Bridgerton Cast possible appearances in May

With April coming to a close let's look ahead to where we will - or might - see the Bridgerton cast during May.

Early on in May is the Miami Grand Prix where we are looking forward to an appearance by Simone, she will be promoting her movie F1 with Kerry Condon and Jerry Bruckheimer and they join Toto Wolff and George Russell for a discussion in the lead up to the Miami Grand Prix.

Will we then see Simone at the Met Gala immediately after the Miami Grand Prix? Lewis Hamilton is a co-chair of this year's Met Gala, and it is rumoured that Damson Idris will be attending, so that alone gives hope that Simone might be in attendance as well, however, Vogue India went one step further with this where they heavily suggest Simone will be in attendance. But is there a chance that other cast members (or former cast members) might be in attendance? Nicola Coughlan is a one time attendee, but did not go last year when expected, so I think that she most likely will not be in attendance. Phoebe Dynevor has attended as a guest of Charlotte Tilbury for the last three years so may make a fourth appearance, Rege Jean Page is a two time attendee, and considering the theme could be a possible attendee this year. Jonathan Bailey is also a two time attendee but he won't be in attendance however as Richard II will still be on until 10 May.

Jonathan Bailey isn't the only one that will be on stage in May as Bessie Carter will be in the play Mrs Warren's Profession, starring alongside her mother (and acting legend) Imelda Staunton, starting on 10 May and going through to August.

Staying with Theatre, Hannah Dodd will make her West End debut in Cabaret at the KitKat Club in London. An Oak Tree is being performed at the Youn Vic with several Bridgerton cast making a one night only appearance on surprise dates, from what I understand it won't be announced who is performing ahead of time, so getting tickets is a lucky dip. The Bridgerton cast due to perform are Luke Thompson, Adjoa Andoh and Lorraine Ashbourne.

Nicola Coughlan is expected at the BAFTA TV Awards where she is nominated for Big Mood, and at the end of the month she will be in conversation with Lenny Abrahamson at the Fastnet Film Festival in Ireland.

There may (or may not) be appearances from other Bridgerton cast at the BAFTA TV Awards, but it is possible that Luke Newton may appear.

Katie Leung will attend the Bahrain Comic Con 2&3 May.

Simone Ashley is shaping up to be the most visible Bridgerton cast member in May, in addition to the Miami Grand Prix (and hopefully the Met Gala), Simone will be at the women in Film conference at Oxford University which she is headlining alongside Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and whilst not an official event Simone is also running the Hackney Half Marathon in support of Parkinsons UK. April Round Up

Which of the Bridgerton Cast were out and about in April?

Bessie Carter was doing press with her mother for their play Mrs Warren's Profession, including an appearance on the One Show on BBC.

Bessie was also in attendance at the Olivier Awards where we also saw Jonathan Bailey presenting an award on his night off from Richard II.

Katie Leung and Adjoa Andoh were in attendance and presented (separately) and the BAFTA Games awards. Katie also attended the Cartier Private View event at the V&A Museum.

Speaking of BAFTAs, Nicola Coughlan was at the Nominees Party for the BAFTA TV Awards, and earlier this week she accepted an award at the CannesSeries Festival - a precursor to the main Cannes event.

Sam Phillips was in attendance at Comic Con in Romania as a host, and we saw Chris Fulton at Land Con (for Outlander) in Paris as well.

Bridgerton Sisters Hannah Dodd and Phoebe Dynevor were out and about in the USA during April, with Hannah attending the Ralph Lauren Fashion show in NYC and Phoebe supporting her fiancee at the premiere of his moving Drop the Movie.

Finally Simone Ashley was keeping a relatively low profile, but she did attend the Watches and Wonders event in Geneva to promote IWC Watches as part of their collaboration with F1 the Movie.

Eleora barely read the death notice before it fell from her hands, watching it gracefully fall to the floor as she clutched her face and wailed, barely hearing the concerned voices of her daughter and goddaughter as they ran over to see what was the matter. 

Giselle found her brother alone in his office, sobbing incoherently. She gathered him in her arms, hugging him tightly as tears fell from her own eyes. And when he fell to the floor, the weight of his grief too unbearable to stand, she, the youngest sister, held her older brother on the dirty grainy floor, thinking of her nephew, dead.  

The news that Lydia and Simon-Elliot had been married for over a year seemed minuscule for Henry and Xiufang as they tried to console their now-widowed daughter.

Possible flashbacks of Sophie’s childhood: There are two actors who follow each other on IG that could be playing the Penwood (Arthur Lee) and young Sophie (Chloe Park: please do not repost her social media). Rumored young Sophie also follows Shondaland and Bridgerton IGs.   

Sophie "Baek" background. Sophie has a Korean last name but we don't know if that's from her mother or something her dad made up. His last name was Gun (as far as I understand, also a Korean last name), but her stepsisters' last name is Chinese (Li).

Masquerade: Most likely in E1 because it's the season's first ball. It's the place where “attendees are encouraged to transform into whomever they choose”.

It seems that Benedict arrives late to the masquerade ball.

Benophie dance lesson is switched from the terrace to inside a gazebo. One of Sophie's gloves is *involved*. We still don't know how but probably as in the book (i.e. Cinderella's shoe). Sophie's dress is regency style. Benedict's costume is all black or dark brown.

Lake scene. Since both Yerin and Luke have already talked about this I think it's safe to say it will be the big talking point in the season's promo with the Masquerade.

There will be a Xiangqi game, a popular Chinese board game.

Benedict's bachelor place: Confirmed thanks to the designer's mood boards on Pinterest).

Kilmartin Estate in Scotland will also be featured (also from the designer's mood boards in Pinterest).

Both Li sisters will debut at the same time.

Rosamund is vain and Araminta's favorite. She tries to win Benedict, who is "the ton’s most eligible (if totally reluctant) bachelor".

Posy is kinder, chatty, overly friendly and socially embarrassing. According to Wei, Posy goes “on a nice journey” throughout the season. 

Leung: Araminta is fabulous, discerning, blunt and does "not respond well when anything -or anyone- threatens her standing in society". She is a "mother-slash-villain" and would “never call her evil because I adore her – I think she’s absolutely fabulous. She’s just heavily misunderstood”. She is also "feeling the pressure to get at least one of her girls married of" and “chemes to marry off one… to Benedict Bridgerton”.

Leung said Araminta’s costumes “are something else”.

Eloise, Francesca and John return to London, specifically to Bridgerton house.

According to Andoh, there is a garden party in E1 or E2. Not sure if Danbury is hosting that party.

The Demimonde is back. We have seen the Demimonde in Granville's parties in S1.

The story most likely begins in spring (social season's time) but there will be a time jump to autumn. There are leaked photos of the Bridgerton house with changing seasons. In an interview, Brownell mentioned how this will “open the Bridgerton world: this could mean the autumn, the countryside or the working class with a main character (or all three at the same time).”

Benedict will begin the season "aimless" and "loveless". Despite "his elder and younger brothers both being happily married, [he] is loathe to settle down"

Benedict’s fluidity will be explored.

Sophie doesn't know how to dance.

Ha: Sophie "craves and yearns for love despite all of her trauma and neglect". She is "a victim of tragic circumstances" and "has trouble trusting others". She has "been forced to work as a maid for one of the most demanding employers in the ton… [but] her resourcefulness helps her persevere".

Thompson: Benedict is "a man of many interests, and that’s great in some ways, and in some ways, though, can betray a sense of being lost or a little bit restless. And that goes quite deep… There is clearly something in him that’s not very comfortable, a bit scared or a bit worried about the idea of really committing to something. And that’s partly the struggle".

Sophie's decision to disguise herself in order to attend the masquerade will be "risky". This probably means they are following the part of the book where Araminta throws her out into the street after the ball.

We'll see a "shift" in Benedict when he meets a "mysterious lady in silver". He will "find himself on the hunt for Sophie".

Sophie is not "like the debutantes that usually populate Bridgerton". There is a "sincerity of her face".

Love at first sight trope confirmed: Sophie's decision also means that "both lives [hers and Benedicts] are forever changed" after the ball. Ha described it as "prismatic… when the light comes in and then it goes into a rainbow".

Ha: The season will be an "emotional tug of war, this kind of push and pull between what their hearts desire and what society desires for them".

Thompson: Also a "struggle between a proper old-school fairy tale -the romance of it- and the actual reality of the world… both are true. You have to hold both of them -the romance and the reality- in your hand. In its best version, 'true love' happens in the middle of that".

Sophie will struggle with her own mask because of the "battle of social status" or when she is "trying to hide her feelings from Benedict".

Upper and lower class trope: Confirmed. Ha: "It is the first time we really see the upper and lower class come together this season… My character is someone who constantly has her guard up. She… is always reminded of her place and doesn’t dream of more than her station as a maid. However, she is human after all, and craves that human-to-human love and connection. And it’s not until she meets Benedict that she slowly lets her guard down, bit by bit, and starts to create space to let love flow in for her."

GALLERY WEEKEND FESTIVAL

16 & 17 September 2023

Hosted by Studio Mondial at the former Hotel Mondial on Kurfürstendamm, the festival offered a multifaceted program of performances, screenings, sound events, readings, and installations that will bring the lobby, the former restaurant, both hotel bars, the courtyard, and the underground parking garage.

The program kicked off at midday on Saturday with alternating performances and readings on the indoor and outdoor stages by Yi Ten Lai, daniel ward, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger, Ana Prvački, Angharad Williams, Nicholas Grafia, and Mikołaj Sobczak, as well as a conversation between Nora Turato and author Stephanie LaCava. The afternoon will feature sound performances by Leyla Yenirce with Vienna Gist, Susan Philipsz with Luca Diebold, and Theresa Patzschke and Eleni Poulou, as well as a performance and a DJ set by Maque Pereyra.

The festival recommenced at noon on Sunday in front of the hotel building on Kurfürstendamm with a sound performance by DAF (Dynamische Akustische Forschung), readings by Philipp Simon and Sofia Defino Leiby, a new choral piece by the BWŁKS Choir, a text and and music-based performance by Raphaela Vogel with Juliane Liebert and Daniel Roth, followed by a extension of the film by Elisa Giardina Papa feat. the musician duendita, a sound performance by Leda Bourgogne, a reading by Karl Holmqvist, and a performance by Anna Ehrenstein with Göksu Kunak and Yara Mekawei that oscillated between text and sound. FRANKIE brought the program to a close with a cello and vocal performance.

Films were shown on both days in two separate screening rooms that were formerly the hotel bars. The shorter films ran on a loop throughout the day, with contributions from Peter Wächtler, Nina Könnemann, Kandis Williams, Isabell Heimerdinger, Jordan Strafer, Pauline Curnier Jardin, Eli Cortiñas, Juliette Blightman, Penny Goring, Peter Friedl, Christopher Aque, Leyla Yenirce, Adrian Ganea, and Cornelia Schleime.

The long films were screened once a day at fixed times. The program featured films by Heike Baranowsky, Ulla von Brandenburg, Peggy Buth, Stephanie Comilang, Michael Franz, Christopher Aque, Elisa Giardina Papa, Loretta Fahrenholz, Cemile Sahin, Jenkin van Zyl, Su Yu Hsin, Britta Thie, and Friedrich Kunath.

Additionally, installations and sculptural works were presented in both the interior and exterior spaces. Towards Ku’damm, Dan Peterman’s modular sculptures invite the public to enter the building; Raul Walch’s site-specific intervention, a textile banner stretching across the entire facade of the former hotel, draws attention to the festival from a distance while simultaneously referencing its surroundings – West Berlin’s popular shopping district with its numerous clothing stores. In the lobby, festivalgoers encountered both of Max Paul’s Berlin Beds: in addition to their obvious modernist echoes of Mies van der Rohe, the works allude to Berlin’s ongoing obsession with demolition and construction, a phenomenon that has clearly affected the former Hotel Mondial. Jasmin Werner drew direct comparisons to the United Arab Emirates with its architecture and power structures fueled by globalization. In the hotel reception, visitors could listen to Jenna Sutela’s sound work over the telephone and view works by Laure Prouvost and Asta Gröting; a nearby textile wall work by Ulla von Brandenburg invited visitors to pause. Waiting to be discovered in the stairwell was a sound installation by Jan St. Werner that acoustically and spatially expands the exhibition venue.

On view in the entrance area were two video works by artists Taína Cruz and Petra Cortright. Four glass vitrines feature ceramic works, drawings, and installations by Ghislaine Leung, Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann, Lena Henke, and Galli. The former restaurant presented sculptural works by Nadira Husain, Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili, Anna Ehrenstein, Yi Ten Lai, Frieda Toranzo Jaeger, Lap-See Lam, and Raphaela Vogel – some of these were activated by performances during the festival.

Artistic interventions by Fortuna Forest and Lila Steinkampf welcomed visitors to the courtyard, while Monty Richthofen’s tattoo studio and an installation by Anne Duk Hee Jordan occupied the underground parking garage.

The bookstore a.p. was on site selling publications by participating artists and other selected books.
