Stanley is a vessel. He is textually made to be there for the Player to exist through him. Except he's not the Ideal vessel.

There are moments when the Player loses control. There are parts of the story we do not know and cannot see. The freedom ending. The escape pod endings. The confusion ending.

Stanley has the capability to exist without the Player. But we know he wasn't meant to. Why is it that he can be on his own in certain instances?

What is it like to be made to be a tool? He has no voice. He cannot see himself. He is limited to the the paths made by another for another and he is merely part of the path between the Narrator and the Player. He is integral to the story. He is as much a part of the Parable as its walls and doors.
