Alexandrea Cole Morales: 1940s Lookbook

A later 1940s lookbook for Alexandrea Cole Morales in her mid-adulthood years. By the end of the decade, Alexandrea has achieved some success as a Hollywood actress. Widowed during World War II, she has found a second chance at love and began dating her fellow actor, Vito Ferraro. She is the parent of two children, teenage Salvador and preteen Gloria. In contrast to the wartime years, Alexandrea now wears fuller skirts and longer dresses, especially for formal events. (I haven't been able to feature all of Alexandrea's many looks in-game yet but hopefully will showcase them more as the decade nears a close!)

1890-1940 // portraits of lilith vatore

I wanted to try making wall decorations, so I made these and threw them into that massive painting from Vampires. It's sort of a mini decades challenge going from 1890-1940. Behold, the result:

My hc is that the Vatores were born in the late 1930s/early 1940s, so Lilith isn't actually old enough to have worn any of these clothes when they were first in style. I think she dressed up like it's old times and took a buncha pictures just to confuse people trying to figure out how old she is, but you may draw your own conclusions.

PASSENGERS TO THE TRAIN! LAST CALL FOR PASSENGERS TO BRINDLETON BAY!

The latest update completely broke my game, it would launch and then get stuck on the loading screen forever... so I had the pleasurable task of uninstalling and reinstalling everything, which no kidding took about four and a half hours considering all the DLCs I have. However, having to wait and not being able to play gave me an opportunity to really think about what I wanted to build next for this crazy 1920s, '30s & '40s Save File Project I'm determined to finish someday, and suddenly it came to me: a train station, duh!

So here it is, introducing Columbia Station, located in the heart of Del Sol Valley:

One of my favorite books ever is Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express. I remember reading it for the first time when I was about 7 years old and going to bed absolutely terrified yet wanting to know what was going to happen next, so naturally it has always been a dream of mine to someday be able to book a ticket for the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. You can imagine how much fun I had building this while living my best film noir fantasy! Plus, I thought having a vintage train station in the save file would make for great storytelling.

The train itself (which I decided to call Grand Express, as you can see in the pics) has two functional wagons:

The first one is a Compartment coach, with three identical compartments. For the interiors in both wagons I mostly used @lilis-palace's Intarsia Moderne & Wainscot Wonderland sets. That varnished wood kinda look was absolutely perfect for what I had in mind:

2. The second wagon, on the other hand, couldn't be anything but a bar. Featuring @littledica's Art Deco Lounge bar as the signature piece, I took inspiration yet again from the actual Orient Express bar and decided to go for colder, blue tones:

I'm far from being done with this build, but I simply couldn't hold my excitement and had to show you guys how it's going. Next it'll be the station itself, I've build the exterior but gotta work on the interiors... I wanna set the lot as a Café so we shall see how that turns out!

I'll keep you guys posted and until then, pray for my game to not break again! Lol

Fedoras, trench coats, Hollywood glamour, and American patriotism, it’s the 1940s! WWII had a huge effect on the fashion of the 40s. Rationing meant people were encouraged to wear utilitarian garments with less fabric. Wide-legged high waisted pants were popular on men and women, as the war necessitated more women to enter the workforce, often working in factories.

the first half of the 1940s was, of course, dominated by world war two. just as with world war one, more women were involved in the war effort, and those who weren't often took the jobs dominated by men. icons such as rosie the riveter propagated a sort of idealized "tough girl" image, with her denim coveralls and clenched fists – yet red lips, defined lashes, and thin brows. she was just masculine enough to fit the mold of serving one's country, and still feminine enough for the general public to accept. once again, fabric rationing led to certain garments and styles being reused and revamped. some designers, like claire mccardell, worked within the confines of wool and silk rationing to create clothing made of denim and jersey knits. "ready-to-wear" clothing was becoming more popular, especially in the united states, allowing fashion trends to spread faster and further than before. at the end of the decade, christian dior debuted his "new look", which would set the stage for the iconic mid-century silhouette: cinched waists (thanks a lot, dior...), full skirts, and round shoulders. this "new look" emphasized the stereotypical ideal of femininity and ruled post-war fashion.

okay, maybe the tangent about claire mccardell wasn't that important, but i did just see a museum exhibit about her, so i wanted to include it.

(ps. i know 1942 isnt entirely accurate but it was a fit of inspiration, and it takes like 20 minutes to get my game open so i was not willing to exit when i already had two looks done)

A girl with a flair for the elegant, Gloria likes the fuller skirts that characterize the shift from postwar fashion approaching the economic boom of the 50s. As a toddler, Gloria dealt with wartime rationing and the loss of her father, Héctor, and has been raised by her mother, Alexandrea, with her older half-brother Salvador, in Los Angeles. Gloria's traits are Outgoing and Materialistic.

Third and final part of the series! A decade-by-decade view of the Vatore siblings covering 1890-1940. I hc them as having been born in the late 1930s/early 1940s, so to me this isn't actually a record of their life but rather just a photoshoot of the two of them playing dress-up. Sibling bonding!

First townies for my Vintage Save File have arrived y'all, yay!

I decided to build the first residential lot for my "1920s, '30s & '40s Save File" and finally added some townies to it, so introducing... Emerald Avenue! A collection of three beautiful, affordable shotgun houses inspired & built in the traditional style of New Orleans, featuring @pierisim's gorgeous Maison Meulière Exterior Set and packed all in one residential lot for your enjoyment!

First on the left we have Number 6, home to the honorable Dr. Wyatt O'Connery:

I won't be showing you guys the interior on this post as it isn't finished quite yet (I really want the houses to reflect the owner's personality and lifestyle, so it's taking me a while lol), but I will introduce you to Dr. O'Connery:

As you've probably already guessed, Dr. Wyatt O'Connery is the most well known, respected & inquisitive doctor in Del Sol Valley, even though he has barely been in town for a little over a year! His traits are Brave, Intellectual & Faithful (yes, they are CC traits), his aspiration is Nerd Brain and most importantly... he's single and ready to mingle, y'all! Will he stay that way and focus on his career, or will he find that special someone? It's up to you!

Next door, on the 8th, we've got the lovely Debenhams ladies!

This household includes Mrs. Ethel Debenham and her young, beautiful daughter Lila. But before we get to meet them, let's see their house, shall we?

The Debenham's home features an open concept kitchen (quite modern for the '30s, ya know?), a fully equipped bathroom & two bedrooms. Wanna play a game? Let's see if you guys can gather what they each do for a living just by taking a peek at their bedrooms:

Okay, okay... maybe guessing Mrs. Debenham's one wasn't as easy, but what if I show you guys the backyard?

You got it! Remember that little Flower Shop I showed you guys a couple of posts ago, the one by Landgraab Square? That's right, Mrs. Debenham owns it! She LOVES gardening, her traits are Charming, Loyal & Overachiever (again, the first two are CC traits), her Aspiration is @simwithshan's Housewife Aspiration and here is her lookbook (I mostly used my favorite CC CAS creators, @gilded-ghosts & @happylifesims):

And last but not least, the breathtaking Lila Debenham! If you paid attention to her room, you'd probably guessed her Aspiration is to become a Bestselling Author, her traits are Romantic, Bookworm & Shy and she may or may not have a crush on Dr. O'Connery... but don't tell her I told you! It's the 1930s and interracial couples are kind of forbidden. Will she gather the courage to make a move on him? And if so, how will they keep their love a secret? Here's her lookbook:

And the last home on Emerald Avenue is number 10, which is actually empty! If this save file ever sees the light of day, you guys will be able to create your own sim/household, move them next door and create your own story! Who wouldn't wanna have a doctor, a florist and a writer as neighboors? :)

I love sci-fi, I love the 1940s - how about we mash them together? The Closet Historian has been a great inspiration for many years, she perfectly melds retro and futuristic styles into wholly unique outfits, and her lookbooks were a huge influence on today's project.
