since movie 27 is out, and some websites have subtitles, what are you thoughts on the reveal that Toichi is still alive, and the reveal the Shinichi and Kaito being cousins, since their fathers are twins?
Eh, we already knew Toichi is alive and it's still the worst decision ever because it makes the man on the same level of "horrible dad" as Gendo Ikari.
As for the Shin'ichi and Kaito reveal, I loved the idea of the two being cousins ever since I read the long since abandoned "Relative Truth" fanfic by Becky Tailweaver written in 2002. (I would've read it sometime in...2004? I think?) So the fact it's actually reality is absolutely hilarious to me. (In short, love that reveal, 10/10 no notes.)

So I've been rewatching some of the DCMK movies and I started to see a lot of plot holes that I haven't noticed the first time when I watched them. So, in your opinion, which movie has the most well-written plot, or vice versa, the worse-written plot?
Geeze, it’s been a while since I’ve seen the movies. Usually, it’s been the early ones that have been well written, and later ones are more hit or miss when it comes to plot.
In terms of what was the most well-written… I’d have to go back and watch them all for a full answer, but the one that comes to mind right now would be the first movie, maybe. The motive was stupid, but motives can be stupid because need to kill doesn’t always make sense anyway, even when it’s planned destruction, it’s normally emotions that are behind it. And as the first movie, they were trying to put a lot into it at the time, even going so far as to name the villain similar to Moriarty. They didn’t know they’d be doing it annually for the next 20 years, so they were going to make the one they had excellent.
(Movie 2 I don’t remember too many issues with either, but of course movie 3 has the problem of Russian history not being the most accurate and skewing a lot of what the backstories and reasons are. But good on its own. Past that I can remember more faults.)
Worst might have to go to movie 13, largely for trying to make the plot big and important with real risks involved in the story, but somehow keep everyone from finding out and keeping status quo. And as Shinichi’s identity is a huge issue in the series, having a BO member find out about him, even if it was movie only, doesn’t make too much sense. Sure, he had a vendetta against Gin and thus had reason to hold onto his knowledge of Shinichi being alive, but my question would be why was he so interested in ‘Edogawa Conan’ that he decided to look into him. To look into Shinichi and compare the two. Because I still firmly stand by what I’ve said in that it’s unrealistic for every BO member to have the list of APTX victims memorized and go ‘Kudo Shinichi? Isn’t he supposed to be dead?’ Might just makes that movie bad for me in particular. Though there are also questions of ‘do they not wash the props after using them’, and ‘how did he know Shinichi was dressed as Spade when Takagi only mentioned that he was there and helped with the case, did they say he’d made a dramatic appearance at some point after to let Irish learn everything that was being kept secret’. So much done for drama that not only leads to nothing in the end because no consequences, but also doesn’t make sense in the short term of said movie.
(Though I also only barely remember the mystery, so I don’t know if that was supported by everything presented to at least round out an okay stand alone movie.)
And disclaimers:
1) Aside from not having seen the movies in a while, I especially do not remember movie 11. Aside from pirates and the BS scene of explosion and Takagi failing to smoke (all of which are largely from going through DCrewatch posts every now and again), I literally cannot remember a thing. Maybe some bs with sharks, too, based on their misconceptions and not facts. Plot related, though, I can’t remember.
2) I have yet to see movie 20 or movie 21. And barely remember 18. 20 I semi expect to be similar to movie 13, because massive scale BO involvement that can’t really have consequences. But also slightly different because the BO woman has entirely different circumstance.
3) I could give a better answer in like a month if I were to sit down and watch the movies to remember the details. For now, there’s probably some personal opinion in my choices (and the fact that I have the manga versions that I can look through more often and recall the movie). I know for a fact Skyechan would say the biggest movie with plot-hole is 15 because the entire movie could have been avoided if the villain had the slightest bit of common sense. Instead of get bombs and flood everyone. His motive didn’t require him to do that.
#acclaimedkaitou#DC thoughts#To be fair: All the movies have quite a few plot holes#Since they have to be standalone without anything lasting#But movie 1 was made to be standalone and believable enough that the events could have occurred#Without leaving lasting consequences

Something I noticed in episode 384 is that this scene;

Might of been foreshadowing the appearance of Soshi Okita, who also shares the same face as Shinichi.
I don't think so as Okita had already made an appearance in Conan prior to this point, being referenced in Episode 263. Episode 384 is just an anime original, so I don't think the staff meant anything specific by it.

While watching conan as usual, I realized something, is there no movie tie-ins episode for this year's movie?
The movie tie-in episode for The Million-dollar Pentagram was Episode 1120.

Which do you think is the better way to introduce a new fan of Kaitou Kid to Magic Kaito, the specials or 1412?
I'd say do the specials and then if more Kid is wanted, then watch 1412.

Was it ever explained why Haibara goes back to calling Ayumi-chan Yoshida-San? Feel like it’s such a step back in her character :( I’m still on episode 840 but I’ve been confused about it for a while and wonder if I missed something
As far as I recall, the character development was Haibara allowing Ayumi and only Ayumi to call her "Ai-chan", and that part has stuck.
According to the DCW Wiki at least, Haibara has only called Ayumi "Ayumi-chan" twice: once in episode 140 and the other in OVA 11. Both are non-canon instances. So as far as I know, "Yoshida-san" is the way Haibara refers to Ayumi the most throughout the series.

Crunchyroll recently removed comments functionality, which I understand the impulse—comments sections can get really nasty when unmoderated—but I always found the comments on Detective Conan really fun and wholesome. Since I can’t scroll through comments anymore to see people’s reactions to episodes, your blog is even more invaluable. I normally just lurk, but was curious about your thoughts on one of the anime originals. I recently watched episode 1102, The Akabeko and the Three Lucky Men. It had some fun history about the folk craft of akabeko that made me curious enough to look it up later. It might be one of my favorite AOs. Conan gets to do the ojou-sama laugh as Sonoko, we get to learn about Japanese folk art, and there are a lot of puns.
What are your thoughts on these more education-focused episodes? And what the heck is akabeko bekobe supposed to mean? Judging from Conan’s face, it sounds as silly to the Japanese ear as the English ear.
Yeah, I'm disappointed by Crunchyroll's decision as well. The timing seems really bizarre too as there had been some accusations flying around that one of the newer anime ("My Deer Friend Nokotan") was using AI translations, so myself and others are curious if this was done in part to shut down people commenting on the horrendous translation work. :| And of course, now they won't have to pay people to moderate the comment sections so I'm sure they're probably thrilled at saving money that way.
As for the educational episodes, I'm always up for learning something new!
^The Conan staff (probably)
As for the "akabeko bekobe" it's probably just meant to be a silly phrase that incorporates "akabeko", but I don't know as I am by no means fluent in Japanese. :D;

Since Amuro's VA is rightfully stepping down from pretty much every major role he's doing including Sabo from One Piece (Serves him right, should be in jail for what he did really). How do you think you'll adjust to the new VA when they cast them? I know lots of people complained about Kogoro's VA change, although that was before my entering this fandom so I truly didn't notice that much when watching the episodes.
I think I'll adjust just fine! It took a little getting used to hearing a different voice coming out of Kogoro at the time his voice changed, but I don't think my adjustment period at least was very long.
Honestly though, I kinda think Aoyama should probably kill Amuro off. ._. I don't know how Aoyama feels about the whole situation, but the character is named after the voice actor and I dunno how well it'll sit with the public to be constantly reminded of what the voice actor did every time they see that character.

Did you hear the terrible news about Toru Furuya being abusive to his girlfriend?
Indeed I have.
May he lose every single role he has and never work as a VA again. =_=##############

I heard that Yaiba is getting an anime remake. So any thoughts about it.
So I've heard!
My opinion:
I'm sure it'll be great since Wit Studio is doing the production, but at the same time, Yaiba feels a product of its time in my opinion and I have a feeling it's just going to end up being compared to other shows unfavorably outside of this fandom. Things like accusing Yaiba of taking ideas from other more modern series, even if Yaiba predates it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I guess the upside is we'll get to see the entire manga get adapted this time instead of ending it at Kaguya. (Was there really that much demand for Okita ever since he basically branched over from Yaiba? I legitimately don't know.)
tl;dr:
Uhhh, mixed bag of emotions. I'm for it, but not looking forward to people outside the fandom reacting to Yaiba's trope usage.

hi!! do u have a list of the actual order of the episodes? i just noticed that the order of the cases in the anime is very different from the manga and now im very confused bc the whole point of me re watching the show was to catch up with the current events and understand the timeline - and i know that i should be reading the manga if i truly want to understand the story but watching it just brings back so many memories 😕
Hello!
I personally do not, but you could try going through the manga volumes in order on the DCW Wiki and clicking the anime episode that is linked towards the top of each case and this would guarantee that you'd hit each manga case in the order that they actually happen.
However, please note that there have been instances if I recall correctly where because the anime did place a case or two out of order that there may be potential differences between the anime and manga version of cases? (Nothing major I think---cases still have same outcome)
