Remembering Marty Krofft 1937-2023
Puppeteer and television creator / producer Marty Krofft has died at 86. Along with his brother Sid, they created so much great children's television, especially in the 70s.

compilation of various Sid and Marty Krofft shows
Many of their shows were ones I got into when I saw them in syndication as a kid, notably The Banana Splits Adventure Hour (NBC 1968-1970), H.R. Pufnstuf (NBC 1969-1970), The Bugaloos (NBC 1970-1972), Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (NBC 1973-1975), Land of the Lost (NBC 1974-1977), and Pryor's Place (CBS 1984-1985). All shows I remember fondly as a kid and really enjoyed watching the wacky almost drug-induced puppets getting into crazy situations each episode. Land of the Lost was one I dug a lot! They also did some shows in primetime non-children's shows like their political comedy D.C. Follies (syndicated 1987-1989), which was pretty funny too.

Marty Krofft (April 9, 1937 – November 25, 2023) Producer and writer who with his brother Sid Krofft produced numerous children's television and variety show programs in the U.S., particularly in the 1970s, including H.R. Pufnstuf, Land of the Lost, and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Their fantasy programs often featured large-headed puppets, high-concept plots, and extensive use of low-budget special effects.
The Kroffts favoured quirky superhero stories, often with children portraying the heroes or part of a hero team. Particularly visionary and popular Krofft productions have included The Bugaloos (1970), Lidsville (1971), Sigmund and the Sea Monsters (1973–1975), Land of the Lost (1974–1976), The Lost Saucer (1975), Electra Woman and Dyna Girl (1976), and Wonderbug (1976–1978).
The Kroffts have occasionally departed from their formula while making new programs, such as on Pryor's Place (1984) and the political puppet satire show D.C. Follies (1987). They have attempted to update some of their classic series for a younger generation, including new versions of Land of the Lost, Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, H.R. Pufnstuf and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. A new original series, Mutt & Stuff, aired on Nickelodeon from 2015 to 2017. (Wikipedia)

Prompt: “Finfolk.” Sigmund! I wasn’t around for this show as a kid, but in the 90s there was a really fun and catchy cover of the theme. Anyway I wanted to draw something less grim—

Hey, @king-luigi-the-first , um, the prompt got a little mixed up on it's way to my camera.
Tumblr media
So, do you ever have two hyperfixations and they just kinda clash after you get told to draw a family beach day? For those of you out of the loop on the boomer side, we saw Mario's younger brother and shipped him with the kidnapping king. For those of you out of the loop on the Bowuigi side, Junior's friend is a little sea monster named Sigmund and he comes from the 1973 show Sigmund and the sea monsters. He is abused by his family and he's my comfort character.
"Why is Sigmund scared?", you might ask. He's scared of Luigi. Why are him and Junior friends? Junior is chaos demon and they balance each other out.
"Why do you want to write a full blown one shot for this even though you're sure no one will ever read it because it's half based on a 1973 show called Sigmund and the sea monsters?" Because I can. And, like, they would adopt little uwu boy. And Luigi would have trauma and Sigmund would have to warm up to him. And then they'd have group therapy. And the Koopas would have no clue why anyone would ever hate their parents.
Listen, no one wants to hear about my comfort character willingly, so I am forcing you to listen. (Bowuigi people please don't hate me!)
