Unveiling Shivam Dube’s Evolution: CSK’s Batter Masters the Short Ball
Shivam Dube’s prowess in hitting sixes has been on a steady rise, with 22 sixes in his initial three seasons followed by 16 and 35 in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
Tumblr media
During a recent match at Chepauk, Dube faced his 14th delivery against a bouncer and sent it soaring into the stands, showcasing his newfound confidence against short-pitched deliveries.
Despite previous struggles with short balls, Dube’s diligent practice in domestic cricket paid off as he confidently handled six short deliveries during the match, leaving opponents surprised.
Now equipped with two strategies to counter short balls — using his power to clear the fence or keeping the ball down by rolling his wrists — Dube has become a formidable force against pacers.
Chennai’s batting coach, Mike Hussey, praised Dube’s hard work behind the scenes, noting his improved ability to score boundaries off short deliveries.
Despite a pre-season injury setback, Dube’s determination to overcome his weaknesses has impressed his team, resulting in his continued success with the bat.
Since joining Chennai in 2022, Dube has been instrumental in tactically navigating situations with his explosive batting, particularly excelling in hitting sixes during the middle overs.
Dube’s entry onto the field in a recent match at Chepauk saw a surge in excitement among fans, highlighting his popularity and impact on the game.
His ability to read and counter spinners, combined with his powerful hitting, makes Dube a valuable asset for Chennai Super Kings and a player to watch out for in future matches.

Statement of an Ex-India Star on the Potential Selection Dilemma for the T20 World Cup
Former Indian cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra opined that India can pick both all-rounders Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya in the squad for the much-awaited T20 World Cup, starting in June in the West Indies and in the United States of America. The 46-year-old asserted that the dube reminds him of former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh as he attacks the bowler in the same way.
Tumblr media
He said that the 30-year-old should bat a little down the order for India.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel that "ShivamAtiSundaram—his power is talking loudly. I felt he was sent off slightly early in the third match. You could have sent either Sanju Samson or Rinku Singh ahead of him because he is not a grafter; he is an attacker. He reminds me of Yuvi. So you need to keep him slightly down the order.”
The former batter further added that both Hardik and Dube should be in the T20 World Cup squad.
He added, "The way he hit sixes in the first two matches, the power was evident. Some people have even said to leave Hardik and pick Dube. I am saying keep both. Shivam Dube is a real contender based on these three matches. If he does well in the IPL, it will be the icing on the cake.”

"Couldn't Sleep, Kept Thinking...": Mohit Sharma On Final 2 Balls To Ravindra Jadeja
As Ravindra Jadeja hit the winning runs for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 final, Mohit Sharma was shattered, having failed to defend the title for Gujarat Titans.
Tumblr media
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 final turned out to a sporting spectacle, with Ravindra Jadeja scoring 10 runs off the final 2 balls against Mohit Sharma of Gujarat Titans to earn his team 5th title. While it was pure ecstasy for the Super Kings, the Titans unit was in complete despair after failing to defend the title with the narrowest of margins. Mohit Sharma, who conceded a six and a four on the final two balls of the match to Jadeja, admitted that he couldn’t sleep that night, thinking what he could’ve done differently.
In a chat with The Indian Express, Mohit spoke about his plans and preparation for the final over, which went as planned until the final two balls.
“My mind was very clear in what I wanted to do. In the nets, I had practiced such situations and I have been in such scenarios before too. So I said let me bowl all balls yorkers and was backing my instinct,” the Haryana speedster said.
“They wanted to know what will be plan of action. I said I will again try to bowl yorker. People are now saying this and that but frankly it has no meaning. I knew what I wanted to do,” he added.
WIth Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja on strike, CSK could only score 3 runs from the first 4 balls. But, Jadeja sent the penultimate delivery straight down the ground for a six before hitting a four fine behind the stumps to complete the run-chase.
“I ran and tried to bowl (yorker) again. I just wanted to be focussed and back myself. Whole IPL I have done that. The ball landed where it shouldn’t have and Jadeja got his bat. I tried, I tried my best,” he says.
Having come into the team, literally from nowhere, Mohit truly had a comeback season that he would be remembered for a long time.
He said: “I couldn’t sleep. Sochta raha kya alag karta joh match jeet jaate. What if I could have bowled this ball or that ball? It’s not a nice feeling now. Somewhere something is missing but I’m trying to move on.”
“I was picked from nowhere. I remember speaking to Ani bhai (Anirudh Chaudhary, a veteran Haryana administrator) before the season what shall I do? Shall I continue or not. He had said I should try to play. I had come with no expectation and just have continued to work hard. My work ethic has remained the same. I don’t know what lies ahead, but I have enjoyed my journey,” the pacer went on to say.

Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Capitals by 27 runs
Tumblr media
Chennai: Hosts Chennai Super Kings notched up a 27-run win over Delhi Capitals, denting the visitors’ chances of reaching the IPL playoffs, here on Wednesday.
Opting to bat, MS Dhoni blazed away to 20 off nine balls to help hosts Chennai Super Kings post a decent 167/8. In reply, DC batters found the going tough and could manage only 140/8 in their 20 overs. Rilee Rossouw top-scored for Delhi with a 37 ball-35.
Earlier, CSK never really got going as the Delhi bowlers kept striking at regular intervals. However, Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja (21) smashed some much-needed boundaries and maximums to take them over the 160-run mark Spinners Axar Patel (2/27), Kuldeep Yadav (1/28) and Lalit Yadav (1/34) shared four wickets amongst themselves, while Mitchell Marsh took three scalps.
Brief Scores: Chennai Super Kings 167 for 8 in 20 Overs (Shivam Dube 25; Mitchell Marsh 3/18, Axar Patel 2/27). Delhi Capitals 140 for 8 in 20 overs (Rilee Rossouw 35; Matheesha Pathirana 3/37).

Pant is currently the most capped player as well as the leading run-scorer for the franchise. However, the report claimed that DC may not retain Pant ahead of the mega auction despite support from Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly. The report further stated that if Pant is released by DC, his most likely destination will be Chennai Super Kings. With MS Dhoni set to retire in the near future, CSK are on the lookout for an Indian wicket-keeper batter and they will be extremely interested in signing a talented Indian cricket team star like Rishabh Pant.

Earlier. India all-rounder Shivam Dube credited the Indian Premier League for improving his skills and gaining confidence as he made inroads in the Men in Blue side after the successful 2024 season.
Dube finished as the second-highest run-scorer for Chennai Super Kings in the season with 396 runs including three half-centuries at a blistering strike rate of 162.29. His strong show in the cash-rich tournament earned him a coveted spot in India's highly competitive 15-member T20 World Cup squad.
The all-rounder kept his place in India's playing 11 throughout the tournament and delivered in crunch situations for the side including the crucial knock of 27 runs in the final against South Africa. He built a vital 57-run partnership with Virat Kohli (76) to take the side to 176/6 in 20 overs as India defeated Proteas by six runs to add a second T20 World Cup title to their cabinet. He amassed 133 runs in eight innings while batting in the lower middle order.
"The IPL is remarkable, both for players and for the growth of cricket in India. It provides a fantastic platform for young talent to showcase their skills alongside some of the best players in the world. Personally, playing in the IPL has been a significant learning experience, helping me improve my game and gain confidence," Dube told IANS.

"Love To Look At Things In Positive Manner": Sanju Samson Ahead Of ICC T20 WC 2024 Opener
Ahead of their opener against Ireland in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, India wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson said that he positively looks at things while reflecting on failures and successes in his career.
Samson, who made his international debut in 2014 in a T20I match, has had ups and downs, having played just 25 T20Is and 16 ODIs for India over the last decade.
His T20 stats have been disappointing as he has scored just 374 runs at an average of 18.70 with one half-century. a strike rate of 133.09 and the best score of 77.
Samson has made his way into the T20 WC squad after a career-best Indian Premier League (IPL) which helped take Rajasthan Royals (RR) to the playoffs. He scored 531 runs at an average of 48.27 and a strike rate of 153.46, with five half-centuries. His best score was 86*.
The Kerala-born cricketer asserted that at the time when a cricketer is young and successful, he tries to skip a few lessons.
"I love to look at things in a more positive manner. If it's a failure or setback, you learn through it. When you are young and successful, you skip a few lessons. I am blessed with my talent, which comes naturally to me as a batter" Samson said in a video posted by BCCI.
The 29-year-old further stated that right from the moment he arrived in the United States, he had taken out all the things regarding Indian Premier which is in his mind.
"Right from the moment I landed here, IPL has been away from my mind. I tell myself that I am somewhere where people dream of going. Then I was like, what else do I need to do? Mentally I did not have to motivate myself. Things happen automatically. When you meet Rohit and Virat, you get inspired and there is no looking back. How can Sanju help India win more games, what it is like to be a WC player for India? I am very grateful for the support wherever I go," the wicketkeeper added.
In the end, Samson said that he loves to change and adapt according to the conditions.
"The biggest lesson as a cricketer and human is that the change is constant. You cannot say that this is the only way to play. I love to change and adapt as per conditions. You can't be the same Sanju Samson," the right-hand batter concluded.
India will start their T20 World Cup campaign on June 5 against Ireland at the newly constructed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
The blockbuster clash between India and Pakistan will take place on June 9. India will later play tournament co-hosts USA (June 12) and Canada (June 15) to wrap up their Group A matches.
In the tournament, India will be aiming to end their ICC trophy drought, having last won the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013. Since then, India has reached the 50-over World Cup final in 2023, semifinal in 2015 and 2019, the title clash of the ICC World Test Championship in 2021 and 2023, T20 WC final in 2014, semifinals in 2016 and 2022 but failed to secure a big ICC trophy.

T20 World Cup: Hardik Pandya joins Indian team in New York, posts photos
India all-rounder Hardik Pandya joined the national team in New York ahead of the team's warm-up match in the T20 World Cup 2024. Pandya, who did not travel with the first batch of the Indian contingent to the USA posted photos after linking up with the team. The vice-captain of the Indian team, Pandya, took to Instagram to share the training images.
Tumblr media
This will be Hardik's first assignment with the national team since the ODI World Cup 2023. Hardik had slipped on his bowling mark and injured his ankle in the Bangladesh game at the World Cup. The all-rounder missed series against Australia, South Africa and Afghanistan and directly played in the Indian Premier League. Pandya will be hopeful to turn around his fortunes after having a terrible time with MI.
Pandya is not the only player to travel separately. The likes of Sanju Samson and Rinku Singh have travelled alone and linked up with the Indian team in New York. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has had to adapt this approach due to the varying commitments of the players for their respective IPL franchises.
Indian players have travelled in batches to the US. The first batch of players included Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant amongst others. The second batch had the RR trio of Yuzvendra Chahal, Avesh Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Batters: Rohit Sharma (captain), Virat Kohli, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryakumar Yadav.
Wicketkeepers: Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson.
All-rounders: Hardik Pandya (vice-captain), Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja.
Bowlers: Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj
India play their only warm-up game ahead of the T20 World Cup on June 1 against Bangladesh. The entire team is expected to be available for that game.
