Styling in My Mahabharat

I am a person with wild dreams. And one of my wildest dreams is making my own Magnum Opus on Mahabharat, which focuses specifically on Abhimanyu & Uttara. The story is being written by me, and I am doing my best for all of it. Styling, is something that I am focusing on, as it makes me happy.

I am not the biggest fan of the clothing in Star Plus Mahabharat because:

The clothing was too simple. Only the borders had designs.

The clothing was repeated a bit too much, where was the variety?

The jewelry clearly seemed...phony. Rich n royal=/= heavy gold tbh.

So, I watched some styling videos of many period films, and here I am, with my ideas!

First of all, we need to incorporate materials like silk, cotton and muslin. These three should be the primary, and the difference b/w the three can clearly show a difference in hierarchy. Muslin can be shown to be worn during the night/summers.

We have Banarasi and Kanjivaram sarees, we have Bandhni and Patola prints, we have zari work. I would def include these in the costumes.

For jewelries, simple, but designs from various parts of the country will look good. One or two heavy necklaces are enough, IMO, to show the grandeur of the era. Plus other jewelries like hair ornaments, earrings, bangles, armbands and kamarbandhas are here.

Different designs of armor for the men are a must, probably modelled after what Arjun wore in Star Plus Mahabharat. His armor suited his body type, and looked very good on his figure, over all.

Hairstyles have to include flower ornaments like gajra. They are not worn on "wedding nights" pls, how do these ppl find flowery stuff romantic when someone else is wearing it?!

And now, I shall style my main characters, Abhimanyu and Uttara. If this is successful, I shall do the others too-

Abhimanyu

This is gonna be pretty short. What are the main things for styling a male?

I imagine Abhimanyu with long hair, not too long, but till his neck. Not completely straight, slightly wavy.

One thing I love about StarBharat is the tilaks they have done, for the Kuru men, with the moon and other designs. I will keep that one for sure.

Since Abhimanyu has lived majority of his life in Dwarka, some traditional prints/jewelry designs of Gujarat/Maharashtra will be a great inclusion.

As for ornaments, nothing particular is necessary, except two bracelets, one neckpiece, and two earrings. My headcanon has Abhimanyu wearing an armband, and a single ring.

And colors...hmm, purple is a good option, as that color is associated with royalty. The color blue is a great choice, since it symbolizes freedom and sensitivity, as well as faith and stability. Red is a must, as it is associated with bravery, and dark red means vigor, willpower, and rage. Abhimanyu is canonically short tempered, his name means "extremely wrathful". And red is associated with sacrifice as well, so it is def his color.

As I am going to show Abhimanyu be 21, his headpiece in the armor from StarBharat goes away, as it gives him a boy-ish look. Without it, however, changes his look completely, and I don't want anything in his outfit making him seem boy-ish.

Uttara

Uttara's details in my mind are far different from what is shown in StarBharat. I have kept the same cast as they look cute together in my story, yes, and I hate Uttara's styling.

Her clothing is exquisite, just like her mother's. Matsya is canonically rich, and her maternal side is from Kekaya, what do you expect? Uttara's clothes are flowy, to allow easy movements.

The material of the fabric will be silk, with Kanjivaram, Zari and Banarasi type of embroideries on them. I am showing Matsyadesa to have a riverine trade route, so she should have access to all types of fabrics. Some traditional Rajasthani prints have to be there too.

Jewelry is not too much, but well made and designed. Uttara is interested in dressing up, and it is obvious that she shall have a large collection of ornaments.

The colors shall be pink, as it symbolizes innocence and softness, off white and yellow, which symbolize purity and joy respectively, and blues, lemons and greens as well. Her color scheme rarely has dark shades, as it is symbolic.

Her hairstyles range from a braid, to a bun and a bun with a braid coming out of it (kind of like the typical dance hairstyle).

Sindoor is a must, and there are no veils here. Uttara does own various mini-chudamani style ornaments, which she wears from time to time. Blouses are strapless mostly, some times some of them have straps.

Wedding Aesthetics: Dazai

A/N: This was requested by @pompompurin1028 I think Dazai is definitely on the more non-traditional side of things. He wants his wedding to be less about the expectations people will have about the wedding and more about just celebrating the things he and his S/O love. He wouldn't want a huge fuss made about planning this or that, but he would absolutely want to be the one making the fuss over his S/O. This is a man who practices some vows in front of a mirror, but just ends up winging it at the alter pouring his entire heart out, while pretending he isn't tearing up. And he knows his S/O will do the same. I think he would pick sky blue as his wedding color, telling his S/O that they've opened up the sky for him.

If his S/O is fem: He wants his S/O to be relaxed and confident in a dress that is uniquely her. I think he'd like something a little more casual, but wouldn't mind seeing some skin. Something his S/O can slip into and out of quite easily. Also something she can move and dance and run around with him in. He just wants her to feel like herself. If she isn't someone who is usually dolled up, then he doesn't want her to change her usual routine. He might like a little extra attention to his S/O hair so he can run his fingers through it and watch it move with her when they dance.

If his S/O is masc/Dazai's clothes: This man wants to wear matching outfits with his masc S/O, please just let him. He wants to feel like a unit, like the two of them are halves of one whole. Life makes sense with him by his side and he wants to show the world. Dazai would like his S/O to wear white with him. Dazai thinks he looks good in white and he wants to look attractive to his S/O on their wedding day. Dazai probably wouldn't get a suit that is too restricting or has too many layers since he wants to play around and have fun with his S/O. I think a nice button up and a suit vest would be his top pick, since he can also comfortably wear his bandages underneath. He would probably prefer to wear his normal trousers, but in matching colors with his S/O. He would also do that sideswept hairstyle(like in dead apple). Please, the man even showered for the occasion!

Bouqet/ Boutonniere: Dazai is tasking Kenji with handpicking the bouquet and boutonniere flowers. He thinks that the natural look of the wild flowers complements the wild look he sometimes sees in his S/O's eyes. He also thinks that hand-picked flowers have more meaning. He used to have enough money to buy what he wanted, so he would focus more on the things that can be hand-done for the wedding. He would go out on his own searching for blue wild flowers to add to the bouquet and boutonniere to make sure they match though.

The Rings: This boy is getting matching ring finger tattoos He would want wedding bands that have a design related to something the two of them really love. They would be different shapes according to what they each like, but the same thematically, so he feels like they belong together. He would never take it off. That ring is never getting washed. He would also constantly be trying the ring on before the wedding, savoring how it feels. When he is exchanging rings, he seems as smug and confident as ever, but his hand is trembling. If he ever sees his S/O without the ring on, he would probably be heartbroken, even though y'know, they're probably just cleaning it.

The Venue: He wants marry his S/O someplace that has a significant meaning to both of them. It doesn't matter if they met at the literal garbage dump or The Lupin and they hang out there for fun, he will have his wedding there if it means something to them. This man is done with the decorum of the world. His S/O is his world, so he wants to relive all those memories on his wedding day. There isn't any need for a large venue since it will be an intimate gathering of only those people most important to him and his S/O. He would at least put in the elbow grease to make sure that wherever he picked was up to his S/O standards appearance-wise. Dazai cleaning? Yeah, it's more likely than Kunikida thought.

Decorations: All the decorations are hand made and painted the same shade of sky blue. Dazai makes dates with his S/O out creating the decorations. He will use old, cleaned out sake bottles as vases and have his S/O paint little designs on them. He'll also make decorations out of photos of him and his S/O. He has a lot of chaotic energy, so some of these dates were at 2am when neither of them could sleep.

The Wedding Cake: The cake is half of a flavor he likes and half of a flavor his S/O likes since he wanted them both to like it. Taste matters far more than appearance to Dazai. He and his S/O hand-made the cake too. It is a far cry from professional, but he will pour his heart and soul into making it together. He kind of likens it to making a baby with his S/O since it is something they both created together. The decoration on it will be simple, since Dazai doesn't want it to look atrocious from using techniques that he and his S/O haven't mastered.

After the Wedding: Dazai thought for a very long time about where he would take his S/O, but they would probably never know that. Because where they end up going for their honeymoon is to their new shared apartment. Dazai made sure to take the week off from work and stock the apartment with enough snacks and video games and activities to last. He prepared a pillow fort in the living room with a mattress in the middle for them to sleep in. Not that they'll be doing much sleeping. And set up lots of candles to set an ambience. There's only one place in the world he wants to go, and that is home where his S/O is.

My nails are still painted buy my fingers aren’t looking great, Goddess has given me permission to remove the polish and I’ll probably give my nails a day off and then repaint.

Last week my training continued with a specific wedding video that Goddess said I’d return to later in the month. It was pretty fun and I got to follow along with my toys.

The day after I had a specific person’s bridal videos to watch (yes they were porn!), the main one (which I watched the entire 40 minutes of) featured the ceremony and then a pretty extended sex scene. There was a moment that took my breath away when he paused and pulled her in to kiss and she just grabbed him so tightly, like he was her whole world...which lead so well into the second part, Goddess gave me a specific video for the actress to watch at the end. It was about 20 minutes long and it was the very end and then the aftermath of a (non-wedding) scene.

He c*ms into her and then the camera stays on to record the rest. This was a legitimately beautiful video. For the first ten minutes it was spellbinding and I couldn’t take my eyes off it. They were extremely affectionate, lots of little kisses and strokes and hugging and reassurance and watching it felt a little intrusive. Then it was like they remembered the camera and they made a little joke about it and watching it became less awkward. Part way through, she became so overwhelmed she burst into tears and Goddess said I was allowed to watch it as much as I liked. It was powerful in a way few things are.

Finally, Goddess had me create a Pintrest account (setting it up was fun in itself, picking categories I was interested in and watching my feed get populated) and then search for wedding hairstyle. Goddess wanted me to save at least 100 that I liked and send her my 3 favorites, which are shared here.

So some were unbelievable fancy and complicated, with the actual hair sculpted so it looks like flowers, part of me thinks they must just be for photo-shoots but wow did they look good.

The long, dark haired one I liked for the simplicity, bride’s are traditionally “pure” so I think simple is a good accompaniment to that. The long one with lighter colored hair was my pick of a lot of similar styles where the hair was braided or styled down the back and intertwined with flowers or a floral headpiece. These look stunning with a backless dress and an outdoor wedding but they wouldn’t pair too well with trains because you want the hair seen not covered.

The final one was the hardest choice. I wanted something different to my other two so it wasn’t like I was picking multiple variations of the same thing and this was what I decided on. It feels chic and I like how it’s a little messy with strands of hair not included in the bun and how the floral piece breaks up the mass of hair.

It took me a lot longer than I thought to get a hundred but browsing and searching and dreaming was so much fun!

4 Simple Headband Hairstyles Video Tutorials:

Hairdo #2 is a popular half up haircut with extra small scale plaits folding over the headband. We utilized a silver twisted headband and put it high on her temple.

Hairdo #3 is the least demanding of all! An extravagant side pig tail with a contort folding over the back.

Hairdo #4 highlights an entirely beaded headband set between 2 little plaits. We made no warmth waves by staying in bed twists for the time being to finished this look.

Each of the four of these haircuts should be possible with straight hair, wavy hair, or wavy hair. Medium length hair or long hair will work best.

The Canucks are Attractive 101

This is the ultimate guide for anyone who ever said the Canucks are not attractive. Say goodbye to the world as you know it.

First of all: Swedes. We all know it, Sweden somehow produces the best looking people on this planet and the Canucks have some of them.

1. Jacob Markstrom

Our starting goalie is 6′6 and no one can look at him without melting away. His voice and his sweet Swedish accent is the cutest thing you’ll ever hear. Also: eyebrows. Also: eyes. The curved nose needs a shoutout cause it’s adorable. His face is just a masterpiece of art and anyone who doubts this has, well, no idea of art. We also love to mention his tattoos because damn.

2. Anders Nilsson

Only a fool might think one Swedish goalie is enough. Meet Anders Nilsson, another 6′6 goalie from Sweden. He’s the absolute purest sweetheart, as you can spot a pride flag on both his masks. To represent his gay friends, he says. His hair/beard color combo is different but it works. So. Damn. Well. Plus: the freckles, we love them dearly. Our Swedish goalies support each other at all times, goalie controversy? We don’t know her.

3. Alexander Edler

He looks like Alexander Skarsgård but on skates. Another sweet Swedish blondie who is also the sweetest dad. His hair always looks on point and he does indeed have a nice tan in his pic. Probably best dressed Canuck, his fashion is on fire. What a man.

4. Loui Eriksson

A man also known as The Poodle. His fluffy and curly hair make you want to touch it. His look is sometimes very weird and intimidating and some people might think of Louis Vuitton when hearing his name but remember, this kind of fur is completely Canucks branded.

5-6. Henrik and Daniel Sedin

These are our leading Swedish fish and they do look the same. Some people might say they aren’t really pretty, but hey if you’re into gingers, we got two identical ones for you. We aim to please.

Next: the team dads (Disclaimer: this does not mean they actually have kids). We got plenty of them and they’re mostly cute and obviously good with kids – or still single.

7. Sam Gagner

Sam Gagner aka Gags is a really smiley. GAGNER WITH SCRUFF IS ICONIC. Also smirk smirk smirk. He likes to wear an all white mouthguard that makes his teeth look weird during the game but that’s okay because he needs to protect his perfect smile at all costs! Bonus: He looks so comforting like you can trust him with your life.

8. Brandon Sutter

His sarcasm is A+ comedy. He also looks like he could play the role of a guy everyone falls in love with on The Young and the Restless. He’s just very pretty, hair is soft, light scrub and eyebrows are 👏🏼. His eyes are pretty and they are very kind. Also that little smile/smirk is giving me all kinds of feelings ngl.

9. Christopher Tanev

He most definitely looks better with teeth than without. Tanev is the protective type of guy, he takes pucks to the face for you but mostly for Marky, literally. Long hair don’t care. The soft, dark brown of his eyes can tell that he couldn’t hurt a fly. Bet he takes the ladies out on good dates too.

10. Michael del Zotto

Michael del Zotto, more commonly known as DJ MDZ has Italian heritage as you might realize in his name. He’s got curls curls curls. Simple, overall goof who often thinks too highly of himself. Further he’s the absolute kind and friendly standard Canadian.

11. Erik Gudbranson

YOU CANT TELL ME HE DOES NOT LOOK LIKE HE IS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE GQ COVER!!! Certified male model Erik Gudbranson. God definitely was in a very good mood when he gave him his face. His nose is straight and thin, it just makes you want to tap on it. His smile is very comforting and so is his look. His eyebrows are a statement. This guy knows for sure what a hairstyle is. His sense of fashion is straight out of a fashion magazine. The scrub is just the whipped cream on top, his face is artwork.

12. Markus Granlund

Looks quiet and serious but has a great sense of humor and arguably some of the best Instagram posts. He’s from Finland so if you want a Finnish player we have all ages. He’s got pretty green eyes.

13. Alex Biega

Alex Biega is a cute family man. Great with kids, nice, cute smile, rosy cheeks, nice nose. Con: he has no hair, but you don’t see that when he’s wearing a helmet.

Next up: our young guns! They are all handsome af and just overall lovable. They’re fast and speedy and some of them are thicc af. Save the best for last, our personal favorites.

14. Ben Hutton

1. If you’re ever feeling down, watch a hutton video, he’s happy 24/7 and knows how to have fun. 2. He’s always smiling and his smile can brighten a room. 3. Those dance moves tho. Who knew a “Barbie girl” lip sync could be so hot.

15. Darren Archibald

He is a wall, he is badass and that makes him so ass. His skin looks very soft and his beard does actually look good, not like Guddys. HIS BEARD IS PERFECT. His eyebrows are straight up goals and look at the dark, kind brown of his eyes. Beautiful.

16. Bo Horvat

Bo’s face is chiseled like a god. He carries his dog because he doesn’t want to make him walk. He love to go to the beach with his dog but he doesn’t let him swim because he’s “more of a sinker”. His nose is very cute and his body is damn well trained you can just look at him forever. Bo has very soft short hair and he is often amused by Brock’s non-existant smile.

17. Brendan Gaunce

Baby face Brendan Gaunce has the hairstyle of a guy from elementary school. His lips are so red at all times it’s inhuman. He looks very innocent but it feels like he’s not. He’s just kind of there, no one really knows how or why. Kind of looks like a little baby deer.

18. Tyler Motte

Fact: There are no good pics of him in the inter webs. Tyler “Applesauce” Motte kinda looks like a college kid from a frat. He’s a very fast skater and his penalty killing is absolutely sexie.

19. Nic Dowd

Dowdy is just overall an incredibly handsome guy. That hair line and the wavy fluff, can you see it? Beautiful. The cheek bones? Beautiful. He could work as a male model if he wanted but fortunately he plays hockey to bless us with his beautiful face.

20. Troy Stecher

Stechy has straight up the most adorable dog on this planet. Let’s be real if anyone says Phoebe isn’t their favorite Canuck they’re lying. Kind of an underrated defence man so not a lot of people fully appreciate him. He’s like that rough and tough hockey player that’s also very adorable. His voice is simply great.

21. Brendan Leipsic

Where do we start here? First of all he calls his dog his son and it’s very adorable. Also his curls. CURLS. They match his face so well and they are absolutely adorable. His lips have a perfect shape and look so soft. Generally his face looks just super soft and kind. Also, have you ever noticed his fashion sense? Definitely one of the best dressed guys on the team. He’s also very aggressive on the ice and he hustles and works very well with our favorite d-man Derrick Pouliot. His nickname is delicious country gravy because he works so well with the chicken strip.

Goldy is the most adorable Russian puppy you can find anywhere in the NHL. His hair are super fluffy and he doesn’t know how to wear a hat but that only makes him look even more adorable. Derrick Pouliot, also commonly known as Poulet, chicken strip and super strip is our cutest chubby teddy defenseman and we all know it. He grew up in the middle of nowhere in Saskatchewan and not a lot of people got to appreciate his beauty so far. His hair are the pure fluff and make you just want to run your hands through it. His face looks so soft, his eyes are warm and you just want to squeeze his cheeks ngl. Listen to his voice once and you never want to listen to something else ever again. He is not really tall and his hockey gear looks kind of too big for him, the others love to pat his head. Sometimes his hair get a little curly and it’s just the cutest thing ever. Just by looking at him you can tell that he gives the best and softest hugs ever and he makes you feel comfortable at all times. He is really silent and not outgoing, he needs a lot of time to feel comfortable with new people but that’s totally okay. He’s super cute with kids and just overall totally lovely and kind. A real Canadian.
