Hello from Drombeg Stone Circle in Glandore, Ireland! 🇮🇪🪨😺
This is an ancient megalithic site dating back to the Bronze Age to early Iron Age and was used until the 5th Century AD. The stone circle features 17 stones, 13 of which are still standing. There were cremated remains of an adolescent in a pot found in the circle’s center. The second photo shows a roasting oven area for heating water and the third photo shows the cooking area.
While it’s amazing to see stones still standing for thousands of years that were influenced by humans, it’s always a bit eerie to me that these stone circles have human remains, so I try not to step on too much of anything out of respect. These monuments are literally graveyards. So after a quick walk around and admiring the feats, I leave and don’t spend too much time at these places.
But now you can enjoy these photos without the eerie feeling I experienced 😺

Safest Countries for Solo Female Travelers
In an ever-changing world, the perception of travel has evolved, brimming with powerful, courageous women who explore the globe solo. This leap into the unknown can be both exciting and intimidating, but with a careful selection of destinations, safety does not have to be forfeited for a memorable adventure. This article highlights the five safest countries that can promise solo female travelers an experience enriched with culture, stunning views, warm hospitality, and most importantly, safety
Japan
Tumblr media
Known for its technological advancements juxtaposed against a backdrop of well-preserved, rich history, Japan tops our list. The country is renowned for its exceptional levels of safety, making it ideal for solo female travelers. Japanese people are gracious hosts and uphold values of respect and humility that define their culture. Public transport is reliable and operates accurately to the minute, and streets are generally illuminated and populated even at night. From the scenic beauty of cherry blossoms in Kyoto to the fascinating city life of Tokyo, your journey through Japan is expected to be unforgettable.
Iceland
Tumblr media
Widely recognized as one of the most gender-equal countries globally, it comes as no surprise that Iceland is the second on our list. Boasting incredibly low crime rates, the Land of Fire and Ice provides not just safety but also the captivating beauty of its natural wonders. Whether it's the Northern Lights, the Blue Lagoon, or the majestic waterfalls and geysers, Iceland delivers a thrilling adventure for travelers, always within a safe environment.
Finland
Tumblr media
Another Nordic country that ranks high in safety is Finland. Finnish people are generally quiet but very polite and respectful, and criminals are few and far between. The bustling city life of Helsinki, combined with the serene landscapes of Lapland, makes Finland a great destination with ample cultural immersion or relaxation, depending on your preference.
Canada
Tumblr media
For solo female travelers seeking English-speaking destinations, Canada arrives as a safe haven. Canadians are renowned for their friendly disposition, and the nation flaunts an impressively low crime rate. Its cities, such as Vancouver and Toronto, are clean and safe, with efficient public transport systems. Moreover, the spell-bounding beauty of the Canadian Rockies, Niagara Falls, and the charm of Quebec add variety to the discovery journey.
Portugal
Tumblr media
Often touted as one of the friendliest countries in Europe, Portugal is a hot spot for solo female travelers. With its safety record, gorgeous coastline, captivating history, delicious cuisine, and welcoming locals, Portugal has so much to offer. The Portuguese people uphold the values of hospitality and are always willing to extend a helping hand to tourists, ensuring your stay is safe and enjoyable.

The first Bahá’í House of Worship on the African continent, completed in 1961, is in Kampala, Uganda and has become a well-known landmark. Bahá’í Houses of Worship are spiritual gathering places open to all peoples. It was far from easy to get here. I took a bus from Kenya to Uganda over night, with multiple delays and had to switch hotels three times. But I was able to make it and listen to prayers and choir and meet locals. The stories have been touching and at times funny. One story was the Ugandans were skeptical of the Temple and rumored it had ghosts. There are no ghosts, but it is a very spiritual and peaceful place to visit so please go if you can. #bahai #bahaitemple #bahaihouseofworship #Uganda #kampala #africa #solofemaletravel #solotravel #travel #sightsee #femaletraveler #travelblog #nofilter #nofilterneeded (at Bahá'í House of Worship - Uganda) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4bSsVtZcg/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Free Couch surfing Alternatives
Traveling the world is an exciting experience, but finding affordable and safe accommodations can be a challenge. Couchsurfing, a popular hospitality exchange platform, has been a go-to option for budget travelers for many years. However, recent changes to the platform's business model have made it less accessible and appealing to many users. Fortunately, there are still many free Couchsurfing alternatives available that offer similar opportunities to connect with locals and experience a place from a local's perspective.
Travel Ladies
Travel ladies is a free hospitality exchange platform for women, founded in 2011. The platform connects female travelers with female hosts who are willing to offer free accommodation, local tips, and cultural experiences. Travel Ladies aims to provide a safe and supportive community for women who love to travel and explore new cultures. Users can search for hosts by location or interest and can also offer to host other travelers in their own homes. Travel Ladies is a great option for solo female travelers who want to connect with other like-minded women and experience a place from a local's perspective.
BeWelcome
BeWelcome is a non-profit, volunteer-run hospitality exchange platform that allows you to connect with hosts who are willing to offer free accommodation. BeWelcome operates on a donation basis, so users are encouraged to make a contribution to help cover the site's running costs.
Trustroots
Trustroots is another non-profit, volunteer-run hospitality exchange platform that is completely free to use. Trustroots encourages users to focus on building meaningful connections and fostering a sense of community.
Servas
Servas is a non-profit organization that promotes peace-building and cultural exchange through travel and homestays. Servas has been operating for over 70 years, and hosts are carefully vetted to ensure a safe and positive experience for travelers.
