You’d think that being slashed and stabbed over a stack of fresh waffles would be the most horrifying aspect of a movie that’s not even 11 minutes long. That’s truly just the syrup on the belgians in the sad, sordid world of Waffle, which is barely even satire at this point, which is part of why it’s so scary. @carlynhudson's Waffle is a short horror/comedy film about an heiress to a waffle fortune, Katie, who hires Kerry, a young woman who works for a friend-for-hire business. Things go south when Kerry tries to leave, breaking the spell and triggering Katie's affluenza. @KatieMarovic and @Kerryleebee, who also wrote the film, have a dynamic on-screen chemistry, teeter-tottering from bestiest to obsessive serial killer often in the same take. Marovic and Barker's outstanding performances are captured beautifully with Carlyn Hudson's directing and cinematography, with Barker employing expressionist film angles to unsettle and undermine in a way that would make Terry Gilliam proud. Waffle is a part of the @SXSW 2020 Film Short Festival, originally to be hosted in Austin, TX, but moved online due to Covid-19 as part of @mailchimp's Support The Shorts. Watched Beauty and the Beast with my mom and sister. Truly wonderful... is all I can say about the overall production of it. From the actors/actresses, to the backgrounds in every sequence and picture, especially the musical arrangement, excellent. The whole idea of not adding a picaresque, the fact that it was meant as a live-action re-telling of the Disney studio's animated classic, made the film more fantastic. I can't wait to watch it again. Estupendo! 👍🏻👌🏻 Photos not mine.

Lucy
I went to go see Lucy today, not knowing much about it. All I knew was that it had Scarlett Johansson starring in it and that it was based on the theory that humans only use 10% of their cerebral. I wasn’t even sure if I agreed with this theory…because why do humans have such a large brain only to use ten percent?
But despite the bizarreness of the storyline, it was in a good way. The ideas were so intriguing. It was unlike other films. The way the camera paneled from wild animals to gorgeous graphics of mitosis, nerves and neurons to philosophy class and to the plot made it very unique. It was something unlike I had ever seen before.

"Begin Again"
So few days ago I went to see “Begin Again” with my friend and I have fallen in love with the movie. In this post I’ll just describe what I think about the movie without spoiling anything for those of you who haven’t seen it.
It is a story of two broken people (Greta and Dan) brought together by fate or by coincidence. It’s pretty much what you want to see it as. It seems that the unfortunate events that have happened to these two characters all led to this particular night at a bar where they meet each other and from that moment on they become each other’s backbone. I see this movie as, not only a story about the romance, but also as a story about finding your salvation in other people and putting together the pieces of a shattered family. Oh, and have I mentioned that it also happens to be a story about music and its beauty, its healing properties and music industry and its unfortunate state? The movie also makes a clear distinction between musicians who decide to stay true to their artistic vision and authenticity, and those who decide to “sell out.”
All that packed in 104 minutes of one very substantial movie.
My point- go see it! It’s totally worth it!
Love,
Nina
