Hi, how much is the level of obedience and docilty of Laika breeds in average comparated to other primitive dogs as sleddogs types like Siberian Husky, Greenland Dog and Alaskan Malamute?

Compared to the average pet Siberian that most people are familiar with, WSL are much more biddable and a bit less hectic. They are still independent, agile, drivey, LOUD working dogs who need an outlet, but all those "funny" videos of Siberians causing chaos in the average pet owner's home is not typical of a WSL (most are owned by hunters who know how to handle them though). They are closer to a working line Siberian in temperament, however, they can be pretty spicy with other dogs, especially strange dogs. Not all of them are but it's something people should definitely be aware of if they're considering a WSL. They don't do well with harsh handling, I've seen more than a few instances of WSL biting someone who did not respect the dog, so they will stand up for themselves if they feel the need. I've never met a Greenland Dog and have only been around a few Malamutes so I can't make a great comparison to those, but they are somewhat similar to those breeds.

Are Siberian huskies a bit easier to train than malamutes since they are now largely companion bred?

I’d say that’s a pretty big generalization about the breed and not one I’d find accurate. They are still a primitive working breed and have all the quirks that come with that.

Responsible breeders are ideally breeding dogs that are able to and have desire to work in harness and the energy levels and other behavior traits that come with that. Show bred dogs are probably going to be more “chill” than their working bred counterparts, but working drive is something that exists on a spectrum within the breed’s genetics meaning you could easily get a drivey show bred dog and a chill working bred dog. I am personally not going to touch on “pet bred” Siberians because 1.) I rarely see any at all that meet my qualifications for a responsible breeder and 2.) breeding Siberian’s specifically to be an easier pet takes away a lot of their energy and drive to work, something I strongly disagree with.

I would not say that as a rule Siberian’s are easier or more difficult than Malamutes. They are pretty different dogs despite their generalized similar purpose.

Siberians are much smaller and often an easier size for people to manage but they tend to be louder vocally and higher energy overall. Malamutes are more laid back, but much less goofy, they’re a serious dog that can be prone to genetic same sex dog aggression. They are both breeds that are not biddable and require high motivation to do tasks for you, the person. Both breeds are prone to prey drive and wandering. Siberians jump fences, Malamutes dig out of them. Whatever problems Siberians face in modern society, Malamutes often face the opposite.

They are both wonderful breeds, quirky as hell, joyful, friendly with people, and rewarding to work with and they really need you to be a partner with them vs a master. I wouldn’t say that one is easier than the other because what is “easy” for one person is harder for others and vice versa. A Siberian Husky is a Subaru Crosstrek. A Malamute is a Ford F-150. Both are good rugged vehicles, but different people are going to benefit from them for different reasons.

Covid puppy (wasn’t well socialized sadly so she’s reactive to dogs she doesn’t know)

Very sweet and she’s always by my side trying to help around the house

Hates bedtime and will try to hide when I call her

I wasn’t planning on getting her but she was given to us for free because our past neighbors’ dogs (her parents) killed our chickens.

Would trade the world for her.

There is one brain cell in there that occasionally hits the right part.

High energy but lazy.

Howls when she gets excited and everyone thinks it’s hilarious so she does too (big smile every time afterwards)

Sorry for the inactivity. they upped my medication so I've been in basically sleep mode for the past week. Getting used to medication has always been a struggle for me because my body is a jerk and absorbs and processes things faster than it should.

And when I'm not sleeping, I've been at the vet. My puppy tore his ACL while playing with the neighbour's puppy, so we've been having to deal with that. He goes in for surgery next Wednesday. So much for a poor one year old baby. At least Sigurd is getting used to car rides now. Progress there.
