We are so happy to see the turn up of dancers in a big number to attend #lindyhop and #swingdance workshops at Gulu youth center. As today is our last day in Gulu. "What is Swing and Lindyhop?" So now am requesting people are well informed with these knowledge of Swing music 🎶 so that we can have a zoom class with my students. We are so happy that now, the dancers in Lira District are so much interested in #Lindyhop and #Swingdance. But we have questions here and I need some help with them. Among these communities, girls are really few represented and now what should be done to encourage more girls to start coping up with dancing like Lindyhop in Uganda 🇺🇬 because now during my classes I do have 17 students but only three are girls and the rest are boys. Has Okurut landed in Uganda, today 03/10/2022 he was invited by Mareesa and Pastor Binaisa Emmanuel at Righteous of God International Ministries to open up the talent show which had brought a lot young generations to showcase their talents through music, dance and drama. Okurut did one minute Lindyhop performance with Mareesa and very one was really wondering, about the dance because it's their first time to watch performance of Lindyhop. Obviously, I can’t speak for all smart people. I’m not even all that smart, truth be told. Maybe a bit above average. Quiet, intelligent people tend to listen to what others have to say and then process it making a determination on whether it is BS or not. Seriously, that’s what I do in 90% of my interactions with people, listen and think. I want to determine why the person is telling me what they are telling me. What is their angle? Are they trying to manipulate or impress me? Why? Again, my brain is processing all of this information so my mouth can’t be running like a duck’s butt at the same time. Also, when I’m talking, I really can’t learn anything. I’m just putting out information. If I’m quiet, be certain that I’m looking and listening, taking in and processing facts. Stephen Hawking once said, “Quiet people have the loudest minds.” I like that. To be successful, what should you need more, motivation or consistency? One definition of motivation is “the general desire or willingness” to do something. That’s the thing with motivation. It’s a feeling. Desire. Willingness. Must you have these to act? I don’t like cleaning my kitchen, I’d rather not have to do it. It’s nice when I am motivated to do it, because I feel like it. Doing things when you feel like it is great! But sometimes I just have to start cleaning and get over the fact that I don’t want to do it. Because, seriously, how often do you feel like doing hard things? Mundane, boring things? Or time-consuming things? Or, stressful “out of your comfort zone” things? The author of “The Five Second Rule,” Mel Robbins has the most brilliant insights when it comes to people’s obsession with their feelings. She says that you aren’t battling your ability to do whatever it is you want to do (diet, work hard, etc.) you are “you are battling your feelings about doing it… you must ignore how you feel, and just do it anyway.” So, that’s motivation. Consistency can be defined as “the state or condition of always happening or behaving in the same way.” For any endeavor, consistency can’t be overstated. It’s an absolute must if you want to get good and stay good at anything. Show me a person who is not consistent, I will show you someone who will ultimately fail. Show me a person who is consistent, I will show you someone who will fail their way to success. (In other words, even if they mess up, they can succeed.) If you aren’t focused on the internal “feeling” of motivation and you showed up every single day to do something… consistency wins over motivation every time. As we are thinking about collaboration between kids of Mozambique and Uganda, I had first to show them my experience during my time at #Maputo Afro Swing Exchange in 2018 and 2019. Happiness comes from something so small always and it doesn't need much to be happy. Here is @bibi_bellows who decided to look for us as she has been watching us on different Lindyhop platforms around the world but now before she travels back home that's UK, she decided to stop in Uganda 🇺🇬 to dance with us even if she has taken almost a year in Sierra Leone without dancing but now here she got to bring her energy back before getting back to home. I will be sharing out the videos of the choreography and also social dancing we had in the community that's #Heart of Dance African Rhythm. She brought that energy which gave the challenge to all children and all of them really admired her, so they have asked us to keep up with social dancing at the centre always.
