i know i literally just started posting content of my ocs but i wanted to post character descriptions/relationships because……….why not. then they’re here and can be referenced easily lol. everything will be under the cut, thanks for putting up with my oc brainrot the last few days and surely the next few days as well

potentially will add to this as more characters get introduced, but wanted to get the core 4 down

Peter Patrick Byrnes:

28 years old, only child, born June 13th (Gemini) in Belfast, Ireland, but moved to Dublin with his mum shortly before his 9th birthday. Grew up lower-middle class. Highschool dropout. Peter can speak a bit of Irish but he’s nowhere near fluent. Gets kicked out from his mum’s at 27, homeless/motel + couch surfs for awhile before bussing to London to live at Geoffrey’s flat. 5’11”/180cms. Skinny for his age/height, approx 147lbs/10.5 stone. Naturally black hair that he normally pushes up in the front, almost fauxhawk-esque, with tapered sides. Green eyes, wears black-framed glasses. Has a light dusting of stubble. He has an eyebrow piercing on his right brow, studded snake bite lip piercings, double nose rings (one ring in each nostril) plus a septum, a tongue ring, and one singular nipple piercing on the left side. Ears are slightly stretched, roughly a size double 0 (probably just big enough to stick the tip of an index finger through) he wears black tunnels in them usually. He’s heavily tattooed from the neck down, including the tops of his hands and fingers. Sometimes paints his nails black. Most of his tattoos are gray wash, though he does have some coloured tattoos that aren’t as visible/prominent. He plays lead guitar and sings back up vocals. Nice jawline, long sort of thinner nose. Very lean build. Hayfever sufferer. Bisexual. Aggressively Irish LOL. And honestly just an all around shithead. He’s crass, gets in fights, dabbles in drugs, drinks excessively, and smokes like a chimney. He gets into a lot of trouble but is oddly charming.

Geoffrey Thomas Brown Jr.:

29 years old, oldest child (has a younger sister), born December 29th (Capricorn) in London, England. Approx. 5’10”/177cm. He’s a bit heftier than the others. Grew up comfortably middle class. His face is best described as just…long. Smaller chin, long & slightly crooked nose. Ginger hair, bright blue eyes, a scattering of freckles. He likes to style his hair pushed back (think: Alex Turner aka his inspo lol) Easily the glue that holds this shit band together. Extremely nonchalant and casual, genuinely the most average of guys. He is just…SO chill. Plays bass. The token straight. Loves to read and drinks a lot of tea. Big fan of scarves. Allergic to dogs. Has his own flat in London. Originally lived alone but then Peter moved in. Chris stays over often, too. Maurice only on occasion.

Maurice Pierre Blanchet:

28 years old, born August 31st (Virgo) in Paris, France, but moved to Dublin, Ireland with his parents at age 10. Only child. His first language is French, and he’s known for it slipping out when he’s drunk/can’t think of the right English word/stressed out, etc. Learned English in Ireland so he speaks it with an Irish accent. Tallest of the group at 6’3”/190.5cm. Lean/athletic build. Honey-blonde hair that’s usually tousled atop his head or pushed back. Hazel eyes. Strong jaw, long, straight nose. Stereotypically handsome ass dude. His family is rich, and his privileged upbringing reflects that (ex. can play like a billion instruments and sing wonderfully due to years of lessons). His father runs a company and wants Maurice to follow in his footsteps. Maurice ends up choosing to pursue the band instead (music is his passion lollll). His ears are pierced and he switches between small gold hoops or little silver studs. Prone to catching colds, & catches them most often when he’s stressed. (Not ideal when you’re the lead singer of a band!) also plays rhythm guitar. Recently discovered he’s probably bisexual. (Had only ever been with women before Peter.) gets his own small flat when he moves to London but still stays at Geoffrey’s with the others every now and again.

Christopher (Seojun) Michael Lee:

23 years old, born April 7th (Aries) in London, England. 5’7”/170cm & an athletic/lean build. Only child. Chris is half black, half Korean. His mom is from London, his dad from Busan. His legal name is Christopher and he prefers it, but when his dad speaks to him in Korean (or when he interacts with anyone from his dad’s side of the family) he gets called Seojun. Fluent in Korean and English. He has loose curly black hair that is slightly on the longer side. More of a flat, button-ish nose, his eyes are a deep dark brown, almost black in colour. He had a rough childhood due to excessive bullying for being mixed and queer. Chris however, takes absolutely no shit. Relationship stuff to know:

- Peter and Geoffrey have been acquaintances/friends for years. Jam buddies whenever they had chances to get together. Original two who formed The Undergrounds. Peter used to sing lead before he recruited Maurice.

- Peter and Maurice met via a one-night stand. They happened to be at the same pub the night Maurice got dumped by his long-term girlfriend Maeve. Peter managed to seduce him. They exchanged contact info after, Peter found out Maurice was a great singer, asked him to come to London to join his band, Maurice said fuck no. They initially left on bad terms.

- A few months later Maurice reached out asking if the offer still stood, then moved to London shortly after. Peter and him begin hooking up more frequently after that. Maurice is definitely catching feelings.

- Peter called Maurice Murry-rice the first time they met because he thought the way Maurice pronounced his name with a French accent was stupid. Murry-rice eventually morphed to just Murry & sometimes Mur. Only Peter calls him this. Maurice isn’t a fan but has just given up.

- Geoff recruited Chris. He frequented the record store Chris works at, the two got to talking, the rest is history.

- Chris and Peter hooked up one (1) time and then never again. They were drunk.

- Peter and Chris argue a lot because they both have big personalities. It’s mostly all in good fun but sometimes gets out of hand. They have definitely fist-fought before.

- Chris’ parents are in the middle of getting separated. He goes back and forth between living at his mum’s and living at Geoff’s flat.

Fuck it cringe is dead so here’s some brief notes on my own original Fionn and Diarmuid designs

Fionn:

Half-giant, half-human. Towers over most of the human population of Ireland, but hunches in on himself beneath his linen and fur cloak to appear less threatening/intimidating. Wears many layers of bright and colourful clothing, but no armours save for leather vambraces. A full beard, trimmed to show the lines of his jaw and contours of his face. Hair is incredibly long even in its usual intricate styling, easily falling to his knees. Blue-grey eyes, beard is shock white and his hair is silver-white but grey at the roots. 

Strongman build. Voice often described as being lighter than song yet rougher than a river’s current. Surprisingly long fingers given his overall build, and hands are uniquely soft to the touch despite being callous from labour. Wears a lot of rings and has pierced ears and a garnet stud in his tongue

Usually seen with his sword strapped to his hip and his spear sheathed beneath his cloak across his back

Diarmuid:

Technically half-fae and half-human, but inherited none of his human blood. Looms over most of the human population of Ireland, a few inches shorter than Fionn himself. Sharp, blade-like features, with long curly dark hair, plaited or braided and patterened with pearls and diamonds. Dressed in a set of dark green and blue leathers, with a long coat as dark as his hair, and thigh-high heeled boots with jewelled skull-shaped buckles. Skin is a dark woodish brown and his eyes a myriad of unnatural greens that swirl and shift depending on lighting. Always wears a pair of leather gloves. Has claws, a wolf’s jaws and long pointed ears. Lean and athletic build. 

A “handsome amount of stubble” on his jaw and upper lip, his voice is soft and gentle, never louder than a summer’s breeze, yet always commanding of respect. Surprisingly an octave lower than Fionn’s, though most would hardly notice given the volume at which they both talk

Never seen without at least 2 weapons on his person at any given time

Traits they share:

A rather morbid sense of humour, incredibly fond tone of voice when speaking of/to eachother. Inhuman anatomy (shall not be discussed here lol). Both immensely strong and agile. Physically, however, Fionn is the strongest of the two and Diarmuid the more flexible. Both bisexual, with Fionn having a stronger preference for women and Diarmuid having no preference at all. Neither of them ascribes to human gender norms, with Diarmuid being genderqueer and Fionn sitting somewhere in the non-binary spectrum, though both of them mostly use he/him pronouns

How does your character behave around people they like? Emmeline is more relaxed around those she likes. Though she isn’t the most easy-going person in the world, she is more inclined to make jokes, laugh, and not stress as much as she normally does. How quick is your character to suspect someone else? Does this change if they are close with that person? As a rule, Emmeline is very hesitant to trust others. However, once you have her trust, there are very few things you could do to lose it and have her suspect you of something terrible. How quick or slow is your character to resort to physical violence in a confrontation? Words are typically Emmeline’s go-to in a confrontational situation. There have been many instances where she’s eventually just walked away from someone rather than allow things to progress. In extreme instances, hexes and jinxes have been thrown, but as far as she can remember, there has never been anything more than a slap. What is/was your character’s relationship with their father like? It was a very strained relationship, if it could be called a relationship at all. She knew very little about the man he was in his later years, and what she knew of his formative years had only been the result of stories her Gran told her over the years. Is your character more likely to admire wisdom, or ambition in others? Though it generally tends to vary from person to person, she would probably tell you that she admires ambition more often than not. What does your character like in other people? There are a host of things she likes in others, but the first few that come to mind are: the ability to learn from their mistakes, forgiveness, a desire to learn in general, whether or not they are capable of growing as a person, honesty. Compassion for other people. Is your character more likely to keep trying a solution/method that didn’t work the first time, or immediately move on to a different solution/method? A bit of both. Just because her first attempt didn’t work the way she wanted it to, doesn’t mean she’ll abandon it in its entirety. With each failed attempt, an adjustment is made. It’s only once she has exhausted every possible method that she can think of that she will move on to a different one. How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it? Saying “I love you” is one of, if not the most, difficult things for Emmeline to do. She has a problem letting herself love other people; there is a constant fear of abandonment, of not being enough, of disappointing them. She struggles to let those she truly cares for know just how much they mean to her. If she can say it to you, then there’s no chance it’s meaningless. She doesn’t have it in her to force something of that magnitude and not mean it. The only person Emmeline has never struggled with those words over is her Gran. The woman who spent so much of her life trying to instill certain values into her granddaughter. The person who raised Emmeline, who wanted nothing but the best for her. The one person Emmeline always thought would be her only constant, the only person she would be willing to die to protect. When she wasn’t in school or working, Emmeline tried to make it a priority to tell the older woman how much she loved her and appreciated all that she had done over the years

High Jewelry Tiaras

I’ve been wanting to do this series for awhile because I’m often asked who still makes tiaras and what new tiaras are out there that a royal could buy.

In today’s rather tiara-less world it can come as a surprise that jewelers are still making tiaras.  Though they doubtlessly bring in very little money compared to the rest of a jeweler’s business they still bring one very important factor, prestige.  Just like it’s clothing counterpart, haute joaillerie or high jewelry collections are used as a marketing tool for a luxury brand.  The amount of work and expensive materials make the prices so high that only a select few could afford them  So there is huge fanfare in unveiling their new haute joaillerie collection every year but instead of trying to sell that jewelry it’s used as a way to advertise the brand by having their own version of runway shows, promotion in social media, and loaning it out to celebrities on the red carpet.  Then someone like me who certainly can’t afford any of that will go and buy a simple pair of silver stud earrings that are still overpriced given that they don’t even have any gemstones in them.  It’s the same way with haute couture, people can’t afford the spectacular gown they see on the runway or red carpet but they see the gown and then go purchase a pair of shoes or a purse from the brand.  The accessories and ready to wear clothing not the haute couture is how these brands are making money but it is used to raise the prestige of the brand which is very important in the luxury goods market.

It’s very common for jewelry brands to use not only their new collections but the history of the house to raise their profile and make them seem more luxurious or desirable.  Using Garrard as an example, the Entanglement collection is inspired by Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot Tiara, the Albemarle is inspired by the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara, and the new Muse collection is inspired by Queen Alexandra’s diamond stars.  Every other item sold by Chaumet is inspired by Empress Josephine and Cartier has Edward VII’s quote about them being the "the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers” everywhere.

You’ll notice a range in the tiaras featured in the series.  Some are simpler and use less gemstones.  These more affordable tiaras are kept in stock and are more like ready to wear but there are others that use extraordinary stones in interesting designs that are more like the wedding dress at the end of the haute couture show.  Some brands really play up the tiara angle and you can see one in just about all of their advertising campaigns while others, even those known for their tiaras like Cartier, rarely feature them in new collections.  That doesn’t mean that those houses aren’t making tiaras.  It’s just that many of the tiaras being bought today are custom made because if you can afford a tiara, you probably want it to be unique and completely to your taste.  A bespoke tiara at Garrard starts at £150,000-£400,000 and can go up to more than £1m.   While Chaumet, who makes around ten tiaras a year, has stated that their custom tiaras start at €300,000 to €400,000 and the sky’s the limit.

My dudes, it is time for some character development (after I realised Viv didn’t have a character). So I will be writing in the 1500 challenge (1500 words, on a character event inspired by each of these 9 pics), and I have an actual character development sheet. (Big thanks to @carina-go-lightlee for putting the idea of the 1500 challenge on my dash in the first place - go check hers out!)

This is certain to change as time goes on, but for now, meet Viv!

Name: Vivienne ‘Viv’ Strongarm Age: 23 Gender: Non-binary (they/them pronouns) Sexuality: Big gay Race: Irish Appearance Hair: Copper-red, long, most of the way down their back. Usually at least part-braided at the temples. Viv pulls it back into a knot when they have to concentrate. Eyes: Blue Skin: Pale, they’ve got that Irish glow (meaning they burn in 5 minutes flat when the sun is shining). Freckles across their shoulders and arms, a few on their face too. Height: 5’4’’ Build: Viv is fairly fit and slim, with a flattish chest (they don’t often need a binder or bra to hold everything where it should be). They’re lean but with muscles, especially their arms and shoulders. Distinguishing marks: Viv is covered in scars, the legacy of a childhood spent climbing trees, annoying cats and an adult life helping their father as a carpenter. A tattoo of a bow and arrow is on the inside of their upper right arm, and a curled design of wildflowers and ferns on their left hip. Piercings: Four in their left ear (lobe and second lobes, and two helix), three in their right (lobe, second lobe, one helix). One of the helixes has a bar, the other two engraved silver rings, whilst the lobes tend to have small gemstone studs. Clothing: Viv’s keyword when it comes to clothing is ‘practical’, closely followed by ‘tough’. Jeans and leggings are their go-to, coupled with plain-ish tops that don’t show the dirt. Dark, rich colours are their favourite, and they’re not opposed to showing a little skin, but at the end of the day, they want a) something they can move in and b) something where people won’t mess with them. Viv’s got a lotta anxiety, and clothing is part of their armour.

Personality and backstory Likes: Sunshine, thunderstorms, wildflowers, the sea, forests, singing the songs they grew up with. They love archery and riding fast, being free in the open. They love their friends, and feeling safe enough to let their guard down. Dislikes: Cities, being boxed in, rigidity, rules for the sake of rules. Spiders (and bugs generally). Being mocked or patronised. Hobbies: Archery, axe-throwing, photography, watercolour painting, reading. Long walks, being out in nature, swimming. General demeanour: Viv probably comes across as borderline-rude when you first meet them – they’re wary, which comes out as one-word sentences and glaring (Viv’s very good at glaring). However, it’s just that being non-binary, they’re used to judgements and people mocking them, but once Viv knows they have someone’s respect, then the guard comes down. They can be sweet, kind and fiercely loyal (so long as you don’t mind the loyalty coming with a helping of sarcasm). They’re quick to act, logical and stubborn, which has got them into a few messes in the past, but they can (usually) talk their way out of it. Backstory: Viv grew up at the base of the Wicklow Mountains near Kildare, Ireland, with their parents and their older brother, Felix. They went to study sociology at university in Edinburgh, and when they came home, they reunited with their childhood crush, Niamh, and started working alongside their father as a carpenter, making furniture. Everything ticked along nicely for a year or so, until Viv confessed to Niamh that they were non-binary. Unable to get her head around it, Niamh rejected Viv and left them broken-hearted. In a tiny village it was all too easy to bump into her, so Viv took the opportunity to move to Jorvik, to lead trail rides over the summer for Moorland Stables. They only planned on staying a few months, but by the end of summer they’d met the Soul Riders, the Keepers, and had fallen in love with being in a place where no one judged them for who they were. And there was the small matter of a magical prophecy to sort out… Magic: Viv’s speciality is storms. Wind, rain, thunder and lightning – that’s where their real talent lies. A short burst of magic, and their hands flare with blue fractures, lightning coursing through their veins; Longer bursts illuminate their whole body, and as you stare into Viv’s eyes, the only points of darkness as the crackling builds, you realise – you’re fucked. Viv’s worked a lot with Alex to try and control their magic (not that either of them have objected to these sessions) and while they still lose control sometimes, they haven’t accidentally electrocuted James in ages.

Lifestyle Occupation: Viv’s now a shipbuilder by trade, working in Mistfall alongside Sigry Varanger (who finds time to teach Viv whilst she’s not attending to her mayoral duties). Lives at: South Hoof, in a small cottage on the edge of the Hightower Farm. They should live closer to their work, but it’s a nice enough ride over in the mornings, and besides, South Hoof feels like home. The wind and rain might put some people off, but Viv loves it. Friends: Viv’s a bit short on friends – they tend to hold back and back off from people a lot of the time, too worried about being hurt again, but they took an instant liking to Rania Varanger (which is good, considering how much she hangs around the workshop). The Soul Riders immediately befriended them as well – Viv was worried about whether they’d fit into a ‘sisterhood’, but it turns out that’s not an issue. Relationships: Viv and Alex have been tentatively dating for a couple months now. All those training sessions created an electric (I’m sorry) feeling between them, and they finally started dating after Alex pushed Viv over the walls of Fort Pinta. They’re perfectly suited for each other – bold, quick to laugh, devoted, but Viv provides that bit of restraint and down-to-earth-ness that Alex lacks.

Horse Name: Stormsong Breed: Mustang Appearance: Blue roan, with one white sock on her back hoof and a narrow snip on her forehead. Personality: Gentle towards Viv, standoffish with others. She’s proud and likes to be listened to – which is a shame, because Viv has a tendency to jump into things. Stormsong tempers that urge, sometimes literally dragging Viv away from situations by their collar. Viv and Stormsong trust each other implicitly, and no one could come between them. How they met: When Viv first arrived on Jorvik, Justin was a bit puzzled – he has a knack of finding the perfect horse for each rider, but he couldn’t find one for Viv. He eventually paired them up with a dun pinto Jorvik Warmblood, Cloudchaser, and they got on well enough, with Viv eventually purchasing him. However, a few weeks later, Justin came in, very excited, and asked Viv to visit Marley’s farm with him, where a group of mustangs had just arrived. The herd had been rounded up and was originally intended for slaughter, but they were rehabilitated by a charity and a few sent to Jorvik. Justin had seen them arrive, and knew that Stormsong was right for Viv. After some persuasion, Viv mounted up – and realised they never wanted to get out of the saddle again. They immediately bought Stormsong, and they’ve been inseparable since.
