Brandon Flowers x reader
Summary: Dating the lead singer of your favourite band has its perks
Requests are open!
Buy me a coffee :)
Tumblr media
‘Right so if you stand here, no here, no here, you’ll get the best view.’
Brandon’s hands on my shoulders kept moving me from spot to spot as he was trying to work out where I’d have the best view of the gig. I had been dating Brandon for about 7 months and had made it no secret that The Killers were my favourite band so when he asked if I wanted to watch the gig from the wings, I had leapt across the sofa to hug him, knocking us both to the floor in the process.
‘Brandon, do you really think I care where I stand,’ I said, excitement colouring my voice. Brandon took his hands off my shoulders, laughing when he took in my Killer’s Battleborn t-shirt.
‘Twenty seconds Flowers, enjoy the show (Y/N),’ Ronnie said as he walked past to head onto stage. I turned to face Brandon, a grin on my face.
‘Good luck!’ I said, leaning up to quickly peck his lips.
‘You’re going to love this one babe,’ I said, as he ran onto stage, the crowd screaming instantly.
---
The gig was coming to a close and Brandon had stopped running around the stage to address the crowd.
‘We enjoying the show?’ He asked, I couldn’t help but laugh as the crowd cheered and Brandon looked to the side, grinning at me before continuing:
‘So you might have noticed we’ve done a bit of a different set tonight, some songs you didn’t expect. I have my girlfriend, (Y/N) standing in the wings tonight,’ I heard everyone scream from my place offstage and frowned slightly, confused as to where Brandon was going. ‘I have it on good authority The Killers are her favourite band so tonight, this concert’s dedicated to her. We’ve played all the songs she’s told me are her favourites so want you all to join me in singing this last one for (Y/N)!’
I’d frozen in place. I was so wrapped up in watching Brandon perform and interact with the crowd, I hadn’t noticed that the set list was all of my favourite songs. I grabbed the copy of the set list from the table next to me:
Joy Ride
Midnight Show
Somebody Told Me
A Matter of Time
From Here on Out
Heart of a Girl
Tyson vs Douglas
A Dustland Fairytale
The Man
My God
In Another Life
I looked up in time so see Brandon looking over at me again, laughing when he saw the shock on my face.
‘This is your gig,’ he said away from the microphone, winking as the intro for Uncle Johnny started playing.
As soon as the song finished he came running towards me, picking me up and kissing me.
‘Enjoy?’ He asked.
‘I can’t believe you did that,’ I said, still in shock that he’d used all of my favourite tracks in one gig.
‘Perks of dating the singer of your favourite band,’ he laughed before kissing me again and running back onstage for the encore.

tscu (taylor swift cinematic universe) for the blorbo fandom meme?
Send me a fandom and I'll tell you my (nonsensical):
Okay anon you're hilariously brilliant because I have to personify songs and concepts and I'm deliriously tired. So this is gonna be special and quite unclear l m a o
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
The Last Time. She's so dramatic? She couldn't leave well enough alone (heyyoo) so she had to bring in an under-appreciated angst peddler like Gary-Lightbody-Of-Snow-Patrol. Y'know, Mr. "Would you lie with me about just forget the world?" Sir "Light up light up as if you have a choice." Literally I have the "OHohOHoh"-s playing on repeat in my head every second of the day. I could write essays about them and I probably WILL because I cannot be normal about The Last Blorbo.
And also DBATC but I'm too tired to give her the textual breakdown she deserves so just know she makes mr want to die like all good faves
scrunkly (my “baby”, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Mine like HOW can anyone not want to eat rebar in an adorational way when listening to it?? YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH A CARELESS MAN'S CAREFUL DAUGHTER HELLO???? I project Very Hard onto it! I am a careless (wo)man's careful daughter!! It's such a stupid song and my entire heart also
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
BETTE DAVIS EYES COVER MY BELOVED!!! PLS??!?! So I love Bette Davis Eyes. So fucking much. I have a playlist of all the covers of the song I could find. Taylor's cover is probably my third favorite with Brandon Flowers's (lead singer of The Killers) version at number 1 because god it's so beautiful and then Sexton Blake's at number 2 because something about how the guy sings it is so sensual yet sleazy?? I love it omfg but anyway yeah Taylor's cover is just so Quintessentially Her and everybody should go worship it.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won’t shut up about it for a week)
That time she wrote lyrics from A Dustland Fairytale by The Killers down her arm. It makes me want to throw myself into raw sewage to battle the filth with bleach and Mr. Clean magic erasers <3 The Killers are my favorite band and I love this song SO MUCH I could go on about it for an hour, and the album it comes from, and my personal arc of how I've felt about the album over time. Which mirrors me being very ambivalent toward's Taylor's music for years and then suddenly a flip getting switched in my mind and then POOF! Obsessed
Tumblr media
poor little meow meow (“problematic”/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
I Don't Wanna Live Forever. It's actually perfect and Zayn's falsetto is a blessing that none of us deserve and also the music video killed me. Give me a fucking collab album that's like this song but across 17 tracks. Thank you and everybody who hates it will get moldy bibles in the mail from me
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
The concept of "(feat. Ed Sheeran)" will one day face my torment and disdain and it will be a terrible experience
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
Shake It Off. Everything about Shake It Off is terrible and horrible and bad and irredeemable and Miss Swift WILL atone for her crimes for bringing this plague unto our houses. Each week I pray for this character to get killed off. Villain of the season every season.

Music asks 1-10
Idk which of the 2 music asks you meant so I'm going with the first one I posted.
1. What’s the biggest misconception about your fav artist? Mmmm...I mean...most of my favorite bands have been called sell outs at some point or being overrated. I can't think of any specific thing.
2. Do you prefer the pit or having a seat during concert? Pit 100000%
3. If you’re in the pit, front row or chilling / dancing at the back? Front row or bust.
4. Have you ever been brought on stage during a concert? No, thankfully! I would die lol.
5. Tell me about or link me to a note change during a live performance so good you couldn’t believe your ears: ooft ok so the most recent example of that has to be Lauren Ruth Ward singing Did I Offend You live. It was a stripped down version of it and she sang it a bit slower, it was just her and her guitarist and I was transfixed. I guess more than a note change it was tempo.
6. Write down your dream set list for any artist of your choice: I'll go with The Killers since that's what I'm listening to at the moment. Also because otherwise I won't be able to pick an artist. In no particular order
Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine
Mr. Brightside
Andy You're A Star
Change Your Mind
Believe Me Natalie
Midnight Show
Glamorous Indie Rock And Roll
Everything Will Be Alright
All The Pretty Faces
My List
This River Is Wild
Bling
Why Do I Keep Counting
Tranquilize
Under The Gun
Shadowplay
Sweet Talk
Show You How
Losing Touch
Dustland Fairytale
Neon Tiger
World We Live In
Goodnight Travel Well
Runaways
Here With Me
Miss Atomic Bomb
7. What is a gig you wish you’d been able to go to (but either couldn’t go, or because you weren’t even born)? Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined with System Of A Down my...freshman year of high school? Something like that. Also any MCR concert. But mainly Juan Gabriel's concert in 1991.
8. An artist you never saw live but really want to: Damien Rice, the Cranberries, Cat Power, Lana Del Rey, Birdy...to name a few.
9. What is the fav gig you’ve been to? Foo Fighters at the Trubador.
10. Tell me about your fav crowd moment: the Foo Fighters show at the Trubador was amazing. The venue is tiny and Dave Grohl always plays to the crowd. The interaction was intimate and the set list was amazing. FF fans are generally so friendly and that day they protected me from a drunk girl that tried to fight my short ass.
Hit me up fam.

The Clock Was Tickin’
This song is just a goddamn masterpiece. Why do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
(IF YOU HAVEN’T HEARD THIS SONG, GO STRAIGHT TO YOUR FAVORITE STREAMING SERVICE AND LISTEN. DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT $200. DON’T FUCKING SPOIL THIS BEAUTIFUL MASTERPIECE FOR YOURSELF. LISTEN FIRST.)
Okay, here we go folks.
1. Upon hearing it for the first time, he sounds so legitimately happy, like you can just hear him grinning in the studio while he was singing, it’s so charming and wonderful and countrified, it just makes you happy right along with him while he’s singing and telling you this lovely story about a couple in love.
2. And then suddenly you realize that, huh, these people had six kids and Brandon is one of six, isn’t that weird? And, uh, oh, the mom is sick...? And Brandon’s mom had cancer...and...oooh...no....
3. And then Brandon Fucking Flowers rips your goddamn heart out. Our happy, sweet little country ditty takes a 180 halfway through, and now you’re fucking blubbering like a whale as he sings about putting yellow flowers on his mother’s grave and ‘everything inside the house seems to know she’s gone’ and fuuuuck Brandon Flowers, I did not sign up for this!
But also he didn’t sign up for it, either...and I think the point of the whole song. It literally takes you along for the ride of his life, from his parents meeting as teenagers and building a beautiful life together, to Brandon’s own kids and nieces and nephews being born...and then suddenly this Happy Little World gets ripped to Tiny Little Shreds because his mom died, and nothing’s ever the same again. And he didn’t know it was going to happen when he was younger and so neither did you, there isn’t a hint of a sad ending from the first half of the song...you get blindsided and it tears your little heart into pieces. The first half of the song is sweet and happy and idyllic, like his life with his mom in it, and the second half represents the shattered remains without her in it. This song was written shortly after his mom died (it was released just seven months after her death) with the intent of bringing the listener right into his broken heart and holy jesus, does it accomplish that. It’s soul-crushing.
4. Brandon once said that his one of his dad’s favorite types of music was country...this song about his parents is a lovely, pure country ballad, and it’s so touching that he would make a song for remaining parent in a genre that he loves.
5. I think changing his mom’s name (her name was Jean, the mom in the song was Jackie) served a double purpose - it probably helped him distance himself from the song just enough to not end up bawling on stage when he tried to perform it; and it also tricked the die-hard fans who were invested enough in the band to know his mom’s name and her brain cancer diagnosis. It throws you off the scent so that even if you know those things going in, you don’t realize that this song might actually be about his mother until you put the clues together just before she dies, so you get the full, wrenching impact of the gut-punch halfway through the song as intended.
The Clock Was Tickin’ is an absolutely undeniable masterpiece; I think it may be the best song ever written by Brandon Flowers, with or without The Killers. Fight me.
I’m gonna end this with a quote from Brandon, an intro that he sometimes gives before A Dustland Fairytale...
“If there’s ever been a song that’s deserved some light, it’s this next song, so I’m gonna ask you to hold your lights up...I think I got my light from my mama, I think a lot of us get our lights from our mamas. The trick is to not let it go out.”

what are the other killers lyrics you're unsure of?
Well isn’t that a question! So these ones are all the ones where I’ve found multiple lyrics online and I have no idea what’s right!
Mr Brightside: Some websites say “Letting me go” (I’m fully on team “Let me go”)
Smile Like You Mean It: “Some things slide/sat by so carelessly” (I’m team slide and I swear that’s what he sings live)
All These Things That I’ve Done: “The Gold/Cold/Lone hearted boy I used to be” I think he sings gold here but I have NO FUCKING IDEA! It’s my favourite damn song as well.
On Top: “ Get your eyes off my bride/pride tonight” I really have no idea here, I change my mind on a  regular basis
Bones: “Never got cold/gold” Again, no fucking idea here I thought it was cold till a few weeks ago
A Dustland Fairytale: “The drawbridge is closing” or “We’re drawbridges closing” (I’m team we’re and I think that’s what he says live) “The/Your mind is poison” (No idea from me here)
A Crippling Blow: Honestly, just the majority of this song no lyric website seems to agree but it’s ok its a bop
Miss Atomic Bomb: On AZ lyrics it has “It feels just like a dagger buried deep in your back (It's so cruel [?])“ and honestly same
Carry Me Home: “The stars in my eyes were shimmering lights/lies” (Again, no idea from me!)
Prize Fighter: “She works to hard at 68 hours a week/ she works 268 hours a week” (I think it;s first one..most of the time!)
And there’s probably more tbh! Honestly, just publish all your damn lyrics Brandon.

Dear Followers, welcome to our second week of the fresh 2018-2019 season, here at Musica in Extenso. This week is a special presentation - being a classical music blog, for the first time ever - of rock music, through the fascinating music of The Killers.
On of the biggest rock bands of the 21st century, The Killers formed in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 2001, by the four members: Brandon Flowers, Dave Kreuning, Mark Stoermer, Ronnie Vannucci Jr.. The band released five albums: Hot Fuss, Sam’s Town, Day & Age, Battle Born and Wonderful Wonderful in 2017. About the musical style of the band, we consider The Killers a formation that presents various genres, like alternative-rock, indie rock and pop-rock.
They achieved worldwide succes and the band’s musical activity was recognised with several awards and nominations (NME Awards, BRIT Awards, MTV EMA Awards).
This week we will focus on the music of this band, presenting some really great hits. Today on Musica in Extenso:
The Killers A Dustland Fairytale  (Live on Letterman)
I don’t know, It’s hard to say anything...so emotional, so moving and touching music. The song is focus on the frontman’s parents, referring to "Cinderella" (his mother) and a "slick chrome American prince" (his father). I think that, the best way you can understand the music of the band, is to read the lyrics. I attach to this post also the lyrics of A Dustland Fairytale:
Dustland fairytale beginning Just another white trash County kiss Sixty one Long brown hair and foolish eyes He looks just like you want him to Some kind of slick chrome American prince A blue jean serenade And Moon River what'd you do to me And I don't believe you
Saw Cinderella in a party dress but She was looking for a night gown I saw the devil warping up his hands He's getting ready for the show down I saw the minute that I turn away I got my money on a pond tonight
Change came in disguised of revelation Set his soul on fire She said she'd always knew he'd come around And the decades disappear like sinking Ships we persevere god gives us hope But we still fear We don't know The mind is poison castle in the sky Sit stranded vandalized The draw bridge is closing
Saw Cinderella in a party dress but She was looking for a night gown I saw the devil warping up his hands He's getting ready for the show down I saw the ending were they turned the page I threw my money and I ran away Strait to the Vally of the great divide
And were the dreams roll high And were the wind don't blow Out here the good girls die And the sky won't snow Out here the bird don't sing Out here the field don't grow Out here the bell don't ring Out here the bell don't ring Out here the good girls die
Now Cinderella don't you go to sleep Its such a bitter form of refuge Ah don't you know the kingdoms under siege And everybody needs you Is there still magic in the midnight sun Or did you leave it back in sixty-one In the of the cadence in the young mans eyes And were the dreams roll high
The video is a presentation in a live transmission on Letterman Show. So epic and a real tear jerker performance!
Stay tuned for more, to discover the music of The Killers! - Editor-in-Chief

EVERYTHING I LOVE ABOUT A DUSTLAND FAIRYTALE
LISTEN, A Dustland Fairytale by The Killers is MY FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME, I KNOW YOU’RE NOT EVEN SUPPOSED TO PICK A FAVORITE KILLERS SONG, BUT A DUSTLAND FAIRYTALE FUCKS. ME. UP. it was the first song by The Killers that’s ever graced my ears, it was 2011, 10 o’clock at night in my brother’s basement when he showed my family the full orchestral performance on Letterman, I HAVE BEEN A CHANGED PERSON SINCE.
- I literally don’t know if the beginning is made by a piano, a harp or a fuckin music box but either way -- IT GETS ME 100% OF THE TIME
- “A dust land fairytale beginning, but just another white trash county kiss” wHAT KIND OF GODLY METAPHOR -- I’M A HO FOR THIS LINE “’61, long brown hair, foolish eyes,” I wasn’t even born 2 decades near the 60s, but after this line, I suddenly have fallen in love with someone with long brown hair, there’s a cigarette dangling from my mouth and I’m leaning against my motorcycle wearing 50 shades of leather.
 - *PIANO INTENSIFIES*
-”he looked just like you want him to, some kind of slick chrome American prince” I don’t really know how I understand this, but I understand.
- “blue jean serenade, moon river what’d you do to me?” I don’t know what this is referencing but it HITS ME HARD.
-”saw Cinderella in a party dress, but she was looking for a nightgown,” SHE’S TIRED, I DON’T KNOW WHO SHE IS, BUT LET HER REST
-”I saw the devil wrapping up his hands, he’s getting ready for the showdown” this lyric makes me want to fight every man who’s done me wrong
-”I saw the minute that I turned away, I’ve got my money on a pawn tonight...*THAT PAUSE*” YOU KNOW WHAT THAT PAUSE IS, IN LIVE VERSIONS RONNIE SCREAMS, “ONE TWO THREE FOUR!” AND SMASHES HIS DRUMSTICKS TOGETHER -- NUT X1,344
-THEN EVERYTHING SPEEDS UP AND OOOOOHHHHHH MY GOD, IT’S LIKE THE DROP OF A ROLLERCOASTER ... FROM THEIR THE FEELS COME HUNTY THEY COME.
-”change came in disguise of revelation, set his soul on fire, she said she always knew he’d come around” i’m not that religious but YAAAAS COME THRUUUU, good for him.
-”and the decades disappear like sinking ships, but we persevere God gives us hope but we still fear what we don’t know. The mind is poison.” THIS IS LITERALLY THE GREATEST THING IVE EVER HEARD IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I’m not even trying to be dramatic. If Brandon didn’t feel immense satisfaction after writing that lyric THEN THE BITCH BETTER PUT OUT WHATEVER HE’S HIDING THAT’S EVEN BETTER, (Also the strings in the background?????? Holy fuck??? What do I focus on?? The lyrics or the instrumental?????)
-”castles in the sky set stranded, vandalized” WHAT KIND OF ALLITERATION??? THERE’S SO MUCH FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE IN THIS SONG IT’D MAKE MY ENGLISH TEACHER NUT.
-then the chorus repeats...except it’s faster??? and more intense?????? The orchestra is just GOING FOR IT and ronnie’s just GOING FOR IT and eVERYONE’S JUST GOING FOR IT.
-”sent to the valley of the great divide, out where the dreams all hide,  out where the wind don’t blow, out here the good girls die and the sky won’t snow” it just hit me that this is just a storybook? All this happen and it happened in a far, far away land where this happens. My true love is this song.
-”out here the bird don’t sing, out here the field don’t grow, out here the bell don’t ring...out here the bell don’t ring -- *that thing that I fucking LOVE* -- out here the bell don’t ring --*MORE OF THAT THING* -- out here the good girls die.” Living in a town in the west which qualities are all tragic, this lyric really h i t s m e.
-”cinderella don’t you go to sleep, it’s such a bitter for of refuge, don’t you know the kingdom’s under siege, and everybody needs you” Listen, “cinderella” as sung in this also sounds like “singing rebel”. That’s all you need to know.
-”is there still magic in the midnight sun or did you leave it in ‘61″ IDK WHAT KIND OF MOOD BRANDON WAS IN WHEN HE WROTE THIS SONG, BUT AS A WRITER, I NEED THIS MOOD.
-”in the cadence of a young man’s eyes, out where the dreams all hide,” EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT WRITES POETRY AND THINKS THEY ARE GOOD NEEDS TO RE-EVALUATE (MYSELF INCLUDED).
-if you need a guitar solo to cry to, Dave’s in this song is a good choice :).
To conclude, A Dustland Fairytale is a great song. I’ve never heard anything like it. More songs need full orchestras and good lyrics.
