This book is the first book that I remember picking out for myself, so as far as my memory goes, this is the first book I ever purchased. Happystarville is an illustrated book by Ase Omavuaye Otite. This book is about a magical village where everyone is a star and the villagers receive a magical surprise everyday. But when one of the village boys chooses to disobey the rules on the Golden Anniversary of the village, he must do what is necessary to make things right. 🦄🦄🦄 This book helps children learn about the consequences of disobedience which is something we see a lot in these days. This book puts a slight fear in the child's mind about what could happen if you do something wrong but, at the same time if you listen, great things can happen. Trying is the first step to whatever comes next. 🦄🦄🦄 The Vanishing Stair is the second book in the Truly Devious series by Maureen Johnson. Continuing with the timeline in the first book, the story shifts between the happenings of 1936 and present day giving us small tidbits to put the pieces together. While the plot (and mystery) development is fine quite sensationally, the character and relationship developments stile the shoe for me as we get to dig deeper into the characters lives and their stories. Now that David's father and their relationship has been revealed, it sheds light as to some of David's personality traits and moralities. While he is nothing like his father, he's still his father's blood and finding herself in such a difficult situation, Stevie has to decide what's more important. Coming to the plot, I love it almost as much as I did the first book, it may be a little bit slow at times, but the plot continues to strengthen and grow as more secrets are uncovered. One minute, all is doom; the next, everything is abloom with possibility. 🦄🦄🦄 The Hand On the Wall is the third book in the Truly Devious series by Maureen Johnson. When The Vanishing Stair ended with the unbelievable cliffhanger it left me gobsmacked. With do many deaths and a missing David, Stevie's life is definitely not where she thought it would be in the beginning of the series and what was supposed to be a one way investigation into the past turned out to be quite the adventure for her. Once again continuing with the past vs. present storytelling style, but also the classic set up of putting all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle together to reach the end result and what a rollercoaster it turned out to be. In terms of characters the "relationship" didn't end up being one of my OTPs because it felt a bit forced, but a lot of the more non-prominent characters are given more of the spotlight in this book and they've really shined. Although, I must admit that the final culprit might have disappointed me just a tad, I still enjoyed the overall adventure and mystery this book had to offer. In this finale we have all our questions answered, from what happened in 1936 to what's going on in the present and the way both these events seem to interconnect not just because of its location but other key players is brilliantly doneand reminded me a lot about the classic mystery novels we grew up on. But one thing's for sure, she is more than just human. 🦄🦄🦄 Beautiful Nightmare is a fantasy romance novel by L. C. Son and the first in the series. The beginning part of the book resonates more with a contemporary romance novel except for a few excerpts (her dreams) because it's focused more on Damina personal life and love. Damina's story is one of self-searching after being joined to one man for a good portion of her life, a man that deceived her, she wants nothing more than to understand what's best for her after keeping his opinions before her own. Dalour, is someone Damina meets in New Orleans and is infatuated with her. He is, unique to say the least and the situation they find themselves in is excruciatingly hard to read because it's one I never thought I would come across again. (Read to find out what!) Some of the dialogues that the characters were a bit cringey (I am not a huge fan of cliché sayings) but that's a personal opinion. There was a twist that I should've seen coming because I know better but there wasn't a hint of it happening. (Yes, I am ashamed for not realizing it earlier 😂.) I'm going to be starting with the sequel really soon and I cannot wait to see what happens next. As you read each chapter they seem disjointed, but they all have one underlying topic in common, chaos. This book offers a view of a person's mind and mental health. As you can see from just the one stanza which I've included above, it's dark because at times the mind can be a dark place, especially when your body and it don't get along. This was a little heavy read for me just because of the intensity of the topic but the poet gas written it so well that I couldn't stop reading. There's one more stanza I really loved which was: These moments of stillness Amidst all the madness It’s magic, right under your nose The beauty in being so restless Racing minds breed wandering souls. I don't normally share more than two verses but this time I had to. But sometimes when we're on a journey for revenge, we end up losing a piece of ourselves. 🦄🦄🦄 The Graveyard Book Graphic Novel: Volume 2 is the graphic adaptation of the Novel by Neil Gaiman adapted by P. Craig Russell while the illustrations are done by various illustrators. Volume 2 contains chapter one through 6, 7 and 8 of the book. Just like volume 1, this is a book you can finish in one go because the story and the illustrations are both really good. This was an enjoyable conclusion to the story, however I preferred the story in volume 1. The main in chapter 7 was a little bit underwhelming and I'm waiting for the actual novel to arrive to make a comparison. Chapter 6 and 8 however were better with chapter 8 breaking my heart. But life does not always provide you with the easy way to success and happiness. As we watch teenage Shlok grow up to be the man he is today, watch as he has a guiding from far beyond to show him the way even during his toughest times. 🦄🦄🦄 Sunshine Town by Maniissh Aroraa This story is great for those who are in their teens and are still figuring out their way in life. As Indians we grow up in families that have certain expectations for us but sometimes we do not want to follow the path they have paved for us but want to choose our own path. Shlok is definitely a great character because he is relatable to many (if not all) students who are under a lot of pressure to make their parents proud so I did like him a lot. But, Natasha who is his childhood sweetheart and someone who is considered to be an integral part of the story but I really didn't feel like she was. The writing style was average for me as there were times scenes or dialogues felt unrealistic. I feel like there are parts that could have been written it explained better without rushing through the story (like his relationship with Natasha and Yana). I do like some of the motivational quotes included in this book and because it was integrated into the story was a bonus. But what first starts as a ploy to keep Felicity distracted ends up being one hot and romantic adventure for Jack. 🦄🦄🦄 Taming Her Stallion is the first book in the Self-Made Rogue Series by Megan Musgrove and is an erotic romance novel. There's not much to say about character and plot developments as this is a straightforward and quick book with most of the emphasis being on the romance. The path is just like any other romance novel with its "scenes" and a little bit of drama. I do like Felicity because even though she's a woman from the 1800s she knows how to stand her ground and it's amazing to see how supportive her father is. Jack and Ian both have had difficult childhoods but they have persevered and even if their intentions were cloudy, peoplechange. I wish there was more unravelling to the mystery in this book but and the ending was a bit drab for me as I was expecting more drama and intensity from such a huge twist.
