What's Copperhead's opinion on reptile shows?
Slipping this beneath the cut for animal cruelty mentions ~
Provided the animals are well-cared for and aren't being exploited by unscrupulous breeders, Copperhead can't bring himself to completely hate reptile shows? Anything that spreads public awareness and puts reptiles in a positive light is way better than ignorance and hate, and should the animals be in good health, treated well and handled by enthusiasts who know what they're doing, he's content to leave those people be.
What Copperhead hates are people who care more about spinning profit than caring about the animals they claim to love. Breeding for certain colours and patterns is one thing, but certain lines are as detrimental to reptiles as pedigrees are to dogs. Spider Ball Pythons are one example, bred for their unique patterns despite horrific neurological side effects for the animal in question - the snakes perpetually have a 'wobble', can never see or move straight and are condemned to a miserable life from start to finish. All for the sake of a pretty pattern.
He despises that so much, and in turn despises people who care more about getting a fancy-looking pet than actually caring about the impact their purchase has on the future of keeping reptiles, with more people getting into the hobby. Educating the public and showing them that reptiles aren't cold-blooded monsters looking to bite everyone is something he loves, whereas bastardizing nature and screwing with it for profit is one way to get his attention and not in a good way.

When picking up an escaped quail yesterday, I realized how much larger my g3 and g4 quail are compared to the ogs. This has actually created an unanticipated problem where the ogs are inadvertently getting bullied solely because their offspring are almost twice their size and push them off places. Either need to make them a retirement pen or find them homes that don't mind a lack of eggs.
On the flipside, I introduced some 3 week old babies into the colony to get more color variety in there and only 1 gen3 hen took a chance to pull rank (guessing she's low on the totem pole) vs 2 of the og hens. So they're getting bigger but they're also getting better mannered and nicer.

I literally glanced at the anti-natalism subreddit because I'm a single, child free woman turning 30 and reddit obviously has my number, but jesus christ, these people really type out full essays on how every suffering in your child's life is your fault and you'll have to live with yourself knowing all their failed marriages and bankruptcy are all your fault because you had the selfishness to want to procreate... I've never seen such neurotic dribble. They even said 'every skinned knee'.
Also, not to mention all the obvious incels who refer to women as breeders and think pregnancy is women 'being stupid bitches self-harming'. Hide yourself behind as much 'I don't want anymore children to suffer' bullshit as you want, but when the majority of your comments are about slagging off women, calling us stupid, calling us whores, calling us 'breeders' and insisting maternity leave and childcare shouldn't be a thing because it 'encourages women to be lazy whores who get fucked and paid' then you're just another incel sub by a different name.

set up a bigger tank for the two hainanensis Chinese cave geckos I got from Pangea this weekend at NARBC (still gonna be adding stuff to it but its livable for them atm). really kinda hoping those two are girls so that I can buy an adult male later on from another breeder, but I never see cave geckos at my local shows so I couldn't pass them up. actually I have seen cave geckos locally but they were from people I consider somewhat sketchy and I didn't trust that they were captive bred. all the ones I got this weekend definitely were.
speaking of not being able to pass them up, I also got a bigger tank for the bawanglingensis Chinese cave gecko I also got this weekend but I'm not sure if I'm gonna put the little guy in it quite yet because he's so tiny and he might be more secure in the critter carrier. I'll probably get it set up this week regardless and then see how I feel about it.
I honestly wasn't looking to get into two different species of Chinese cave gecko, but I saw the little bawanglingensis guy the second day of NARBC and I couldn't pass him up, and like I said I never see ANY cave geckos (that I know aren't wild caught) at my local shows. I might see which species I prefer and consider breeding that one, or I might get into both. either way, I'm gonna need more adults down the line, but I got time to figure that out
