Rockelle invited Connor over since it was his birthday. Once he opened the door, she puts a party hat on his head and goes 'happy birthday my love! i have something for you! i would bake a cake but sadly you cant have any...So I made a thirium smoothie!'

She chirps, then hands him a box that is neatly wrapped.

Connor chuckled when she put the hat on his head. "Thank you, Rocky, that's sweet of you," he said, leaning over to give her a kiss on the cheek. He took the neatly wrapped box, looking it over briefly with a smile before opening it.

kyle has rehearsed the idea in the back of his head multiple times. he has gone over to the planet in question, gotten tickets and places to stay for the night, maybe even an optimistic week if dick was so inclined to take a little break from routine. sure, neither of them are the type to like resting, but some occasions beg a little fanfare, a little flourish, right? right. now, the trickiest part was to explain his plans without making it sound a little absurd. 'hey, there's an entire planet dedicated to circus art-like stuff a couple of sectors away and i thought it'd be just the type of place you'd love, how about we go over to check it out together?' sounds woefully simple and a bit unbelievable, really, even to his ears that are used to the strangeness of space. dick isn't the type to go into space that often, at least not in comparison to him and any other lantern of any other color. he probably does it more than most of the earthbound heroes, considering how the titans tend to get up to the most bizarre types of shenanigans (and also have at least a couple of aliens in its roster, now and then), but it'd still be a departure from routine. funny, how he can harbor the life equation itself within, but the thought of messing up a birthday celebration with his soulmate makes him antsy. the one thing he makes sure of is that they both are on the same page, at least. a week before dick's birthday, he made sure to tell him he was coming around to stay for a bit and, sure, that ruins the potential of a surprise, but makes the odds of nightwing taking the night out for an extra long patrol exponentially lower. they don't get to be together nearly as often as he wishes, considering their own areas of action, but they sure try to make the most of it when they can. he makes them homemade dinner (something he's taken out of maura's old recipe books; he's kept them, even if he barely uses them — it's not like he'd have the heart to throw them away) and for a moment, it does seem like it's just going to be an intimate night in with a birthday cake on top, but by the time they are done with the food, kyle clears his throat dramatically as he stands up and then pulls out two glowing tickets from his pocket, clearly written in alien script. grinning, he suits up in the white lantern get-up. "so, are you ready for your actual birthday celebration, soulmate?"

Working on his birthday isn't unusual for Dick; he's done it more often than not over the course of his life. Sure there's usually some kind of celebration - he'll take himself out for a treat, if no one else is available - but he's never been good at vacations. Just sitting around doing nothing makes him antsy.

Tonight, though, the city can look after itself for once. Kyle being on Earth at all is such a rare occurence that it absolutely takes precedence, even if it hadn't been for Dick's birthday. He's been looking forward to this all week, ever since the message came through that Kyle was coming home back to begin with. Things might have started out awkward as hell with his soulmate, but at least on Dick's part it's developed rather further than mere friendship.

He'd like to think it's the same for Kyle.

The homemade dinner is delightful, Dick catching Kyle up on the highlights of what he'd missed since his last return to Earth and clearly perfectly content to have a night in with his soulmate; they really don't get to spend enough time together, with Kyle's duty keeping him out in space more often than not. As the meal winds down, though, Kyle pulls out a pair of what look like tickets, except they're glowing and Dick can't place the writing on them; it's no script he's familiar with, human or alien. And then Kyle suits up, leaving Dick to blink in mild, though amused, confusion.

"…Suddenly I feel underdressed," he quips with a laugh, looking down at himself before moving to take a better look at the tickets Kyle's holding. Some kind of alien show somewhere…? "Should I bring anything along, or is this more a come-as-you-are thing?" Is he going to need his own gear, or is this something that plain Dick Grayson can enjoy?
