Chalachitram National Film Festival: a grand celebration of art and heritage
Tumblr media
Film festivals have emerged as a significant platform for the preservation and exhibition of heritage. One such, the Chalachitram National Film Festival, even has heritage as its motto and central theme. The 7th edition commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the sacred lamp by Piyush Roy, dean of film studies at RV University. Festival Director Utpal Datta expressed his elation at witnessing the festival's profound influence in inspiring the new generation of filmmakers to delve into their rich cultural history and weave both fictional and factual narratives around it. For, “the soul of a civilization is its heritage,” emphasized Christopher Dalton, the artistic director.
Advisory board member Rahul Rawail shared invaluable insights from his days in the film industry, offering guidance and techniques to budding filmmakers. Following this enlightening session, he unveiled Prantik Deka’s book 'Past Revisited,' a literary exploration of the cinema of Assamese. Prior to the screening of films, the curtains rose to a dance video interpretation by Prerona Bhuyan of Vande Mataram. The non-competition panorama included the premiere screening of Prabahini, directed by the VP of the Chalachitram Society, Prabal Khaund.

Festival Director Utpal Datta felicitates Piyush Roy
A 3-member Chalachitram Grand Jury conferred the Best Film award upon Dhrubajit Baishya’s Kameez, which jury member Piyush Roy declared to be “a celebration of solitude that creates empathy in space and time lapse.” Biswajit Das won the Best Director award for March, while Gunjan Kashyap's exceptional screenplay in Home Brews: Struggles for a Tradition was honored with the Best Screenplay award. Rajveer Pardeshi’s performance in Chirbhog was recognized with a Jury Special Mention for Best Child Actor. Sumedha Bhattacharyya's mesmerizing visuals in Mau: The Spirit Dreams of Cheraw earned her the Best Cinematographer award, lauded by jury member Shiladitya Bora for its surreal imagery.
The Best Film from NE India Award was conferred upon Pranab Sarmah’s Mukha: the Mask. The film, says jury member Meghachandra Kongbam, “highlights the rich tradition of Mukha art in Assam which was introduced by the 15th century saint and cultural icon Shrimanta Shankardev in the performance of Bhaona, a form of dance drama depicting popular stories from Hindu Mythology and gives its uniqueness in the world of the Mask arts with captivating visuals. The film covers the craftsmanship of the artisans making the masks and individual efforts on the popularization of the art, even to attract the foreign tourists. This film will motivate the audience to ensure the flourishing of the rare beautiful art forms of the country.”
In addition to the Grand Jury Awards, House of Illusions, an indie film studio founded to encourage emerging filmmakers, set up an independent jury comprising sound designer Debajit Changmai and RV University professors Meera Baindur and Deepa Ganesh. Hira Das’ Kaankhowa, a text on ethics that lays bare the evils of collective oppression, won the House of Illusions Award for Best Short Fiction Film by a Woman Director. And Bobbeeta Sharma’s Jnanada: Reflections of Light and Shade, which reveals the early years of the cinema of Assamese in an autobiographical tone through the telling of the life story of its first actress, Jnanada Kakati, won the House of Illusions Award for Best Documentary by a Woman Director.

In #coronatimes, the show goes on for Bollywood writers - bollywood
New Post has been published on https://www.liveindiatimes.com/in-coronatimes-the-show-goes-on-for-bollywood-writers-bollywood/
In #coronatimes, the show goes on for Bollywood writers - bollywood
A writer craves solitude, and these times of social distancing, prompted by the coronavirus spread, are turning out to be fruitful for writers. Whether it’s writing something new, revising or polishing already written scripts, the show is going on as far as Bollywood writers are concerned.
Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019) writer-director Aditya Dhar had already earmarked this period to work on his ambitious project, The Immortal Ashwatthama, but no social distractions has means more concentration.
“Writing keeps my equilibrium intact. It has helped me keep my perspective positive in these times of crisis. I’m concentrating on fine-tuning this project as of now,” Dhar says.
Even directors Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari are busy scripting their next movie, a biopic on NR Narayana Murthy and his wife Sudha Murthy. “Writing requires a lot of discipline. We work with a group of writers and all the discussions about the screenplay happen on Facetime. We’re giving our complete attention to this till the time we aren’t allowed to get back to the shoots,” says Iyer Tiwari, who’s also reading up a lot nowadays.
Just a few days ago, Javed Akhtar’s wife, actor Shabana Azmi had posted a picture in which the veteran writer was seen “doing what he does best — writing”. And from what he hinted to us sometime back, we can expect “a couple of good scripts” from him soon.

Creator-producer Siddharth P Malhotra calls it a “blessing” to be able to sit down with “almost no sounds around and concentrate on the art of storytelling”. As for Omung Kumar, he’s trying to co-ordinate with his writer, who shares script pages via email; director Anees Bazmee is polishing Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, and Thappad co-writer Mrunmayee Lagoo is developing stories for films and the web.
Filmmaker Anurag Basu is certain we’ll have “the best scripts coming out in the next couple of years” considering the time people now have to sit back and let their creative juices flow, uninterrupted.
Banners, too, are reaching out to writers to make the most of their “quaran-time” by urging them to send in their scripts via email. Producer Shiladitya Bora says, “For the next three weeks, I plan to finish reading and studying as many pending scripts as possible to prepare as best as we can for future endeavors.”
If you have a script/ show bible for a film/ web series that you’d like us to read, pls mail us at [email protected] https://t.co/rXWmnjLzFi

Sometimes, however, a time of crisis can quell a writer’s appetite too. Jai Mummy Di writer-director Navjot Gulati tweeted, “How do you write anything new without any hope of it seeing the light of the day. Who knows when this will end!”.
And Sanjay Gupta, who is trying to write his new project Shootout 3: The Gangwars of Bombay at his home in scenic Khandala, says “being there when he needs to write is a norm, not an exception”. But, while he’s usually “completely calm and focused” there, he feels “distracted by all that’s happening around” currently.

This entire idea of being a ‘Supermom’ puts a lot of undue pressure on working women. Childcare and domestic labour need to be mutually understood between by both parents to achieve a truly modern and equal world.” The Times  of  India : 2nd. Nov,17
