Changement de Perspective

A l'origine, je voulais détailler, mais je viens juste de finir mon post sur la symbolique de la Chouette et de l'Assaillant et j'en ai marre !!!

Donc, je donne une autre de mes réflexions sur le chapitre 88 en faisant remarquer un potentiel changement de perspective présent dans le manga (mais pas dans l'anime malheureusement) que je n'avais pas encore remarquer. A savoir :

Ici, nous sommes d'accord qu'Eren Jaeger a remplacer son homonyme pour un court instant, sans doute pour illustrer les chemins. Sauf que, plus tôt dans le chapitre, nous avions aussi droit à ça :

Alors je ne sais pas s'il s'agit d'une erreur de coloration des cheveux de Kruger, mais quand je l'ai regarder un peu plus attentivement, ce qui m'a sauter aux yeux, c'est que sur cette planche, il est le portrait craché de Grisha, son successeur... qui se tient pourtant en chair et en os face à lui.

En soit, on peut soit dire qu'il s'agit d'une erreur du dessinateur soit... eh bien, je pense qu'Eren n'a sans doute pas été le seul à revivre ce jour du point de vu de Kruger, surtout au vu du traumatisme associé.

Enfin, la troisième planche (mais qui n'est pas originaire de ce chapitre) qui a attiré mon attention est celle du récit d'Eren sur son passé :

J'espère vraiment que je me trompe mais... le gars au milieu du trio de soldats Mahr ne vous rappelle t-il pas Gross ?

Si oui, cela donnerait une toute nouvelle perspective à ce qu'Eren Kruger était prêt à faire pour atteindre ses objectifs... et ce qu'il a finalement dit à Grisha au sujet de la vengeance.

Pour le peu de paix qu'il aurait pu conserver, j'espère quand même vraiment que je me trompe, sinon, je ne peux même pas imaginer le calvaire insoutenable que ça a dû être pendant toutes ses années.

The main problem that I have with Youtubers who attempt to approach media analysis and fandom through theory and academia is that the vast majority aren't academics. Just being in undergrad isn't actually enough, contrary to the thoughts of many. Reading a Wikipedia article and reiterating what one may find in some Google, even Google Scholar, searches. Ideally, these would be topics approached by people involved in academia as a profession, people with doctoral degrees, who can discuss complex topics in a way that is easily understood by the masses. "What is the negotiation between gender and sex in BL?" "How does CMBYN articulate/complicate hierarchal roles within the gay novel?" "Could SnK express an alternative reading of the formerly isolated Japan?" These are complicated questions they attempt to answer in their video essays when they seldom ever understand the theories they employ.

Yes, I understand this can sound elitist, but as a Black afab person who is currently in a doctoral program for literature, there aren't "easy" answers to any of the questions they attempt to pose, and many Youtubers who primarily make long-form video essays lack the life experience and expertise to sufficiently discuss anything. They're usually too set in their thoughts to answer or explore the broader implications of their claims. Defending a dissertation forces you to do this. Forming a committee of experts in various fields and convincing them to aid you in the development of your dissertation forces you to do this. Being in academic and cordial communication with your peers from all over the world in your field forces you to do this. It's not easy to constantly intake new information from various eras and nations (depending on your topic), meld this information into a coherent essay, and continually make edits as you learn new information, thus changing your outlook on things. Also: it's really petty of me, but it's also incredibly annoying to grade poorly researched undergrad essays who, after some prompting in office hours, say they got these ideas on books, movies, and shows from breadtubers like Somerton, SZ, FD Signifier, or hbomberguy. Cue: me going to watch their videos and realizing they have no idea what they're talking about 88% of the time in terms of theory and application of said theory. Even the ones who frame themselves on being educators in real life, like Signifier, lack any nuance, depth, or media literacy to make a compelling argument if you know even the slightest bit of information. On the bright side, I now know why I've encountered several students with ideologies that are basically conservatism with a veneer of progressivism, or "conservatism in a queer hat."

This concludes my long-winded way of saying "Don't turn to Youtubers for media analysis. You're better off just reading articles by people who have to actually know what they're talking about. The majority of Youtubers (especially the breadtubers) don't have the bandwidth to discuss anything more complex than an episode of Blue's Clues."

I mostly agree, but I'd point to a slightly different problem. I'm hesitant to say that the PhD itself is the deciding factor, but I do think a lot of video essayists are insufficiently prepared.

I'm a big fan of Folding Ideas who does have some formal schooling in film, but I don't think it's that education per se that makes him great. He sets himself apart from other video essayists by actually doing his research and having an in-depth approach to his subjects. He doesn't resort to clickbait, and—here's the key—he often takes months or even a year to work on something.

Honestly, I think that's a big part of it: the hoops most youtubers who want to make a living at it have to jump through involve a lot of clickbait and pandering and a fast production schedule. They don't involve reputable peer review except by the court of shriek-y public opinion on twitter.

They'd like to present themselves as documentary filmmaking (which is essentially what Folding Ideas' longer videos are), but they don't actually live up to any of the usual standards of that either.

I think it can be elitist to say that someone needs to have certain letters after their name, yes, but what really strikes me about your average youtube media analysis type and the fanbase is that they want shortcuts.

Exploring the whole history of the gay novel so that you have enough background to talk about CMBYN means reading quite a few novels. Even if you decide to throw out all past scholarly opinion on the topic (which you shouldn't), if you're going to have a meaningful personal theory, you need to have read a lot of novels first. How can you hope to be the person providing the neat overview of the whole genre if you haven't familiarized yourself widely with said genre, and not just through a summary by someone else? That amount of reading doesn't happen overnight.

The trite, surface-level media analysis online is often from people who want to be hailed as great intellectuals but who aren't willing to put in the years it takes to do all the background reading and to develop their skills in argumentation, writing, etc.

Grad school is a convenient and probably faster way to go about all that, but I think you could do it outside of a formal framework... But you would need to actually do it.

I think it's driven by a bunch of people who were The Smart One in grade school and never learned how to work hard on long-term projects instead of pushing through in a sprint. They're used to relying on being the smartest to cut corners and do things before they get bored, only they probably aren't the smartest anymore anyway, and they mistake being smart at one thing for being smart at all things.

There's a real lack of respect for the entire concept of expertise.

He looked to the door into the room and heard someone walking closer. "Tch, shit." He covered your mouth and shoved you against the shower wall. "Shh." He reached behind him and locked the door.

You moaned a little behind Levi's hand as you felt his body pressed against yours. You blushed as his beautiful and intense locked with yours. You felt an aching between your legs and you could see things running through Levi's mind. First, he was concerned about what was around him, but then you saw something spark inside him as he became very aware of your body against his.

Levi's eyes widened when he heard someone walk close to the door. "I'm going to take my towel off, then lift you up and turn the shower on. When someone looks under they'll just see my feet, okay?"

You nodded.

He pulled his hand away, then whipped his towel off and hooked it up. He lifted you up and wrapped your legs around him. He pressed you against the wall under the showerhead and turned it on so you didn't get wet, but the water ran down his back.

He hushed you. "Be quiet and stay still."

You blushed as your towel pushed up and your ass was on show and everything was pressed against Levi. You shifted a little, which cause you to rub against Levi's pelvis. You shivered and moaned a little.

Levi hushed you. "Be a good girl."

You whined and nodded. "S-Sorry."

He blushed a little, then looked behind him as the door to the showers opened and someone walked it. "Tch, damn it."

You hugged Levi and closed your eyes as his wonderful scent washed over you. You closed your eyes for a moment and hummed in happiness. You touched the hair on the back of his head and enjoyed the feeling of it. You turned your head, then sighed against Levi's ear as someone walked around in the showers.

Levi pouted a little when you left. He got out of bed, cleaned up and dressed for the day. He limped downstairs and saw you with your cute apron on cooking his food and making tea as you hummed a song. He moved closer to you as his fingers tingled. He wanted to touch you so badly.

You smiled as you spooned the rice into bowls. "I know you're there Levi."

He wrapped his arms around you. "How did you know?"

"I could just feel you there. I know my husband."

He pressed his chest against your back, then swayed with you. "You are the most beautiful woman in the whole fucking world, my darling."

You turned in his arms before cupping his face. "You're a cute one today, honey."

He kissed you with a happy moan. "Can I-."

He leaned closer and kissed you. "It's good."

He kissed along your jawline to your neck. "I'm not."

You gasped when he rolled onto you. "Oh my. Levi Ackerman, you are a little energetic this morning."

You tangled your fingers into his soft hair, then pulled him down for a kiss. You smiled against Levi's scared lips. He adored every inch of this man. You loved him for years and you stood by him through everything. You loved how he felt under your fingers. Most would assume army men would have rough skin, but Levi was soft. Levi cleaned himself so much that he was perfectly soft under your hands.

You smiled. "It's okay. I've asked you to join me. We both know we're friends, so screw everyone else."

He hummed, then climbed up and sat. "I just don't want to get into trouble."

You hummed a laugh. "You won't."

Jean smiled. "We should head into town at some point for lunch. We haven't done that in a while."

"That's if you don't mind being seen with an old fart like me."

He laughed. "You're not that old!"

You groaned. "I feel old with all these young cadets coming in." You pouted. "Can't believe how young you are."

Jean smiled. "I guess I am young."

You hummed. "You have your whole life ahead of you Jean. This was one love that went bad."

He groaned. "I know, but she's my dream woman."

You patted his back. "Poor Jean."

"Got any wise words for me, oh dear squad leader friend of mine?"

You opened and closed your mouth. "No. Sorry, I'm all out. I know I'm like a mum to you all, but I am all out now."

Jean smirked. "Can't believe it. You've let me down, squad leader."

You made a sick noise. "Don't call me squad leader. I feel like an old lady."

Hey everyone.

So, I might lose followers for this because I'm a writing blog and I don't get personal, but I am going to.

Now I want to make it clear I know it's none of my followers because you're all wonderful caring people 💕 but I want to just vent here because something very real is going on.

What's happening in Ukraine is not a joke.

I've seen so many tiktoks yesterday and today making a joke about it. War is not a joke. Real people are dying. Real people are losing family members. Real people are in pain.

My country is part of Europe and is getting involved, other countries in Europe are and NATO. This is very real and not a joke!

Stop calling Putin daddy.

Stop using AOT eren as Putin or Boris J for the rumbling.

Stop saying it's fake.

Stop doing skits.

Stop asking to turn people's screams and the bobs into ringtones.

Just stop.

People are losing their lives and that is not a chance for you to get on trending! People dying is not a joke. Your jokes are stopping people from seeing the real news, you're stopping people from seeing what's happening, you're stopping those suffering in Ukraine from showing videos of what is happening, you're stopping the vids showing of brave protestors in Russia. Your trending and jokes over shadow the real important things going on.

Instead of making a joke, reach out to your government and push them to put extreme sanctions on. Boost any Ukraine persons posts!

War is not a joke.

**Also, don't attack Russian people verbally about this. This war was not their choice. Their leader wanted this, not them.

Sorry for my rant everyone. As I said, I know it's no one here, but I had to say it. If you see anyone making a joke on this matter educate them on how real it is. Report videos that turn it into a joke. I love you all and to my followers in Europe, please stay safe ❤️

早速、其う意気込む、泊鳳の対戦相手は、某老舗の対戦剣戟ゲームに出て来る色みたいにセクシーな衣装を着た、虚な目で左片目が金眼の、…186cmはあろうかと言う長身のおば……女性で、如何見ても三十代後は……、アラサーだった。

泊鳳は、少し年相応な、少しだけ少年の様な顔をしながら、RQX-04の方を見る。

「…何だ、変に陰気なおばちゃんズラ。…怖っ……。」

其の時、泊鳳は何気にだが、其のおば……女性のギラギラとした視線を感じた。…相手の、其の目は虚な儘だが……。

「…さぁ、はじめるか！姉ちゃん！」

其の様子を見たRXQ-04は槍を持ち出した。

「？！？！？！？！！」

然も、其の槍は何故か燃えて居る。確か其の名は『フレイムランス』。

…此んな危ない武器を持ち出す相手に泊鳳は大丈夫だろうか。

「…ね、姉ちゃん……。…��れ、ひ、卑怯さね？��」

然し、容赦無く泊鳳を仕留める為に炎の槍で攻撃し始めるおば……女性。

（……あーでもあのおば……姉ちゃんには俺の體動察効かねぇなぁ……。…何でじゃろ？）

此れは、生体部品もだが、『魔人』と『準魔人』は、高G環境にも耐えられる様に、通常の強化人間以上に皮膚を頑丈に強化して居る。…よって、0083本編で度々あった感じの、変な顔の崩れ方はしない。

其れから、體動察と言うのは、体中の、其の中でも目の周囲に集中する體動点を見極めて相手の動きを予測すると言うカラクリの物である。頑丈に強化された肉体の體動点は一切変化しない。故に、體動察は役に立たない。

（…困ったズラね……）

隙を狙って『掌羝破』他体術の神童らしく神掛かった体術を何度も繰り出すが、全弾弾かれる。

（…相手が頑丈過ぎて効かねぇ。…仕方無ぇな……、…先ず、あの炎の槍を何とかするか……）

…泊鳳が敵のフレイムランスを何とかしようとしている其の間、何度も威力が高く手強い払い攻撃とパーラジカとアビドヤーとルーパ（全て不発）を受けるが、其れでも、作戦を変更はしなかった。

…やがて、その後、

「…此れで、…おば……姉ちゃんも俺と同じで素手ズラ！！」

泊鳳によって--未だ燃えて居るにも関わらず--折られた槍は、最後には、其の炎も鎮火し、只のスクラップになった。

「ばーか！！これで武器は使えない……で……ってな？！！！！！？？？」

すると、RXQ-04は次の武器として、電撃を放つ斧を持ち出した。其の名も、『ボルトアクス』である。

「もう、何だよ御前？！？？？！！…其の武器は、ボルトアクス将軍の『ボルトアクス』とでも言うのかズラ！？！？？？？！」

「…はっ、」

それを聞いた彼女は少し笑うと、電撃の斧から逃げる為に、ほぼ反射的に高速で動き回る泊鳳に食らいつく様に追いかけはじめる。泊鳳の方も、其の様な武器を「次こそは！」と、飛ばす為に、慎重にチャンスを伺う。

その間、泊鳳は、沢山の打撃と電撃と、----遂に沢山の幸せ投げを受けた。その上、然し、泊鳳は決して折れない。

…そして、

（今ズラ！）

見事に電撃の斧を力強く、兎に角、遠く、遠くに投げ、其の斧を戦いで使えない様にする。

そして、泊鳳は啖呵を切る様に自信を持って此う大声で宣言する。

「…おば……姉ちゃん、今度こそ年貢の納め時だぜ！！」

（…正直、勝てる気はしねぇが……やるか）

體動察もロクに使えない儘ではあるが……、泊鳳は、やっと--体術の神童である自分の側が断然有利になる--ステゴロでの戦いに持ち込み……、が。

…其の瞬間。

「捕まえたよ！！」

RXQ-04は、其う言いながら、太腿で其の少年の胴体を捕まえた後、其の儘スライドする様に、相手の頭を太腿で掴んだ後、一気に地面に打ち付けてから、一瞬倒れた其の少年を何十回も足蹴りにする。

…そして、其の後、一通り、泊鳳を一方的に、所々気力ドレインを折り混ぜながら、叩きのめした後、デイン帝国四駿の紅一点であり其の一角にも似た彼女は、泊鳳を蹴り飛ばしながら、こう呟いて勝負を終える。

「…何？……早過ぎる。…もう満足だって言うのかい？？」

…。

武器銘 「フレイムランス」、「ボルトアクス」（※いずれも『FE蒼炎』から）。

…。

罦傑vs

武器銘 ガンダリウム合金製打刀「矢山」（※自分で鍛えた自作の刀）

？「キッショ！何で俺と同じ名前なんだよ（※じゅじゅつの名シーンパロディ）。」

（※何時も研磨と手入れは、名前の由来になった本人の前で機械を用いてやる）

…。

…RXQ全シリーズの調査を依頼された罦傑がRXQ-03を見つける。

「……。」

「…御前がRXQ-03か？早速だが仕事をさせて貰う。」

其う罦傑が言うと、大量に蛇の増援がやって来るが、RXQ-03は、凄まじい速さで、蛇を手討ちにして、切り刻んで行く。

「…は、早い！！」

余りにも早い刀での捌き方に、罦傑は驚愕した（※→驚愕する）。

やっと、蛇の一匹がRXQ-03の腕を噛むが、其れは一切として刺さらず、逆に、蛇の牙が折れた。そして、其の蛇も、素早く簡単に斬り捨てられる。

「…チッ、何て奴だ。…何だよ此奴。…宇宙人か何かかよ？」

そして、-03は、蛇を全部斬り終えると、罦傑本体に突貫して行く。

「…此んな見た目でもさ、俺は意外と暗殺者なんだぜ？」

罦傑は暗器----暗器��、小刀、メリケンサックの類を一通り出して、応戦するが、其れも虚しく……、

其の時、罦傑は神速の速さで大斬りっされ……

「…カトンボ共が。」

勝負あり！！

最終的には、RXQ-03に罦傑は、大きく袈裟斬り----真っ二つにされた。

「…矢張り、賢しいだけだったか……。」

最後に、刀に付いた血を払ってから、手持ちの布で拭き終えてから、刀をしまう。

I was reading another fanfic where Wei Wuxian gets thrown in the burial mounds, struggles to survive, and resorts to cannibalism to do so.

Sat with that for a few minutes and then wondered, "What are the symptoms of prion disease?"

It doesn't quite work, but it would have been an interesting explanation for his slow descent into more and more unstable behaviour.

Wen Yuan doesn't call Wei Ying dad, so he's not calling for him.

Either he latched on to Lan Zhan cause he's scared and starts calling for his dad.

I've always been very confused when it comes to WWX status within the Jiang sect.

He's a disciple, he's treated like a disciple, but then suddenly people start calling him a servant.

Can servants be disciples? Is it a case of not being gentry but you're part of the sect so that means you're called servant?

There's aren't any other disciples being called servants that I've noticed.

La symbolique de la Chouette et l'Assaillant :

Alors... je viens de relire (de nouveau), le chapitre 88 de SnK et plusieurs interrogations me viennent en tête. Je voulais tout mettre dans le même post mais, comme d'habitude, je me suis laisser emporter et ça donne quelque chose de très long. Peut-être même le plus long que j'ai jamais écrit, d'ailleurs. Oups ?

Donc, l'interrogation que je traiterais ici sera : pourquoi le pseudonyme de la Chouette était-il celui d'Eren Kruger ?

Dit comme ça, je suis d'accord que ça peut paraître bizarre mais il m'est venu à l'esprit que ce choix en particulier était vraiment intéressant, surtout pour un détenteur du titan Assaillant, et ce, pour plusieurs raisons :

La chouette est un oiseau qui, dans SnK, semble représenter la liberté de part sa capacité à aller où elle le désire, sans contrainte aucune. Mais, selon une autre interprétation qui, selon moi, peut très bien aller de pair avec la première, l'oiseau pourrait aussi symboliser la connaissance car plus les personnages en savent et plus ils peuvent prendre des décisions éclairées sur la portée de leurs actes. Dans un monde où ils sont condamnés à souffrir quoiqu'ils fassent, c'est peut-être le meilleur qu'on peut leur souhaiter.

Une autre chose est que la chouette est un animal nocturne, qui attaque de nuit en profitant du couvert de l'ombre et dont la technique de chasse consiste à s'approcher silencieusement de sa proie inconsciente jusqu'à ce qu'il soit trop tard. Ce qui, à mon sens, se rapporte très bien à l'Assaillant, pas seulement au prédécesseur des deux Jaeger.

Kruger était un espion dans le gouvernement qui, sans se faire identifier, a réussit à participer à la mise en place d'un réseau révolutionnaire juste sous le nez de ses ennemis.

Grisha est parvenu a identifier la famille royale sans attirer leurs soupçons même une seule fois (des années après et, sans doute, une enquête approfondie menée sur le sujet, Rod Reiss dira encore à Eren ''tout ignorer de son père'' ce qui veut dire quelque chose !) et a voler le pouvoir de l'Originel en les approchant au moment où ils étaient le plus vulnérables, l'attention étant accaparé par la chute du mur.

Eren s'est infiltré sur le continent Mahr durant des mois tout en complotant la chute de tous ses ennemis dans l'ombre avec succès, mis en place une cellule dissidente à son propre gouvernement dont personne ne s'est douter jusqu'à ce qu'il soit trop tard et est celui qui a dit que ''l'ignorance était le plus grand ennemi de la liberté''. D'ailleurs, son père avait un crédo semblable au sujet de l'esprit humain ne pouvant être retenu par de simples paroles si je me souviens bien.

Aussi, je ne sais pas pour vous mais j'aime beaucoup l'idée de la chouette pour deux autres raisons :

Il s'agît d'un oiseau prédateur qui n'est donc pas du genre à se laisser traquer sans réagir, ce qui correspond tellement bien à Eren Jaeger que ça me fait sourire rien qu'à y penser.

La symbolique de la chouette, dans la culture européenne est souvent rapporter à la mythologie grecque ou greco-romaine qui est très populaire. Et, ici, la chouette est le symbole d'Athéna, déesse grecque de la connaissance, de la sagesse et de la guerre dans le sens stratégique de celle-ci (Arès en représentant l'aspect combatif et la violence l'accompagnant) de par sa ruse. Alors, je me suis intéressée à ce que je pouvais trouver et, parmi les différentes symboliques rattachés à cette déité, j'ai trouver des choses... troublantes.

Ainsi, outre les caractéristiques précédemment décrites, en me concentrant sur les autres symboles, je me suis rendu compte que l'on comptait parmi ces symboles :

Niké la déesse de la victoire et alliée d'Athéna, soeur des déités de la Force et de l'Ardeur.

L'olivier qui représente, entre autre, la force, la victoire et la sagesse, renforçant ce qui est déjà apporté par le symbole d'Athéna et de la chouette.

Le serpent qui est associé au monde des morts et au savoir, soit divin, soit inquiétant, toujours mystérieux et qui serait capable de révéler l'avenir et le passé.

Mais également, une phrase du philosophe allemand (tiens donc !) du nom de Georg Wilhelm Friederich Hegel est que : ''La chouette de Minerve prend son envol au crépuscule''. Ce qui signifierait quelque chose en rapport avec le retard prit par la conscience humaine sur les évènements mais aussi la façon dont les humains ne prennent conscience de leurs erreurs qu'une fois qu'il est trop tard.

Et, c'est peut-être sans rapport, mais dans le contexte SnK, ça me rappelle les mots d'Eren avant de se transformer face à Annie. Quand il dit qu'il n'a pas le temps de se demander ce qui est juste ou ne l'est pas et qu'il doit agir. Ici, il fait alors passer l'action avant ses propres réflexions et, involontaire ou pas, je trouve que c'est un bel écho à cette phrase. On pourrait aussi parer du fait que, dans SnK, les Assaillants (ainsi que plein d'autres personnages) ne prennent conscience/admettent de leurs erreurs qu'au crépuscule (ou ce qu'il pense l'être, souvent à raison) de leur vie.

Kruger avec les restaurateurs et la torture qu'il a infligé à ses victimes.

Grisha et ses erreurs avec Siëg puis, plus tard, avec les Reiss.

Eren avec le Grand Terrassement/Rumbling.

Sans parler du fait que la passation de pouvoir d'Eren Kruger (qui portait ce pseudonyme) à Grisha a eu lieu au crépuscule, que ce dernier l'a donner à son fils peu après le coucher du soleil et que, à en croire certains artwork (je ne sais pas s'ils sont officiels par contre), le manga voit son arc final atteindre sa résolution au crépuscule.

Wow, j'ai réussi à ne pas spoiler et ce n'était pas facile.

Bref. Je trouvais juste intéressant de faire remarquer que si plusieurs personnages pourraient s'identifier à la phrase d'Hegel, les Assaillants sont les seuls auxquels je peux actuellement penser qui correspondent aussi bien à la partie philosophique que littéral.

Aussi, en parlant de cette scène de passation et de la conversation qui l'a précédée, plus haut, je parlais des mythologies grecque et romaine mais saviez-vous qu'au Japon, selon son espèce, la Chouette est considéré à la fois comme une ''démone'' ou une ''messagère des dieux'' ? Et n'y a t-il pas une interrogation semblable au sujet d'une certaine personne précisément dans ce chapitre ?

Comme plusieurs de ces mots sont polysémiques, j'y ait ajouter le sens dans lequel ils doivent être prit (courtoisie du Centre National des Ressources Textuelles et Lexicales pour la plupart) pour en favoriser la compréhension. Et non, je ne fais pas ça car je pense que vous ne comprendriez pas sans mais juste par prudence sachant que certains (guerre, discrétion, liberté... etc.) ont plus d'une dizaine de sens différents selon le contexte d'usage.

Force : Ensemble des ressources physiques, morales ou intellectuelles qui permettent à une personne de s'imposer ou de réagir.

-> Dans le manga, il est souvent mis en valeur que chaque individu possède ses propres forces et faiblesses.

Ardeur : Vivacité ou vigueur que l'on apporte à faire quelque chose. / Désir violent de quelque chose. / Passion.

-> Ce genre de chose ne se rapporte t-il pas tout à fait à l'Assaillant ? Eren Jaeger est le premier qui me vient en tête, bien sûr, mais même Grisha et Kruger, s'ils n'ont pas toujours céder à la passion, ont été en proie à des désirs violent d'obtenir quelque chose, qu'il s'agisse de la liberté et de la vengeance.

Ruse : Procédé dont on use à la guerre pour tromper l'ennemi sur ses intentions. / Habileté à feindre pour arriver à ses fins; art de tromper.

-> Ici, Eren Kruger et Grisha Jaeger en sont de très bon exemples de part leurs contributions respectives (fuite d'informations, vol de l'Originel) à la cause pour laquelle ils ont choisis de se battre.

Guerre Stratégique : Ensemble d'actions coordonnées, d'opérations habiles, de manœuvres en vue d'atteindre un but précis. / Partie de la science militaire qui traite de la coordination des forces armées (en intégrant les aspects politiques, logistiques et économiques) dans la conduite d'une guerre ou dans l'organisation de la défense d'une nation, d'une coalition.

-> Cela peut se rapporter, à la fois au fait que ce sont les actions coordonnées des trois Assaillant connus (et sans doute plusieurs de leurs prédécesseurs) qui ont permit la victoire d'Eren mais également la façon dont celui-ci a pu mener a bien le Grand Terrassement grâce à l'aide de sa propre faction, celle de Siëg mais aussi les actions de ses opposants et ennemis ans le but de défendre sa nation / les personnes qui lui sont précieuses.

Prédation : Synonyme de ''chasse'' qui est l'action de poursuivre, de chercher à atteindre pour s'emparer. Recherche ardente, tenace d'un objet, concret ou abstrait.

-> Juste... entre l'obsession de la liberté des Assaillants, l'action de chercher à s'emparer de quelque chose (ici le pouvoir de l'Originel) à tout prix et le nom ''Jaeger'', ai-je vraiment besoin de le détailler davantage ?

Connaissances : Avoir atteint l'âge où l'on est apte à discerner la valeur de ses actions petites ou grandes.

-> Une autre chose qui fait, selon moi, le charme de SnK, c'est qu'outre le renversement brutal de nos perspectives que nous inflige (oui, ce mot-là car c'est toujours douloureux, voir déchirant, pour les lecteurs) le manga, SnK est aussi une histoire sur la façon dont la capacité à gagner en maturité et en connaissance élargit notre vision, non seulement sur nous-mêmes mais aussi le monde qui nous entoure... et les conséquences de nos actes qui vont avec.

Au-delà : Ce qui fait suite à la vie terrestre, le monde où l'on situe la vie future.

-> Bon, là-dessus, je n'étais pas trop certaine mais vous savez quoi ? Je le met quand même car, quand j'ai vu cette symbolique associé au fait de se passer de la chaleur de la vie, j'ai immédiatement penser aux Chemins qui sont l'au-delà eldien littéral ! Ou, au minimum, celui des shifter, incluant les Assaillant.

Temporalité : Pouvoir temporel. / Caractère de ce qui est dans le temps, de ce qui appartient au temps et de ce qui s'y déroule.

-> Après le chapitre 121 ou l'épisode... 4, je crois, de la saison 4 partie 2 (qui était d'ailleurs splendide !), ai-je vraiment besoin d'expliciter ?

Discrétion : Caractère de ce qui est accompli de manière à passer inaperçu, à rester secret; fait de passer inaperçu, de rester secret. / Qualité consistant à garder les secrets.

-> Un rapport intéressant aux missions d'espionnages respectives de Kruger et Grisha ainsi que de la capacité d'Eren a dissimuler le pouvoir de l'Assaillant jusqu'au moment opportun sans aucun soupçon (de la part des autres personnages).

Interprétation : Attribution d'une signification déformée ou erronée à un fait réel, à un événement, à un comportement.

-> Ici, ce qui est mit en valeur est à la fois la façon dont la situation de Paradis est posé selon à qui l'ont demande (soldats ou guerriers), la façon dont Mahr est vue par le reste du monde (héros triomphateur des démons ou colonisateurs agressifs), les différents points de vue sur Eren lui-même (sauveur et libérateur ou démon meurtrier) ainsi que sur Ymir la Première (déesse ou démone, esclave ou personne).

Contradiction : Relation existant entre deux notions dont l'une nie l'affirmation de l'autre.

-> C'est à peu près la même chose que ce que je dis plus haut avec, cette fois-ci, l'introduction de la nuance voulant que ces interprétations sont non seulement divergentes mais aussi opposées et irréconciliables. De la même façon que les protagonistes ne peuvent pas être soldat et guerrier ou déesse et démone autrement que dans les regards d'autrui.

Liberté : Droit pour tout individu de faire ses choix. / Possibilité d'agir, de penser par soi-même; refus de toute sujétion aux choses, de toute pression d'autrui. / État de celui qui se détermine après réflexion, en connaissance de cause, d'après des motifs qu'il accepte; état de celui qui contrôle ses passions et qui réalise dans ses actes, le bien, la raison, la vérité considérés comme l'expression de sa nature profonde.

-> Vu la façon dont nous avons eu ce mot à toute les sauces et la façon dont il est dit que l'Assaillant est celui qui se bat pour la liberté (ironique quand on sait qu'Isayama a déclaré ne pas savoir ce dont il s'agissait exactement), je ne pense pas que j'ai besoin de préciser davantage en quoi il se relie aux Assaillant. Cependant, pour les courageux qui ont lu jusqu'ici, je serais curieuse de connaître leur interprétation de ce mot.

Personnellement, je pense qu'il s'agit de la capacité à faire ses propres choix, en toutes connaissances de causes et conséquences tout en ayant sa propre définition de ce qu'est la liberté personnelle car personne n'en aura une définition identique. Qu'il s'agisse de venger les personnes qu'on aime, de pouvoir vivre la tête haute sans être constamment rabaissé, de ne pas être obligé à commettre des actes que nous ne désirons pas, d'aller où on le désire sans contrainte et partout dans le monde... chacun peut définir par lui-même ce qu'il considère comme la liberté et si celle qu'il possède actuellement lui suffit.

Vous pourriez penser que ce sont des coïncidences et, peut-être auriez-vous raison. Pour ma part, je trouve que ça fait beaucoup de hasard autour d'un seul sujet, surtout quand on sait qu'Isayama s'est spécifiquement inspiré des culture romaines et scandinaves pour créer les Marleyens et les Eldiens.

Death

I suddenly recalled that the following theory of mine was mocked.

When chapter 130 came out, I was re-reading chapter 88 and found quite intresting the coincidence of topics that also explained the weird overlap of panels in chapter 130. What had Mikasa’s feelings for Eren to do with the pregnancy and so on..? While it’s true that all those three points (Floch, the pregnancy and the convo with Zeke) pointed out every single step Eren took to prepare his plan, I do believe there is something hidden and of course the focus isn’t a fathership but another kind of argumental connection.

It’s about death. Specifically, Eren’s death: the sole connection between him and that baby.

I tried to summarize the connection of all the topics between both chapters in this image.

In chapter 88, Eren’s death to the curse was introduced for the first time, a topic that Eren brought in ch. 130 as a reason to reject a future with Mikasa who would be the person to suffer his loss the most and that also represents the importance of his existence and will to come back home. Mikasa asking him constantly to come home means the aim to stay alive and his rejections are due to (the multiple factors I’ll sumarize with one concept) “his fate“ that doesn’t let him stay alive/come back home. And since it’s his fate, he was never meant to be able to keep his promise to her: the real tragedy.

Just a brief side note: If I consider this as a symbolic death, the choice of going along with the rumbling and leting his violent side take the control means  that the Eren who gathered and deserved Mikasa’s love “died”.

Back to the relation between both chapters, an important pattern to highlight in both chapters are the mention about a death and a new life. This points out a different way, a more natural one, to hand down the power we never heard about and whose details and consequences we don’t know either. Regarding the new life (baby) that should inherit the power, I want to remark the statement about the blood relation and distance not being important at all.

Another coincidence is chapter 108. It beginns with the meeting of the MPs talking about the reasons behind Historia’s pregnancy and then Mikasa recalls the conversation about Eren’s successor as the next FT/AT.

Previously, this text was in chapter 107, points out the fate Eren would be choosing since hid birth as if his death and the birth of this baby, were the conclusion of this chain reaction. (I repeat: technically, there’s no need of blood relations :)

The last two chapters also recalled this again:

Chapter 133 ended with 13 blimps heading to the AT (death) and chapter 134 (13″4) began with the birth of Historia’s child (new life).

Finally, I summarized some points from canon that point out to Eren’s death:

1. The curse itself that also provided him another reason to struggle to give his existence a meaning through a big deed/sacrifice.

2. The motto: “The price of searching for freedom is death”. (hinted by Grisha in ch. 87/8 and before the ceremony in ch. 90)

3. The two times that this profecy stated by Shadis “His life is like a blazing fire. And I’m sure that fire will burn him to ashes outside the walls”, and this quote from the final exhibition “By now you already know. That in this world there isn’t just one truth. There’s only one sure thing, and that is that you were born here. That’s why, keep choosing your own truth. That’s why, keep advancing until the life you were given will have exhausted its flame.” (credit for the transl. to yaboylevi)

4. Eren’s own conception of justice: “animals don’t have the right to live” that now turns against himself since he became one of them.

5. Last chapter when the officer wished for a new era of peace where they part ways with their monsters and the AT is shown... It’s not refering to the titans but the monster everyone can become by commiting a violent act. Now, Eren became the sole monster facing this attack and the question is if it is possible for him to have a place in a pacific era.

Eren’s death would have a symbolic meaning about humanity finally refusing violence and giving up on revenge. It seems that Eren chose to let his urge of freedom and violence unleashed because he can’t go against it and lets now the world try to restrain it and decide if he has a place in the future.

If Eren was aware of this or not... I don’t know. I do risk to say that he new his death could be a possible outcome which he would accept. At the time where he answered Zeke in regards of Mikasa’s feeling for him that he would be dead in 4 years he may have been aware that maybe this battle now would be his last mission. This also fits with the theory of Eren going along with a kamikaze mission.

Still if this happens or not, is something yet to be decided. Eren for sure was aware of this and maybe planed to hand down the power to the baby. If it happens, I guess we will get to know how a natural inheritance works. It’s also possible that the paths stop working. But I’m expecting that someone comes up with a solution to this question.

The Boy in the Closet

(about Eren Kruger)

This post is suggested by @theroadlesstaken95​, and it’s about our favourite man of mystery Eren Kruger. To delve into Kruger’s character, I think we can start with this line which Kruger said to Grisha Yeager:

From the first day I came here to kick my compatriots to their deaths, from the day you brought your sister outside the wall, those actions will follow us until they’re repaid.

Kruger is saying that the momentous decisions we made, even when they seem momentous only in hindsight, will irrevocably alter the course of our lives and show their influence in everything we do. These decisions will continue to haunt us until they have exhausted their sinister power, or until our life ends.

The momentous decision Kruger made is to sacrifice his own conscience for the sake of Eldia. From the first day he kicked his compatriots to their death, Kruger had set himself on a path where he’d have to do these things again and again. He couldn’t give up half-way just because he could not endure the guilt of torturing and killing his own people; if he had aborted the mission, the deaths of the Eldians at his hand would have been utterly meaningless. It’s because of their sacrifice that Kruger was able to move closer to restoring Eldia, and Kruger has to persist on this path to make sure their deaths are not in vain.

By choosing this decision, Kruger chooses a life of hell for himself, as he has to do what he most loathes to do again and again until the end of his life. But Kruger’s path didn’t start from there – it all started when Kruger hid in a closet and looked from a crack at his father being burned to death:

“As a child, all I could do was watch from a crack in the closet as it happened. I was too scared to do anything else…maybe I’m still the same as then. I’m just looking out into the world from a crack in a closet door.”

Yes, maybe Kruger hasn’t changed at all; as a secret restorationist, he is still someone who hides his presence in the shadows and looks on while tragedies unfold right next to him. But on the other hand, little Kruger was able to survive because he hid in the darkness and concealed himself. And maybe subconsciously, the adult Kruger still clings to this pattern of behaviour because this is what saved him, and this is the only survival mechanism that makes him feel safe.

Kruger is a man shrouded in mystery and secrecy, but what really humanizes his character is his self-description as a child looking out from the closet door. Kruger is “the Owl”, a name that mystifies him and almost turns him into an abstract symbol for his people; but Kruger is also the boy who looked on fearfully and helplessly from a crack in the closet. Despite his fears, Kruger fought on for what he believed in, and he endured the hell he chose for himself.
