Modern Mages - Part 6: Spoopy Witch

I used my Adoribull sims from Dragon Age: Inquisition to recreate @brenna-ivy‘s commission of a “pastel goth” witch for The Sims 3!

End of Year Collage - Best of 2022

Rules: Find your fave pics of your story or your blog in general and post them up in a collage! :D it can be 1 picture or 100 whatever you want. But just reflect on your fave moments in your story or on your blog. It can be cute moments or pictures you’re just really proud of.

I did this last year and decided to make one for 2022, to celebrate simming, the one source of joy I got out of another crapfest of a year.

I did even less simming this year than I’ve ever done, so some months once again have no entries, which depresses me. I doubt 2023 will be any better, but here’s hoping! 🤞🤞

MY THOUGHTS (for each month) under the cut:

January: New Years Miniset

I did diddly squat in January, just uploaded my New Years miniset that I had made for Magnus Bane’s birthday the December before.

February #1: Lunar New Year | February #2: Black Girl Magic Collection

Still no gameplay this month, but I got a lot done as far as CC, uploading my regularly scheduled holiday sets for Lunar New Year and Black History Month. Shortest month of the frikkin year, but I’m always swamped in February.

March #1: BLEACH \(^0^)/ | March #2: Let them eat cake!

I went nuts in March, trying to rush to get as much Bleach inspired gameplay done as possible before my schoolwork and birthday plans for April all caught up with me. Didn’t get nearly as much done as I wanted, but I had fun, regardless. Ironically enough however, y’all were more interested in one silly post I made where my Sakura & Ryuu sims assassinated Marie Antoinette! XD

April: Modern Male Witch Project Part 5

My latest installment recreating Brenna-Ivy’s Modern Mages went off without a hitch. Made an EFFTON of CC for y’all on my birthday, and had a blast!

May: Didn’t do any simming in May, as I needed to recover from blitzing the last 3 months.

June #1: The Untamed cont’d | June #2: Pride Month: Asian LGBT+

I took advantage of my Summer Break from school to continue my The Untamed gameplay. Some of my favorite posts ever, right there. Plus, it was Pride Month, so I was able to double-time it with Hanguang-Jun(e) Month and an cool Asian-themed LGBT series of weekly posts from some of my fave fandom ships: Nagron, Malec, WangXian, Andynh, and Adoribull.

July: Mighty Nein

I did more of the Modern Male Project, but definitely the best gameplay of the month (and arguably my whole YEAR) came from my Critical Role inspired posts. Y’all were going bananas; I loved seeing how many D&D fans were out there! I’m definitely doing more this year, it was way too much fun.

August: TW3 Skellige

My witcher!household went a-viking in Ard Skellig, as I tested out a bunch of new CC I was uploading that month. 

September: Nada. I was in the TRENCHES at school; I got hit with one massive project after another, ISTG it was like the department wanted to see if I would effing crack under pressure. STILL HERE, WENCHES. I hate grad school.

October: The Untamed cont’d

Halloween was the perfect time to deal with Wen Ning, so I HAD to squeeze in some more Untamed gameplay for the holidays. 

November: Wei Wuxian’s Halloween/Birthday

I was late posting in time for WWX’s bday on Halloween, but was just glad I managed to make a post I’d been dying to do for a LONG while, showing Wei WuXian get reincarnated as Mo XuanYu.

December: Interview with the Vampire

Y’all. Y’all know? How effing HAPPY I am that AMC made this dang show? I love every bit of it; eff the book purists. This is how you do an adaptation RIGHT, by ELEVATING the source material and updating the content for modern audiences. BRAVO.

The Fallow Mire - Pt2: In the Bog

Inquisitor Lavellan led her party through the Fallow Mire, in search of Fade Rifts to seal. Accompanying her were her Qunari bodyguard The Iron Bull, the Tevinter liaison Dorian Pavus, and the Inquisition’s Red Jenny spy network contact, Sera.

Dorian, so accustomed to the hot and dry climes of the north, made his discomfort loud and clear. “ What do people call this again? A 'bog'? Lovely word...for fields of mud. Ugh!” He stumbled about, feet sinking in the muck.

The Iron Bull warned, “Just remember, anything poking up from the water could be a horrible monster acting like a stick. Better hike up your skirt, mage boy!”

Dorian huffed, “I'm not wearing a skirt. But what would you know about fashion in those horrid trousers?”

"Alright...! But you trip on that bustling whatever, don't come crying to me.”

“I can manage in this blasted swamp perfectly fine--kaffas!” Dorian tripped.

As they pushed forward, Sera rapidly lost her composure. "Stupid mud and water and something brushed against my leg!”

Bull chuckled, “Want me to carry you? Dorian’s too busy being fashionable.”

Sera perked up. “Could I ride on your shoulders? You run and hit, I shoot!”

“So we'd be like a mobile siege platform. (Grunts.) Yeah... this could work!“

Sera scrambled onto Bull’s shoulders. “Anything to get out of this creepy shite!“

Ignoring their antics, Inquisitor Lavellan inspected their surroundings. “Look. Signs of a plague.”

Dorian nodded. “A cheerful addition to any decent swamp. At least in the city, you can find a decent healer. Out here you have, what? Roots and berries?”

Iron Bull pointed out, “Deathroots, actually, and plenty of nightshade. Poison and plague everywhere. Great place, right?“

“Ugh, the best....“

I took 99% of the dialogue from DA:I’s party banter. All I added was the deathroots line, and the bit about fashion, cuz in fandom it’s pretty much unanimous that fashionista!Dorian hates Bull’s pants. They are pretty terrible though. XD

Dorian: I hope it doesn't bother you to travel alongside a "Vint," Iron Bull.

Iron Bull: That what you are? You people all kinda look the same to me.

Dorian: I'm also a mage. Would you prefer me bound and leashed?

Iron Bull: I'd buy you dinner first.

Dorian: Hopefully before you sewed my mouth shut [like a saarebas].

Iron Bull: Depends how much you keep yapping.

Dorian: No Qunari would accept a Tevinter mage so easily... unless it was a ruse. When should I expect a knife in the back?

Iron Bull: You ever use that fancy magic of yours to burn down a dormitory full of kids?

Dorian: Err... not today.

Best thing about DA:I is the party banter, hands down. It’s effing STUPID that the mounts system completely disables party banter. On top of that, your whole party vanishes once you get on a mount, so you’re just roaming around Thedas by yourself in quiet. LAME.

So basically, don’t use mounts in DA:I; it’s not worth it.

MY THOUGHTS

Bull summed up the Ben-Hassrath for the Inquisitor in my post here.

Most Qunari don’t just roam around Thedas, instead preferring to stay in Par Vollen, their country way up north. The Qun is their iron-fisted hive-mind philosophy-religion, all but separate from Thedas theology with its Chantries worshipping the Maker. Tal-Vashoth, deserters from the Qun. live in the rest of Thedas, often as mercs or bandits or whatever.

Iron Bull is the only Qunari to be a Ben-Hassrath still in the Qun who’s lived away from Par Vollen for well over a decade. He does profane/mundane things like drinking, feasting, cussing, and sleeping around, all as part of his “cover.” Bull is overweight (his belly fat) as a representation of the excesses he indulges in, as opposed to the rigid discipline dictating daily life in the Qun.

I took bits of the dialogue from DA:I, and tweaked it, cuz I wonder how Dorian even found out that Bull was Ben-Hassrath. I imagined all the rest with Krem, and his dialogue with Lavellan is actually from the Mage alliance.

Vivienne: I presume you know what they will say of Corypheus, Dorian.

Dorian: ‘Darkspawn?’ ‘Madman?’ Don't keep me in suspense.

Vivienne: They will say he is Tevinter.

Dorian: *fake gasp* No!

Vivienne: I'm aware you claim to be here to counter that, but the damage is done.

Dorian: I'm not here on behalf of my nation's reputation, Vivienne. I'm here to do what is right.

Vivienne: If only more of your countrymen felt as you do....

Dorian: *sigh* Why is it always so cold? *shivers* How do you southerners stand it?

Iron Bull: What's the matter? Not enough slaves around to rub your footsies?

Dorian: My footsies are freezing, thank you.

Iron Bull: So...guess the Vints will be pissed with you running to warn everyone at Redcliffe, huh?

Dorian: Not that my warning did much good.

Iron Bull: Didn't see any other mages coming to do it.

Dorian: There is that. The ones who didn't join the Venatori either ran off or were killed.

Iron Bull: Ah, see? Good on you! Way to join the underdogs!

Dorian: I'm thrilled, really....

Dorian catches A LOT of flack for being from Tevinter.

Corypheus, the big-bad of DAI (and technically DA2), is an ancient immortal Tevinter magister, who started the entire plot Dragon Age’: demons & darkspawn escaping from the Fade to attack the mortals of Thedas during cataclysms known as Blights.

Tevinter mages like the Venatori are notorious for following in Corypheus’ footsteps, sacrificing slaves for use in blood magic and summoning demons to gain power.

So for Dorian, a Tevinter nobleman, deciding to leave and help the Inquisition defeat Corypheus causes quite the hubbub all over Thedas, cuz no one expects Vints to actually be good people. O_O

Waylaid on the Road

Inquisitor Lavellan and her fellow mages take a few Lyrium Potions before approaching the Fade Rift growing in the distance. The party's battle Reaver, Iron Bull, wasted little time lunging upon the demons that emerged from the Fade, hurling his axe around in the vanguard. Meanwhile, Vivienne and Dorian cast a volley of spells at the demons, as the Inquisitor sealed the Fade Rift.

My favorite DA:I party setup is 3 mages and a warrior -- specifically: Rift-mage!Lavellan on support, elemental-necromancer Dorian, knight-enchanter Vivienne, and Reaver Iron Bull. (I love Cassandra, I really do, but Dorian and Bull need to be in the party nearly ALL the time in order for their romance banter to trigger -- takes for-frikkin-EVER). Sometimes I’d swap someone out for Sera, my rogue of choice.

Simblr Asks Pt1 - TS3

I saw these questions here, and I’m in a procrastinating mood. [EDIT] Joke’s on me, I already answered these questions a few months ago and forgot all about it, JFC.

1. how big is your mods folder? I have to update my mods folder--I haven’t simmed in so frikkin long. U_U

2. how would you describe your style? Derivative. Vanilla pudding-esque. Sporadic.

3. what is your favorite challenge? I don’t do challenges.

4. do you make cc? if so, what kind? I prefer to do Decor CC, since it’s easy. When I have time, I try dabbling in functional items, but I still have a long way to go, and there’s a steep learning curve to figuring out how to do more than decorative clutter. A for CAS CC, I effing hate it, it’s so dang hard.

5. what type of cc do you hoard?  I used to only DL fanciful CC, but it’s slim pickings in these streets, so now I grab almost everything, and hope I can make it work.

6. what default eyes and skin do you use? I don’t use default skins, just the You Are Real mod. As for eyes, I use Moonskin’s.

7. how many urls have you had, and what are the meanings behind them? Only ever had one, my first name, cuz I’m creative like that.

8. who is your favorite gameplay blog? I can’t pick one.

9. who is your favorite storytelling blog? Omfg, I can’t.

10. who is your favorite cc creator? Luna! There! Leave me alooooone~!!

11. how do you edit your photos? I up the Brightness and Contrast, cuz lighting is a hot mess in The Sims, but I’m too scared to use Reshade on my busted PC.

12. what is the last screenshot you took? Top secret information, sorry.

13. what do you do when you are unmotivated? Not sim. It’s a hobby, not a job. I only play when I’m motivated to do so--the second I feel forced to play a game, that’s a problem--the whole point of games is for them to be fun.

14. who is your current favorite sim? Chile, I haven’t been able to play The Sims in months; I don’t even know which gameplay I’m gonna do once Winter Break starts. I want to continue playing with WangXian in my Untamed Gameplay, but I really need to return to Adoribull in my Dragon Age gameplay, too. And I’ve been lowkey missing Malec from my Shadowhunters gameplay. BAH!

15. who is your current favorite sim that is not by you? @solori​​’s Vidarr. Total DILF.

16. recreate someone else’s sim in your style. I did a Picrew tag like that here. [EDIT] Here’s where I realized I’d wasted an hour of my life answering a questionnaire I already frikkin did.

17. do you talk about sims with people in real life? Rarely. I knew a few TS3 & Sims City simmers IRL, but there are way too many johnny-come-lately TS4 simmers out there who think EA’s the second effing coming of Maxis when it ain’t. I can’t with them.

18. how many of the packs do you own? Very few for TS1, all of TS2 & TS3′s, and more than I expected for TS4.

19. how many posts do you have on your blog currently? THOUSANDS, jfc.

20. how many drafts do you have on your blog currently? HUNDREDS, it’s effing shameful, send help.

21. how many posts are in your queue currently? That’s a secret.

22. have you ever moved blogs? Never. I was trying to backup my stuff on Wordpress, but now that I'm back in school it’s just too much work I don’t have time for.

23. are you in any sims related discord servers? No, though I’m pretty sure there’s CC discords out there I’m probably seriously missing out on. I wouldn’t even know where to start.

24. what are your thoughts on the most recent pack? (paranormal) For a Stuff Pack, I thought it was cool! Though Bonehilda needs a effing facelift, jfc, why does her skull even look like that?

25. how many hours have you played sims?  I don’t even know. I got TS3 at launch, and play it almost religiously. Then in 2017 I got a new pc and had to migrate to Origin in order to reinstall all my stuff, and EA started tryna keep track of my play time, so I started playing only in Offline Mode. MYOFB, EA.

26. if you play gameplay, do you play with mods? All day every day.

27. what’s the farthest you’ve gotten in a challenge? I don’t do challenges; I cheat too much.

2020 Simblr Goals

Happy New Year! \(^0^)/ My New Years resolution for 2020 are to:

1) Return to my Dragon Age: Inquisition gameplay/conversions in earnest. I have SO MUCH I’m sitting on that I had to pause, and I’m dying to get back to it.

2) Catch up with my Malec gameplay. I was working on 3B posts, and book insp. posts, but nothing got finished in 2019, smdh. U_U

3) Actually do the Requests I get -- I never remember Requests unless y’all stay on my case so I don’t get sidetracked; I have the attention span of a newt. (－‸ლ)

4) Plan something cool for the holidays. It’s become a tradition for me to always do something special at certain times of the year:

Lunar New Year: Y’all are getting Sekiro conversions I’ve been sitting on & doing nothing with.

Black History Month: I’ve got something in the works, just gotta finish it.

Gay Pride: I’ll do something for Adoribull, speaking of DA:I.

Simblreen: Eff knows what I’ll come up with.

Xmas: I do Nagron specials every other year (2016, 2018, etc). So I’ve gotta think of something for my boys. :3

5) Learn how to create something new. For 2019 I learned how to make fences and windows, and that was awesome! I’m trying to find something other than decor that doesn’t scare me, that I can get comfortable with, lol.

6) Reorganize my CC DL folders. It’s such a mess.

So, yeah, hopefully everything goes well for me next year, and I don’t die (cuz grad school’s LITERALLY trying to kill me) or anything drastic (like another effing external harddrive breaking on me). So here’s hoping!

Backed Up Replies! (Long AF)

So, small RL update: I’ll be starting a dinky little summer internship starting this Monday. (I’m just doing it for the résumé boost, cuz the pay’s literal peanuts; not even enough to cover my frikkin train fare. Effing exploitation, effing scam, I hate everything.) I won’t know exactly what my schedule’ll be till I go in and talk to them, but this is just a heads up in case I can’t be around much. I’m not dead (heavens willing), just out here doing more for less. ^_^

Need time to play DA:I. So far, I've got the GOTY version for PS4 and created my character - and I bought it over three years ago. Lame. ._.

SAME. My first run was bad. I bought it in 2015, for like $60. Mofo took for EFFING EVER to install. Then the gameplay was just SO slow going for me, stuck in those frikkin Hinterlands & going on endless fetch quests and requisitions and blah blah. And Bioware’s glitchy AF animations are...interesting to experience. By the time we FINALLY got to the actual PLOT and met the big-bad at Haven, Corypheus was just running his mouth monologuing, and after wandering aimlessly around Skyhold I lost my patience with DA:I entirely. I returned it at Gamestop and got The Witcher 3 instead -- BEST DECISION EVER.

But DA:I was always at the back of my mind, and after all this time I decided to revisit it. I like it! TBH, the best part about DA:I is the party banter, and getting into the lore about Thedas’ history and what’s up with the Fade and effing Solas and everything. And I already told y’all about my crush on The Iron Bull -- I missed him so much! XD

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!!! I’m relieved that sim!Bull’s being well received. I’m struggling with the joints being kinda awkward in places, and there’s some UV mapping I need to fix, and close-up his whole horns/eyepatch business is NOT kosher. But I’ll keep working at all of it. The support means a lot, trust! ^_^
