Anyway the ultimate goal of this project is actually similar to that stupid backwards GPGPU/CPU OS idea that wouldn't actually work, except way, way stupider. Stoopid with two Os, to quote Knives Out.
Here's the gist: distributed operating system that runs on a bunch of interlinked TI calculators, using a PC as a sort of hub. (The TI-Link protocol is only bidirectional, but there's no limit to the number of SilverLink USB cables I can plug into the same computer, at least until I run out of USB ports.)
Because TI calculators are both more documented than GPUs (which is to say, there's any documentation), and there actually exist tools for writing low-level code on them, this is actually a doable project. Not easy, but doable. On the order of months to years instead of decades to centuries.
Additionally, I won't actually be writing any "real" ring 0 code (or 68k/z80 equivalent) for this project, basically just treating each machines' resident OS as an overwrought BIOS--which, on a calculator running machine code, it might as well be. As a distributed OS, the "machine" would already be highly virtual, and there are a lot of benefits to sticking to userspace.
For one, I don't want to brick any of my hardware; writing dodgy code to any of my calculators' flash memory would absolutely do that. For another, I don't want to write my own USB stack. Also, rebooting is annoying. Especially if it involves, like, four different machines. And debugging will be easier. And so on and so forth.
Here's a rough roadmap for how I want to get familiar with this toolchain:
Write an echo program that uses the TI PLT-KBD, a product you've never heard of. Maybe turn it into a full keyboard driver, if I feel like it.
Do the same, but with a TI-92+. Would involved remotely loading a simple program onto the calculator to tell it to send keycodes over the link port. Again, if I feel like it could be turned into a full input driver.
Write a simple, but non-trivial program that uses the TI-92+ as an "accelerator", maybe Conway's game of life. Would also involve remotely loading code.
Do the same as 3, but with two calculators--the TI-92+ and TI-89, maybe. At this point I'd have to buy more SilverLink cables, so this is the point of no return. (They go for like $20.)
Same as 4, but integrating a Z80 calculator too, probably the TI-83+.
Start working on the "OS" proper.

Another one of my most anticipated shows of the year is here. Tearmoon empire is a LN that always gets recommended for some good world and kingdom building and I’m excited to see it animated
Tumblr media
Similar set up to lastame last season in that both MCs want to change the situations that led to them being hated by their subjects, but unlike Pride, Mia Luna just doesn’t want to die. She hasn’t really changed yet 😂 also a lot more light hearted than lastame.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The potential for Mia’s growth is there though for sure. The way she treated Anne once she remembered how kind Anne had been to her in the past life for example.
Really bittersweet flashback there. The fact Anne kept coming to see her for years after her incarceration was really beautiful. She definitely deserves to be handmaid and to get to call the princess ‘Mia’. Can’t imagine there’s a more loyal person in that palace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course the other maids hating on Anne after that seemingly random promotion lol
Tumblr media
Mia’s got a lot of work to do. Learning the ins and outs of politics and economics won’t be easy to do, but I believe in her.
Nice first episode, silverlink had an amazing run from 2019-‘21 so here’s to hoping they recapture that form
EDIT: ok the finance minister dude might give Anne a run for her money lol

The Clientele- I Am Not There Anymore (Merge Records)
Tumblr media
I was extremely excited to hear about a new Clientele release, especially when I noticed that there were nineteen new songs!! They began recording it in 2019 and it is well worth the wait. I loved the “Bluer Over Blue” video (watch below), but what I did not know was that there were many short interludes throughout the album. Nevertheless; those short pieces are gorgeous mood setting masterpieces interspersed at just the right moments. Anyway, The Clientele are back, as a three piece again; Alasdair MacLean on vocals, guitars, tapes, beats, bouzouki, Mellotron, and organ; James Hornsey plays bass and piano; and Mark Keen on drums, percussion, piano, and celesta.
The album starts off with a whopping eight-minute jam, “Fables of the Silverlink.” You’ll notice right off the bat; the strings kick in immediately. Beats, horns, many additional touches this time around. But still a gorgeous melody and Alasdair’s soft vocals that fans love. Despite its length, it’s a song that you wish wouldn’t end.  Next up, “Radial B” is the first of many beautiful interludes that carry this work of art. “Garden Eye Mantra” is a slower, bluesy piece filled with delicate guitar that sort of meanders its way until a distortion of sound kicks in along with Alasdair’s rapid-fire vocals. “Lady Grey” is a bouncy, string-filled number. A gorgeous melody with nice piano touches.  “Dying in May” is a rat-a-tat percussion battle with strings and shouting vocals. It’s almost tribal sounding with a “Tomorrow Never Knows” vibe, but with The Clientele’s spin on it. See if you agree here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrG7DghQby8
“Conjuring Summer In” is a short, beautiful piano piece with the spoken word of non-Clientele Jessica Griffin that eventually lets the strings take over.  The first single, “Blue Over Blue, ” is a faster battle between delicate and fuzzy spurts of guitar. Then the horns and strings swoop in until a seesaw organ takes over.  Watch the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-YpCcy05OA   Up next, “Radial E,” by far my favorite interlude; solo, gorgeous piano. “Claire's Not Real” is classic Clientele complete with intricate guitar work along with swirling strings. Check it out here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_r9NgWnPYo
Next up is “My Childhood,” an eerie reading (courtesy of Griffin again) with psychotic strings rising and falling. “My childhood is this familiar life which seems to be but is not.” This line pretty much sums up what this song is trying to get across. Definitely the most unusual piece on the album.  Track 13, “Chalk Flowers,” is another softer beauty. Simple piano, strings, and Alasdair’s vocals. Possibly my favorite on this album. “Hey Siobhan” is another pretty song that expands with soaring harmonies.  With “Stems of Anise,” the guitar takes center stage with an almost bossa nova rhythm section. Another bouncy gem that will cheer you up.  “Through the Roses” slows things down a bit, but another amazing, dreamy pop song to add to their massive catalog.  Next up is “I Dreamed of You, Maria.” This is a horn-filled, rattling snare drum track filled with elaborate guitar work. Another beauty. The album ends with “The Village Is Always on Fire.” Yes, the nineteenth track unfortunately brings this album to a close. It begins with a cinematic scene complete with more “My Childhood…” readings and then the strings pop in for a battle with the rhythm section, especially the snare. It eventually fades out and the sadness of the album ending sinks in.
It’s best to capture the brilliance of this album by listening to it all in one sitting, maybe even with headphones if you can. It’s also difficult to pull out one track without wanting to listen to more of this album. More great news, the band is embarking on a US tour later this summer in August. Hoping to catch them in Chicago to see how they will perform these new songs live. I think the first time I saw them was in Madison at High Noon Saloon in 2007 with Beach House opening. I ended up seeing them again there in 2010 with Field Music opening. (I did see them in Chicago at Schuba’s also, but who knows when that was.) The point I’m making is that it’s been way too long since I’ve seen them live.   ERIC EGGLESON

Yesterday I kept getting this really weird bug where the occasional bulk read from the SilverLink cable would a 0x00 byte prepended. It was throwing off the synchronization between i68apollo and i68soyuz, so I spent several hours investigating and writing some rudimentary logic to repair the packets (or at least re-sync) and prepared to spend most of today improving that packet repair logic--maybe even sacrificing latency to introduce an ACK-NACK system--but now it's not happening at all.
The byte stream is 100% accurate and reliable again--like it was the day before yesterday. Even if I checkout what I thought were buggy commits, there's no problems.
I can only assume that something went wrong with the Linux USB subsystem when I upgraded my packages yesterday. Guess I can throw out that packet repair code now.

Finally after 4 years we’re back 😭 man life was so different when this show first aired.. peak pandemic eats. But after Sazane sensei last work, God’s Games we play flopped, I’m glad to have his main work back. We also have one more of his series getting an anime this season “why does nobody remember me in this world” so big season for him coming up.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the first ep back of kimisen, man I can’t lie, I don’t really remember any of this stuff and it feels like they threw us right back into things with the 3 royal families, the war between the sovereignty and empire, etc etc. All I really remember is that Alice and Iska had the Romeo and Juliet star crossed lovers thing going on and that her sister was sweet on iska too 💀 . A recap episode definitely would’ve been nice.
Pacing just feels very fast, but I did enjoy seeing all the characters back, especially sisbel whose determination to not give up the throne or Iska to her sister was cute. Alice being all flustered in bed wondering what Sisbel and Iska were up to was also good. This man’s harem is expanding by the day. And it’s fitting the episode ends on a chance encounter between Alice and Iska just like s1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopefully next episode’s editing is a bit better and they take it slower. Had to pause and rewind several times to understand everything with the imposter and royal families.
Tumblr media
I miss SilverLink’s style for sure but if the banger of an OP is any indication, the fights this season should be awesome.
