punch out pokemon au ‼️
so i realized that punch out wii has 13 opponents (not counting donkey kong) that are divided up in such a way that they could all be opponents in a pokemon game! the minor and major circuits are the 8 gym leaders, the world circuit is the elite four, and mr sandman is the champion! it's too perfect! i've at least decided everyone's type specialties, sooo....
gym leaders (minor & major circuits):
- glass joe: flying types
i imagine joe is not as miserable in this au, since the first gym leader's job is literally to lose a lot to young trainers. he's not too skilled at battling, and became a gym leader by accident. his team is made up of two measly kalosian flying types, fletchling and vivillon.
- von kaiser: rock types
i know herr kaiser is typically associated with steel, but steel types are way too cool to be the type of the second gym. sorry. i imagine his students are his gym trainers. his ace is rockruff, and maybe he uses something classic like geodude as well.
- disco kid: electric types
these moves are ELECTRIC! i think this one is self-explanatory. disco kid is pretty good at battling, at least good enough to secure a spot as the 3rd gym leader, but he also doesn't take things too seriously. his team is made up of pokemon that he befriended first and trained for battle later, with his ace being raichu.
- king hippo: ground types
did i give him the ground type just so i could give him hippowdon? ...maybe. there's not much else for me to say about king hippo... he's just chilling. good for him. i was originally gonna give him the poison type, but i'll be giving that type to someone else. ;)
- piston hondo: ghost types
what can i say? he seems like a ghost type guy. obviously he gets a revaroom, because honda and all that. he absolutely feeds his pokemon only the best of snacks.
- bear hugger: normal types
what comes to mind when you hear "bear hugger" and "pokemon"? obviously it's bewear. that is his ace, without a doubt. he also has a greedent and a snorlax, it's way too perfect! and of course, they all like raw fish.
- great tiger: psychic types
yeah i don't think i need to explain this one. the man has a medicham (his ace) and an espeon. this also fits the theme of psychic gym leaders tending to have psychic powers themselves. do you think it's legal to use your own psychic powers to trip up your opponents in a battle? let's not worry about it...
- don flamenco: grass types
it goes without saying that this man has a roserade for his ace, as well as an equally powerful arboliva. maybe carmen is one of his gym trainers, or perhaps she's only there to cheer him on? and do you think he would acquire a shiny roserade for his title defense fight to match his all-black look?
elite four (world circuit):
- aran ryan: bug types
what an absolute bug of a man. starting off the elite four strong with a not-so-strong type, aran ryan chose the generation 7 bug type vikavolt to be his ace. he also has a shedinja, which sports the electric tera type and the air balloom item in his title defense fight. really? (for non-pokemon nerds, this setup makes it nearly unkillable. it's practically cheating!) aran has a questionable background, and seems to have been affiliated with some shady people in the past...
- soda popinski: water types
mister popinski has a love for both water and ice types, and he's in luck because a good few pokemon are both! his ace is one of those, that being walrein. he also has a lapras. he's quite fond of giving his team the soda pop item as opposed to normal healing items during battle.
- bald bull: fire types
red is the color of anger, and also the color of the fire type, so naturally this angry man would gravitate towards fire types, especially the fire type bull that is paldean taurous. he also uses a magmortar. of course bald bull isn't angry ALL the time, and spends his free time relaxing with his pokemon. warm pokemon give warm hugs :]
- super macho man: dragon types
of course everyone's "favorite" show-off uses what's generally regarded as one of the most powerful types. his ace is a kommo-o, a very cool one at that. (i like smm and i like kommo-o. but it works!) he also has an appletun, which was a gift to him from a certain someone... oh my god, this au lets macho man literally release the beast. amazing.
the champion (mr. sandman)
sandman does not use just one type, as is the case with most champions. he has a gengar and a musharna, for obvious reasons. he also has a crabominable and and a hydrapple. he was mysteriously missing after mac defeated the elite four, but i'm sure he'll come back soon. right?
i'm sure nothing bad will happen ;)
feel free to suggest ideas for this au, i still need to flesh out all of the teams so i am welcome to input :3

Ava hungry to taste all these new snacks and drinks, Bea noticing what flavors she likes best and getting more of those. Saving some to try for the first time with ava so they can experience new things together.
Bea rescuing pokemon but the line gets blurred until you don't know who truly saved who in the end. That s1 scene with ash shoving everyone in their pokeballs to keep them warm but them all coming out and wrapping themselves around him but with bea and her equally stubborn pokemon
Bea someone stealing a few pokeballs and potions before shes 10 and making her way into the world with nothing but the ghosts of her past
Gymleader!Lilith(?) Pushed only it by her family but equally trapped and unable to see the world joining bea along the way(????)
Ava and the ghost haunting her walls Ava and her ghost Ava and her G-
beatrice who only goes into the city with her binder on, her hair stuffed under a cap, telling anyone who asks that she’s ben (and yeah, she’s also ten)
finding that she likes it, sometimes; how it feels when someone calls her “young man” (she’s polite, occasionally) her face a scattering of bruises from training with rockruff. drifting through stores with a small handful of cash stuffing chocolate bars into her pockets, using rockruff as a distraction so she can sprint away with a 6-pack of sodas in hand.
at ava’s window mussing up her hair, binder tight around her chest as she tries to catch her breath, spraying herself with so much deodorant she starts coughing uncontrollably. rockruff sitting there doing the puppy head-tilt, nibbling at the loose threads dancing at the ends of her cutoff shorts.
getting different flavours of soda for ava. running away from everyone else but toward her. and ava saving her fruit, passing beatrice an apple with a stern expression and bea watching her, brow creased as she eats the apple, core and all.
“oh no bea did you just eat that entire thing?!”
“shouldn’t i? is the middle bit poisonous?”
“no, but it’s gross.”
bea, who has eaten garbage and chewed at uncooked mushrooms with her stomach like an animal trying to tear her apart, just shrugs. takes the banana ava offers her next, “bea, you definitely don’t eat all of that.”
rolling her eyes but bananas are imports so she’s not had once since home, when her mother used to cut them up into little disks for her.
“ava?”
“yeah bea?”
“why do you say my name so much?”
and ava shrugging, blushing but beatrice you idiot. it’s because she knows there’s noone else in the world who does.
beatrice who is so so loved but afraid to see it, like looking might scare the love away. but out in the cold, trapped in an ice storm trying to coax dratini into its pokeball, rockruff pressed into her ribs under her threadbare coat and both of them shivering.
skarmory with its wings tented around them, standing a little back because steel only gathers up the cold, but guiding the wind around them. charmander in her lap and bea with her hands cupped around its tail because that little light has to stay, has to be protected.
brows creased, “please. you need to go inside the pokeball. you’ll freeze out here… you’ll die.” and beatrice in the hills (not) alone, crying suddenly because she can’t lose them, would rather die alone than in company. but her pokemon staying with her, charmander huffing warm breaths into her face, rockruff solid at her side, dratini humming to itself (maybe the edge of a lullaby?)
the huddle of them waking together like ash and pikachu after the spearow attack. hazy, charmander having run out when the storm settled to collect twigs strewn loose by the storm. a small fire burning and beatrice waking up. her first thought is of her pokemon. hand on rockruff’s head.
her second thought is about ava

Delta Chronicles Chapter 1
"Congrats! The Princess is saved once again!" A young man sits cross-legged on the floor of his plain bedroom, a halfway-tucked bedsheet resting over the bed just behind him. His caramel-colored eyes rest on the dusty screen in front of him, staring at the "Continue? Y/N" option before him. He takes a swig of his caffeinated lemonade soda as he watches the looping victory animation of the knight carrying the princess off into the sunset.
"If only it were that easy.....", he mumbles to himself as he presses the 'No" option, returning to the main menu. The young man would love nothing more than to help someone in the same way that knight helps the captured princess, hoisting her off to a world where she can truly be safe. A world where she can be happy. He sets the controller down, and looks over at the clock.
"Damn, it's already ten?!" He gets up, deciding now would be a good time to finish up that book report that's due in a few days. He had been putting it off for too long, mostly due to the slew of issues he's had to deal with since the week started. First, the Rockruff he adopted ran off into the night, and is nowhere to be seen. The old lady he bought it off of warned him that it was quite skittish, but he wrongfully assumed it had finally gotten used to him, after a few weeks of accepting food and the occasional head pat. Why it bolted off the first chance it got was beyond him. Shortly after that, one of his best friends started ghosting him for no reason. He couldn't fathom what he could have done to offend him. He had spent the past few days ruminating over what he potentially could have said that might have pissed Cedrick off, but nothing came to mind. Between that and looking for his lost pokemon, almost getting lost in the forest just beyond his house on more than a few occasions in the process, he felt completely distraught.
"All I want to do is help people and this is how I'm treated in return?", he grumbles as he pulls his binder out of his backpack. As he places the binder on the table, a small note slips out of it onto the desk resting alongside the wall next to his bed.
He picks it up and unfolds it, holding it up to the moonlight filtering in through his open window on the opposite side of the room. It is quite hot this time of the year in Orre, and keeping the AC on 24/7 weas just too expensive.
*Hey, Wyatt. I know this is sudden and all, but I thought out of everyone, you deserved to know the most. We've talked about getting out of this dust bowl and moving to a different region, but it was always just that; something we talked about. You and I both know airplane and boat tickets are well beyond our budget, but I think I've come up with a way to live the dream we've always wanted, without spending a single cent doing it. Come meet me at my house this Saturday night, and I'll show you what I have in mind. With any luck, you'll be able to tag along.*
"Shit, that's tonight!" He curses himself for not seeing this earlier. It was probably sitting in his binder this entire week and he was just too distracted to find it. He grabs his backpack, dumping out his school-related belongings and adding in a few personal possessions of his, mainly some food and water, an extra change of clothes, his pocket multitool and his last pokeball. He slings the packpack behind him and grabs the Pokegear resting on his table before leaving.
*Cedric's house is a few miles from here. If I use my bike, I might be able to make it there in about half an hour.*, he thinks to himself as he opens up his Pokegear. He pulls up the phone app and tries to contact Cedric as he makes his way down the stairs, grabbing the bike next to the front door.
It takes a few rings, but he does eventually pick up. "Hey, bud! Where are ya? I was just about to call.", Cedric says, not even bothering to make sure it's Wyatt on the other end.
"Sorry! I didn't see your note until, like, a few minutes ago. Which begs the question; why didn't you just text me?", Wyatt asks as he clumsily fits his bicycle through the doorway with one hand.
"Because you never read your texts, dude! I figured the note would be the more reliable option."
He looks down at the massive pile of backed-up notifications he's never bothered to open on the messaging app. "....fair enough. Either way, I'm on my way now. Is time a serious factor here? Do I need to hurry?", Wyatt asks, walking his bike down the gravel path towards the smooth dirt road a hundred or so feet from his house. It rests in an open field with a sparse forest about half a mile out, growing around a river that makes for one of the few fertile patches of land in the area. Everything else mostly consists of rocky terrain and dry dirt that is barely capable of supporting an occasional patch of grass or weed, if that.
"Not really, but the faster you get here, the more time we'll have to plan this out.", Cedric says, refusing to elaborate.
"Plan what? I swear if this involves stealing from someone....", he says, unamused.
"Stealing? No. It's just..... There's a boat with trade goods docking into the nearby pier, and from what I understand it's heading to Unova. We could stow away on it and hitch a ride out of here! I've saved up some money for us to-"
"That's your plan?! Hide away on some boat for days on end? Throw our current lives away just for a change of scenery? What's your mom going to think? What's my mom going to think?!", he asks, clearly not on board with the idea.
The fact that he is still riding his bike to Cedric's house implies otherwise, however.
"What are they gonna do, ground us from across the ocean? If they really care about us, they'll be happy that we're finally where we want to be in life. So long as we check in every so often and prove we're not dead, or whatever."
There is a long pause as Wyatt cruises his way through the downhill portion of the trip, leading up to the bridge crossing the river.
".........c'mon, man! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity-"
"I know, I know! I'm on my way. I'm willing to hear you out. I just don't want to end up in jail or something over this, if your plan goes sideways.", Wyatt says, slowing down as he crosses the old wooden bridge. It creaks a bit under the weight of him and his bike.
"Don't worry. It's just an old merchant ship. I doubt the person running it will turn us in on the spot. Worst-case scenario, I can bribe him with my savings. It won't be ideal, but I'm confident it'll work out in our favor."
"Yeah, that's what you always say......", Wyatt grumbles, speeding up for the last leg of the trip, which is a straight shot to Cedrik's house. He could feel his heart pounding, mostly from excitement, but also from the effort of pedaling the bike.
"Man, I wish I still had that Rockruff......" He thinks about the one pokeball he has to his name, wondering what he might be able to catch in whatever region they end up in as he speeds toward his best friend, and what might be his only chance at a better life.
------------------------------------------------------------------
".......Taral, hurry up! We're getting ready to leave!" A boy in baggy, white-and green clothing continues packing his clothes, doing his best to hide a sizable pouch of coin as he does so. "Yeah, I'm almost ready, mother! I'm still looking for the right outfit to wear!", he hollers, closing the briefcase. He looks over to his vanity mirror and combs his sterling-colored hair one final time, his bright blue eyes staring back at him. "This is my only chance. If I can't find a foreign merchant selling one of those fancy capsules, I don't know what I'll do....."
He sighs, before putting the simple bamboo comb back into its designated place in its drawer. Got to keep everything orderly or his parents might think he's not 'disciplined' enough. Can't have that.
"TARAL! WE'RE LEAVING!" His mom's shrill voice echoes through the house. "Yes, I'm coming!", he says, grabbing his briefcase and hurrying down the stairs.
His parents are already out the door by the time he makes his way down. "Honestly, I thought you would be more enthusiastic about this, considering it's an opportunity to leave the estate.", his mom says as he approaches the carriage.
"I am! Which is why I want to make the best first impression I possibly can. And having an impeccable appearance is important for that.", he says, getting into the back seat.
His mom smiles, looking back at him from the front passenger seat she's sitting in. "That's my boy!" She leans over and pinches his cheek. It hurts a bit, but he does not protest.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for us, and it's good to hear that you're taking things seriously."
His father does not respond, already poring over some instructional book. "Well, then. Let's see how serious you really are.", he says in an authoritative tone. He begins drilling him on the various rules of proper etiquette and manners on the way there, which Taral aces almost perfectly.
"Well done, son. Still room for improvement, but I am proud, nonetheless.", he says as he closes the book.
"That's great to hear.", Taral says in a distant tone as he stares out the carriage window. It's relatively small, but does give a nice view of the rolling hillsides and forests of southwestern Ransei. He knew better than to get excited at his father's praise, despite how rare and brief it usually is. As far as his dad was concerned, every moment celebrating past successes is a moment wasted. If it were up to him, he would have no time to himself whatsoever.
Luckily, his mom is much softer on him, and refuses to budge on the few privileges he is allowed to have. It's the main reason he's saved up every spare coin he could obtain; to get a pokemon of his own and put this region behind him; abandoning its stiff, outdated customs in the process. Unfortunately, this plan hinges on finding a pokeball imported from one of the other regions where such devices are actually commonplace; otherwise he'll have no reliable way of taking the creature with him.
"You still want to browse the shops while we're there, Taral? It looks like we'll be arriving a bit early, so you'll have a few hours to look around."
His father sighs. "Knew we should have brought the algebra book. This would be a wonderful opportunity to-"
"Let him have his fun for once, Daido. You'll burn him out with all this incessant studying."
He scoffs, but does not push the subject.
"What are you thinking about buying?", his mother asks.
Taral knows exactly what he's going to buy, but pretends to ponder the question.
".....probably another journal. My current one is almost filled up."
His father frowns. "Think you'll fill this one with notes on a real discipline, like law or medicine, instead of writing down every little detail on those.... beasts that roam the estate?", he asks in a condescending tone.
"Oh, settle down! Being a pokemon professor is every bit as valid a career path as a lawyer or doctor. He'll bring plenty of honor to our family, either way.", his mother says, reassuringly.
Again, he scoffs but does not protest. No one says a word for the rest of the trip. The tension in the air is palpable, but Taral doesn't mind so much. He's used to these moments by now. Yet another reason to leave, and make a new life for himself elsewhere.

Chapter 8/Trial 2: Grass and Electric Boogaloo
Rules: https://dontfindyourcenter.tumblr.com/post/177027661290/rules
Previous: https://dontfindyourcenter.tumblr.com/post/177379371020/chapter-seven-new-island
Not a lot of setup here; I beat two trainers, I use two fresh waters, and here we go - into trial number two.
Trial guide Lana meets me at the door and registers a lapras on my ride pager, so from this point on, the sea is no barrier in this game.  This is great!  Now I can ignore this trial malarkey and swim to one of the normal regions.  Get myself some gym badges.  Why has nobody thought of this before?
...Ok, that didn’t work.  There were some rocks in the way, and also Hawaii (and by extension Alola) is several thousand miles away from any major land masses.  I guess I’ll have to carry on with the game in front of me.  Oh well!
I had a pretty good feeling that Hedwig would be able to beat the trial pokemon that turn up before the totem without too much hassle, so I was a little sneaky for the first couple of matches and made him hold a Shell Bell, a held item that would probably be of a lot more use to me if I had either the patience or the memory required to use it whenever it was useful, instead of just making magnemite hold it all the time.  See, the shell bell restores the health of its holder by a fraction of the damage that it inflicts, so by the time we get to the totem pokemon, Hedwig’s on full health and ready for it.  Lovely job!
Side note: I have a real soft spot for Lana, the trial captain.  She’s such a massive troll.  Take the little joke she pulls on the player character here, where she tries to convince you that Brooklet Hill is where the legendary pokemon Kyogre, embodiment of the sea, comes from.  Now, to a lot of the actual people playing the game on their 3DSes, that’s just an obvious lie.  But within the game’s logic?  Your character is a freaking eleven-year-old! They’re here visiting Alola for the first time ever!  They’ve technically already met three legendary pokemon and they’re barely a quarter of the way through their journey!  Why wouldn’t they believe there was another one around here?  Having been born and raised in Wales, I really like seeing people who come from an area with a complex cultural history and outstanding natural beauty poking gentle fun at the gullibility of tourists.  A+ prank, would recommend to a friend.  What I really like about her is that later in the game, you can visit her house and find out that she has two younger sisters who both think she’s the coolest creature who ever walked the earth.  As far as I’m concerned, those two little sisters are spot on.
Side note over.  Time to beat the Totem Wishiwashi!  I let Digit Al the magnemite go first to get Wishiwashi paralysed with thunder wave, then let Hedwig  take the wheel when Al takes a heavy hit.  Hedwig then uses a barrage of razor leaves whittle down both the totem and its assisting pokemon at once.  I have to use a soda pop to heal Hedwig up towards the end of the match, but for the most part, I doubt that the match could have gone much better.
Lana congratulates me on beating the pokemon, gives me a water z-crystal and a fishing rod she handmade by herself, and then refuses to either confirm nor deny the rumour that she once saw a shiny gyarados.  A rumour she just told me about three seconds earlier.  I wish I was half as cool as her.
Time to head on south, where a pair of Sudowoodo are blocking my path, but run away in fear when they see the z-crystal I just won.  I feel like I could have just as easily battled them to stop them being in the way, what with this being a pokemon-battling game and all, but ok.  Onwards to route 6 and the Battle Royale Dome!
Ooh, first though, I come across some Team Skull goons who are failing miserably to steal a drifloon and running afoul of future Kahuna Hapu in the process.  I’ll tell you what I love most about this; we’re on route 6, yeah?  If they wandered about in the tall grass a couple of inches to the west, before too long they could have found an Eevee.  That’s so much more useful than a drifloon, and yet here they are, willing to face down a strong trainer’s mudsdale (a pokemon which has to be at least level 30 to have evolved) with their level 17 drowzee just for an opportunity to steal a not-particularly good pokemon.  While we’re at it, why didn’t they just try to steal the mudsdale?   Oh, Team Skull, never change.
Anyway, Nina the rockruff beats that drowzee pretty much instantaneously with a couple of good, sharp bites.  I’ve got to say, it’s amazing how little I’ve missed John Keel the yungoos since I caught Nina - she’s just fab.  And speaking of people who are fab, Hapu is a great introduction to the recurring cast here, oozing sapphic energy as she compliments my name and tells me that she’s indebted to me for my aid.  Of course I know that, later in the game, Lillie will swoop in and take her away from me, but the flirtation is fun in the meantime.  Nice to be noticed, and all.
Before visiting the Battle Royale dome, I decide I might as well run the rest of the way down route 6 and see what I can find.  As it turns out, the answer is two trainers, a carbos and a rare candy, and then a lemonade from somebody in a part of Heahea City I hadn’t visited before.
Oh, man, you guys, this is just embarrassing.  On the way back up to the Battle Royale Dome, I brush up against some long grass and a yungoos jumps out at me.  Having taken part in (and won) quite a few battles since she was last healed, Nina is looking the worse for wear, so I decided to switch her out of the battle… and the bloody yungoos used pursuit and knocked her out.
Luckily, I was able to use a revive immediately before running away, so it wasn’t against my ridiculous rules, and I still have plenty of revives left.  But man, beaten by a yungoos; that’s just depressing.  If it isn’t a sign that I should turn the game off and have a break before I make any other stupid mistakes, I don’t know what is.
End of chapter eight.
