Belo Horizonte, Sete Lagoas and Itabira. July/August 2020. I went to Brazil in 2020 investigating the local and traditional fashion production around the city of Belo Horizonte / Minas Gerais. My research led me to contact independent designers and community associations working with artisanal authenticity and having their production strongly grounded in the aspects of the circular economy. Their fashion production is influenced by the mindset of repairing, remaking, redesigning, up-cycling and finding new and unexpected uses for recycled and otherwise wasted materials. They produce unique pieces based in their cultural heritage but speaking to local and global audiences.
