Summer heat sizzles when it hits the asphalt. Not a single car can be heard rolling down the street, and no one dares to go out for a late afternoon stroll. In a record heatwave, the city of Indianapolis has unofficially shut down for the day.

Your chest rises and falls with each strained breath, and you throw your arm over your eyes. Faint noises of insects humming and the thrum of ACs compose a melody with the heat’s fizz in the distance. The rickety fan from inside Argyle and Jonathan’s apartment can be heard alongside your boyfriend’s singing with the radio. Even though it would be much cooler inside, you lay on the pile of throw pillows and blankets on the screen-in porch and turn the page to your latest reading endeavor.

Immersed in the story’s world, everything else melts away from you. Summer’s heat hugs your skin like a faint memory. Your body no longer aches from the warped, wooden floorboards that seem to always make it uncomfortable to lounge on the pillow pile. The faint smell of Argyle’s scent comforts you from the oversized, stolen shirt you currently wear.

Coldness shoots down your spine from the metal can that caresses the back of your neck, and you flinch away. Argyle chuckles lightly as he offers you the Cola can before sitting next to you with his own. Glaring at him from the corner of your eye, you drop your book to rub the frozen patch warm again and take a sip of soda.

“Sorry, sunshine,” Argyle chuckles. He leans against one arm and lays on his side to face you.

“Somehow, I don’t think that’s true,” you mutter under your breath. Turning your focus back to the book, only a few seconds pass before Argyle fingers tap the edge of the cover.

“Can we talk?” Argyle softly requests. His usual confident tone barely comes through over the sudden tiredness that overcomes his voice.

Shutting the book without a second thought, you focus all your attention on your fidgeting boyfriend. Your heart hammers against your chest as all the possibilities whirl around your head. His hand rests on your thigh, and he taps his fingertips in an unbalanced cadence. “I’m here,” you softly encourage him. With one hand, you carefully card your fingers through his hair pulling a grateful hum from Argyle as his eyes flutter closed. “What do you want to talk about?”

“This is going to sound loaded coming from me, alright? So bare with me,” he warily explains. Argyle peers up at you with apprehension before he refocuses his gaze to the fringed blanket below him. Darting his tongue across his bottom lip, he continues: “Lately, I feel like you’re slipping away from me. It’s like you’re off in your own world, and I can’t follow you there. I love hearing about the adventures and ideas you come up with when you travel there, but you’re so far away from me. I feel like I’m being left behind even when we’re sitting next to each other”.

Your heart sinks. The soda can plunks onto the floor with a dull thunk when you move it out of the way to lay down as close to Argyle as you can. “I didn’t realize you felt that way, Argyle. I’m so sorry, pretty boy. When I’m with you, just being around you and relaxing in your apartment makes me feel at home. I didn’t realize that I wasn’t always present in the moment with you - well, that…that would be the issue isn’t it?”. A weak laugh escapes past your lips, and your shoulders relax as Argyle’s laughter mixes with your own.

“I’m glad you feel like this is your home,” Argyle softly replies. His fingers smooth over your thigh and lazily drag across you. “And I don’t mind at all if you slip into a daydream or a world of your own. I just miss you sometimes. Don’t leave me for too long, alright?” Argyle looks up with the most gentle expression. His tired gaze holds such adoration.

“I’ll always come home, Argyle,” you reassure him. One of your hands comes to gently cup his jaw, and you rub your thumb across his cheek bone. “And I’ll do better about being more present when we’re together,” you promise.

“Thank you. And I just want to be clear, I don’t want you to completely leave your daydreams. That’s not it at all. Just, sometimes, include me in it or meet me back in our shared reality, ya know?” Argyle moves his hand to gesture vaguely before it wraps around your waist to pull you into his chest. “I love you, and I love who you are. Don��t change a thing about yourself unless you want to, alright sunshine?”

“Promise,” you mumble into his chest. 

Relaxing into his embrace, you listen to his calming heartbeat. The two of you quietly chat about the end of summer plans as your hands wander and gently caress each other. Evening creeps across the sky and paints the sky in a beautiful sunset as the two of you get lost in your own world. Together.

You walk a very thin line between being grounded and keeping your head in the clouds. Which is an extremely beautiful mix of characteristics! It allows you to feel empathetic towards others while staying optimistic.

Argyle matches you perfectly. To the point where everyone would think you’re too similar. However, the two of you slowly fall into sync and move together as if you had known each for your whole lives.

Argyle is capable of balancing you out when you fall into your ambition and letting it get to you, but he all pulls you back to reality when you seem to be drifting away. He never makes you feel insecure or bad about it though.

If you ever feel like Argyle’s too distant, he will always be open to sit down and talk. He may seem like he’s only there for a laugh or quick to melt into relaxation, but not when it comes to your connection.

  headcanon:  sen and various hcs.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS. Sen cares. Deeply. If he is silent and often appears uninterested in the situatiosn before his eyes, it is actually quite the opposite. He is a watcher and under that empty facial expression of his, he pays attention. It isn't truly out of mischieviousness that he does nor to collect information but simply how he interacts with the environment that surrounds him, the interactions and actions that takes place within it. He cares about the connections as well, even few, that link him to the rest of the world. Him being secluded, an associal, made him more aware of details, he finds reassurance in them. The places he enjoys the more his solitude at isn't locked in a room alone but are in the middle of a crowd. I'm surrounded yet I feel on my own - isn't a negative statement to him. He finds solace is being allowed to evolve on his own, to watch.

AN IMPORTANT HEADCANON. Anything ugly, damaged, crooked is absolutely beautiful to him. As a photographer, his career started quite normally, however he quickly enough realizes he's bored from pretty models for these fashion magazines calling him. The only life changing event to him was realize how ugly inside most of these models were, often capturing the moments between the shoots, to seize the exact moments where the masks fall : opportunism, narcissim, vanity, consumerism - there was nothing pretty in this industry. This attraction to anything damaged, inside or out, lead him to snap unconventional types of faces, beauties and bodies more, which surprisingly got him attention as an artist on a completely different scene than fashion. The only pictures he doesn't share however is the ones he takes when going a little futhur, taking a night job as a crime scene clearner : in his contemplation of the disfigured, he snaps the macabre and bloody scenes on that one camera he keeps to himself and himself only.

A USELESS HEADCANON. By the end of the night, after a job, his ritual is to sit in a konbini and eat instant ramen from the store. He passes time while reading whatever magazines he gets his hands on and only goes home when the sun finally rises.

POTENTIAL TRIGGERS. Emotional intimacy. If Sen is someone who enjoys having conversations that can go as deep as they can, dig into someone's core through words, face to face or behind his screen, he is not so comfortable anymore if any form of emotional intimacy starts developping between him and someone of interest : feelings. He is aware he finds beauty in the macabre, the dead, the unanimated and thinks to himself : if he finds someone so beautiful inside and out to the point he falls for them, will he start picturing them out of breath in order to immortalize their beauty with his lens? Which is as psychotic as it does scare him, he is aware.

SOMETHING YOU ENJOY ABOUT (WRITING) THEM. Sen is different from all the characters I usually write. Yes there is my usual sociopathic print all over the character however, his personality is new to me : someone who spends more time silent than talking, lack of confidence, not so social, secluded, submissive and almost passive. Instead of being the master of his own pleasure and entertainment and life, he often positions himself as a watcher, a follwer.

SOMETHING YOU WANT OTHERS TO KNOW BEFORE WRITING WITH THEM. I can picture writing this character in many slice of life situations. Sen is someone you can find alone in cafés, bars, at the konbinis, perfect places for every day interactions. Even through his daily job, as a photographer and as an artist. However, the other side of the character is unsettling, a little fucked up and deranged, this side I would love to explore with ones who want to match this darkness.

That big native Korean account (explainkm), antis and tkkrs attacked her bc she was the 1st who translated the "alcohol" part... then many more k-armys came forward and gave us the exact translation (with Korean and English subtitles) which proved explainkm translation XD also" and the beginning in the vid it sounds like Jk saying/asking st about Jimin but ofc it didn't get translated and neither jk "aigoo really? "..

on the vmin discourse.. on tw a vmin account apperead.. well, they are likely a troll and an anti jkker (and a jk anti..) saying that Tae showed more support to Face than JK bc Tae replied to a random post on weverse how he is looking forward to it.. so 1,5 hr live dedicated to jm and knowing the choreo and preaching smf pt2 and doing bg vocal in letters (and teasing about it hours b4 the album release) and congratulating jm for his music show win is irrelevant according to some ppl..ohhh and tae also posted about vibe in january so vmin bond is stronger than jikook :DDD yeah he posted about vibe which was a collab with another idol.. an idol from YG Entertainment.. let me think which gg is also in YG who also posted about Vibe?? also Letters tone and lyrics are similar to Friends? where in the world ?? As a former Elriel, I can admit they are worried Az and Gwyn could be mates, they are not as ignorant as the rest of the fandom makes them out to be. But many will not publicly admit it, especially those with bigger accounts and follwers.

Its no secret after that bonus chapter a lot of Elain and Azriel fans saw the writing on the wall. The ones still holding out hope will not go down easy. They are convinced Sarah won't let them down or want to lose them as readers/fans. Who do you think floods her team with emails of threats. They think numbers=power and it's why they continue to bombard her posts and create multiple accounts to harrass. I'm 27, that behavior is childish and petty. It's a shame because there are many Elriels who are kind, genuine and don't partake in the bullying and toxicity - which does goes both ways, but it's made this fandom less enjoyable for all. At the end of the day these are just fictional characters made up by a woman who loves romance and story telling. There is no reason to create such animosity amongst ourselves.

I've enjoyed your posts, it has helped me see the posssibilty of Elain with Lucien. I decided to do a re-read not too long ago and saw things from a new perspective after reading your theories and things clicked. I don't know yet if Elain will help with the spring court and stay or end up in day but I'm excited to read her journey.

And you're right, they wouldn't be getting this aggressive unless they weren't nervous. There's no denying that what SJM wrote in that Bonus Chapter creates major issues for E/riel. Ending his scene where the thought of one female's joy brings him happiness is kind of soul crushing when you're a fan of the other female.

I was the same before SF came out. I had only read the series one time and it's not that I was super invested in E/riel but I thought, "hmmm, they could be cute" because it seemed like SJM might be heading in that direction. I liked Lucien but I was really into Feysand at the time and wasn't as invested in what happened with the other characters. Elain and Lucien as Mates was cool but Elain with a sexy bat boy wasn't a bad deal either.

After the SF Bonus Chapter, I was frustrated because I started seeing the anti Elain arguments in the fandom (FB at that time) and why there was no way she was ending up with Az. I wanted to prove those arguments wrong so I started looking back over the series. That didn't work out like I thought it would because I started to understand why E/riel wasn't well matched and why SJM went the direction she did in the POV chapter. After breaking things down, it was almost funny how much I missed during my first read, how clever SJM was at making a compliment sandwich but in reverse (weird analogy but bear with me).

With the compliment sandwich, you compliment, give the bad news, then compliment again. But with SJMs writing, she sneaks something into the book that you don't think much of but is contradictory to the upcoming "compliment". Then a few sentences later, she mentions this thing that readers fixate on. Then a bit later in the book, she mentions something else that decreases the compliment.

For example, the sneaky "negative" is that Cassian first offers Elain a weapon and we don't really pay attention to that.

But then, we have the big line where Azriel hands Elain TT.

This is what E/riels fixate on because it's a "sweet" moment for them.

But then they ignore the fact that after that moment, Elain didn't want to take it but only did after Feyre assured her she wouldn't need it. Also, Feyre tells us Az is ONLY sitting out of the battle because Mor begged him too. Rhys originally told him to stay out of the fight which Azriel refused but after Mor spoke with him, he relented, because of not wanting to upset her. (so would Az have even given it to Elain if we were heading into battle?).

Then we have another BIG moment. Where Rhys tells Feyre Az has never let anyone touch that blade. So romantic, right?

But later, SJM makes sure to tell us that Elain took the blade, the thing Az has never let anyone use, and she gave it back to him. Pressed it into his hands and "walked away without looking back".

That is such an SJM style of writing. Readers get blinded by those flashy moments (I did too) so it's very easy to miss when she slips those other moments around it which tells us "I'm tricking you!! I'm letting you think that was a big deal but if you pay attention, you'll see why it's not!"

And like you said, I think after the Bonus Chapter, people were really able to view E/riel in a different light and see why they might never happen. Which honestly does feel painful if you were hoping for a couple to happen. I still feel sadness when I read about Chaol and Celeana's relationship deteriorating. These characters are definitely not real but it can still cause you to have a real reaction.

But.... (and as you said), it's a major issue when you can't stop yourself from actually threatening and bullying others over it. Especially when at this point we KNOW this is an author who switches up relationships. We can be hopeful that our ship is endgame but it's foolish to assume that SJM can't pull the rug out from under us based on every single other book she's ever written. 😂. I truly think she's going with Elucien but even I realize that she can work her magic and still write E/riel as endgame if that's the vision she had. Those aren't the clues I'm picking up on but I'm not inside her mind so she could still surprise me.

It is such a compliment that you were able to see the possibility of Elucien more clearly during your reread!! I will be so excited if their book comes out and I managed to get at least something correct! 😂
