WIP Wednesday 4/12
I'm working on a 5 Times fic wherein Mac has migraines and different people take care of him. This is from the kid!Bozer section:
~~
Bozer glanced at the empty seat to his left and wondered where Mac was.  He'd seen his best friend at lunch, but Mac had never shown up for Math.  It was one of his favorite subjects, and it was unlike him to miss any class.
Then again, Mac had spent most of lunch with his head down, and the hood of his sweatshirt pulled over his eyes.  He hadn't even eaten anything.  While Mac didn't have a huge appetite, he usually ate like half of what was on his tray.
Bozer raised his hand and asked for a bathroom pass.  He figured that Mac was somewhere in the school, and this would give him a chance to look for him.
He checked Mac's locker because he'd been stuffed in there more times than Bozer could count, the science lab that was empty this period, and the gym in case Mac was trying to make indoor lightning again, but Mac wasn't in any of those spots.  Bozer bit his lip and started checking the bathrooms between the gym and their Math class.

(RE)WATCHED IN 2023: Just get a job? Why don't I strap on my job helmet, and squeeze myself down into a job cannon, and fire off into Jobland, where jobs grow on jobbies?!

Yelena: Okay, this is yummy! Why aren’t you digging in?!
Natasha: Oh, I don’t know. Somehow the smell of Mac n Cheese triggers my morning sickness.
Yelena: Ah, I can already tell this child of yours is going to be problematic!

WIP Wednesday 5/31
Happy Wednesday! I've lost all track of days this week and thought it was Tuesday. Here's a bit more of the 'Mac has food poisoning' story from the good old WIP folder.
~~
They hit some traffic between downtown and Mac's house, and Mac had to use the vomit bag a couple of times.  Jack wished he could get out and direct traffic through a tricky intersection.
Instead, he texted Matty to let her know that Mac was sick and that he wouldn't be in the next day.  She texted back a thumbs up, so he set his phone aside and mentally ran through his first aid knowledge about food poisoning and vomiting.  There were some things he'd need to gather once they got to Mac's house.
As soon as Riley parked the van in Mac's driveway, Jack hopped out so he could help Mac inside.  It was slow going, but he finally got Mac sitting on the edge of his bed.
"Is there a thermometer in the bathroom or do I need to go get the one we hide from you so you don't use it in an experiment?"
"Yes," Mac replied, closing his eyes and leaning forward with his arms wrapped around his stomach.
"It wasn't a yes or no question," Jack grumbled as he set a small trash can at Mac's feet. Then, he reluctantly left Mac's side to go into the kitchen and pull the secret thermometer out from behind the silverware drawer organizer.  It was their fourth hiding place, and the most successful one so far.

Rob mcelhenney gaining weight to subvert the sitcom trope of characters getting more attractive as the show goes on is hilarious to me. It backfired so spectacularly. I need fat Mac BAD

to be completely honest, I don't want macdennis in this finale at all. i want den's plot to stay his own. i want the gang to understand just how much they rely on dennis, and how the pressure is finally wearing him down. dennis' inability to escape these high expectations from all of them. of the responsibility that he hates so much. this has been a part of his plotlines for years, and now he can't even take a day trip to the beach without the gang calling him for dumb shit. he's expected to be there to help the gang whenever they need him, but will they be there to help him?

Not to cringepost about problematic old man yaoi, but upon my rewatch of The Gang Inflates.... errrr I'm gonna cringepost about problematic old man yaoi, sorry:(
Dennis, after finding out that Charlie has been hiding a secret room in his apartment, goes "So you truly have no reason to be sleeping with Frank???" before, immediatley (like SO immediatley), throwing out all of his furniture for literally no reason to share an inflatable couch-bed with his roomate while he experiences anaphylaxis.  What is WRONG with you.  When will you be NORMAL.
How, in that man's mind, does it make sense to ridicule Charlie for his behavior, while at the same time consciously and willingly choosing to do something EQUALLY if not MORE unnecessary in order to share a bed with his short-distance high-commitment long-term homosexual roomate.  Truly words cannot express how unecessary throwing out their furniture was.  Not to mention the fact they clearly had more inflatable furniture they could have blown up in order to sleep separatley.  It was a choice and a decision and on purpose. because he felt like it?? he wants to?? for fun???
Buddy don't throw stones from your glass closet.  YOU are the problem

“Waiting for Big Mo” and how it was Mac’s turning point
season 15 macdennis drives me absolutely feral because it’s really all in the subtext. like, someone could watch it with absolutely no context and it would just look completely platonic (save a few scenes here and there).
but with the knowledge of Mac’s love for Dennis, and the way in which he completely shut down any external tell of his feelings after season 14, it’s insane.
I think the turning point for Mac was Dennis’ speech in “Waiting for Big Mo”.
Tumblr media
Yes, within the show they’re talking about laser tag, and it’s obviously a meta reference to Sunny itself, but look how Mac drops his head when Dennis says “What the hell does it matter if you’re not having fun?”
And then “if something deep inside of you is telling you to move on then maybe that’s what we should do.”
Tumblr media
And how Mac gently confirms, “Time to end the game?” And Dennis goes “Time to end the game.”
And yes this turns out to be a misdirect for the laser tag game and for Sunny, but I think this is when Mac finally makes the choice to move on from Dennis.
And you can SEE it, in every scene they have together in season 15, how Mac’s feelings are still there, but he has actively accepted that it won’t happen. He has let Dennis go.
Tumblr media
In season 15, Mac no longer touches Dennis at all, but Dennis is constantly initiating touch with him. When Dennis gets sick with covid, Mac is not taking care of him like he would have in season 14 or taking the opportunity to have Dennis depend on him.
He even makes a frustrated comment when Dennis is coughing in “The Gang’s Still in Ireland”, where he calls Dennis out for having covid. Season 15 Mac acts completely different with Dennis than Season 14 Mac.
And I truly believe that this is intentional in both the writing and in Rob’s acting, and Dennis is going to catch on and start to try to win Mac back in season 16 (even in the subtlest of ways).
