❤️To Jaye with Love❤️ - This queen size crochet blanket was a passion project of love from a mother to a son that began when I put pen to paper in the spring of 2019, and which took me over 6 months thereafter to complete. The blanket was yarn heavy, because I used the Tapestry Crochet method to stitch it, which made it extra thick and bulky (and hopefully very warm). - Between packing to move cities (from Toronto to Windsor), and then unpacking and settling in afterwards, in my new home, I wasn't sure if I'd be able to finish it by the deadline I had given myself. Thankfully I did crochet the blanket in time, and I'm happy to say it was well received. 💖 - Of course it took me a while longer to photograph it And actually present it in hand, what with the 2020 Covid lockdowns and all. But it finally reached its destination and it's recipient. And I'm told it's getting well used. - So here it is... Crochet Basics: Single Crochet

I think this video is helpful for beginners in crochet to master the basics of this process. It shows clear instructions that you can follow along with and rewatch as much as you need to. She covers the slip knot, how to hold your hook, the chain stitch, the single crochet stitch, and how to create a rectangular sample swatch.

Homework for the weekend:

Take some time this to practice and get comfortable with the basic single crochet stitch. Please bring in your best example of your progress with this stitch in the form of an 8″ x 8″ sample square of single crochet to class on Monday morning.

Once you are comfortable with the single crochet stitch, feel free to explore further into the crochet structure and learn another stitch or two. Here is part two of this video that introduces some new stitches. Be sure to bring your crochet explorations to class on Monday to share with the fiber sculpture community!
