Synopsis: You have been a pro-hero for the past three years, and a damn good one too (although, you don’t think so). When you and Ground Zero are assigned on a stakeout case together to capture a member of the Dark Akumu, which is currently Musutafu's most threatening Villain League, it changes the entire course of your career-- and your life.
Length : 2.2k words

You wake up. Go upstairs. You shower, do your morning skincare, brush your teeth. You go downstairs. Turn on the stove. Crack an egg, scramble the egg and eat the egg. The same as always.
Except today, you have something special to look forward to. Something intriguing. Something exciting. Something new!
Your research on Ground Zero last night issued expected results; Bakugou is the same imprudent idiot he’s always been. In a way, it’s comforting, because you know what to expect. But how has he reached the list of top ten heroes with his hasty mannerisms? How will he climb up on that list, let alone remain on it?
You spend the rest of your day checking out your fellow 3-A classmate’s careers. Unsurprisingly, Izuku is currently the number five hero with a heart of gold. Uraraka isn’t in the top ten, but she’s quickly rising to the top fifty. Considering she’s only twenty, that’s a feat. He and Uraraka finally admitted their feelings (you laugh at the image of how awkward it must have been for the two of them. They’ve never been the type to confront and thoroughly manage their emotions) and have been dating for two years, which is adorable. Todorki is approaching the top twenty, with Yaoyurozo, Kirishima, and Kaminari not far behind. Tsuyu is only within the top one hundred, which is discouraging; You know she holds more power than that. But being a hero at sea, she doesn’t receive much notoriety for her deeds.
At 2:30 you’re on your way to the station, your stomach craving the promised spicy food. When you arrive, the station is flooded with civilians. As to not accidentally poison someone, you throw on a hoodie over your shirt and zip up a sweatshirt over that. You squeeze a pair of sweatpants over your leggings, pull up your hood, and walk into the building.
You move with the current of the crowd, though try avoiding contact with anyone by yelling "excuse me," and "sorry!" with every move you make. It’s a relief when you finally reach the conference room at 2:55, feeling comfortable enough to shimmy out of your sweatpants and take off your sweatshirt.
“Y/n! You sure found this place easily through that crowd,” Chief Sheriff Chie notes.
“I followed the scent of this sweet, spicy wasabi.” You eagerly grab a plate of sushi and promptly dip it into a small Wasabi bowl. After taking a satisfying bite, you look back up to Chie. “I’m surprised I made it through there and survived to tell the tale. Why is it so crowded?” You ask before shoving more sushi in your mouth.
“Did you not see the news last night?” she questions, and you shake your head. “Another Dark Akumu attack followed with multiple instances of robberies and looting all over the city.” Chie runs a hand through her thinning hair. Her undereye bags darken and her wrinkles grow more defined with every day that passes. “This is why we need your help, Ether. And Ground Zero--”
Chie is cut off by a crash of the door slamming open. You turn around, and there he is.
 Ground Zero. Katsuki Bakugou.
A piece of fish slips out of your gawking mouth, though you quickly pick it up and shove it back in. Ground Zero completely disregards your presence, preferring to take the seat five chairs away from you that's closest to the food. He aggressively grabs a cup of donburi and sprinkles on shichimi togarashi, his biceps subtly flexing with every movement. He leans back into his chair, throws his feet up on the table and sighs dramatically.
“Let’s get this shit over with so I can kick some supervillain ass,” he grumbles before shoving chopsticks of rice in his mouth. Both you and Chie gawk at Ground Zero before meeting eyes with a gulp. Then you take another bite of your sushi as Chie starts the presentation.
She finishes rehashing the information she discussed with both of you yesterday in about a half-hour, which is enough time for you and Ground Zero to devour your meals.
“Now, the goal is for you to capture Youkai. Don’t bother with the other criminal; The Dark Akumu is our top priority. We don’t know when the deal is going to take place, but we do know where.” She clicks her remote, and a picture of the infamously beautiful forest in your area appears; The forest where you and the rest of class 3-A experienced your second villain attack, back when you were class 1-A. “A clearing in the Beasts forest.”
“You two will stakeout until the villains arrive. When you capture Youkai, call me and I’ll immediately alert the police force. Your time starts,” the Sheriff looks at the clock. 4:45. She stares at the two of you with a wide grin that’s hungry for justice. “Now.”
Ground Zero immediately stomps out the door, leaving his mess for you to clean up. Once everything is thrown out and you’ve grabbed your sweatshirt and sweatpants, Chie pulls you to the side.
“You’re an amazing hero, Y/n. And the two will make an amazing team. Don’t doubt yourself, and don’t let emotion cloud your judgment. You can do this.”
When you catch up with Ground Zero he’s leaning against his expensive-ass car, twirling his keys around his pointer finger. Before you so much as open your mouth, he announces you’ll be taking his car. Though you don’t object, as it’s very spacious, making it more than suitable for a nightlong stakeout.
When you climb in shotgun you close the door as gently as you can, as to not piss off the walking bomb you're being forced in a car with for several hours. At the same time, Ground Zero shuts the door with a slam that rattles the entire car. He keeps the radio off but turns on the AC to create white noise. Although, the monotonous buzzing drives you insane.
“Can we turn on the radio or something?!” You moan after only ten minutes into the thirty-minute car ride. Ground Zero shakes his head. You groan and turn to face him.“Please! We have all night to silently bask in the AC, we can at least have some fun now.” He rolls his eyes and picks up his phone to start typing. 1“No texting and driving, Mr. hero.” You tease. He ignores you and passes you his phone with Spotify already open.
“Fine. But my car, my music.” You could live with those terms. “Put on Together PANGEA.”
You type in his band selection and press play before putting the phone in a cup holder. You reluctantly lean deep into your car seat, getting comfortable without letting your guard down.
You expect Ground Zero to be into headbanging, rave rockstar type shit. But surprisingly, you enjoy his indie punk selection. You smile and wiggle your shoulders a bit to the rhythm, and when the song ends, another by the same band follows. You giggle when you notice Ground Zero tapping his fingers against the car wheel to the beat.
You rest your head on the window and gaze into the sunset. Maybe if you and Ground Zero weren’t so rigid and awkward, maybe if you were normal people (or possibly a normal couple), you would enjoy a sunset like this together.
When you arrive at the forest, the car creeps between trees until it reaches a hidden area outside the clearing. At 5:15 Ground Zero brings his car to a halt and turns it off. Music, AC, and all.
The two of you sit in silence for an uncomfortable amount of time. Ground Zero pushes his seat into a lying position and kicks his feet up on the dashboard, engrossed in his phone, while you stiffly remain in your seat beside him. This is the most intimate you have ever been with him. While six years ago you would’ve loved this and taken advantage of it, currently you’re fidgeting with the door handle and staring blankly at your phone. After a few more minutes of this, you decide to put your layers back on. You zip up your sweatshirt and slide on your sweatpants. Though with the AC off, you quickly grow hot. Ground Zero notices the perspiration dripping down your chiseled cheeks and looks at you for the first time in years.
“You don’t have to keep all those layers on, you know. I can handle your quirk,” he comments, flicking his attention between you and his phone.
You don’t look at him, instead choosing to focus on wrapping your sweatpants string around your finger. “I don’t want to take any risks. I’ve involuntarily hurt people before.”
“I secret nitroglycerin sweat, Y/n. I can inhale some of your gas.” he retorts before he pauses. When he realizes what this really is about, he sets down his phone. “Plus, that nerd Deku’s forgiven you by now. And long forgotten about it.”
This is when you turn to Ground Zero in shock. He… remembers that?
“You were so wrapped up in wishing death upon everyone in the class I’m surprised you even remember that.” You admit. You mean for it to come off harsh, but a faint snicker escapes your lips. Ground Zero did spend a lot of time threatening to kill Deku and several other classmates. But he was just being dramatic. (Hopefully)
He laughs menacingly, which you guess is the only way he knows how. Honestly, you’re not sure if he feels any other emotion other than passionate violence. “How could I forget? That all-powerful loser was stuck smooching with recovery girl for a week! I was mad I didn’t do that.”
You gasp, pushing yourself to the edge of the car seat to distance yourself from him. “Why would you want to do that? He was in a coma!” You clear your throat after taking a deep breath. “I put my friend in a coma.” You wrap your arms tightly around yourself to suppress a shutter from the memory. “Because I couldn’t control my quirk.”
“Oh, cut it with the emo crap,” he growls. “Your quirk is strong and he couldn’t handle it. It wasn’t your fault.”
“Because of my quirk, toxins are constantly leaking out of my body. For combat, I can concentrate the mass of the fumes into certain areas, but no matter what, they’re always oozing into the air. Everywhere.”  You stare at your hands, watching them steadily emit a nearly imperceptible gas. But you know it’s there; You know its harmful. You force your hands into fists, keeping the fumes entrapped in your clutches. “I have to protect others from myself. I’m toxic. I can’t hurt another innocent person.” You look up at Ground Zeroes' blurring body. Within seconds, all you can make out is the outline of his grenade gauntlets and signature spiky hair. That’s when you realize you’re tearing up.
“Y/n--” he reaches out to you, but you slap his hand away.
“It’s Ether, Ground Zero. Ether.” You snap, blinking away the tears before they dare spill from your eyes.
All of high school, he never so much as noticed you outside calling you an “extra”. And now he finally wants to address you by your name, like you’re friends. Like he ever treated you with an ounce of damn respect.
No. He’ll call you by your hero name. So he’ll be forced him to refer to you as an equal. He’ll never call you Y/n. Not until he proves he won’t hurt you again; Which he won’t, because this is Bakugou you’re talking about.
“What’s your problem, shitty breath?” he mocks. Even though that was just the cruel nickname he gave you in highschool, you blow into your hand and sniff in the air. Your breath smells fine.
“Who are you calling shitty breath, hothead?! It’s not even clever!” You bicker. “I’m a pro-hero now. We’re not at U.A anymore; You can’t call me shitty names and get away with it.” You squint your eyes at the ‘hero’ and cross your arms. “I won’t let you.”
“Oh, you won’t?” A smirk spreads across his face, and you refuse to let him see how startled you are. Another perk of being a hero; You know when to put on a mask, and how to keep up that facade. “How do you plan on stopping me?” He places his hands behind his head and closes his eyes, maintaining relaxed, poised body language. “If I remember right, you were never able to beat me back at U.A. What makes you think you can now?” When he opens his eyes, fire dances within them. And that’s when you finally understand. Bakugou has learned to control his demeanor to appear composed and carefree. But on the inside, he’s the violently spirited fighter you’ve always known him to be.
Embers that haven’t so much as sparked in a while ignite within you. You quirk an eyebrow.
“Are you challenging me, Bakugou?” You haven’t used his name in so long, and you love the way it feels on your lips.
Bakugou's smirk morphs into a shit-eating grin, but the determination in his eyes frightens you. He’s relentless, and he’ll fight until you drop if it means he wins. And you know its his unbreakable determination that will fuel him till the end.
But you’re ambitious too. Your brain says you can’t beat him, but your heart encourages you to try.
When Ground Zero gets out of the car, you follow.
You won't let him treat you like shit without standing up for yourself.
Never again.

It was a relief to relax again; to simply enjoy the feel of each other’s lips and hands on each other for a little while, there in the circuitry bay. Leia tried hard to quiet her worries, and for a moment, she almost succeeded.
That moment was soon interrupted, however. Chewie stuck his head in the door, braying something about it being time for food, with an addendum about how it would be great if they pursued their mating rituals somewhere outside of his sight and hearing.
«Besides,» he noted, «I’ve prepared something special.»
Duly chastised, they made their way to the dejarik table. Emotionally, Leia felt as though she’d just flown through some particularly rough in-air turbulence, and she wasn’t that hungry—at least, not until she caught the scent of whatever was in the bowl Chewie was carrying in. He deposited it on the table in front of them with a flourish.
“What’s this?” she asked.
Instead of answering, he disappeared again to the corner of the hold, quickly returning with a large plate of ration sticks and reconstituted Bilbringi pies.
«A feast,» he announced. «I made a sauce to go with the rations. It will make us feel like our feet are rooted to the ground again.» He passed out bowls and utensils, and the three of them eagerly dug in.
Leia dipped a spoon into her sauce-covered Bilbringi pie and lifted it for a taste. Immediately, she closed her eyes, savoring the rich, spicy flavor. “How in the galaxy did you manage this, Chewie?” she asked.
Han cut in between bites. “Oh, he always keeps a bunch of spices and stuff around, just in case.”
«One never knows when they’ll be stuck onboard for three weeks,» explained Chewie. «It’s good to—» here he made a series of sounds Leia wasn’t familiar with, and she looked at Han inquisitively.
“He means it’s nice to have something special to break up the routine.”
“I’ll say,” she replied, taking another bite. It wasn’t just the weeks on the ship; it was the endless cold rations on Hoth, too. When had she last had a proper meal? Ord Mantell, maybe? “Honestly, Chewie,” she said, “this is as good as any royal feast I can remember.”
After their stomachs were suitably stuffed—Leia had only found two Wookiee hairs in her bowl, and the last bite was every bit as mouthwateringly delicious as the first—Han turned on some music and conjured up a sabacc deck and a handful of Corellian ales. Soon the hold rang with laughter. Leia had generally been too caught up in her duties to play the game much, but Han and Chewie, while fiercely competitive towards each other, were rather generous teachers. Soon she was holding her own—which for now, she surmised, meant not losing every hand. She suspected Han was going easy on them.
After a long time the music quieted, the album having played through twice already.
“And… Pure Sabacc.” Han layed out his hand triumphantly. Chewie bellowed, waving his arms in frustration. Leia laid out her cards in defeat—she’d had a good hand this round, but at twenty-one points, it wasn’t nearly enough. She briefly thanked the old gods that they weren’t playing for a sabacc pot; otherwise she might have just lost… a lot.
“You’re watching a master at work,” Han crowed, tipping back his second Corellian ale, and Leia and Chewie both rolled their eyes.
She took a small sip of her own drink. “Where did you learn to play sabacc, Han?”
“Oh… around.” He waved dismissively.
«Han was already a master of it when we met, and he was barely more than a cub in human years, then.»
“So… you learned it on Corellia?”
Han shrugged. “We may have been scrumrats, but we were still kids. It was one of the few ways we had fun.”
They sat in silence for a moment.
“Do you ever miss your home planet?” Leia asked.
“No,” Han said firmly. There was no hesitation in his voice.
Leia nodded. She leaned forward, resting her chin in her hand, and thought for a moment. She needed to tread this conversation carefully—considering the lightheartedness of the evening and the alcohol Han had consumed, she suspected he might be a little more open than usual to talking, but she still didn’t want to push too hard. “When you finally escaped… how did it feel? Did you feel free, or was it bittersweet?”
Han and Chewie exchanged a brief look. Then Han leaned back in the seat, raking his fingers through his hair. “Uh,” he muttered. “It’s… complicated.”
She nodded, giving him space to go on if he wanted to. After another mouthful of his ale, he did.
“So, uh, there was this girl.”
Leia stiffened a little, but she just as quickly relaxed again. Of course there was a girl, she told herself. There’d been multiple girls; she was already well aware of that. Don’t be silly; listen. She didn’t want to miss out on this part of his story just because of some childish sort of jealousy.
“We tried to escape together,” he continued. “But… I made it; she didn’t. They grabbed her right as we went through the gate at the spaceport, and I couldn’t do a damn thing.” He shrugged. “I spent the next three years in the Imperial Navy planning out how I was gonna buy my own ship and go back to Corellia. To find her. So yeah, as much as I hated Corellia, you wouldn’t’ve believed it back then.”
“Did you do it? Did you go back and find her?”
He took another sip. “Didn’t have to. Turns out, she was sold right after I left—to Crimson Dawn.”
Leia’s breath caught in her throat.
“She was owned by one of the syndicate’s head honchos,” Han continued, “and somehow she managed to work her way up to being his lieutenant. We ran into each other on my first job after the Empire. Chewie n’ I were with a crew doing a job for Crimson Dawn, and she came with us to Kessel.” He face lit up in a grin. “The trip where I made the run—”
“In less than twelve parsecs. We know,” Leia said, rolling her eyes. “So what happened to her? Did she ever get free?”
“She… no, she didn’t. At least I don’t think so. I, uh, thought, at the end, that we had won, and that she was gonna come away with me and Chewie. She killed the guy who owned her. But… I guess she had other ideas.”
Leia frowned, feeling the glimmer of deep pain in Han’s past. “She took his place,” she said, the realization coming as she said the words. She wondered if this girl was still alive… and if she was still at the head of the notorious cartel.
“Yeah, I guess so.”
“I’m sorry.”
He shook his head. “Eh, it was a long time ago. I was a kid, naïve. She’d always been like that; a survivor, a climber. In it for herself, no matter what—or who—was in her way.” His words, even after all these years, sounded bitter.
Leia raised an eyebrow. “Sounds like somebody I once thought I knew.”
Han ignored her comment. “It wouldn’t’ve worked out.”
«Hmm. It wouldn’t have,» Chewie agreed. «But Han was sad for a long time.»
“Thanks, fuzzball,” he retorted. “It’s not like nobody ever broke your heart.”
Chewie chuckled. «There was a young Wookiee before Malla,» he explained, turning to Leia. «I was also sad for a long time when we ended the hunt.» He paused. «These things are hard. But when you meet the right person, the sadness of the past seems very small next to the happiness you’ve found.»
With that, Chewbacca stretched and rose from the dejarik table. «I’m going to leave you two to continue your mating ritual. Just stay away from the number three hold.»
Leia blushed. “Chewie, it’s not—we’re not—”
The Wookiee only laughed, eyes twinkling. «Goodnight, cubs.»
The main hold was quiet for a little while in Chewie’s absence. Then, Han scooted closer to Leia on the bench, putting an arm around her and shifting his ale to his other hand. He massaged her shoulder, looking thoughtful.
“You know,” he said, “I’ve had a lot of disappointments. A lot of heartache.” He took another sip. “Everyone I’ve ever cared for has either abandoned or betrayed me, the whole lot of ‘em.” He made a scornful sound. “Usually both. And I never… I never took it easy.” He glanced at her. “I’ve had to learn to face the galaxy on my own. Well, not completely—I’ve got Chewie, but you know what I mean. I’ve had to learn not to trust people, not to commit to anything.” He swallowed, looking into her eyes. “I… Leia… I want that to be different, with you.”
Leia opened her mouth to respond, then she closed it again. She wasn’t sure what to say. His words had stirred something deep within her, and her mind was still working through what all it meant. He wants to commit, she thought. He wants a life together. How impossible that would have sounded, once. Still sounded, if she were honest. Was it? All she knew was that she desperately wanted it, too.
“I love you,” he murmured again, and bent down for a lingering kiss. They parted, and she laid her head on his shoulder, nestling into him, wishing she had more to give. Several minutes passed in silence.
And then, finally, she knew what to say, what to do.
She took a deep breath. “On Alderaan,” she began, “women’s hair is regarded as sacred, in a way. There’s all sorts of meaning behind how we wear it.” She paused. “And… there’s a lot of meaning behind who gets to take it down. It’s… incredibly intimate.” She sat up, trembling. Slowly, she drew a pin out of her hair and laid it in his hand. His eyes widened.
She hoped he would understand. It wasn’t a spoken “I love you,” nor was it a lustful consummation. But it was a sign, and, she hoped, a promise of things to come. A powerful act, words without words. Would he hear them? She rotated on the bench, presenting him with the coil of braids that were wrapped around the back of her head.
Slowly, he reached out and touched them. Then he kissed the nape of her neck, making the tiny hairs there stand on end. She let out a shaky breath. He began to search, his fingers wandering over the braids. He pulled out one pin, then another. Every time he removed one, he planted another kiss—this one on her shoulder, that one on her cheek, another one on her neck again.
Finally, the last pin was out and her hair was unraveled. She felt it spilling like a waterfall over her shoulders and back. From behind her, Han made a quiet, agonized sort of sound. She’d never worn her hair down around him before. With reverent care, he dug his fingers into her loose tresses, slowly running through them, gently smoothing out the tangles. “Leia,” he murmured, voice cracking. “It’s… kriff, you’re so beautiful.” He buried his head in it, kissed it.
Once again, Leia didn’t know what to say. A lump had formed in her throat; it seemed to come from a bubble of joy inside her that was growing larger and larger by the second. There were no words for this. She simply turned around to face him, drew his forehead to hers, and then kissed him again, long and deep, while his hands wove through her hair.

Cat Diarrhea
Cat Diarrhea
Cat diarrhea / kitten diarrhea
Cat Diarrhea / kitten diarrhea Definitions:  It may be a sign of several different disorders—but if it only happens once or twice, it doesn’t have to be a cause for concern.
The intestinal upset may just be a reaction to something that will pass out of the cat’s system in 24 hours. However, diarrhea that lasts longer than a day can dehydrate a cat, and if not corrected it can lead to shock.
Cat Diarrhea / kitten diarrhea is the passage of abnormally soft and/or frequent stools. This sign is often associated with vomiting, but may also occur by itself. When present, diarrhea often causes cats to fail to use their litter pans.
Diarrhea usually doesn’t last long or indicate anything more than a mildly upset digestive system. However, if it persists for more than 2 days, is accompanied by fever or vomiting, or contains blood, take your cat to the vet immediately. If possible, take a stool sample along for analysis.
What To Do About Mild Diarrhea
Any diarrhea that doesn’t fit the warning signs on the paragraph below (Diarrhea Requiring a Vet Visitn) will probably pass on its own in a day or two.
Your vet may want to give you a mild product for feline digestive upset, but do not even think of using human over-the-counter products. The newest Kaopectate formula and any diarrhea product with bismuth subsalicylate (such as Pepto-Bismol) can be poisonous to a cat.
Most vets will suggest withholding food for 24 hours so the digestive tract can empty out and calm down. A wonderful powder called Bio-Sponge from Platinum Performance (800-553-2400) works wonders. If your cat has any of the symptoms on the paragraph below (Diarrhea Requiring a Vet Visitn), you should call the vet and see if he wants to see her right away.
Diarrhea Requiring a Vet Visited
It continues more than one day.
It is bloody or contains mucus.
It is black or any color other than brown.
It is accompanied by fever, vomiting or lethargy.
It has a foul odor.
Cat Diarrhea Causes
Diarrhea has many causes; the most common are related to diet. Diets containing cows’ milk often cause diarrhea.
Spicy table scraps and decomposed food are other common offenders, but any food, including commonly fed commercial diets, can cause diarrhea in certain cats.
Viruses, bacteria, and intestinal parasites (e.g., worms, coccidia) may infect the bowel and cause diarrhea. This occurs most often in kittens.
Diarrhea can also be caused by diseases of the liver and/or pancreas, bowel obstruction, cancer, and metabolic problems.
Even psychological stress gives some cats diarrhea. Trips to the veterinary hospital or the addition of a new cat to the household may result in stress-induced diarrhea, but this type usually subsides quickly without any treatment being required.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is also frequently accompanied by diarrhea.
Some toxic substances that can cause cat diarrhea / kitten diarrhea include
Gasoline, kerosene, oil, and coal tar derivatives
Cleaning fluid and refrigerants
Insecticides, bleaches, toilet bowl cleaner inserts
Wild and ornamental plants, mushrooms
Building materials (cement, lime, paints, caulks)

Symptoms for Cat Diarrhea / kitten diarrhea
Milled cat diarrhea may involve wet, loose stools only were bad diarrhea may involve the likes of:
A fever
 Dehydration
Vomiting
Diarrhea containing blood
No appetite
Lethargy
Pains in the abdomen
Diagnosing Cat / kitten diarrhea
To determine the cause of your cats diarrhea a trip to the vets will be necessary as test will need to be taken such as:
A physical examination
A stool sample taken for tests
An x-ray on the gastrointestinal track If there are more severe symptoms present then test such as blood testing and stool cultures for leukaemia and immunodeficiency viruses are done and there is a possibility of a biopsy of the intestinal track.
Characteristics of Diarrhea helps in diagnosis the cause of diarrhea:
  kitten diarrhea
kitten Diarrhea is one of the hardest things for a kitten foster mom to deal with. So many things can cause diarrhea, and a kitten dehydrates so quickly!
Add to that what a mess it makes (especially if you have more than one bottle baby) and you’ve got a major headache.
The sooner you get your kitten to the vet and find out what’s going on, the less it costs and the more likely she is to survive.
Kitten Diarrhea can result from:
major diseases like feline leukemia
feline distemper, and feline infectious peritonitis
Food changes, overfeeding, or a formula that doesn’t agree with the kitten can cause kitten diarrhea as well.
But more often than not, parasite infestations and a lack of beneficial intestinal bacteria cause the runs. The frustrating thing is that often they don’t show up when the vet’s looking at the poop under the microscope.
When this happens, I ask the vet to go ahead and treat for coccidia. This ailment is very common among kittens and most of my bottle babies have it.
Cat diarrhea / kitten diarrhea treatment
In most cases, feeding your cat a bland diet for a few days will clear up diarrhea and prevent dehydration.
Some combination of plain yogurt, cottage cheese, boiled chicken, unsalted chicken broth, bread soaked in broth, or boiled rice works well, although you might have to experiment to find a combination your cat will eat.
Some people also use strained, unseasoned baby food. Withholding food for a day or two before starting the bland diet might help. Do not withhold water!
Dehydration can kill a kitten in a matter of hours. If your kitten has diarrhea or vomits repeatedly, seek veterinary help immediately.
Your veterinarian might prescribe medication or recommend an over-the-counter (OTC) treatment. Don’t give your cat any human medication without first consulting your vet. Some contain aspirin or other ingredients that can harm your cat.
Cat diarrhea / kitten diarrhea treatment tips
The first step of Cat diarrhea treatment is to identify and remove the underlying cause. For example:
1- If a cat has a lactase enzyme deficiency (lactose intolerance), dairy products can be removed from the diet without causing a nutrient deficiency because they are not a necessary part of an adult cat’s diet.
2- Diarrhea caused by overeating (characterized by several large, bulky, unformed stools) is controlled by cutting back the overall food intake and feeding the cat three small meals instead of one large meal a day.
Unfamiliar water can cause diarrhea. Give the cat water brought from home or bottled water when you are traveling.
3- When irritating or toxic substances have been ingested, identify the agent because specific antidotes may be required.
4- Diarrhea caused by food allergy or intolerance is treated by placing the cat on a homemade or commercial hypoallergenic diet prescribed by your veterinarian for about eight weeks.
If the diarrhea disappears, the cat can remain on this diet, or various foods can be added one by one until the offending food allergen is detected by a return of symptoms. This food substance is then eliminated from the diet.
5- Food intolerance is a non-immune-mediated cause of diarrhea and vomiting. This could be a response to a dietary protein, a preservative, a flavoring, or anything else in the cat’s diet. Again, removing the offending substance will stop the problem.
Prescription diets for this problem include Eukanuba Response LB Feline, Royal Canin Hypoal- lergenic HP Feline, Royal Canin Neutral Formula Feline, Royal Canin’s Limited Ingre- dients with duck, lamb, rabbit, or venison as the meat protein, Science Diet Feline d/d with duck, rabbit, or venison as the meat protein, and Science Diet z/d ULTRA Allergen Free Feline.
6- Diarrhea that persists for more than 24 hours is potentially serious. Consult your veterinarian without delay. Always remember to bring a sample of the diarrhea so that it can be examined for parasites and bacteria.
A cat dehydrates quickly when fluid losses go unchecked, and this can lead to shock and collapse.
Other indications to consult your veterinarian include bloody diarrhea and diarrhea accompanied by vomiting, fever, and signs of toxicity.
The cause of chronic diarrhea is difficult to diagnose and requires laboratory analysis and close professional monitoring.
7- Diarrhea of short duration without excessive fluid loss can be treated at home.
Withhold all food for 24 hours. Periodically give him very small amounts of water or ice cubes to lick.
As the cat begins to recover, introduce food gradually, feeding three to our small meals a day.
Begin with a diet high in meat protein. Strained meat baby food, the diets recommended earlier for food allergy and intolerance, and Hill’s Prescription Diet Feline i/d are good examples.
Avoid high-carbohydrate foods and dry cat foods. Cats have a low tolerance for carbohydrates and high-carb diets are likely to prolong the diarrhea. Gradually return to the usual food when the cat has fully recovered.
8- Loperamide (Imodium) may be used upon the advice of your veterinarian. However, if an infectious cause is suspected, loperamide might be contraindicated because it will keep the infectious organism in the bowel longer by slowing the body’s efforts to expel it.
Loperamide is also somewhat controversial, as it may cause excitement in some cats. Avoid any diarrhea medicines that contain salicylates.
Homemade Cat Diarrhea Remedies
Cat food for diarrhea or home remedies are used for cat diarrhea treatment.
1. Recipe 1 for cat diarrhea treatment:
1 cup boiled turkey/chicken mince or chicken breast, divided into bite-sized pieces
1-2 glass water or low salt chicken broth
Instructions:
Divide breasts of chicken into bite-sized pieces, and put a small amount of water or the chicken broth to the skillet and simmer until cooked.
You should drain most of the soup (you can leave a small amount), let it to cool slightly before providing it to your kitty.
2. Recipe 2 for cat diarrhea treatment:
Pumpkin is full of soluble fiber that could aid to soothe and coat the GI tract. Moreover, it postpone gastric emptying, reversing the effects of greater periastalis (gastrointestinal emptying) which happens in cat diarrhea.
It’s with high concentration of the potassium, and potassium can be a frequent electrolyte lost during diarrhea and can be well tolerated by cats.
Instructions:
2 glass fresh pumpkin divided into cubes
1-2 glass water or low salt chicken broth
Add these components to a pan and cook until soft.
Then take away the pan from stove, drain the soup and use a potato masher to mash the pumpkin.
let it to cool slightly before providing it to your kitty.
3. Probiotics
While giving milk into a kitty is usually not recommended, particularly your cat with diarrhea, yoghurt is olnly the exclusion. A little amount from yoghurt may also be advantageous to some cats surfer from diarrhea and be used for cat diarrhea treatment.
Yoghurt includes a kind of bacteria called Lactobacillus. These germs typically live in the gut, helping with the digestion of meals.
On occasion the natural flora of the intestine is thrown out of equilibrium (such as if your furry friend is on a course of antibiotics), and this may result in opportunistic and pathogenic strains of bacteria to take hold.
4. Slippery elm:
This herbal treatment has lots of medical advantages and uses, such as cat diarrhea treatment. It comprises a mucilige (a gelatinous substance), which soothes and coats the gut and intestines in addition to raising mucus secretion that shields the gastric tract.
Put 1/2 teaspoon from Slippery elm to your kitty’s meal for every 2 kg (10 lbs) bodyweight.

The Lime Green Table - Part 3
Just as an aside - As i was previewing this, I realized that it was actually a continuation from Part 1 and I never really finished it. I took the time and filled out the dialogue and updated some things to make it flow - So, Part 2 is, actually, a pretty distant chapter for Alana and Todd but I do hope you enjoy it still.
[Scene – both Todd and Alana are in a car. Alana’s driving.]
Alana: You know, Todd, sometimes you have to talk to me before you make choices for ‘us’.
Todd: Is this about the table? I'm sorry… I didn’t know it was from your mom.
Alana: It’s not just that, I’m talking on the whole- the big picture. You can’t just up and do something and expect me to be cool with it all the time.
Todd: Okay, I won’t.
Alana: We are a couple Todd, we’re supposed to be a team… Do you get where I’m coming from?
Todd: Yeah I do. I hear you perfectly. Where are we headed?
Alana: I dunno. I was thinking Stampers, we haven’t been there in like a week and I’m dying for some of that Shrimp and Mushroom thing.
Todd: [Pointing out a construction job] do you see that?
Alana: The jobsite? Yeah, what about it?
Todd: Well, when I drove past it earlier, I stopped by out of curiosity to find out what was going up.
Alana: And what did they say?
Todd: [Laughs] get this, they’re building another bar-slash-nightspot.
Alana: [Laughing along] seriously? Do you think our apartment’s bugged?
Todd: That’s the same thing I thought. We just talked about it last night, right?
Alana: Yeah… We have to check those pillows.
Todd: Hmm.
[They pull up at Stampers, leave the car and enter the diner]
Hostess: Good Day, Welcome to Stampers, are you guys dining in?
Both: Yes.
Hostess: Wonderful! Is this everyone in your party?
Todd: Yeah, just us two.
Hostess: Okay, a table for two coming right up.
[Hostess walks off]
Alana: Is it just me, or is she oddly perky?
Todd: She’s probably new. I know I don’t recognize her.
Alana: Probably… Makes me feel a bit ‘twilight zone-y’ though.
Todd: Yeah.
[Hostess comes back]
Hostess: Hey, sorry, we have a bit of a crowd tonight, would you guys mind waiting a few minutes while a table gets prepped?
Alana: [Slightly surprised] Um, sure – we can wait [she looks at Todd for agreement]
Todd: Oh, yeah, that’s fine.
Hostess: Okay, great, I do apologize – I know you guys are regulars, please [she motions to the Seating area]
[Alana and Todd both sit down]
Todd: Weird, what day is it?
Alana: Oh, crap… it’s Thursday
Both: “The Thursday Cliché”
Alana: Dammit, how did we miss that? Anyway, how did things go today with the pitches?
Todd: [Shifts in his seat] Uh… good? Yeah, good, I think. I had a Skype call with a blog that does a lot in the indie scene and I have to write a few mock articles for one that does, like, socio-political stuff, you know?
Alana: Uh, li-
Todd: A bit like The New Yorker, not in scale though, but in, like, how they do their think-pieces
Alana: Oh, well, that sounds cool. Would be a change of pace though, right?
Todd: Yeah, well, yeah – I’m looking forward to it though, would give me a sort of ki-
[Hostess unknowingly interrupts]
Hostess: Okay guys, I found a spot for you right over here, if you’d follow me please.
Todd: Oh, sweet! Thanks
[They follow; Alana takes note of the crowd. They stop at a table.]
Hostess: Is this table okay for you guys?
Todd: Yes, It’s great, Thank you.
Alana: Yes, Thank you.
Hostess: You’re welcome. Thank you for being patient with us, your waiter will be with you shortly.
[Hostess leaves menus and walks off, Alana and Todd sit down]
Todd: Oh, yeah… She has to be new, but she recognized us as regulars? Weird.
Alana: Mm. Get a load of this crowd, damn lazy families…
Todd: [Chuckles] They are pretty packed, must be getting a lot of playdate buzz.
Alana: I guess.
Todd: How was your day?
Alana: It was okay, we locked down a new…
[Waitress enters scene, stops at table and pulls out order pad]
Waitress: Good evening. Are you guys ready to order or, would you like some drinks?
Alana: Hi, sure. I’ll be having the shrimp and mushroom scampi with a Sprite soda.
Waitress: [Writes order down on pad] and for you?
Todd: I think I’ll just go with a 7-Up.
Alana: What? Did you eat something earlier?
Todd: No, not much of an appetite I guess.
Alana: You guess? Please order something, I don’t want to eat by myself.
Waitress: I can come back if you’re not ready…
Todd: No, that’s okay. I’ll, um… [scans the menu] I’ll get the, uh… chipotle lasagna and a 7-Up.
Waitress: No problem, [writes order down] your food should be ready in a short while.
[Waitress exits scene]
Alana: Are you okay?
Todd: Yeah… Yeah, I’m fine. You were saying about work?
Alana: Um, Yeah, there’s this new corporate law firm going up and we got the contract for it.
Todd: The whole thing? Rugs and all?
Alana: Rugs and all.
Todd: That’s good! I mean, right?
Alana: But here’s the real good news, guess who they put in charge of the deal?
[They share a reassuring glance]
Todd: Get out of here! You?
Alana: Mm-hmm!
Todd: Babe, that’s great, that’s… wow.
Alana: I know. I got the go-ahead today.
[Waitress brings drinks]
Waitress: Here you go, that’s one 7-Up and one Sprite. Your food will be ready shortly.
Both: Thank you.
[Waitress leaves]
Todd: They finally realized what you can do, huh?
Alana: Yeah, it’s about damn time. So, other than the potential leads, anything else happened today?
Todd: Well, Matt called. He thinks it’s a good idea that we start the band up again.
Alana: Really- Well, what did you tell him?
Todd: Well, we did a three-way with Owen and he’s up for it, although Matt said we’d have to substitute Troy with some guy named Pete.
Alana: I see, so you lost your job to get into a three-way with Matt and Owen… that must’ve been fun.
Todd: Oh, ha, ha-ha…
Alana: Just playing. Do you know this Pete guy?
Todd: Never heard of him but Matt said he heard him play at some party. Says he’s great on the bass.
Alana: That’s cool, I guess. At least it’ll get you out of the house again.
Todd: I thought the same.
Alana: Are you gonna re-hash those songs you wrote or are you gonna write some new ones?
Todd: Nothing’s set in stone yet, was thinking that I’d do both.
[Waitress comes with food]
Waitress: Here are your orders, [places the plates down] is there anything else I can get for you?
Alana: We’re, [confirming glance with Todd] yeah, we’re good, thanks.
Waitress: No problem, enjoy your meals.
[Waitress leaves, they both start on their meals]
Todd: Is that any good?
Alana: Yeah, maybe because I’m really hungry. How’s yours?
Todd: Feels like they took away from the spicy-ness
Alana: Well, just add some pepper.
Todd: No, I’m cool, I always over-shake with those things.
Alana: It probably doesn’t show because I’m tired but, I’m kinda stoked about starting on this new this firm.
Todd: I can imagine. Where is it, uptown?
Alana: No, it’s west downtown, near the Bradley Tower.
Todd: Whoa, that’s a long drive from Midleave.
Alana: Yeah, it’ll be worth it though… great way to see if this is what I really want.
Todd: Definitely. Speaking of what you really want though, there’s a new episode of Bristles on tonight, we can grab some popcorn on the way back.
Alana: [Perks up] Oh? Oh, I don’t know – I’m pretty beat from today plus I have to get out pretty early in th- [Her phone dings and she checks it, gets annoyed] ugh!
Todd: [Noticing the annoyance on her face] What’s that?
Alana: [Sighs] Mum, ‘asked’ me earlier to help her out with some Tupperware party she wants to do and… she just added me to a group chat... dammit...
Todd: [Chuckles] I swear she’s your biggest troll.
Alana: For sure. I might report the group as spam.
Todd: [Laughs] You can’t…
Alana: I sure can! [Fiddles with the phone for a bit] You’re right… I just muted the chat – I really hate that people can do that now.
Todd: What? Mute chats? Seems to be perfect for you.
Alana: No… I mean just be able to add you to groups in the first place, without you having the option, you know?
Todd: Yeah, I get that. Matt just started a group too for the new band… It’s crazy how far phones have come since the last time we played.
Alana: What’s it been? Like, 2? 3 years?
Todd: I think more like 3, it’s crazy.
Alana: Yeah, I’d say.
[They both finish their meals; Alana signals the waitress]
Alana: Did you notice that she didn’t come to check on us after we got our food?
Todd: I didn’t, actually… at least, not until you just mentioned it.
Alana: Weird… this is exactly what I was talking about – we’ve been Twilight Zoned.
Todd: You might be right, but it’s probably because we’re regu-
[Waitress approaches with the cheque holder]
Waitress: How was everything guys? Good? Sorry, I couldn’t check in on ya, we’re a bit short tonight, with a full house.
[Waitress proceeds to clear the table]
Alana: Oh, no worries.
Todd: Yeah, no worries…
Alana: I think we were both so hungry that we didn’t even notice [Chuckles]
Waitress: Oh, great! I’ll leave this with you then [places the cheque holder in the middle of the table]
[Waitress leaves]
Todd: Did you see that?
Alana: See what?
Todd: She put the book in the middle of the table.
Alana: [Notices] Huh, that’s cool, I guess
Todd: Yeah, I always wondered why people just went with assumptions to who’d be paying.
Alana: It’s a brave new world, babe… but, you are paying though, right?
Todd: [Chuckles] Yeah, I guess… [picks up the holder and sorts out the bill]
Alana: [Chuckles and mockingly sings, ‘This is a man’s world!’]
Todd: Yeah-yeah, are you ready? [gets up from the table]
Alana: Yeah, we can head out. [gets up and waves at the waitress]
[The waitress waves back, knowingly]
[They begin to leave the restaurant and pass by the hostess]
Hostess: Thank you for dining with us tonight, guys, have a great night!
Alana: Thanks, you too.
Todd: Yeah, thanks, good night.
[They leave and fade into the parking lot]

I recently went to Miami for a work-related event in January, and being a temporary winter migrant from the NYC area, a trip from the cold was a much-needed respite. When discussing the trip with a close friend, she invited herself to join me. Frankly, it did not take much arm twisting!  So, I decided to add a few extra days onto my trip. (Don’t tell me you wouldn’t do the same!) I forewarned her that the trip would be all about good food and specialty cocktails, as I have a mild obsession with both. Luckily, she was on board. I also mentioned we were going to stay in Downtown Miami (aka Brickell) instead of South Beach, as South Beach has become the Times Square of Miami. It has too many tourists, no parking and overpriced restaurants serving mediocre food. However, if you’re looking for the beach, flavored margaritas on Ocean Drive, and great people watching, then by all means do the South Beach thing. I had been to South Beach many times, but truly fell in love with Brickell a year ago because of the upscale restaurants, beautiful rooftop bars and gorgeous people who take fashion to a whole new level. In any case, whether you decide to stay in South Beach, Wynwood, Downtown Miami, North Miami, or other, give one of these places a visit. You won’t be disappointed!
1.       Bazaar Mar by José Andrés
The best way to describe Bazaar Mar, is that it is unlike any restaurant you have ever visited. Seriously-it’s life changing. I’ll prove it. I went once and was so blown away, I almost flew down to Miami multiple times after that just to eat here. However, I don’t exactly bathe in $100 bills, so I waited about 9 months until I had a good work-related reason to visit Miami again and made a reservation. This time around I dragged my two girlfriends, who can’t tell the difference between cheddar cheese and American cheese. They generally just don’t understand my obsession with good food, and presentations; now they are totally hooked.  The Miami police should put this place on the list of things which can cause citizens to start drug addictions, I would take an IV of the food here in a heartbeat! My friends jaws dropped after every dish we ate, and you guessed it, they’re now food lovers like me. I love bringing people over to the other (foodie) side! They agreed that they too would fly down to Miami just to eat here. (If only money grew on trees!) Anyway, the place itself is amazing. It has a fairy tale quality with white dollhouse-like wooden seats and white couches at every table. Sea based characters like mermaids are painted in blue on the white tiled walls and on the ceiling, there are also giant fish heads protruding from the walls. It’s quite the experience!
I can only speak about the dishes I have tried already, but everything was spectacular. Some menu highlights include, Maine Lobster Croquetas: these bad boys just melt warm lobster goodness in your mouth, and the saffron aioli sauce is a perfect complement. The first time I ordered them they came tucked inside a plastic sneaker “dish”. (The entire place is Instagram worthy!) Our next dish, the California ‘funnel cake’ was one of the most unique dishes ever eaten. The dish was served on a metal object resembling an eight-legged octopus, and the salty, spicy, and creamy flavor combination of seaweed, avocado, blue crab, tobiko, spicy mayo and cucumber was scrumptious. We also went with the Cobia “Rosa” Ceviche. The description on the website reads, “rose” of leche de tigre, nasturtium leaf, sweet potato, corn nuts. Let’s put that in laymen’s terms…. basically, they give you a ‘rose’ on a plate which is comprised of raw fish in the middle surrounded be vegetables on the outside and nuts on top. Then they tell you to smash the rose down, and compile the ingredients together into your mouth. It’s an excellent combination of sea meets land with salty, fishy, and crunchy flavors. The presentation is also very ‘social media-esque’. On our first visit, we finished our dinner with the key lime pie dessert, which had sweet, key lime goodness with a graham cracker on top designed to look like a sandcastle. Every dish was created meticulously and creatively.
The second time I came here and turned my friends into food enthusiasts, we ordered the Maine Lobster Croquetas as a starter, then the Neptune’s Pillow appetizer. This dish must have been a customer favorite as they were coming out of the kitchen like hotcakes. It’s total raw tuna overload; spicy tuna inside a dough like pastry with sliced tuna on top and spicy mayo underneath. It was to die for! We also split the Ora King Salmon dish and the octopus dishes. The Ora King salmon was lightly cooked on the inside, with a thin crust, and salmon roe on the side. The fish practically melted in my mouth. The octopus dish was so unique and colorful! It came with one large tentacle accompanied by peanuts on the side, with squid ink sauce and a lemon gremolata. The last time I frequented the restaurant the chef brought us the Japanese peaches on the house., Since they were outstanding, we wanted an encore on this visit. The dish comes with small peaches, burrata, hazelnut praline, croutons, and nuts. One spoonful and the sweet, salty, creamy flavor combination and you’re completely swept off your feet. This restaurant is also amazing for people watching. Everyone is gorgeous here and dressed like they just came off a runway someplace like Paris. I think I’ve just about sold you, huh?
2.       Zuma
It’s no wonder Zuma has locations all around the world; the sushi here is seriously top notch. The restaurant was founded by chef Rainer Becker, who was inspired by informal izakaya-style Japanese dining in which dishes are brought to the table throughout the meal. The ambiance is upscale, trendy, and slightly pretentious with beautiful views of the intra-coastal waterway and many lavish yachts parked right outside. The service here was incredible, as was the food. In true Brickell style, the people dining here put Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively to shame. Everyone was beautiful and very well dressed. I have had the opportunity to dined outside before, as well as inside. The outside area is much more relaxing, as wooden tables and wicker chairs align the area beside the water. The inside is the more upscale choice. It is replete with cushioned chairs, overlooking the open kitchen to one side and the wall to ceiling windows on the opposite side of the room. On my last visit here, we started off with the crispy fried squid which had a nice salt, pepper and lime taste to it, and the shrimp and black cod dumplings which were nicely pan fried, slightly salty, and incredible. As far as sushi goes, we opted to try the spicy tuna roll with green chili sauce and tobiko, the salmon roll and the tuna roll with Osetra caviar on top. How can you go wrong with sushi and caviar? That’s just not possible!
3.       La Mar at the Mandarin Oriental
The Mandarin Oriental in Miami is one of the most spectacular hotels I have ever visited. Immediately upon entering the hotel, you are greeted with the aroma of glorious floral notes, including jasmine and juniper. The smell is so magnificent and inviting, you’ll find yourself wanting to book a reservation at the spa straight away. Every time I have been here, the staff has warmly, and professionally greeted me and made me feel very special. The lobby bar presents an excellent happy hour, which is worth checking out. However, the Peruvian restaurant, La Mar is really the highlight of this MO. The ambiance is fun, trendy, colorful and sexy, while also being luxurious and upscale. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating overlooking the intra-coastal waterway. Everything I ate here was amazing! I suggest their express lunch for $25 deal, which is quite generous. We, however, being total ‘gavones’, (Italian for slobs) decided to go a la carte and ordered a variety of appetizers, salads, and ceviche dishes. The hummus salad (pictured below) was one of my favorite dishes, and yet was nothing like we expected. A mix of veggies, shrimp and pita chips in a Greek yogurt vinaigrette. It was crispy, light and refreshing. Last time we ate here, the waiter said Dan Barber of Blue Hill had been there a week prior. (I absolutely love him, he’s revolutionary- when it comes to the farm to table movement)….but I digress. Of course, when we were here we had to have a few Pisco Sours. They have a few different flavors and each one is better than the last! I also highly recommend ordering dessert, whether you have a sweet tooth or not. We tried “la piña, el coco y el manjar”, which is two delectable scoops of coconut ice cream with pineapple chips, foam, and ginger jelly. It’s such an interesting flavor combination and in summary was outstanding! We had a tough time not ordering three of these!
4.       Ceviche105
Ceviche105 is a nine-year award winning gastronomic Peruvian restaurant with some of the best ceviche I have ever had. It’s located right in the business district of downtown. I recommend you Uber it as parking is terrible. Anyway, we decided to sit in the outdoor area, which was comfortable and cozy, compared to the upscale interior of the restaurant. The menu was extensive and slightly intimidating I will admit. There were lots of sea based options to choose from as well as unique Peruvian dishes! We started off with the famous potato based appetizer, Causa de Camarones con Palta, which was quite the flavor combination. I never had anything like it. It’s mashed up potatoes with shrimp, avocado and red peppers covered in a delicious yellow sauce made of Andean cream and other ingredients. After that we split the ceviche trio dish: Tetra de Ceviches, a platter of three popular fish ceviche dishes with sauces that included: virgin cream, yellow pepper cream, and anconero and rocoto cream. The dish also came with deliciously salty corn kernels, corn, and sweet potato. I have yet to discover a place in NYC that offers ceviche and Peruvian food as good as this. If you know of any, please let me know!
5.       Sugar
Easily one of the best rooftop bars in downtown Miami, Sugar is located at the upscale East hotel. The upstairs rooftop ‘garden’ has a Hawaiian inspired theme with comfortable, brightly colored, cushioned wooden chairs and couches, surrounded by plants and trees on the outskirts of the bar. It has a very cozy treehouse like feel to it. All the seats overlook the tall residential buildings surrounding the hotel and the water to the east. Up a few small stairs and towards the back of the rooftop is the large, ornate, wooden bar complete with gorgeous tribal craftmanship carved into the wood. This rooftop is the place to see and be seen. Most men were dressed in fresh pressed European style suits and/or expensive button downs. The women were wearing heels and their nicest ‘Sunday’ dresses. The last time I visited, I ordered a delicious Lychee martini that made all my vodka/club drinking friends very jealous. They serve Asian style tapas, but sadly I have never eaten here. I have however, eaten at the restaurant Quinto La Huella inside the East hotel and it was fantastic.
This is a great start for food and drinks in downtown. While you’re in Miami, check out these great late-night spots in South Beach for specialty cocktails:
1.       Employees Only
One of my favorite bars in NYC, Employees Only, makes some of the best drinks I have ever had in my entire culinary life. I wrote a guest post blog on five great prohibition bars in NYC here: https://tinyurl.com/y7pxj8n5, Employee Only is a definite favorite! After visiting both Employees Only locations, I can say they are both very different and yet, very much the same. I love the Miami location because of the relaxing outdoor area, and the fact that is a lot less crowded than NYC. I was able to get a fabulous hand-crafted cocktail within 10 minutes! Inside, the layout is like NYC, as they have the bar area and a separate sit-down restaurant area. I highly recommend getting both cocktails and food when you’re here. The ricotta gnocchi and mac and cheese with gruyere and Applewood smoked bacon are some amazing late-night bites worthy of the calories. Last time I was here I noticed that they had hired my favorite bartender from NYC. The guy is fantastic!
2.       Sweet Liberty Drinks and Supply Company
The bouncer at Employees Only suggested we check this place out. It was easy to see why, because from the minute I walked in, I was totally smitten. The place reminds patrons of a speakeasy meets 1990s chill bar/club warehouse, and is open until 5am. Trouble! Exposed pipes hang from the ceiling, along with warehouse style hanging lights and Christmas tree lights. The floor is made from a Costco style concrete, and exposed brick walls align the back of the establishment. The bar itself is massive and has every cordial and liquor you could ever dream of. The cocktail menu is equally expansive and compliments the massive bar selection. I started off with their ‘Basic Bitch’ cocktail which was the perfect combination of fruity meets sparkling. Between the amazing cocktails and the 1990s music in the background, I could have stayed until closing time.
I recently went to Miami for a work-related event in January, and being a temporary winter migrant from the NYC area, a trip from the cold was a much-needed respite. GGS Spotlight: Melissa DiLeonardo
Name: Melissa DiLeonardo Age: 39 Location: Chicago, IL
What does being a Girl Gone Strong mean to you? So much. On the surface, it means I am a woman who loves to lift. Weightlifting has been a game changer in my life. I’ve worked in health and fitness for over ten years, but did not start actually lifting (powerlifting, Olympic lifting) until 2009. It was hard at first and required a lot of patience (it still does), but cultivating and realizing my own physical strength provided me with new levels of physical and emotional confidence. Within that emotional confidence lies the deeper meaning of being a “Girl Gone Strong.”
I am capable; I am independent; I am not perfect, but I am enough. I may fall down, but I get back up.
How long have you been strength training, and how did you get started? I became a group fitness instructor in early 2007 and taught cardio kickboxing classes at several area gyms. Soon I was teaching weight training classes at these facilities to broaden my scope. My students kept asking if I was a personal trainer and telling me how much they wanted to work with me one-on-one. I figured it made sense to become a personal trainer and was certified by the end of the year. A few years later, my husband became interested in CrossFit and asked me to accompany him to a trial class. I expected not to enjoy the trial, but immediately fell in love with the vibe and community. Through CrossFit I started powerlifting and Olympic lifting. I eventually certified as a CF Level 1 Coach and coached for the next two years.
What does your typical workout look like? These days, I work full-time in the corporate well-being field. My office fitness center is not accommodating to barbells, so I keep a 1 pood (~16kg) kettlebell in my office. I rely on swings for quick workouts during busy workdays. I create 15 to 20-minute circuits or AMRAP workouts (as many reps as possible) when I am short on time and use a mixture of loaded and bodyweight exercises. When I’m at the CF gym, I powerlift and then often perform 15 to 20 minutes of conditioning incorporating volume and speed. (I love squats: back squats, front squats, overhead squats. I. Love. Squats.)
Favorite Lift: Overhead Squat
Most memorable PR: It happened in mid-January. I am working on a new back squat PR – aiming for 205 pounds by my 40th birthday in June. Lo and behold, I did a 3-rep max at 185 pounds! Made me happy…and I feel pretty confident I can hit that one rep once I am mentally ready.
Top 5 songs on your training playlist:
Wow, Beck
Roses, The Chainsmokers
F**kin’ Problems, A$AP Rocky
No Problem, Chance the Rapper
Pretty much any hip-hop circa the 1990’s
3 things you must have with you at the gym or in your gym bag:
Graphic print leggings and a racer-back tank top – preferably with a great graphic;
Lifting shoes
Rehband knee wraps
Do you prefer to train alone or with others? Why? Lately, I have to train alone, and it’s OK. It’s kind of Zen. However, I love the energy I get when I work out in a group. I definitely push myself harder when I’m side-by-side with another athlete.
Most embarrassing gym moment: I don’t know. I usually laugh at myself a lot. I often wish I had a highlight reel of my random acts of clumsiness at the gym. When I was pregnant, my boobs got bigger. I had always been relative small in that department, so having new upper body curves took some getting used to. Pretty sure the barbell and my new boobs collided at least a dozen times, when doing cleans. Embarrassing? Maybe. Funny? Definitely. Painful? A little.
Best compliment you’ve received lately: A student thanked me for some coaching advice. She said I was a great teacher.
Most recent compliment you gave someone else: I recently reminded my husband that he is an amazing father to our 14-month-old son.
Favorite meal: Tacos al Pastor and the cheese and mushroom quesadilla from one of our fav Mexican spots…or bhindi masala from one of our fav Indian spots, or spicy tuna rolls from my fav sushi place…ugh, can I just say my favorite meal = food?
Favorite way to treat yourself: Dark beer. A long shower. Peanut butter M & M’s. (Not necessarily in this order.)
Favorite quote: I wish to learn what life has to teach, and not, when I come to die, discover that I have not truly lived. — Henry David Thoreau
Favorite book: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Carson McCullers
What inspires and motivates you? My husband, Dana, and my son, August (Gus)
What do you do? For seven years, I was self-employed as a full-time personal trainer, coach and yoga teacher. Now, I am a wellbeing program manager for a recreational products manufacturing company. I just finished implementing a new company wellbeing program for over ten thousand users throughout the US. Now that the program is live, it’s time to get to work and drive user engagement. I believe in this program and think it can help people make positive changes in their lives. When I am not at the office, I teach a few fitness and yoga classes at some area gyms because I don’t want to give up teaching and coaching completely—it’s too much fun!
What else do you do? A new baby has changed the “what I do for fun” answer, but when I can find the time, I enjoy dancing, reading, hiking, relaxing at the lake or the beach, riding my bike, cooking and savoring a dark beer or specialty cocktail on a relaxed Saturday afternoon. I love to travel with my family and am looking forward to some new destinations this year. Hopefully places that involve either the mountains or the ocean…or both.
Describe a typical day in your life, from waking up to bedtime: I rise at 5:15 a.m. I am still breastfeeding, so I pump before my son wakes up. If it’s a workday, I get ready for work, eat oatmeal, drink coffee and pack my lunch. I am out the door by 7:30 and commute to my office via regional rail. I catch up on email and social media on the train. I am at the office from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Over the noon hour, I either teach a fitness or yoga class or do my own workout. I have a sit-to-stand desk, and I try to move throughout the workday. Back on the train by 4:30 p.m. and work while I commute back to the city. When I get home, I walk the dog and pick up my son from daycare. We eat dinner (thank goodness for the crock pot!), we play, and then it’s baby bath time, followed by baby bedtime. If my husband is not working (he trains clients at night), we hang out. If he is working, I catch up on chores around the house. I aim to be in bed no later than 11 p.m., but try for 10:30 most nights. Baby sleeps through the night 75 percent of the time, which is pretty great. Fortunately, I am only in the office four days a week, so Fridays are a bit more relaxed. I also get to lift heavy at the gym. Weekends are a mix of work, exercise, and rest…and with luck an extra hour of sleep in the morning both days.
Your next training goal: As I mentioned, I am working on a new PR for back squat: 205 pounds by June 28, 2017 – my 40th birthday! I have never set a training goal before, and usually focus on professional and or personal goals in other areas of my life. This year, I wanted a goal that was all about me—not my career, not my family, just me! So far, so good. It’s tricky because I only have access to barbells once or twice a week right now. I am focusing on a Wendler cycle protocol and tempo squats when I have a barbell. On days when I can’t lift heavy with a barbell, I practice high volume kettlebell swings and heavy goblet squats.
What are you most grateful for? My husband, my son, and for living in the diverse and wonderful Chicago neighborhood that is Rogers Park. (The RP community is amazing!)
What life accomplishment are you most proud of? I have many professional accomplishments. However, the birth of my son, August (Gus), is what makes me most proud. I didn’t think I could do it. It was the strongest day of my life.
Which three words that best describe you? Loyal, Grateful, Curious
Tell us about a time when you overcame fear or self-doubt. Throughout my career, I have repeatedly accepted tasks that I was not quite sure how to accomplish. I seem to thrive in these situations as they force me to deal with my fears, learn new skills and figure things out. After my son was born, and much to my surprise, I was diagnosed with postpartum depression and anxiety. When my maternity leave ended and I went back to work, I was a mess. I knew that I needed to keep it together for my family and trusted the coping tools I had been learning in therapy. Within three months after returning to work, I was offered a promotion – my current job. It included greater visibility and responsibility.
I was scared and unsure I could handle it, but, like always, I took the plunge and trusted that I would figure it out. Initially, I kept thinking that I was not smart enough for my new role. When I would get overwhelmed, I relied on the mantra, “Just do the work.” Gradually, after a few small successes, I realized that I was being too hard on myself. That I had every right to own my new position. I am grateful I did not back away from this opportunity. I find my work challenging and rewarding. It gives me purpose and helps me continue to heal. The Lesson: Trust your gut. Tell the negative voices in your head to f— off. Just do the work.
What’s the coolest “side effect” you’ve noticed from strength training? Mental confidence. I know I can take on any challenge presented to me in both my personal and professional life. I feel capable. I also feel “swimsuit ready” 365 days a year, despite having cellulite, a postpartum midsection, and other things society has tried to convince me are “problem areas.”
I am not perfect…no one is. I’m over it. I love my body, what it can do, and all that it has done for me. (If only I had figured this out ten years ago.)
How has lifting weights changed your life? In addition to making me stronger mentally and physically, it has also afforded me many exciting opportunities: working out at trade shows, a brand ambassadorship, an opportunity to travel domestically and internationally as well as presenting at a global fitness conference. Lifting has connected me to some amazing friends and mentors (male and female) as well as the Girls Gone Strong Community. GGS is a constant source of motivation, inspiration, support and camaraderie. Finally, lifting has allowed me to help other women discover their strength. Strength that empowers them in all areas of their lives. THAT. IS. LIFE CHANGING.
When did you start the Moms Gone Strong? Why did you decide to start and what helped you make the decision to start? I started the program when I was approximately 17 weeks pregnant.  I had met Molly at a ReebokONE event years ago, and followed GGS from early on. I assume Molly saw that I was expecting via social media and reached out to me about the pilot program. Around the time she contacted me, I was really struggling.  I felt miserable during my first trimester and was feeling lost about how to move safely while still feeling challenged at the gym. Being “fit” and pregnant was a lot harder than I expected. I jumped at the chance to work with Girls Gone Strong and be a part of a program designed for pregnant women.
What has been your biggest challenge in the Moms Gone Strong program? The biggest challenge for me was acceptance.  It was hard to transition into my pregnant body and its limitations. A year later, I look back and am so proud of myself for sticking to the program and for trusting that it made sense. That said, there were days where I missed my pre-pregnant body and its abilities — days when I feared I would never feel “strong” again. I know now how strong a pregnant woman is, and I am grateful for the commitment I made to the program, because it motivated me to keep going on days when I could barely look at myself in the mirror, much less muster up the energy to work out.
What is your “BIG” goal you’d like to achieve by the end of Moms Gone Strong? The BIG goal was the healthy arrival of my son, Gus — and he was almost nine pounds…so he was a big goal, indeed!
What has been your biggest success in the Moms Gone Strong program? I worked out throughout my entire pregnancy. I was fortunate and did not have any physical setbacks or conditions that prevented this. I worked out the morning of my scheduled induction. (I was 10 days past my due date.) I believe the endurance and stamina that the program helped me maintain throughout my pregnancy allowed me to navigate a scheduled induction, a failed epidural, Pitocin contractions without pain management, back labor, and ultimately look back on the day my son was born as the best (and strongest) day of my life.
What do you like best about the Moms Gone Strong community?
I gained a new friend via the MGS community.  A very good friend who I lean on for advice and support regularly. She became a close confidant while I was treated for postpartum depression and anxiety. She is a person a really admire. So…I guess the thing I like “best” about this community is the shared bond that moms have with one another and the tremendous support provided by that bond.
What is the habit you’re currently working on most? Making time for self-care…I am not good at this. I take small steps…even if it’s taking just a few minutes to close my eyes and breathe or listen to my favorite songs.
How has Moms Gone Strong changed your life?  I know how to help other women navigate a healthy and fit pregnancy.  I now also have an additional support system for the many ups and downs of motherhood.
What would you tell a woman who’s nervous about starting Moms Gone Strong? That there are no gimmicks and no judgements; that the MGS program is designed to make you feel confident physically and mentally and that you will be surrounded by women who are ready to lift you up when you are down.
What do you want to say to women, in general, who might be nervous or hesitant about strength training? There is nothing to lose and so much to gain. Whether your goals are aesthetic or functional, whether you use dumbbells or a barbell, strength training is one of the best things you can do to feel better over time. Find a good community or coach—a place or person who make you feel supported—and be patient with yourself. Strength has no uniform appearance or weight requirements, and knows no age or background. Strength is for all of us, Ladies. You already have more than you realize so get started and don’t give up.

Don’t forget while air tour changed into a luxury enjoyed by way of excited passengers who donned their Sunday high-quality before embarking on a grand journey? Nicely, the ones days positive are over. In case the $4 sodas aren’t obnoxious enough in recent times, one airline has absolutely transcended the boundaries of civility. Has crossed but every other line.
The day gone by’s Chicago-to-Louisville flight was apparently overbooked – and when no person volunteered to be bumped, the airline took things to a whole new degree. Four passengers had been randomly laptop-selected for removal, after which, United lost its mind. It insisted that one passenger– a doctor who defined that he changed into predicted in a Louisville medical institution to see sufferers the subsequent morning– was bumped from the flight. Actually.
In step with close by passengers, police boarded the aircraft, through the unwilling bumped in opposition to an armrest, nearly knocked him out, and then dragged him off the plane. Onlookers gasped and yelled, “oh my God, take a look at what you’re doing to him!” and the draggers just kept dragging. Finally, the dragged doctor definitely re-boarded the aircraft, this time with a bloody face and disoriented demeanor. A medical crew got on board, and worried passengers had been advised to head again to the gate in order that officials should “tidy up” earlier than the aircraft took off.
