Summer 7 in FGO NA had the author think about a lot. Especially when one of the culprits is shown to be the author's Grailed Caster.
Emotional exploration, past memories of sensory overload and anxiety (coincidentally caused by author's own parents in a growing bit, actually), and many many days of work stress and writing on the trolley resulted in this. Almost 14k words for a Summer Event chapter.
(Let it be said that when bad apple 3 who was pregnant left, author with work team found a bad apple number 4 and it sucks. What is it with healthcare jobs finding the most devious of masked people who say they can do the work, only to slack on the details when others need it most? Fuck off.)
An honorable mention to @partialdignity. It's thanks to you beta-reading a lot of the scenes and initial ideas that helped me finish this. I love you friend.

Shenanigans in the Grand Order, part 494
... Huh. So basically, teleporting across distances instead of dimensions.
Dammit, wanted to get a neat heal-up.
How about no? 🙂
We've seen more wild stuff.
It's Altera (or her previous self, Sefar).
... Well.
Heh.
My, how kind of you.
By God you're violently written by Sakurai.

ON the Right we have beloved westaboo, best of the Swimsuit swordsmen, Miyamoto Musashi!
ON the Left we have the man who cucked the King of Knights, the Berserker of Fate Zero, the og skadi looper, Lancelot!

Mahoyo’s artist is Hirokazu Koyama. He’s worked with Type-Moon since 2002, and did several CGs for Fate/stay night and Fate/hollow ataraxia.
In FSN and Fate/Zero, he designed Lancelot as well as many weapons, including but not limited to Excalibur, Ea, Gae Bolg, Archer’s twin swords, Herc’s axe-sword, Arondight, Gordius Wheel, and Diarmuid’s spears.
In FGO, he’s the illustrator for Mata Hari, Scathach, Skadi, Romulus, Kirschtaria, Berserker Lancelot, Medea Lily, and Musashi.

Time to talk about things I'm excited about again
New Fate/Samurai Remnant trailer! it's only in Japanese for now, and it was quickly privated from the original uploader
HOWEVER, there's still a lot of cool things to look at here.
First of all, i'll be honest, I saw this originally thanks to a twitter user that archived it and looked at the various stuff you can get with it, so a lot of my "official" info that isn't visually made clear in the trailer will be regurgitated from what they've said. here's the thread and another video (just in case this one gets taken down)
Okay, so time for a deep dive under the cut:
first off
Musashi (which that IS Musashi and this is not a Scathatch=Skadi or similar situation) is apparently a Berserker
The MC is most likely Iori- there's a few reasons why this is significant, both in terms of actual history (which plays a role for Fate, obviously) and Fate lore in general
A. Historical relevancy: Iori is one of the children that IRL Miyamoto Musashi bought/adopted from his original parents, and taught them his signature sword style.
B. Lore relevancy: The Musashi we're familiar with in Fate is from another world where she's female- at least in terms of Fate/Grand Order lore. Musashi sort of gets rejected by reality/gets tossed in and out of alternate dimensions here and there, and other than official story canon, she does play a fun and significant role in Summer 4. Here she appears in the Summer Singularity of Las Vegas as a Berserker and also keeps trying (and failing) to convince the group she is actually Iori. It's a fun story but hard to argue as canon due to the nature of event singularities and especially summer ones
3. I'm very sure you can tell if you look closely, but the black haired servant with the white shirt is definitely a Saber face- I think this one actually has Artoria's VA. I posted previously after the last trailer, but they have Artoria's hairstyle and the little ahoge that's pretty much signature to Saber Faces (sans Alters). To me they seem of Chinese origin judging by dress and swords, and it also seems like they have some water ability? Which is strange but cool. If anyone's smart enough to try and figure that one out, go for it. I'd personally look through old Chinese folktales or rulers that have some association to water, or maybe was a man suspected of being a woman/vice versa (which is why Artoria is a woman instead of a man). Maybe a swordsman that traveled or migrated to Japan, too.
4. This is DEFINITELY a Holy Grail War, it's the only way someone like Jalter could show up like this- However the fact that she's even here to begin with must mean there's something wonky going on, since her existence in FGO is pretty much only because of Chaldea's interference. It could also just be a separate instance of fuckery going on, especially considering we have ANOTHER Avenger class here- Angry Mango himself (i can't remember how to spell the name). Maybe another tainted grail?
5. Speaking of Angra, he looks different- like he's not using Shiro as a base body anymore. He has face stubble- Kiritsugu, maybe? It wouldn't be the first time Kiritsugu and Shiro have had similar Servant counterparts. It could also be another of Musashi's kids imo.
6. Speaking of Shiro, or more specifically Fate/Stay Night
This place looks familiar, almost like the shrine where Saber and Assassin fought each other in FSN, aka the shrine Caster was holding out in. Now this might be a stretch, but what if this is Fuyuki from the past? If this is Iori's time, this would be around the 1600s, roughly 400 years prior to Stay Night. The fact that the new Saber Face is also here seems rather significant imo
7. The extra Servants look cool- I'm betting the big guy with the green is maybe another Hercules form or possibly Samson, which would be a first for Fate I think. He does have long hair, anyway.
8. The music used is similar to the Shimousa fighting music from FGO's Shimousa arc
Anyway, the early September release date for Japan is pretty awesome. I doubt it'll release that early for us, and in fact that may be why they retracted the video? unclear. Personally i hope it comes out later so i can actually save and buy it instead of passing it up for a wedding lol
I can't wait for it, it looks fun

Help me figure out who to summon! Please?
So... once again my executive disfunction has made me push off doing the guaranteed SSR summon until the very last day. 12 diffident choices to summon from is too much for my brain to decide between and makes the executive disfunction worse. (I shouldn’t feel anxiety from this but I do...)
I have been playing this game since it arrived in English so I have collected a good number of SSRs over the years. For some reason in the past 2 years a bunch of older Servants who weren’t even on banner started coming to my Chaldea and I have no idea why.
5*s Who I Currently Have:
Sabers: Arturia (NP4), Altera, Beni-Enma, Astolfo
Archers: Gilgamesh (NP2), Arjuna, Napoleon
Lancers: Karna, Lancer Arturia
Riders: Ozymandias, Achilles (NP3), Iskander, Francis Drake, Leonardo da Vinci
Casters: Waver Velvet/Lord El-Melloi/Zhuge Liang, Tamamo-no-Mae, Merlin, Leonardo da Vinci (NP3), Scáthach-Skadi, Castoria, Miss Crane (NP2)
Assassin: Jack the Ripper, Cleopatra
Berserkers: Vlad III (NP2), Sakata Kintoki, Arjuna Alter (NP2), Summer Miyamoto Musashi, Florence Nightingale
Special Classes:
Ruler: Jeanne d’Arc, Sherlock Holmes, Summer Arturia, Amakusa Shirou
Avenger: Jeanne Alter, Edmond Dantès,
Moon Cancer: Summer BB
Foreigner: Abigail Williams, Van Gogh
Pretender: Meltryllis, Ashiya Douman
...I don’t know how I got all meta Casters either. I usually just use Merlin and Waver for backup if needed but Castoria is seeing more use lately. As for Miss Crane I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with her.
Anyways as I said my executive disfunction makes me push this off to the last day and with 12 choices it’s too confusing. Even if I was trying for Waifu-summoning. So who should I go for the 6th Anniversary Guaranteed Summon? Or even the free SSR? Please give me some kind of advice!

Because not even the author’s parents getting COVID-19 positive tests and the author getting the updated bivalent booster shot on Christmas Eve truly stops writing, it seems. Inspired by feelings that stemmed with starting a new job during the holidays too.
To everyone: Merry Christmas Eve, Hanukkah, and many other holidays.
To @partialdignity, @lunarimpact, and @hizentadahiro specifically: thankie for being there with me through your online presence. This chapter was thanks to you three being the first to support me when I got the initial news of my parents getting positive COVID tests.
Shoutouts to Lang and Os too, even when you both don’t read/consume Fate in any capacity. Thankie for still being my friends even after the initial Naruto days.
For everyone else, thanks for sticking with me this long with this mishmash of oneshots-turned story.
It felt nice revisiting it for the rather quiet holidays on my end.

What did you mean when you said Kiichi was every Sakurai fetish combined? I haven't really been keeping up with FGO lately.
Kiichi has Scathach’s dangerous mentor role, Skadi’s cluelessness of how human society works, Musashi’s aggressive bisexuality, Shuten and Ibuki’s passion for alcohol, Quirinus and Douman’s stated non-adherence to the gender binary, aside from the cheerful confidence and the knowledge of esoteric lore that’s hard to pin down to one specific Sakurai character.
It helps (?) that the Kamakura event opens up with Fergus and Caesar discussing how attractive Kiichi is.

Shenanigans in the Grand Order, part 510
And I hope it's a damn good bonus, too.
Oh, we picked up Kadoc? (Nope, Kirei dropped him off)
At least feed him first before you do that!
*groans* What in every gods names did you wake me up for?
... Yeah, easier said than done.
Finally, I'm free from the boss rush chapter that is Olympus.
I'll be honest, it felt boring and a bit of a slog to go through. Between Nasu lore-dumping during parts to the point where I felt tempted to fast forward and Sakurai's hit-or-miss writing (leaning more towards "miss" during this chapter), it's underwhelming compared to not only Atlantis, but the previous Lostbelt as well. Don't get me wrong, there are good and neat parts in this, but they felt few and far between.
Also, get your torches and pitchforks ready, because I'm going to admit it - I felt nothing (heh) when Musashi sacrificed herself to seal Chaos away. Yes, I did say that after I was done with Shimousa I understood why people like her, but here's the catch for me - I don't really like her post Shimousa, since she comes off more as a parody of herself, at least to me.
It also didn't help that Chaos themself was a shark the size of a great white that well and truly jumped far. "Oh no, Chaos is much too powerful for any of us to handle! And even if we had the power, they're too far away for us to deal with! What ever shall we do?!?!?!?!?1?!" Just, ugh. That was too much. The shark jumped way too far for me to take it seriously or to even barely enjoy the story. And then it was repeated shortly afterward with U-Olga, much in the same way.
And besides, Musashi isn't going to be permanently down, she's already appearing in another Fate series (or at least, I assume that's Musashi for Samurai Remnant).
Is there anything that I enjoyed? Yeah. I really like the relationship that Caenis and Kirschtaria have once he gets back to him, and how much trust Kirschtaria has for him. The Olympus twins (Macarios and Adele) are nice foils to the Saturday morning cartoon-esque Dioscuri. Europa is, in my opinion, a better "I am a motherly character written by Sakurai" than Demeter and especially Skadi (Europa actually interacts with some people who came from the Lostbelt! And she doesn't like how the humans are treated instead of being all 'I had no choice, oh woe is me'!).
Also, since the idol event started and ended before I finished Olympus, I had to put those Shenanigans in the drafts until this was over. Anyway, I should prepare myself for going through Heian-Kyo when LB6 drops. Yay, a Sakurai chapter after this...

Out of those candidates I’d probably go with Kama, Mordred or Lolivinci myself lol
Adele and Musashi are there cause Caenis was an enemy for a while and they are our allies... Which I suppose also includes Mash, who I forgot on the original list. The Gudas are also there because of this
Koyanskaya is mostly a thing all to herself and an enemy overall to both sides in a way
Medusa and Medusa Lily I don't have much of an explanation for beyond "Victims of Poseidon"
Medea and Medea Lily cause Argonauts, so the relationship does exist and voyages at sea can get pretty long and boring~
Pollux is also an Argonaut, but they also became enemies along the way, so there's also that
Mordred is often shipped with her so... Sex gone "wrong"~
Wodime and she had quite a relationship before Chaldea arrived and I find the thought fun enough
Kama, Corday, Sei Shōnagon and Lolivinchi are all in the Summer Event with Caenis in terms of Swimsuit Debut, so the chance for such depravity certainly exists
Ibuki is mostly because, as Caenis put her opinion, "I don't like gods. Doesn't matter if they're old or new...they never do anything good. Hey Master, can I kill them?", which also includes Kama in addition to the previous
Plus, Summer Servants eating each other due to skin exposure and horniness is why Lady Avalon is on the list and Ibuki also has a swimsuit
If I were to add more... Anastasia (Caenis pretty much threatened to rape her during the First Lostbelt), Chloe, Castoria, Melusine (All three for no reason other than "it could be fun"), the Valkyries (Swimsuits... Also maybe in defence of Skadi under the Ibuki reasoning?), Morgan (Wife), Nagao (Battle rush during sparring?), BB (Sakuraface Supremacy!), Ishtar (Also works under the Ibuki reasoning, but slightly less so, mostly because it's Ishtar), Brynhildr (Oh hey, she has the Brynhildr's Beloved trait)

Finally finished LB 5.2 Olympus.
(Though I just outright fastforwarded the entire last quest because I just could not take any more Musashi.)
My current ranking of LB chapters is like this:
Top tier: 5.1 Atlantis, 3 China
Mid tier: 4 India, 2 Scandinavia, 3.5 Ooku, 4.5 Scramble
Low tier: 1 Russia, 5.2 Olympus
Atlantis was just great, China was great for me personally, though I feel like it needed about two more chapters somewhere in the second half.
India was... fine. I didn’t feel much and I still don’t really jive with Minase’s writing, but there was nothing bad either and it gave us both Rama and Junao. Scandinavia was a Sakurai work for most of it, but I really liked parts of the end section, especially with Skadi and Surtr, so that salvaged it for me. Ooku was India but mildly worse because Kama really fizzled out and the whole Tokugawa things was... whatever. I really did like the gameplay though. Scramble had good ideas and, again, I liked the ending, though the pacing and the gameplay were terrible.
Russia was just a bad showing in general, since it spent way too long building up the whole “we’re killing worlds, we’re so evil now” revelation, only to limply undermine it by having Patxi tell us our world is better (ok), the weakest alternate history setup by far, and so much time spent on the villain scenes that the villains conversely became quite dull. I didn’t like Kadoc either.
And Olympus... oh man, Olympus. All of my problems with Sakurai writing writ large and larger. The absolutely atrocious Musashi showing that just wouldn’t end. The bland cast interactions. The Kirschtaria stuff, made infinitely worse by Caenis. It was just tedious and awful. Frankly, very much in the running for worst LB chapter.
The god battle parts were very cool tho, and I liked the twins (you know which twins).
Mostly, I’m glad it’s over. Now, time for more Sakurai in Heian-kyo, and oh boy. I just hope it’s not this bad. It can’t be, right? Right??

My last great summon for 2023... the lucky grab bag gave me Sherlock for my guaranteed 5 star summon.
...
But then it gave me my true target anyway
With that, I'm pretty satisfied, even after not getting Koyan of Darkness. It's still going to take a bit of work getting her skills maxed out since I have no gold Caster gems left in the pure prism shop til February, and I have to grind QP to get her skills leveled up, but now I have my Arts loop meta with double Castoria and Berserker Musashi, a Buster meta that's still a work in progress with double Koyan of Light and Waver, and now that I have Skadi I'll finally be able to dip my toes into Quick meta this year. Waver gets no days off lol
