickens regularly to make sure they're still doing okay and that they have enough water. But hopefully, this smoke will clear and the wildfires will be contained soon! A big thanks to all the firefighters in the Pacific Northwest for their work trying to contain all the wildfires in the area. . . As always, make sure to drink lots of water and to have fresh, clean water for your animals too. These three almost always move around the property together but they're not the only ones who live here! They also share their home with wild bunnies, squirrels, the occasional deer, and birds. Spring is always so fun because of all the different wild animals that return and call this place home. I would describe these sheep as being cautiously curious. Generations of being prey animals mean that they have every reason to be wary and cautious of things that move around them. It took me three months of going out there with grain and the occasional pile of hay for them to consider coming close to me. And it was longer than that for them to eat out of my hand! Nowadays, they're still wary and will often dart away if I move too suddenly. But they'll come right back and will usually come right up to me to say hi and search for treats. They're a cute duo and love spending time with Shasta, that's for sure.

Last night I was walking to my cabin and caught up in my own stress when I heard some tussling of grass and a soft bah in the nearby pasture. I walked over to find the sheep and llama enjoying the cool evening. The sheep soon started running around just like this, seemingly excited for an audience and just the definition of joy. They ran to greet me and then back to the llama, as if to say "we found a friend but we're still a little scared." They love Shasta so much - he is their guardian angel. More than just about anything, I love being here with these sheep and this llama. I love taking care of them and taking care of the dogs in my life. It's easy to get caught up in my own head but every once and awhile, the animals in my life remind me to take a breath and enjoy the moment. #sheep #sheepofinstagram #shastathellama #llama #spring

There are many things I love about this world: unapologetic and carefree happiness, local coffee shops, #Roosterthedog, the fact that in all of history I am graced with living in the same time as Beyoncé 🐝🍋. (#lemonade for days) Some of my all time favorite things though are these sheep and lone llama. The sheep will often follow me or run over to check for treats. Sometimes they squat to pee and will stare into the depths of my soul when doing so, as if to say that they will pee on everything I love if given the chance. Other times, they head butt as a way to say hello (or so I like to think). But all of time, they make my day so much nicer. Being able to take care of them and so many other animals is really rewarding in its own way. I've been able to explore trails and parks around Bellingham with so many happy and goofy dogs. Plus these sheep continuously make me laugh just by doing their own thing. #sheep #ShastaTheLlama #sheepofinstagram

This is from a few weeks ago - back when everyone still had their winter coats (and a better reason for them). The llama was looking for treats, the sheep were their usually careful selves, Rooster was rolling around, and Milo shows off his beauty pageant ways. A pretty typical day with these animals. 😁 They're a funny and goofy bunch that I seriously love hanging out with on a regular basis.
